Never forget that in Peter David's New Frontier novels (and comics), the ancient immortal character Morgan Primus is vaguely implied to be every single one of Majel Barrett's onscreen Trek characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she's the mother of Robin Lefler.
Tumblr media
And then the immortal is finally killed and... actually ends up becoming the ship's computer consciousness, after an earlier Peter David novel established that the Majel computer voice was in fact Number One programming the Enterprise computer with her own voice.
Obviously it doesn't work in a modern Trek world where Number One and Nurse Chapel definitely aren't the same person and are on Pike's Enterprise crew together

But still, just a weird 90's thing that happened

Of the ‘New’ bunch of Star Trek shows this was the last one that I tried. After watching the original Star Trek Animated Series and the Lower Decks series this one just looked different and so gritty, not to mention I was definitely not the demographic that it was aimed at. Heh
I was so so amazingly wrong. We meet a group of interesting and different young aliens at a sort of prison planet-ish. They all got there in different ways, but, when they find the USS Protostar, a Starfleet Starship, they all have to come together to get out of there. Once on board we also get introduced to Hologram Kathryn Janeway, who is there to help out the Cadets that were supposed to be on board. There are the usual adventures, they slowly learn so much more about the ship, and themselves and each other too. And, there is an overarching season long story too.
I wasn’t totally wrong, there are parts that were gritty-ish and serious. But, the show was definitely rooted in Star Trek. Just, a Star Trek for the younger kids, and one where the grey isn’t as easily fixed and not shied away from. It was a really really fun watch, and, I’m so glad that it was saved for at least a third season too.

Star Trek The Motion Picture + Novelization: Sick Bay Scene

"What a cosmic joke!
Vejur was everything that Spock had ever dreamed of being. And yet Vejur was barren. It would never feel pain. Or joy . . .
Spock laughed again.
Then he saw Kirk's face.
He reached out weakly and found Kirk's arm, then his hand, and took a startled Kirk's hand in his own.
Tumblr media
"Jim," Spock said.
McCoy looked his astonishment at the visible and unashamed emotion on Spock's face as he clutched Kirk's hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirk returned the pressure and brought his other hand to cover Spock's, holding it between both of his, signaling Spock that there was no shame in either giving or in answering fully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"This simple feeling . . ." --Spock struggled for strength ". . . is so far . . . beyond Vejur's comprehension . . ."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spock felt himself clinging to Kirk's hand.
He was both shocked and pleased to feel such profound pain over the timeless, meaningless existences he had seen among the machines on that planet . . .
To exist without fear, or loneliness, or anger, or any of those marvelous things that would have driven them to adjust their programming to fit their own needs.
How important it was to a living thing to have needs!
Tumblr media
"Jim," said Spock finally, "Vejur has knowledge which spans the universe. And yet in all this magnificence, Vejur feels no awe . . . no delight . . . no beauty." - Gene Roddenberry

Pike in a western
Tumblr media
Anson Mount said once he'd love to do a "western-style" episode. Well, I'm reading this novel and it's basically Pike in a Western!

It's canon that Spock likes to fuck with people and pretend he doesn't know human sayings just so he can make people explain it to him.
And then Kirk just knows when Spock is serious or is just being difficult and obtuse on purpose. They're married your honour.

This is the final book in the four book series that takes place after the original series ends, but before the first Star Trek movie. I recommended the first book in the series, The Lost Years. And, the second and third books, A Flag Full of Stars and Traitor Winds were good books too, but, this one, that like the first one was by J.M. Dillard, was my favourite of the series.
The still Admiral Kirk is just done with sitting behind a desk. And, when he decides to get back on a ship, boy does he do it right and fully. He’s invited to observe a new automated rescue ship. Except, suddenly he’s in command of that ship, oh, and that ship is full of quite a few cadets. And, he needs to stop the rescue ship before it (as well as the very very bearded McCoy) sails right into Tholian space (remember the interesting web from the original series?).
As well as a almost thriller like sort of story, it was cool to sort of see some of the ‘new’ computer things that would wind up in Star Trek The Next Generation (after all, this book was being written long after The Next Generation premiered), like the being able to find anyone on the ship at any time from a panel in the hall. I know that I’m an easy mark when it comes to whether I like a Star Trek novel or not, but, this one was a really great read.
You may like this book If you Liked: Moments Asunder by Dayton Ward, Captain to Captain by Greg Cox, or The Body Electric by David Mack

Hi. Sorry for the bother, but I don't know who to ask this and I hope you could help me.
I've found an (not good conditions) used copy of The Price of the Phoenix sold in my own country, and I'm seriously considering to get it (despite costing 9€ - US used books are pricey here)
Anyway. I recall the most sought after from Spirkers is the 1st edition and that in later editions some slash was edited out, or am I wrong? This one is the 5th edition. Is worth it?

Thank you for you help. Or, if you can't help me, could you reblog this? Thank you.
That's a fairly decent price! I live on an island so I am accustomed to obscene shipping costs, though. XD I may be a terrible gauge, cost wise.
I've read the second edition (the oldest edition of the novel that I own/have read), and my jaw was still in my lap at what I was reading at parts of it to be honest.
Nothing explicit or blatant of course, but I still felt it was quite brow raising! :D A very possessive Spock. It is definitely worth the read for a Spirk shipper as it's certainly slashtastic.
(I might also be biased because I happen to love, love, love the Romulan Commander. Can I just be her? She's so badass.)
