One of my favorite bits from Turnabout Reclaimed is how every time Blackquill has the chance to bring Taka up, he does. Anyone dare mention an animal positively in his presence and he’s like “wellll Taka is actually the smartest handsomest specialest most talentedest bird in the whole wide world so he’s better than them :]” and it’s extremely cute

always weird as hell posting in the actual tags. i only started doing that (to some extent) in 2022 and i've been on this site for 11 years. like i'm sure i did post in the tags originally as well but i rapidly so wanted people to NOT see my posts that i always made sure i had my own personal tags for fandoms. like what if they throw tomatoes at me y'all

i started making just one of these and it quickly spiraled out of control. hello SOJ community

i am suddenly reminded that i wanted to make a post about this

ik we talk about the revolution, about SOJ, about how it happens and what happens next

But what about before?

What was it like before Ga'ran burned the palace down? Did she get along with Dhurke? Were they close? Did Amara ever play peacekeeper between her husband and her sister? Did she ever have visions of grandeur of Ga'ran being an incredible aunt to her children, of getting to have a close family?

What about when Ga'ran burned the palace down for her own selfishness? Lying to her sister, saying Dhurke did it. Was Amara beside herself? Had Ga'ran ever lied to her before they were married, distrustful of Amara's to-be husband? Did Amara wish she'd listened?

And what about Dhurke? Dhurke, who thinks he's just lost his wife and is now being prosecuted, blamed by hia sister-in-law, how could you do this and turn your back on family? Did his heart ever break for Nahyuta, first and only child to Khura'in's beloved queen and his now-gone wife? Nahyuta, who was banished from the family because of what he was accused of? Did Ga'ran ever like their child? Did she watch over a still-tiny Nahyuta while Amara slept? Did she ever hold her sister's child? How could she turn her back on this baby in her grief? Can't she see Dhurke is grieving too?

Do you think Dhurke speaks ill of Ga'ran around Nahyuta and Apollo as kids and it turns into sobbing, because they were supposed to be family, and he's mad and angry and hurt, how could she think he'd murder Amara?

And then, when it comes out that she started the fire, do you think that hurt is passed on to every member of the family? That Amara stares at her sister in horror over the family she ripped apart, the realization that Ga'ran was never holding her best interests at heart, that she had manufactured it all from the beginning. Do you think it keeps her up at night, wondering just how long she'd planned it?

And Nahyuta, too- are there memories they so faintly remember of their aunt, before the fire? Was she kind? Did she smile at messy drawings, or take them out for strolls in the gardens? The betrayal Ga'ran made, to split their family apart for the throne. With the life they've lived, surrounded by a group of rebels outcasted from Khura'inese society in public, a found family from all walks of life. Were Dhurke and Amara ever like that? How could she tear it all down, when Dhurke's only ever had open arms for everyone?

anyways i think there's just a lot of fun grief opportunities to show in the few years before and after the palace fire

people always have to interpret every single thing Nahyuta does in the worst way possible to show how much he sucks as if the stuff he's Actually Done Wrong isn't enough. like he sucks already we know that you don't have to start misinterpreting him too KRKF

seeing a post where someone said Nahy-uta mistreats Em-a... no the fuck he doesn't lol? he has high expectations for her, yeah he's having her fly back n forth from the US to Khura'in in short periods of time but he's doing the same thing, and he gave her. an 8 hour sermon one time

but the game like. goes out of its way to say multiple times that Nah-yuta really likes her and respects her. this is not a ship post this is just the fucking. text of the game. if she didn't like working with him bcs of how he treats her, she wouldn't agree to keep working with him post-SOJ, and there wouldn't be multiple convos she has about how she actually weirdly gets along with him even when she doesn't want to because he speaks so highly of her all the time. i dunno man. mistreating?? big doubts. that's not what the game says about their working relationship at all
