After my last Army Special Ops operation implodes, I find myself medically discharged and alone. The fun bonus? Divorce papers from my ex.

All I own in this world is a boat anchored in small-town Starlight Bay. I figure I’ll hole up for the summer while I plan my next move. The last thing I expect is to fall for my customer on the first day of my new construction job.

She’s a curvy ray of sunshine and I have no business being with her—she’s too young, too sweet, too innocent. But the more time I spend with her, the harder I fall.

I should definitely walk away before we both end up getting hurt. Only problem? I’m in too deep and she just might be the one who can heal me.

The Heart of the Wounded Hero series was created to pay tribute to and raise awareness of our wounded heroes. Each of the over sixty authors involved have contributed time, money, and stories to the cause. These love stories are inspiring and uplifting, showing the sacrifice of our veterans but also giving them the happily ever after they deserve.

By increasing awareness through our books, we believe we can in a small part help the wounded heroes that have sacrificed so much.

This Day in History: Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

On this day in 1921, an unidentified soldier from World War I is interred in a Tomb—the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. President Warren Harding spoke at the ceremony. He opened with these words:

"We are met today to pay the impersonal tribute. The name of him whose body lies before us took flight with his imperishable soul. We know not whence he came, but only that his death marks him with the everlasting glory of an American dying for his country."

Emblazoned on the back of the Tomb are the words:

Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God

Today I was sent this prefect picture of motherhood. Today is Draven's first day AT school... kindergarten was all virtual. He's in the back and says he's pretty excited about starting first grade, but also "small scared". My daughter Briana is up front and facing away from him as she's trying to hide her tears of worry... her fear of going back to a quiet home... an emptiness is suddenly hitting her. She's grieving a time when she had him all to herself, every day, every night, always "mommy mommy mommy" having to help with everything, having to answer everything. She knows she'll get him back later today, but she also knows that this is him facing and taking down one of many hurdles to come in his race to adulthood. Moms. We all know that moms are supposed to soldier on... through everything and for everyone. It's a lot of happy moments, scary moments, worrisome moments, angry moments, stressful moments, they're all moments that we don't really get to process. They happen, we react, we move on... because that laundry isn't going to do itself. We carry all of this in our hearts, it weighs heavy upon our shoulders, and it imprints onto our souls. Every milestone is one movement closer to them being gone... and she knows that... she's feeling that. But in an effort to not scare him... she's facing away and hiding her own tears of fear, worry, and displacement. She's grieving an era that she knows is gone. In doing so, she's creating a reel of these moments, these little opportunities to capture a piece of them that will play into her reel of memories that will eventually comfort her when they're gone. These tiny little moments that seem so inconsequential to others are so big for us. Please... don't laugh at a mom for getting all emotional.
