for real WHERE does the idea that [utdr humans] are nongendered so that "you can project on them" come from. their literal character arcs are about NOT being a blank slate to be filled in by the audience
i think i understand the assumption on some level for undertale, because there is a very intentional effort to make you identify with the "player character" in order to make your choices feel like your own (the beating heart of undertale's metanarrative lies in giving you an alternative path to violence against its enemies after all, and whether you're still willing to persue it for your own selfish reasons. YOUR agency is crucial).
of course, the cardinal plot twist of the main ending sweeps the rug from under your feet on that in every way, and frisk's individuality becomes, in turn, a tool to further UT's OTHER main theme: completionism as a form of diegetic violence within the story. replaying the game would steal frisk's life and happy ending from them for our own perverse sentimentality, emotionally forcing our hand away from the reset button.
i think their neutrality absolutely aids in that immersion. but also, there's this weird attitude by (mostly) cis fans where it being functional within the story makes it... somehow "editable" and "up to the player" as well? which is gross and shows their ass on how they approach gender neutrality in general lol.
but also like. there's plenty of neutral, non PCharacters in undertale and deltarune. even when undertale was just an earthbound fangame and the player immersion metanarrative was completely absent, toby still described frisk as a "young, androgynous person". sometimes characters are just neutral by design. it's not that hard to understand lol.
anyone who makes this argument for kris deltarune is braindead. nothing else to say about it.
#this is a very difficult topic to discuss imo because on Some level I don't completely disagree with people who make that argument for chara#in SPIRIT. if not in action. like my point still stands characters can just Be neutral. and if that level of customization had been intended#well Pokemon's been doing the ''are you a boy or a girl'' shtick for ages. no reason why that couldn't have been included as well#but i do feel that we're supposed to identify with chara within the story. not as in chara is us but as in we are chara#and i think someone playing the game without outside interferences and (wrongly) coming to the conclusion that chara IS literally#themselves in the story. and thus call them by their own name (the one they likely inputted at the start) and pronouns#will be someone who grasped undertale's metanarrative more than someone who went in already spoiled on the NM route who thinks of chara#(and on some level frisk as well) as completely separate from us with independent wills and personhoods at any time#who treats them as nonbinary. even if their approach is more ''appropriate'' to a gender neutral person#systematic error vs manually changing every measure to fit what you already think is going to be the correct result. ykwim?#of course this opens a whole new parentheses while discussing the game outside of your personal experience#because even if you DO see chara as a self insert then they are a self insert for EVERYONE. women men genderqueer people#i don't call chara ''biscia'' even though that's what i named the fallen human in my playthrough. neither do i use they because i also do#if you're describing the character/story objectively in how they are executed then you're going to talk about them neutrally#because you ain't the only sunovabitch who played the darn game sonny#so like. either way you turn it. even in the most self insert reading you'd STILL logically use they/them so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ git gud#answered asks

Sonny Carisi: okay with it until you start to reach his level of education. he does not want you to be more high-achieving than he is, it would hurt his masculinity and the way he thinks his family perceives your relationship, and family is very important to him.

I am obsessed with this lmao this is my canon and I accept nothing else thanks.

I hate that JK Rowling being the worst person has made me feel so conflicted about reading and loving HP fanfic but fact remains this is an all time fave and I still think about it regularly.

God this series. This beautiful, painful, unfinished series. Will it ever be finished? Unlikely. That doesn’t make it any less fucking incredible. It’s one of the most hauntingly beautiful things I’ve ever read.

You rap on the door. You can see the TV light on through the window of this house! Hell, you can even see a bowl full of expensive chocolate right through the glasswork on the door! Why on Earth is it taking so long to just give up some candy already?
After eons of waiting, the door finally opens. Brighter than the lights inside the house is the head of highlighter-yellow hair before you. He isn't even wearing anything seasonal; just a baggy black T-shirt that says "this is my costume" haphazardly thrown over sweatpants.
He looks down at you, apathetic. "Sorry, I don't have candy."
Your face tightens. "You're literally holding a bowl full of chocolates."
"Yeah. I'm not giving them away." To add insult to injury, Sonny unwraps a Godiva and pops it into his mouth. "I'll be going now. Have a good night."
The door shuts.
At least, he attempts to shut the door. However, you stuck your foot out in the threshold, preventing it from closing all the way.
Through the crack in the door, Sonny squints. "Why are you so insistent about my candy?"
"Because you're my boss, Taichou! Give a Briskadet a break already and let me have some!"
"No."
"But I work for you!"
"Payday is next week."
"But it's Halloween and I want a freakin' truffle!"
"Fine, whatever. Now get your foot out of the door before I amputate it.”
The door opens up again, but Sonny sets the bowl of chocolates aside, and holds the door open so you can enter. "Well? If you're going to be a brat about candy, the least you could do is step inside and spend the evening watching horror movies with me. These Ghirardelli’s aren’t going to eat themselves.”
Something sinister crosses over his face. This is the first time he’s smiled since you knocked on his door, but the curve of his lip is menacing. “Unless you’re too chicken to join in. Are you?”

I literally NEVER do asks but I have to,
As predictable (being his number one fan ever) I really want anyyyy tidbits about Sonny,,, I need to know more about the beloved, i need to know,,,
anyways, is it okay that I made a band au version of my recently made oc? An idea just sprung into my mind and I can't get over it. Already drew it n everything but I wanted to double double check.

so, there's not all too much i can really say if i ever do anything, since most of the things i've thought about are pretty plot-relevant. i can try to put a couple things
so, he still dies but he's not quite as, well, helpful. he kinda fell into a slump sine he worked so hard on everything with the band and, in his lifetime they weren't really all too popular. so he's been in some piece of tech, a computer still, and thinks things over.
oh, he's been almost erased from company history, not in like a gaster way though, more like the company blacks out any images of his face
i'll make him a little bio once i have enough n decide if i'll actually make a story of this or kinda just release little tidbits little-by-little. what i could tell you is the songs in the playlist i had added because of sonny's involvement in the story though
i have a few little sketches of his (concept) design so here, have a concept (not great quality screenshots)
they'll probably change but y'know. it's somethin' though
as for ocs, yeah. that's perfectly alright. band-ify your little guys if you want! basically the only guideline is that they can't have an instrument that someone else in the band has (though, a guitar or different type of drum are both alright) and kinda have a rock-esc aesthetic to them

obviously screw vlatko but like… everyday i think about where we’d be today if he didn’t throw sonnett into that sweden game
(and to be perfectly clear lol i think he was setting her up to fail and he doesn’t deserve praise) but she’s been so so SO good in the midfield her evolution is just mind blowing to think about
overall she deserves the world and i’m very happy for her (and proving the haters so SO wrong)
I think about the misuse/under usage of Sonny a lot.
I think that Vlatko should’ve started prepping Sonnett as soon as JJ was injured, instead of waiting to see if she would/could make it back.
I don’t think that Vlatko failed her as much as Jill did. He valued her from the start, but Jill only saw Son as a Kelley replacement.
Sonnett going to Sweden gave her the confidence that she’s always needed. She became a different player. You’re right she has been great in the midfield, but honestly she plays the same way that she always did at CB. It’s just so much more obvious in the midfield, because she is involved so much more.

that 19x08 moment when they’re the back at the precinct from west virginia and carisi has been the human embodiment of the 😐 since rollins hooked up with that bartender and she proceeds to render him absolutely speechless saying “you know i’m human, right? and human people have sex sometimes with people they love, sometimes with people they don’t even know. and sometimes with people who are pains in the ass.” THEN GIVES HIM THAT LOOK AND CARISI’S FACE IS JUST…….that man was already mentally planning a wedding and picking out baby names.

I've had this idea for a while and was wondering if you could please write it (nothing long or anything). How would the yandere svu (all the guys you write for) react to a reader who's just genuinely academically smarter than them. I feel like a few of them wouldn't take it well, and their reactions would be funny. Love your blog.
Mike Dodds is going to love that about you, and he’s going to brag about you to everyone he knows. “Look, this is my brilliant partner!” Only after his father talks to him does he see it as a bad thing, ‘a threat to his manliness.’
Sonny Carisi is going to be happy for you and proud of you, unless it comes to a you vs him situation. Like if you were both studying for the bar exam, or sergeant’s exam? He’s going to manipulate you to make you feel stupid for sure.
Nick Amaro likes a strong partner, so he probably won’t mind much. But if you make him look stupid in any way, he’s going to punish you for sure. And to his kids, he always has to be the smarter one. No question about it, and he’ll hurt you if you disagree.
Rafael Barba is… the worst. If you’re smarter than him, than you’re really fucking smart. He’ll be fine as long as you don’t try to outwit him or prove anything, especially in front of his co-workers. If you do, you’re getting manipulated and punished for sure.

It was irritatingly easy to forgive Rafael for leaving him, to take him back again, welcome him into his home, his arms, his bed. Rafael held a piece of Sonny’s heart that could never be replaced, and as such, left him open and vulnerable and yearning.
But as he looked at Rafael beside him, watched the lights from the cars on the street below light Rafael’s peaceful, sleeping face up in brief interludes, he found he couldn’t care much. Because this, right here, was worth all the heartache that preceded it and could possibly follow.
Having Rafael by his side was worth it for as long as it lasted.
