Is hEDS the same thing as JHS? I was diagnosed with JHS and my rheumatologist wants me tested for “EDS” because she thinks it may be a possibility. Does she mean classical EDS?

They are not the same diagnosis but may be the same condition. They have different diagnostic criteria however people believe Joint Hypermobility Syndrome may be EDS. So if you’re diagnosed with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome you likely have EDS (even if they aren’t the same condition EDS is under diagnosed and very frequently misdiagnosed as that) and getting a diagnosis could be very beneficial to you. EDS has a much broader range of recognized symptoms and conditions that are often comorbid with it. 

Your rheumatologist probably suspects hEDS but if they want you to get genetic testing it’s so they can check for every kind other than hEDS. hEDS is the only type of EDS that does not currently have a genetic test, however it is the most common type. It is diagnosed by a geneticist or rheumatologist by looking at symptoms and hypermobility. So she probably is looking into EDS because it’s commonly misdiagnosed as Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and if you have EDS knowing that and having a diagnosis could help you a lot in getting proper treatment, and knowing which type is important in that as well.
