People who used to ship c//a but stop have a better redemption arc than Catra

The Season 5 rewrite fics usually do a better job writing Catra's arc than the canon version of Season 5.
A good redemption arc has the character owning up to their actions and genuinely changing. They face the consequences of their choices. Their arc isn't rushed and badly written.
A bad redemption arc doesn't have any of that.

Villain I respect: Scorpius (Smart, committed to the cause, does not self-sabatogue, very funny in the ''haha we know stuff he doesn't'' way. Also like, hey scorpi, what the fuck? what the fuck),
Villain I do not respect: Bestor (he's the most annoying kind of villain. The kind who should just be thrown off a cliff the first time he shows up but keeps coming back to keep being obnoxious)
Minion I respect: Bracca (Because he's fucking hilarious)
Minion I do not respect: Entrapta (because she's an ableist stereotype and fascists deserve to fucking die, yes, even if they're autistic, you ableist bastards)

I’ve seen some people complain about the dance scene during “Princess Prom” and how they hate how people squeal over it. But the thing is, it’s clear from the lighting and cinematography that this scene was meant to be squealed over, which is all kinds of wrong because that’s just tone deaf if you consider what’s actually happening.
It shows that the writers and other people working on it were so focused on having this be the moment the C//A fangirls squeal over that they forgot about the actual meat that’s supposed to make up moments like this, that being no manipulation involved and also Adora shouldn’t look so clearly uncomfortable.
Yeah. I guess when I was "baby anti" I didn't even give a fuck about s1 nearly as much as s5. I didn't even notice s1 issues until others pointed it out.
There's some alternate universe where season 5 never happened and I'm still a c//a shipper, probably.

Blocking will not keep us safe because it is now literally millions of people hating the show.
Its not millions I promise you. And you're not going to run into all of them. Thats actually a part of the reason I like tumblr so much is that you really get very little content that didn't reach you through people you already follow. And even on Twitter and other spaces with algorithms you can still just use the block button every time you see shit that bothers you. I'm on Twitter and tiktok and I still do a pretty okay job of keeping BS off my feed.
Like i promise you what is happening to SPOP has happened before and the fan spaces of it still survived. SU Critical was WAY WORSE I promise it was EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME and you can still find a dedicated fan base even after all of that. Even on tiktok and Twitter I still have managed to remove most SU crit from my feeds, there are a few I leave in there just for posterity because I understand that there are valid criticisms of it but I'm still seeing new content regularly and still seeing positive responses.
I know it /feels/ insurmountable but its not, it might take a few days (or weeks depending on platform/how many people you follow /how often it gets brought up etc) of liberally using the block button and you will notice a significant improvement in your experience.
Hell here on tumblr it took only 15 minutes of blocking every genuine post in the anti catradora tag for it to literally only be people criticizing the antis in there. I'm not kidding, it was THAT easy. The only reason why I still have engagement or knowledge about the antis at this point is because I choose to refute them for my own entertainment. You can just block anons too and it will make it harder for any of them to even send you anons, you can also turn anon off there's no shame in that either.

Catra was a white person's escapist fantasy and I'll never not be mad about that. Legitimately made a WOC (confirmed after the show was over, mind you.) an animalistic person who licks herself clean, runs on all fours and is violent to the ones she loves. And, to top it all off, was voiced by a blonde haired, blue eyed white woman. Like, the racist audacity of this has always been ignored by the spop fandom and when other poc bring it up in convo, they are ignored, ridiculed or called lesphobic.
You're right and you should say it.
Like i was fine with latino fans HCing catra as latino, but then noelle said she was supposed to be and I got mad like.
How are you gonna make your only latino coded character your self insert, hyper aggressive, abusive, animal 🤔

tbh i really hate how the atla fandom has make zuko's redemption arc some kind of standard for how redemption arcs should be written? i've seen so many people shit on other character's arcs (like catra) because their arc isn't exactly like zuko's. the thing is not every cartoon is going to be a copycat of atla and different characters have different purposes ya know?
i definitely agree that not every redemption arc has to model zuko’s (though obviously his was well written)-different stories are going to involve different redemption arcs. but personally i think catra’s redemption arc was somewhat underdone. based on all the hurt she caused, especially the active malicious verbal abuse directed at adora, i felt like there needed to be more atonement than there was.

Adora making fun of Kyle is so out of character, it's not even funny, not that making fun of Kyle was ever funny in the first place, like Adora is a pretty patient and kind person, yet she always bullies Kyle? I can see Catra bullying Kyle, but Adora? Adora???

im confused as to why is entrapta being autistic ableist? like others reactions to her? /gen
Because she doesn't give a single crap about anyone else because all she cares about is playing with her shiny new toys and literally sided with a genocidal facist and helped him on his quest to destroy the planet because it gave her more opportunity to play with machines, and then we aren't supposed to be mad at her for this, because she's autistic, so it's not her fault that she willingly sided with a genocidal facist and helped him destroy the fucking universe.
This is a trope I see over and over again and I'm sick of it. Autistic or otherwise mentally disabled characters who put everyone around them in mortal peril and have no fucking morals at all, but it's okay, because they're autistic, so they don't know any better, and we shouldn't be mad at them, and they shouldn't have to face consequences for their behavior!
It's demonization and infantilization all in one. Autistic people are evil and would let millions of people die without batting an eye if it means they get to play with new science, but it's not their fault, they're autistic, we shouldn't hold them accountable.
I'm sick of it. Entrapta isn't the first and she won't be the last.
When the other princesses are rightfully pissed off at her betrayal, they're portrayed as being bullies because she's bad at making friends. As thought the problem is that she's awkward and not that she willingly sided with a genocidal facist and helped him commit genocide.
The fact that she literally leapt at the chance to help commit genocide is never fucking brought up or dealt with. We're just supposed to feel bad for her because she's Autistic And Doesn't Know How To Make Friends.
You know how fucking Elon Musk recently "came out" as autistic?
Yeah.
That fucking sums up everything with Entrapta. She's fucking evil and doesn't give a single shit who gets hurt because of her actions, and we're supposed to make excuses for her and be okay with that because she's A Little Baby Autistic Who Doesn't Know How To Make Friends :( :( :( :( :( :( :( /s
I'm sick of this shit. If you search my blog for the word "Entrapta" you should see all the other posts I've made on this subject because it's pissed me off since the getgo.
When they introduced her I was so fucking excited to see a weird character with her dark color scheme and weird movements be a hero.
And then they said no. She's going to leap at the chance to join a genocidal facist and fall in love with the genocidal facist and help him commit genocide because she doesn't give a single flying fuck about anyone but herself and her Shiny Toys.
I hate this trope and I hate allistics and I hate this show.
And you know what. I don't fucking know anything about the writers but if one of them is autistic and they still did this? That doesn't mke it okay, that makes it a million fucking times worse and they are a fucking traitor.
If you try to argue with me on this post that Hordak isn’t a facist and the Horde didn’t commit genocide, shut the fuck up and block me. You are going to be blocked and you’re going to be reported. Literally just block me. If you defend genocide and facism, you are a horrible person.

what is it with cartoon girls getting the ugliest choppy bangs after their redemption? i have to admit it, catra's short hair looked way better when it was slicked back.
(at least amity's hair grew back later and she looks a lot better in the timeskip.)

sure, a lot of fandoms are crappy, but the spop fandom is quite possibly one of the most hostile fandoms i've ever been in. like i'm not joking. i've been accused of so much shit for not liking certain characters or ships. hell, not even the r/egular show fandom was like this, when it still had the love triangle plot going on.
and it's so odd bc spop is literally the queer "power of friendship" cartoon. i mean, the show itself has its shitty things, but i never thought the fandom would be worse.

I really wanna start an anti catradora blog since there are so few but idk where to start, can you please give me some tips?
Well! First of, I'm very excited that this side of fandom will be getting another participant, and second of all, I'm very flattered that this question is going to me! I'm always happy to give some support xoxo!
All of my tips are going to be from personal experience both from my time generally engaging with fandom, and running this particular blog.
/ / / /
1 ) Try to be polite.
Yes, you will get people who disagree with you. The very existence of anti-fandom implies that we are not the norm. The majority of our main fandom already disagrees with us. And they might be assholes about it. Don't tolerate rudeness, but also, try not to feed into it, either. Not only is it terrible for mental health as the blogger, but it perpetuates this idea that the blogger in question reacts to negative attention. Which, if you've been on the Internet long enough, you know very well how quickly negativity breeds if it's allowed. Positivity breeds too, so I think it's in anyone's best interest to simply... Not be an asshole. Even if it means being the bigger person for a moment.
2 ) Pick and choose your battles.
"Battles" is a melodramatic way to put it, but I'm only using it because it's a well known saying. Anyway, this part is from the first part. So... the thing about being "the bigger person" is that... it doesn't always happen. I definitely don't let everything go by me without snapping at it sometimes. Well, I just think it's funny. I used to think it was way funnier in the past, too. Sometimes anon hate/fandom takes are really stupid and it's hilarious to share. But if it's not funny, insightful, or you simply don't want to engage... Don't engage.
3 ) Connect!
Anti-fandom is still fandom, and I personally treat it as such! There's still art to enjoy, stories to read, discussions to be shared. Community is not necessary, but when I was first putting out anti-c//a posts it really helped me to know that there were people that like, didn't think I was insane for pointing out things that bothered me! Especially since my choice in writing anti-c//a/crit fics is not an easy medium and well, to be honest, sort of requires that I know someone out there enjoys the fruit of my labor.
Yes, spop antis are limited, but go say 'hi' to the people that are open to engagement! We're mostly pretty friendly, and in my opinion, open-minded.
4 ) You are required to have an "on the nose" blog name.
NO, okay, I'm being totally facetious! Obviously, name the blog whatever you want, I just laugh when I see a new anti blog and it's something like "catra-needs-jail-time" or "catradora-is-dogshit". They're a handful of bloggers like that, if you want more to follow (the two I just named are jokes... As far as I know).
The real advice to be clear that your blog is anti-catradora/critical; or whatever other stances you'll talk about often. Nothing personal if that's not what you want, but make it easily found that you're not open to certain things, or you are open to certain things. I.e. I think that C//a are pretty obviously adopted sisters canon, and that point is very purposefully the first post on my blog (has been for two years), so no one is surprised when I start ranting about sister!c//a in particular.
5 ) It is never, EVER that deep.
Part of anti/crit blogging is that there's salt involved. Ranting, sharing things that frustrate us, being annoyed with canon... But also, it's really not that deep.
If I would have got this question two years before, I would have not added this part. But yeah, no. Part of why I run this blog still is because I know it's simply not that serious... People will steadily find my blog and the others in this community, and they will come around to their own conclusions on their own time. There is no trying to convince someone else on a POV that they simply don't want to see. There is no war against anti fandom and main fandom (though, some will have you believe otherwise).
The bloggers that are still active and open about unpopular opinions in 2023 are not people that stress themselves out or respond to every braindead take, they're not people who get attacked/overwhelmed by stans very often, they're not rude, they're not close-minded-- actually, I would go as far as to say that they're extremely fucking chill about this hobby. Passionate and dedicated, but self aware and self-respecting of mental capital/health.
And so, that'd have to be my last piece of advice.. Chill. It's just not that deep. And if it ever becomes "deep"... take a million steps back, and give yourself that space to recuperate. Your mental state is infinitely more important than an anti-blog, and no one will judge you for taking breaks or anything as you'll need them.

i think the biggest issue i have with entrapta's writing in the show is that other character's quirks are treated as harmless, while hers are flaws.
swift wind's singing is something that comes to mind: other characters clearly find it annoying, but it's never presented as a problem, just something he does. his arc doesn't revolve around learning not to sing when it could put them in danger. and like, obviously i don't think that should've been his arc (though i'm not actually sure he had one at all?), but it’s not fair that entrapta has to...make up for the way she is, or something, before she’s worthy of friendship.
there are other characters who were given the same leeway—scorpia is honestly pretty bad at respecting personal boundaries, and sea hawk is sea hawk. he literally gets himself, bow, and swift wind kidnapped, but even when he gets called on endangering people, he’s not treated like he’s a bad friend. none of them are. and that’s not by any means a bad thing! i just wish the show treated entrapta more like them, you know?
