So I’ve seen a lot of discussion abt this line and how in the anime the subs say “I’m regretting that, a bit” and it’s my understanding that the English manga wrote “That was more than I deserve, maybe” and it kinda fascinates me bc like neither of them are wrong bc it’s both like. Lines like this drive me insane that we can’t have both bc it literally MEANS both of those things it isn’t one or the other in it’s original form like

もったいない is like Almost Always in my experience translated as basically “what a waste” but it’s like non-specific it’s one of those not necessarily literal expressions in a lot of cases and it’s mostly indicative of that sense of regret so like the expression itself FEELS more like what he says in the anime that he’s kinda like “damn maybe I shouldn’t have done that” bc as a phrase it’s used almost like “well that sucks” is in English like the interpretation the manga comes to is correct obviously but it’s not necessarily the only or even first one that you might come to AND ALSO the idea that the time with those girls would’ve been wasted ON HIM bc he doesn’t deserve it is closer to the literal meaning of the phrase (which “more than one deserves” is part of as like a secondary meaning when I looked into it actually I don’t think I’ve seen it used for that directly colloquially but it’s there in the dictionary) LIKE ITS BOTH BOTH VERSIONS REFLECTED DIFFERENT SIDES OF THAT LIKE NATURAL AMBIGUITY and I love shit like this in writing so much bc it’s one of those things that becomes clear the more you get to know the character and how THEY see things bc ultimately the context is what clarifies What They Meant by it like it seems so obvious Knowing Vash but the first time I read this I was like “oh does he have problems connecting :(” and then rereading it later like “WAIT ITS HIS TENDENCIES” it means. alright, since the Remedy brainworms got me I've been replaying Control, got to the AWE expansion last night and picking up on all the echoes/foreshadowing for Alan Wake 2 is making me go utterly bonkers, but like. has anyone picked up on or talked about how in all of Alan's Hotline messages to Jesse, when he's writing about her POV, he exclusively calls her 'Faden'

like, maybe it didn't poke my brain the first time I played it since he does the same thing when talking about Hartman, but coming from AW2 it's pretty jarring as a stylistic oddity...almost like there's a reason (in-universe and/or out-of-universe) that he doesn't call her 'Jesse'...almost like there's only one Faden in his story...

and given how in AW2 we also get some (quasi-) clarification regarding the limits of Alan's ability to "make stuff up" vs alter and rewrite "real-world" events that he sees in clairvoyant flashes...given the Night Springs screenplay pages you can find in AWE that parallels the FBC and the events of Control (i.e. a Director and a Scientist opening a portal to another dimension, finding an eldritch Entity, the Director trying to take its power for himself and then getting taken over before shooting himself)...given how literally all of the "dreams" Dylan tells Jesse about are descriptions/viewings of stuff that takes place on one level of reality or another ("I was the director and you were an intern"; "we were in a game, and it was a fucking boring game but you couldn't stop playing it"; Mister Door, and "a world with a writer writing about a cop, and another world where the writer was real"; a "musical" about Jesse), except, seemingly, the dream about "Jesse Dylan Faden"...

it is insane how many people on here don't even click the sources op links on their own post to learn more and just hit reblog saying "oh my i didn't know about this thank you for teaching me!". like guys CLICK THE LINK!! CHECK THE NOTES!!! CHECK THE SOURCE!.... i swear half the time the link is dead or takes you to a nonsense page (i see this a lot with art specifically???? and excerpts from magazines??) and some times the linked source disproves a claim the very post that linked it made and people just. don't bother to check, no one bothers to even reblog saying "hey that link is dead! here's a new, working link!" or "hey that link doesn't work, can you link the source again?" and when it comes to misinformation people just share without checking or looking at the notes where numerous people will (in the best case scenario) already be pointing out the misinformation

"OH BUT I CAN'T CHECK EVERYTHING I SEE ON THE INTERNET" there is a surefire way to prevent spreading this kind of stuff even if you don't have the time to fact check immediately. just accept it's fine to save a post for later if you can't look deeper into it right now!!!!! literally just reblog it in private or save the post as a draft so you can come back to it later and check. it won't kill you and in fact it will actually make your life a lot better lol

listen I know the kira and dax arthurian legend holosuite dates are little more than a haha funny hats running joke and if you examine it any more than that you’re taking it too seriously but it really is such a throwaway representation of how infuriatingly earth- and english language canon-centric star trek tends to be. none of the characters involved in this are from earth. this is a trill showing a bajoran this fun program in a holosuite run by a ferengi. I don’t doubt that dax could have run across arthurian legends at some point over hundreds of years and maybe jadzia likes them but are you telling me that there are no trill Romantic Legends that she could introduce kira to, thereby bonding more by showing her (and us) this piece of her own culture? a centuries-old story from bajor that maybe kira didn’t even know about because that kind of thing stopped being passed down as much during the occupation but dax does from a previous host? a story from a third entirely unrelated culture that’s not earth that has some kind of personal connection? I mean, shit, even something from earth that’s not so deeply western?

and it would be a different kind of bad if they’d thought about it and went mm I think that kind of detail makes them a little Too close send in the het love interests but like. it does not feel like they thought about it hard enough for that it’s just a brief recurring gag about funny ooc outfits that unconsciously reinforces the idea of english canon as the default.

I'm assuming it comes out the same time RUIN dropped, which was midnight MST iirc, but I keep getting people telling me that it's dropping noon EST- but I literally can't find any source on that and it's getting kind of frustrating.

They say it came from an account that's now deleted, and to be fair I know the account they're talking about, but all of the stuff they used to post was stuff that was posted elsewhere first- there wasn't any insider knowledge that was directly given to them as far as I could tell, and I can't find anything about a confirmed release time anywhere else.

i bet mac and dennis definitely have moments just. sitting. in the waiting room. they definitely fight. it starts with mac and dennis fighting over each other for not being worried about joyce, like the fights in charlie gets crippled yknow? theyre fighting sure but it's definitely an expression of how much they care about joyce.

i definitely think theres a phase there, though, where mac and dennis are shooed from her room, since she needs her rest or whatever. and i imagine neither of them are gonna be the worse best friend and go home first. so theyre just sitting, silent, still emotional after crying with joyce. and after a while, you can see mac looking up through his lashes at dennis.

he asks if dennis thinks joyce will be okay. of course dennis says she will be. he tells mac not to be a pussy. some heartfelt scene with mac rambling, admitting his care and worry for joyce. dennis taking a long moment to contemplate, before agreeing, admitting how worried he gets for her, too. how much he cares. theres a long beat of silence, before they break into a fight over whos fault it is again, though its definitely with less effort than before.

as for joyce saying emotional shit on pain meds you know she was on that "i did it all for you guys" shit that makes mac and dennis feel 70x worse. "i hope you guys at least had a good game" and mac is about to punch a hole in the wall. sure she did all that so the eagles could win, but would she even care if the eagles werent so important to her friends? would she be that self sacrificial?

maybe once mac and dennis get to have time alone with her they get a bit more sappy. mac definitely would. sneaking in some glue or something to be able to get high with joyce. hes trying to be strong but he cant get over the guilt that he wasnt there to protect her. maybe hes even crying over her, finally pouring his feelings to her. finally getting out how much he cares and how sorry he is for not being there sooner.

and man. joyce really misses middle and elementary school. she misses the mac that would talk to her like this without her nearly dying in order to achieve it. in the moment, she lets herself be happy that shes getting anything at all though.

It really did!! like! god. worst best show of all times. it truly fluctuates between genius gorgeous narrative & embarrassingly awful cringe stuff. but yes it understood the family sickness narrative & because that narrative is like catnip to me , a feral cat , it will always live rent free in my head forever <3 like. like. the idea of these two traumatized brothers who can NEVER escape each other & the narrative they’ve been forced into, who can also never truly be happy, who will move heaven & earth & endure literal hell for each other & always always always watch the world burn & torture & kill & become shadows of themselves & turn against everything they supposedly stand for when it comes to each other…. the way sam wants nothing more than to get away supposedly but he also wants to climb inside of dean because dean is the only one who ever cared about him & looked out for him that’s his father that’s his mother that’s his whole family who he owes everything to even if he also hates him for reinforcing the abuse of their father by worshipping their father & dean harbors so much resentment toward sam for getting a childhood when he couldn’t & for being this constant burden but he also worships at the altar of sam & he hates sam for being the golden child when that was supposed to be him but actually dean’s ENTIRE identity & self worth can be summed up in the moment his father put baby sam in his arms & said “get your brother outside - now dean, go!” because he’ll always be daddy’s blunt little instrument - a weapon molded to protect his baby brother who’s life is actually worth something while he’s worth nothing… I - sorry what was I saying? anyway,, !!!
