Defeats were rare for the Antarctic Empire, but when they came, they were swift, and they were painful. Phil spits blood from his mouth, and watches it freeze in the snow beside him. Still too stunned for words, he sends a silent prayer of gratitude to Her that this defeat didn't end with one or both of them captured by their enemies.
"You alive, Techno?" he rasps when he has the strength to again. His body feels like it's been put through the wringer -- he's pretty sure he was knocked out of the sky, but it's a little worrying that the last few minutes of his life are that hazy.
"Yep," comes Techno's rough reply. In the corner of his vision, he can see his fellow emperor sitting up, just a smudge in his blurry vision. "That wasn't great, was it?"
"Think the rest of our army fell back," Phil says, though his observation is purely based on the empty field of snow he could see from his place on the ground. "Probably joined up with the second battalion back at the capitol."
"That's what they should've done," Techno agrees. Phil can hear his footsteps in the snow, and knows what that means for him, but can't find the strength to get up just yet. "I'm pretty sure they just assumed we were both dead, which is a historically dumb move, even for them."
"Probably too excited to get to takin' over the Empire," Techno says, his voice strained with pain. "Serves them right. They'll get what's coming to them in time, Phil."
Phil hums in assent, slowly curling his gloved hands into fists. He tips his head over to Techno. Now that he's looking out over the rest of the battlefield, he can see some more of their army getting up, too. Some with injuries being tended to by healing potions, others simply hanging back and waiting for the next command. There are some who aren't moving. Phil says a silent prayer for them.
"Are you alright?"
Techno chuckles. Looking at him now, Phil can see that he's favoring his right leg, and there's a cut on the side of his neck that looks worrying. "Are you?"
"'m fine," Phil mutters, heaving another sigh.
"Just takin' a while to get up?"
"Yeah," Phil breathes. "Just need another minute."
"How about a hand?"
Phil's eyes shut, briefly, Techno's hand doing well enough to block out the blazing sunlight above him. "How about a nap?" he challenges, swinging an arm up to clasp his hand in Techno's.
As soon as he stands, a rush of dizziness hits him, and Phil remembers why he hadn't wanted to stand up.
"Slow," Techno mutters, stifling a grunt as Phil nearly falls into him.
"Sorry," Phil gasps, blinking stars from his eyes. "I'm alright."
Despite him saying that, Techno doesn't push him in the minutes it takes Phil to stand up straight, to fold his trembling wings back at his side, and adjust the straps of his armor. "I'm alright," Phil says again when he's ready, and this time, he means it.
"Alright," Techno says. He, too, looks a little more steady, reaching for the sword at his hip. "Back to the fight?"
"Battle's not over yet," Phil agrees. "We'll go on."

2018 Wrapped
I thought I would share with you my personal Your 2018 Wrapped...MCR edition!
This year I spent 8,621 minutes listening - about 143 minutes (8 hours) of which I spent listening to My Chemical Romance.
My top artist of this year is My Chemical Romance, the rock genre coming in #3 of my top 4 most listened to genres (Indie came in #1)
My Chemical Romance songs included in my Top 100 Songs are Fake Your Death, Boy Division, Make Room, Disenchanted, Desolation Row, The Ghost Of You, Burn Bright, and Surrender The Night.
Honorable Mentions go to Frank Iero with 2.5mg Just Ain’t Enough For Me and.stage 4 fear of trying.
And on that note, thank you so much to every single wonderful human being who follows me. It brings me such happiness to know that there are some of who you enjoy my blog. Thank you for the bottom of my heart💗
