if you’re curious about my rating system, check out my first tl;dr!

this review is on the zebra sarasa white pen. as far as i know, it’s only available in the 0.5 tip size.

overall rating

15.9/20 for all categories

4/5 for the average rating

a more detailed review is under the cut! this time, i took out the categories of highlighting and bleeding because they don’t matter with white pens.

colours

I think there are 28 different colours you can choose from in the 0.5 size, all with the same smooth ink and good grip. (I currently own the Milk White and Milk Blue colours.) The Zebra Sarasa is also available in the 0.38, 0.4, 0.7 and 1.0 with 20 colours each. I’m not sure what colours are available with 1.0 tip. Other types of the Zebra Sarasa that might interest you are the Zebra Sarasa Dry and Zebra Sarasa Mark-on.

opacity

(Sorry I’m not sure how I took the photo the wrong way!) This pen isn’t as opaque as I’d like it to be. On coloured paper on its own it looks fine, but it doesn’t work well over other markers. It’s smaller tip size might be a reason why it isn’t as opaque as other white pens. If you can, go over twice on coloured paper. As you can see, the pen didn’t stand out as much when I used it to embellish my calligraphy. An unfortunate tendency the pen has is that it takes off ink from the marker.

grip

I love the grip so so much! It reaches further down than most pens. I use this grip with the Pentel Energel refill (inspired by @studyquill) and it allows me to write quickly and neatly without killing my hands.

smoothness

The ink is really smooth and that’s all that needs to be said :)

smearing

If you see the image above, the pen did smear but I don’t think it really matters. White pens are used less day to day, so a little bit of smearing here and there won’t make a difference. It wouldn’t matter either if you’re embellishing your designs.

test

Here are the supplies I used for my testing:

- Walmart purple cardstock

- Pentel Fude Touch brush pen

- Staples Hype yellow highlighter

- Zebra Sarasa 0.5 Milk White

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this pen if you were looking for a white pen to embellish your works. On the other hand, I would highly recommend this as a pen body for other refills, but not necessarily this colour. The white grip gets dirty rather quickly, but you have 27 more options to choose from.

Pilot Juice Pens:

Rating:10/10

I own the .38 mm pilot juice and these are my ABSOLUTE favorite pens. I have smaller handwriting so it is perfect for creating thin lines and strokes. These pens are very comfortable to hold and are smooth to write with. Not to mention, they do not smudge (perfect for lefties)!! They also have a retractable clip where you can clip it on a paper/stack of papers.

I received complimentary full sized greeting cards from Hallmark. All opinions are my own. What I like about these cards is one is blank; so, I can write my own message. One has an everyday type of greeting that I could give to anyone. One is inspirational but not over the top. They're wonderful cards that will definitely be used.

Erasable highlights: DAISO vs FRIXION i really started to think about erasable pens and highlighters recently because i had to write in my textbooks, something i’m a little reluctant to do. these were a really great option and i wanted to try out different things! my thoughts about the daiso erasable highlighters: * really fluorescent * some colours are pretty dark and covers words i wrote * the yellow one doesn’t seem to be able to be erased * i feel that the there are two little colour options * really cheap! you can literally get them for SGD$0.50 my thoughts about the frixion highlighters: * i love them!! * smooth, really nice colour options * definitely able to erase them! * a little pricier: SGD$1.15 my winner: the frixion highlighters which is your winner?

this week’s review is on the sanford uni-ball onyx fine tip. i think there are two different sizes available, the micro (0.5) and the fine tip (0.7).

Here’s the pen!

colours

As far as I know, there are only three colours available (red, blue, black). I think that these basic colours are enough for a lot of people. I’ll only be reviewing the black one though, sorry!

grip

3/5

If you saw the image above, you can probably see that there isn’t much of a grip. It’s not super uncomfortable or super comfortable, but should be fine for most people. (Unless you grip your pen really hard around the ridge part)

smoothness

2/5

The ink of this pen is really choppy and railroads. It has an inconsistent and ink flow that becomes much more pronounced when you write with a bit more speed. I’m not sure whether this is just my pen, but I also have to tilt it to a specific angle to get better ink flow. Not to mention, if I tilted the pen at the wrong angle it suddenly became scratchy (in a bad way).

bleeding

3.9/5

Whoops, I forgot to take a photo! The ink does show a bit more than my preferred Pentel Energel. The bleeding is bearable with the exception of the ink clots.

highlighting

5/5

It’s super good! It smudges a bit for the 1-3 second range, but there aren’t any problems past that. Surprisingly, highlighting over looks better than writing over. (Check the photo above)

smearing

4.8/5

There aren’t any smudge marks on my hand or streaks on the paper, so that’s a good sign! A little bit of smearing happens with the big ink clots. Sorry, I can’t include a photo, for some reason, I can’t post if I have one more photo...

my first review! here i go :) this one is for the zebra z-grip flight rt.

rating system

i’ll be rating pens by these five categories. if i missed anything important, please comment/dm!

grip smoothness bleeding smearing highlighting

- 0 rating means it’s horrible or it does something bad 100% of the time - 1 rating means it’s bad or it does something 90% of the time - 2 rating means it’s just not good and does something 75% of the time - 3 rating means it’s inconsistent but okay and does something 50% of the time - 4 rating means it’s good and typically does something 10% or less - 5 rating means it’s perfect and hardly does something bad

i included my rating system in case your bars aren’t as high or low, hope it helps!

colours

I reviewed black, red, and blue because they were the only colours I owned and also the most commonly used colours. The Zebra Z-Grip Flight RT is available in red, green, light blue, blue, purple, pink, and black. Pretty good selection!

grip

4/5

The grip of this pen isn’t particularly bad but doesn’t provide anything special. It’s relatively comfortable unless you write a lot and/or grip the pen further down than the average person. If that’s your case, this pen might not be of your interest.

smoothness

1/5

I’m sorry if the quality isn’t that good, but you might be able to see the skips. When I first wrote with it after a long period of leaving it my pen cup, I experienced a couple ink clots. (I’m not sure whether there is a proper term for that). I wrote moderately fast for this test and the pen skipped and railroaded a lot. Overall, the ink is smooth and doesn’t have any scratchy feeling, but it doesn’t make up for the railroading and skipping.

bleeding

4.5/5

The first image was my favourite pen (Pentel Energel) on the paper I used for testing. My paper is so thin that you can see your hand waving on the other side. You can see that it doesn’t bleed as much as the gel pen. I think that this pen would be good for extremely thin paper.

smearing

2/5

Check my images for ‘smoothness’! If you can see, there are a lot of smears in all colours. After writing, my pinky had this plastic-like sheen from all the ink smears. I wouldn’t recommend this for lefties at all.

highlighting

1.5/5

Again, check my images above in ‘smoothness’ for the test! I think that most ballpoint pens smear under highlighters because of the way the ink flows, and this pen is no exception. I would highly recommend highlighting first, then writing. Even after 30 seconds to 1 minute, the highlighter still smeared.
