Yo I faced a similar dilemma about PA and med school. I ended up choosing option C: go to nursing school and have no life for 2 years in school and then have a work life balance. I worried I would regret it but honestly I see the residents and their insane hours and I thank God I didn't go to med school. Also I have the option to change specialities. And I can always go back to school to get my NP or masters in teaching or administration or whatever.
Do you have a doctor or PA you could shadow? Seeing their day to day work might help you decide what's the best fit for you.
(sorry if this makes no sense I'm very sleepy)
It makes perfect sense!! I actually spent 6 months working for an orthopedic surgeon and then worked in the hospital all of last year. I’ve considered the nursing route as well but I really enjoy diagnostics and development of treatment plans which makes me think I should go straight into a provider role. My worry with PA is that I’ll get frustrated by not getting to be an expert in my field and my worry with MD is you know, lack of any kind of social life.
It’s so fucking frustrating that medical school in the US is so all-encompassing- it’s a life-changing decision and not one I can make on a whim! I wish there was a clear path forward!! I do!!

my god do I go to medical school and sacrifice 7-8 years of my life and potentially ruin relationships by overworking or do I go to PA school and still overwork but have a better semblance of a personal life but be terribly scared I will hit a practicing ceiling and regret not going to medical school for the rest of my life

Public speaking is actually really easy if you don't respect a single soul in that room. I've had an incredibly easy time delivering speeches when I hated everybody I saw and they all thought I did amazing because my disdain was read as confidence. I don't have any tips for you I'm just telling you a fact

On this topic, and not to overshare. But my working understanding of my spinal issues has always been “situation normal, all fucked up” because no one explains details to a nine year old, but now. Looking through my medical records. I have like 8 different recorded deformities lmfao no wonder every ortho I’ve seen has taken one look and went “well that’s a mess!”
losing it because I have a degenerative spinal condition secondary to the multiple scoliosis surgeries I had as a kid and I just can’t fucking find an orthopod because none of them take otherwise healthy active young adults seriously when they say they have worsening neuropathy and symptoms of lumbar stenosis so I email the peds ortho who did my original surgeries to see if he can refer me and get my surgical notes- and mind you, this man is in his 80s- and he goes “just come see me! 😀” like SIR YOU’RE STILL PRACTICING?? AT YOUR ARTHRITIC AGE??? anyways that’s how I ended up making an appointment at a children’s hospital at the ripe old age of 24
