Things that just happen to Apollo Justice
father is murdered when he's an infant.
raised through early childhood as a son of the leader of a group of guerrilla terrorist lawyers.
abandoned by his guerrilla terrorist lawyer surrogate father to live in a country he's never seen.
makes it to adulthood and becomes a lawyer, only to be hired by a lawyer who is secretly a murderer.
his idol Phoenix Wright manipulates and uses him as a pawn to take down his enemy (Apollo's murder lawyer boss).
as a result of Wright's scheme, Apollo loses his job and can't find one for six months, forcing him to take a job under the same man who manipulated and used him.
accidentally defends his mother in court, who is secretly alive. She knows who he is, but he and Wright scheme not to tell either him or his sister.
the one best friend he made after being abandoned in the US is murdered, which triggers a mental breakdown.
six months after his mental breakdown, his surrogate father, whom he hasn't seen since being abandoned, comes to the US to beg Apollo to defend him of a murder charge.
Apollo agrees to defend his surrogate father from the murder charge, at the risk of his own life due to the law of the country, only to discover that his father doesn't even need defending because he's already dead and has been a ghost the whole time.
Apollo has a second mental breakdown and understandably refuses to return to the US.

Finding out Apollo’s biological father was a very talented musician makes Klapollo so much more endearing.
I wanna see Apollo go to Klavier and ask him to teach him how to play guitar so badly now.

Obsessed with the way Ema arrests people in this game. She’s so polite and casual about it. Like. That’s her customer service voice…..

One thing I think is really funny about Trucy is that she is probably the Ace Attorney protagonist with the most tendency towards actually committing crimes on purpose. Like out of all the non-evil Ace Attorney characters (outside of Kay who I haven’t been introduced to yet) she has the vibes of someone who would just actually commit a crime. She (probably) forged evidence, and she talks about making things disappear all the time, including making the prison guard in the detention disappear when she was held there AND making a contract disappear that would mean owing three million dollars to some guy (even if the contract was illegal, too). PLUS she got along with an organized crime family extremely well and was completely unintimidated by them.
…But of course, all of the lowkey-threatening vibes she has going on are countered by the fact that she’s incredibly cute and she’s just a silly goofy little magician with an adorable smile who would never do anything wrong ever.

Last Rites of the Rebel Killer
Summary: When Ga'ran is finally deposed, Nahyuta is faced with a new life of freedom. Kept busy with all of the work he must continue as prosecutor, as prince regent, and as a monk, he stays focused on the future and what lies in store for Khura'in. However, after an assassination attempt throws his life out of order, Nahyuta can do nothing but dwell on his mistakes. The past comes creeping in, and he can't stop Pandora's box once it's opened.
There's always something to atone for.
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Archive Warnings: N/A Category: Gen Fandom: Ace Attorney Characters: Nahyuta Sahdmadhi | Apollo Justice | Datz Are'bal | Ga'ran Sigatar Khura'in | Amara Sigatar Khura'in | Rayfa Padma Khura'in | The Judge | The Holy Mother and Lady Kee'ra (in a sense) | Original Characters Chapters: 4/4 Additional Tags: Character Study | Trauma | Mental Health Issues | Mental Breakdown | Religious Guilt | Implied/Referenced Self-Harm | Self-Hatred | Suicidal Thoughts | Mild Transphobia | Blood and Injury | Canon-Typical Violence | Past Character Death | Post-Spirit of Justice | Spirit of Justice Spoilers | Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence | Canon divergence as in 'Nahyuta's actions have actual consequences' lol | Trans Nahyuta Sahdmadhi | Nahyuta Sahdmadhi has a mental breakdown Words: 21,293 Notes: I am insane about Nahyuta Sahdmadhi. I just got into the AJ trilogy a couple weeks ago and I could not get the ghosts out of my brain until this was written, so here it is. The fruit of my labor, etc etc. This was originally a large-scale one-shot, but decided to break it up into four parts for readability.
Heed the tag warnings. It's nothing super graphic when it comes to violence or transphobia (in fact the transphobia is very mild, and occurs only once in chapter 2), but there's a lot of dwelling on self-harm and suicide ideation. Nothing that actually happens, though.
As always, thanks for reading.

“A wanted man, am I right, Apollo?” ;D
My friends and I play ace attorney together and voice the characters while we do it (and call ourselves Legally Bald because we’re hilarious). We haven’t finished AA6 yet but I - voicing Dhurke - keep making this joke. So I had to draw it.

no one out here doing it like prosecutor Nahyuta Sahdmadhi. He meets Ema for one trial and she defies him to say Trucy is innocent and repeatedly tries not to testify about the case. Then at the end he tells her that was so hot of her (paraphrasing).
Then he immediately is like "I need your help with important science things on my cases. Obviously." and drags her personally to another country to work directly with him as his special investigator. Like I know it's his religion but that man drank so much respect women juice he met one that stood up to him and was like. That's it, that's the one, I love her immediately and forever. Please step on me. For science. This is a normal way to pursue affections. *stuffing the royal disaster he's trying to suppress back in the closet because he's being blackmailed by an evil queen.*
Everything is great and fine. I'm just gonna pretend I didn't just meet my adopted brother and experienced 78 different unintelligible emotions because I'm busy not fucking up this precarious and secret hostage situation. And staring at the hot girl. Apollo I can't talk to you right now I've found my future wife. EMA, LOOK, SCIENCE! *fails to produce science because he didn't plan that far ahead*
like motherfucker had NO idea this shit was gonna work.
mans is having the biggest identity crisis at all times and STILL recognizes that he needs to snap Ema up for the goddess she is and HE WAS RIGHT. 99 wrongs but failing to recognize the real shit ain't one.

on my way home from the gym i had a really stupid thought of "hey it's been 7/8 years since aa7 so what if capcom reflect that by doing another fucking time skip" i then tried to roll with this bad idea and flesh it out a bit and see what it could look like
so here i present to you my version of the worst ace attorney 7 pitch in da whole wide WORLD !!!
[SPOILERS FOR AA4 AND AA6, NOT REALLY AA5 CAUSE UH NOTHING TO REALLY SPOIL I GUESS LOL?]
come 2024 it will have been 8 years since AA6 so fuck it, 7 years time skip (Again 🙄🙄🙄) to reflect that time
introducing Ace Attorney 7, or Justice & Cykes: Ace Attorneys
Apollo has been in Khurain for the past 7 years restructuring its legal system, meanwhile Phoenix has retired from law to do the same with Edgeworth (who's stayed as Chief Prosecutor) in Japanifornia. He's still acting as a mentor to Thena and is still in charge of the WAA, but doesn't take cases himself any more. Him and Polly don't really keep in touch as much as they should, as both are too busy
maybe Apollo gets homesick tho, or Phoenix offers him his old job back or what, but either way a 31 year old Polly moves back to Japanifornia to be a lawyer there again
case 1 is a tutorial for two reasons:
1) apollo hasn't done law in this country in nearly a decade
B - phoenix has reworked the WHOLE system (i.e. introduced two fun mechanics from GAA)
it should be a simple case, but the problem is that this new system nick introduced fucking baffles polly: why does he now have multiple witnesses on the stand at once? and why is there a jury system? (does this take away from GAAs unique identity? idk)
he solves it btw ofc he does, with help from his professional magician assistant trucy
at the end of the case phoenix calls polly & trucy to his office and tells them they're siblings
cut to case two, where we are focused on an Athena case (possibly set before 7-1? so as to keep the weighty cliffhanger as long as possible). trucy is assistant for this too. fuck it. she's assistant for most/all of the game. trucy deserved better in 5 and 6, capcom.
reintroduction to investigation segments, which remain unchanged. athena, now mid 20s, is a lot more confident and independent, though maybe still needs to ask for help and advice from nick more than she'd like. solves a two day case just fine, even with new prosecutor (maybe Sebastian Debeste? or a rookie who has a similar character arc to us in previous games)
case 3 back to apollo, and him and trucy are probably taking the news itself well but not the fact it took OVER A DECADE FOR NICK TO TELL THEM, and it doesn't help that nick just pins it to him being too busy and forgetting lol
either way a case has come in so the two of them take it to distract themselves but there's gonna be a little awkward tension in the air throughout especially whenever they visit thena and nick
solve it
case 3 back to thena, and her journey of independence & also now dealing with Wright family drama lol
solves case
case 4 back to polly, who's still miffed but is trying to be an adult about it
solves case
case 5 nick is suspected of murder, and trucy is witness so Apollo and Athena work together to solve it, with alternating trial days or maybe one leading investigation and the other court
there'll be a moment where apollo can't help for whatever reason and this is athenas big breakthrough indepdence moment as she solves this bit alone
also guest prosecutor franzy von karma; reveal she was the mentor of previous prosecutor (maybe on the bench with her? why has this not been a thing other than dgs3-3 capcom.)
solves it's not nick or trucy, all of them gain confidence within each other and themselves
game over everyone's happy

shoutout to the nahyuta sahdmadhi appreciation community, you are some of the loveliest people in ace attorney fandom!
here's my two cents on that character
(I headcanon nahyuta as nonbinary and I'm gonna be using they/them pronouns exclusively for them)
might be a weird opinion but I think they wouldn't be a very pleasant person even after their situation got better at the end of spirit of justice. especially to the ones they'd be close with. to be frank I imagine post-canon nahyuta as even more of a mess than during the events of canon, because being freed from what became their status quo would force them to deal with change, and the behaviors they learned to survive, cope and hide secrets, which have probably become habits by now, would no longer apply.
what do I say when I mean they wouldn't be pleasant? I don't mean they'd still tell apollo to go to hell every other second, since they don't have to pretend to hate lawyers anymore, (although they could still pull out their favorite insults if apollo would be annoying). I don't mean they'd be rude to say, rayfa, that's never happening. what I mean is they'd be hard to deal with on a personal level because of how used to hiding their emotions and true thoughts they are. and because of how haunted by guilt they must be after bringing death of so many people, and no way in hell is an ace attorney prosecutor going to deal with guilt in a healthy way. and also because by building closer relationships they would slowly reveal that they are concerningly prone to self-sacrifice.
self-sacrifice is their love language, self-sacrifice is their go-to option when presented with a situation of choice, they would always give rayfa their last cookie, they would always give rayfa the best seat, they would force themselves to do something they don't want to if that's what rayfa wants or if that's what's good for her. that would be the most apparent in a relationship with rayfa, but I think apollo would actually be the one to notice it, not her. nahyuta is used to putting themselves in a position of "well, Someone has to, so it's gonna be me", and I'm not only talking about the Ga'ran situation, that also can be seen in their story with the rebellion – they took a lot upon themselves as the leader's only remaining child, they went into law to overthrow the current legal system from the inside, they put themselves through the hell that having sahdmadhi be their last name brought, all because they thought that somebody has to do it and it has to be them. they are used to taking up a position of a martyr, suffering for everyone's good, suffering in silence, hell they were ready to DIE for a crime they didn't commit, they were ready to just take it because they had to. what I'm meaning to say is – when you're so used to taking up that position, it won't be easy to let go of it. I think nahyuta is going to try to stay a martyr. and believe me when I tell you (as an unneccessarily self-sacrificial person myself) that sometimes it's fucking impossible to deal with such a person unless they recognize the problem and are willing to change.
anyway I hope you enjoy my completely detached from reality headcanon or constructively critique it in the replies!

this entire case moves me so much, because Retinz thought he defeated the last Gramarye but he was defeated by a Gramarye unknowingly, and it kills me that these two don't know they're brother and sister 😭

i said that thing abt how i think amara and datz have kind of a weird awkward relationship, which i do believe for 3231098242 reasons, but
also i like to think of when dhurke has to tell datz hey i know we sent apollo to america and i know things are crazy with amara being here and being not-entirely convinced that i didn't try to kill her but um she's pregnant :-)
and datz has to be like ,
OKAY COOL I'LL JUST GO LEARN HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A PREGNANT WOMAN. COOL. ALRIGHT. WHATEVER. also what the hell when did you guys do that. no don't tell me
like he has so many objections but i think they argue about it *maybe* once. at all. because yeah datz can say, hey, didn't we just have this whole thing about it being too dangerous to involve kids, right, with aj, and hey, you're really trying to make things work with her even though she doesnt trust you, isn't that crazy, and hey... but dhurke has been through so much. pain. is the thing. and whos datz to tell him "you don't deserve to try?" datz can't argue like that... so all he can do is buckle down and make sure its the safest damn pregnancy they can have
...and him having to be a midwife is a headcanon ive had for years 😭HELP it cracks me up like ... he disagrees with every choice thats happened but also what's he gonna do ... not help? he's datz. he helps. he helps so good. they need all hands on deck in the mountains after all ... it's what he does!!! going around asking for advice from anyone ever. he finds books.. the rebels aren't sure why "noticably gay and not-pregnant datz" is asking for pregnancy advice but it's not the weirdest thing he's ever done so whatever.
well they probably know like, A Doctor. or surgeon. but datz is an outdoorsy freak i know he likes having his own knowledge to rely on
and then when rayfa is born of course it was all worth it... and seeing them happy... of course it's always worth it. :( he'll do anything for that family. he's already done so much for dhurke's family ... and he'll keep at it. foreverrr. crying. datz!!!! Whagt do you mean none of this is canon

Actually I think that the ONLY reason that Edgeworth wasn’t pulling out all the stops for Trucy during The Magical Turnabout was because Phoenix had a Talk with him over the phone that was basically like “Listen I know you would do literally anything for Trucy and so would I, but I promise Apollo can handle this. I believe in him.” And since Edgeworth was trying to reform the Prosecutors’ Office during that time and knew it would look bad to interfere he reluctantly agreed to stay out of it, but he was up in his special Chief Prosecutor’s chair SEETHING during the trial. The only thing that kept him from climbing down from the gallery and killing Roger Retinz himself was the knowledge that once Trucy got declared not guilty Edgeworth could be the one to prosecute Roger Retinz in his trial. He eventually did get to prosecute that asshole and when he did he fucking DESTROYED him.

thinking abt baby dhurke....night of The incident dhurke....22 years old! more or less. 22!! imagine it...he's 22 with a kid...and then it happens. and it happens so QUICKLY. and what do you even do in that situation right? like what do you grab first?... but you don't really have the choice.. well. can't find amara, jove's dead, so it's the two boys then i guess. that's all he can do.
and i think about him surely covered in burns and soot from searching around the palace until the very last minute he could.. and i think about him freaked out and young and with two baby toddlers confused and scared... and he doesn't know where his wife is or what the hell happened, and is *he* safe, are these kids safe? was it an attack? where can he go? you know? wtf can he do?
i think about him going to someone he can trust in this scariest night of his life. everything's in chaos. *no one* knows where the queen is or wtf happened.. cops everywhere. the kingdom's awake and scared... i think of him going to datz, and does he call ahead? can he? or does it not even occur to him? he's only 22, you know, and there's a million things he could have done better, maybe. sure he's a prince but he's just barely grown up. so he goes to someone he can trust. the datz :-)
the datz, barely 23, barely grown up, ex-military and confused and who, last he heard, his best friend was having a really nice night, and now he's at his doorstep blistered and filthy and two crying scared little boys in his arms... datz who's probably got this small home, nothing crazy big, a glorified bachelor pad with the news crackling on an old tv, and it's talking about a fire at the palace with a missing queen and a missing dhurke and maybe for an exact split second datz thinks, holy shit, what did he do? but of course it's not like that at all...
and the actual kids... there's nahyuta who datz knows, vaguely, in one sense as "his best friend dhurke's kid" and another sense as "The Queen Of Khura'in's Kid" and it's terrifying to think of the latter, but then there's this anonymous little football, this trembling horn haired little baby, and dhurke can try to explain what happened... his name's apollo, and his dad, i don't know about his mother, and.... like, what do *you* do in that case, huh? because what the hell, right? but it's not like you have a choice, either. first aid kit's in the bathroom, and dhurke can run a bath.. try to calm down, maybe...
try to entertain two terrified little babies when you, probably, aren't nearly as good with kids as you'll end up being in a couple of decades, and frankly they kinda scare the hell outta you, and they're probably scared OF you 'cause they don't know what's happening either!
i just like to think about it.... two guys just a few years into adulthood dealing with something unfathomably big... and like, the first night, the first few days, before it spirals into something even bigger... like god. 22 and 23. i'm abt to be 24 in a few days! if i were either of them i would have just laid down and died!NLKNDGLKNDF
