How about a little Spacedogs to brighten up your day?

This is a ship that’s easy to dive into and get lost in. There aren’t as many fics for it as there are for its, in a sense, “parent-ship” (hannigram), but that just means when you find the right fic, the emotions hit harder. Also, a ship with a canonically neurodivergent character? Yes please!

Although, in this particular fic, Adam’s autism hardly factors in. No, this is a Nigel-centric work. If it wasn’t perfectly obvious from the title alone. Temporary amnesia is a very potentially angsty concept for a fic, but this one avoids that avenue almost completely. Which is unexpected. Oh there’s some angst (Adam is very obviously internally fretting over Nigel’s memory loss) but it’s never focused on. Instead, we get a dash of humor, a bit of worldbuilding/character development, and a whole hecking lot of Nigel being absolutely SMITTEN with his star. Seriously, Nigel being ass-over-teakettle for Adam is probably the most common trope in Spacedogs fics, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. It’s what Adam deserves, lol.

And the last bit? The final core trait? Perfect.

I love this fucking ship, man.

I JUST BINDGEREAD THIS AND I NORMALLY THING HIGH SCHOOL AU THINGS ARE WEIRD AND STUFF BUT LIEK AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

ITS SO GOOD AND ITS ONGOING SINCE 2021 AND HAS 106K WORDS AND 38 CHAPTERS SO FAR AND THE WRITING IS GORGEOUS

if you do end up reading this here’s a few things you need to know though:

•Wills autism is very present and during this he is non verbal because of that (he has a sensitivity to noises and is nonverbal autistic, it pains him to speak)

•Hannibal’s nonverbal as well and they both use ASL (his is a trauma response)

•While Hannibal isn’t a cannibal (yet) because he’s in high school, he is still dark

•Tw for suicide (it’s attempted)

•Wills dad abuses him and it’s a very big part of the story (the author also has summaries of what happens in the chapter at the end if needed)

•Hannibal and wills age gap is nonexistent

•A LOT OF HOMOPHOBIC LANGUAGE BECAUSE IF THE TIME PERIOD

•the author has the tw thing in each chapter and I can’t think of them but there’s like a lot of domestic abuse wether it be physical or verbal

My first Spacedogs bind is complete!! Angel in the Alleyway by Sourweather is so sweet and I loved how tenderly Nigel fit Adam into his life. 😭😭 I knew a few pages in that I needed to bind this into a lil quarto book.

This tiny book is covered in blue book cloth with clay colored details. The character art on the cover is by the incredibly talented @beatricenius and I’m so excited to be able to use it!!

"You know what they’re gnawing on, there?” Will’s eyes are glued to the television, feasting on the grainy black-and-white footage with a fervor that matches the zombies on screen. He’s seen Night of the Living Dead at least a dozen times, but when his dad suggested it, Will plucked it happily from the video store shelf. He forces himself to look away, lifts a curious brow. His dad smirks. “Ham, covered in chocolate syrup.” Will’s nose wrinkles, he looks back at the screen in disgust. ‘I think that’s actually grosser than eating human flesh,’ he signs, faking a gag, and his father laughs. It’s actually been one of his better birthdays, all things considered. Nothing particularly dazzling, but there’s been almost no friction between them, which is a blessing. They’d gone to Huddle House for brunch, had waffles and bacon, coffees and waters. Will doesn’t usually go for coffee. Caffeine doesn’t even work on him, something he’s heard is somewhat common among autistics, but he’d ordered it anyway. He liked mirroring his father’s order, naive as it was. Childishly pleased when he poured two packs of sweet-n-low into the mug and choked back the tar black liquid, because the man across from him was doing the same. Moments of genuine connection between them are so hard to come by, these days. Will often forgets that the two of them are meant to be the same species as one another, let alone father and child. Is it so wrong to manufacture an overlap, once in a while? To pretend?
