2Luo Fluff Fic - My Shelter
A short little fic that’s just pure soft sweetness
https://archiveofourown.org/works/47209492
Rating: Gen
Relationship: Luo Fei (Detective L)/Luo Fusheng
Unwinding with a good book was Luo Fei’s way of celebrating the case being closed successfully. Everyone had their own little thing and he learned very early, back when he still was a police officer, that the celebratory drinks that many of his then colleagues enjoyed was not his thing. So instead the evenings after successful cases found him some variations of this. Although Fusheng was a more recent addition, Luo Fei could confidently say it was one of the best additions to his life that he ever had. --- Luo Fei and Fusheng enjoy a soft evening together after finishing up a case.

Note
got sent this today, feel free to ignore, but i wanted to pass it on anyway :D - Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Yesss, self-love! \o/
*ahem*
First of all, I can't believe I posted 50 fics over the last two and a half years. What. HOW! Anyway, I tried to pick 5 works across different(-ish) fandoms, so it wouldn't be all Guardian. For extra fun, all of these feature Zhu Yilong in some way, as he is pretty much responsible for all this-- let's call it productivity. Here goes!
grow into a greater want » Guardian, Weilan, 8700 words, rated E
This is my longest Guardian fic, and I remember it taking several starts until it all came together in my head. It's about commitment issues and power dynamics and sex, and also tries to be a bit of a comedy. (Da Qing MVP.)
(and form a new heart in me) » Guardian/Time Engraver fusion, 6200 words, rated T
You gotta write a Time Engraver fic, right? I was going for a melancholy fairytale mood and I think it worked out quite nicely. Seeing as I usually fill my fics with soft little scenes where people fall asleep, the big dramatic climax was very fun to write.
Rendezvous Point » Guardian/The Rebel RPF, Bai Yu/Zhu Yilong/Wang Yang, 7400 words, rated E
Guardian RPF is how I started writing again after a decade of... not writing, and that fic is still the longest thing I've ever ever written. (Had a lot of feelings about those guys.) This one holds a special place in my heart because it's just excessively soft and bantery and also the first time I attempted a threesome, which is just. So many body parts to keep track of.
start a big fire in a one room apartment » Weilan Derivative, 6000 words, rated E
A fusion AU that imagines Han Chen (from Memory Lost) as a young mob boss in (Granting You a Dreamlike Life's) Dongjiang instead of a cop in Lanxi province. He's still insufferable and Luo Fusheng is sadly into it. Contains some of my favorite lines to this day and like, all the big stupid romance tropes. In addition to the... quite D/s-heavy sex scenes. A theme in these self-recs, I realize now.
making anything last, keeping anything safe (+ Podfic!) » DMBJ (Reboot), Wu Xie/Bai Haotian with established Pingxie, 7750 words, rated M
Bit of an outlier, but I'm very fond of it. Takes the premise of, "What if sex pollen! :-D" and then gets a bit serious about the mutual consent issues involved. But not too serious. I mean, we're here for a good time! Mainly written for my girl Xiao Bai and like, the two other people who might even be vaguely interested in this pairing. (Got a surprising amount of attention, considering.)
That was fun, thank you Eru!

Because sometimes you just gotta say “Fuck it we’ll do it live!”
This photoset is really the gift that keeps on giving XD
In her defense, the inciting incident was Luo Fusheng’s fault.
Lin Ruomeng and him had been sitting side by side on the couch, so close their thighs were touching, when he leaned into her space with a smirk and called her tiny.
Which, of course, she knew already. It wasn’t anything she was self-conscious about, but she could already imagine his teasing. Ruomeng just continued to read the book laying on her lap and ignoring him.
Fusheng’s smirk only got wider. He reached up to lightly tap her nose, and she scrunched her face at the calloused finger. She heard his soft laughter.
And something about his actions reminded her of how he acted around her when they had barely known each other. He was very assertive when controlling the space around them. Fusheng had no qualms about being in her space, pinning her to couches, waving papers in her face…
He still invites himself into her space, but the controlling edge of it is long gone. Then it became clear his tough guy, in-charge attitude was an act-
That gave her an idea.
Ruomeng carefully set aside her book on the end table to her right. She turned towards Fusheng and wrapped her arms around his torso just above his hips. At her sweet smile, maybe a bit too sickly sweet, Fusheng’s smirk evaporated.
Before Fusheng could get too suspicious, using the strength she’d gained from all her opera training, Ruomeng pulled him onto her lap. She shifted her legs under his and pulled them over until they dangled on her other side. Ruomeng finally linked her fingers together to cup his hip. Fusheng towered over her even more and she laughed softly at how ridiculous they must look.
“Not so tiny I can’t do this.” She joked between giggles.
Ruomeng looked up to look at Fusheng, expecting to find something baffled or maybe even offended, but only finding his wide eyes, and before Fusheng had shut it away she swore something vulnerable there.
Oh. Oh.
Ruomeng just held on more tightly, holding Fusheng more fiercely against her, and rested her head on his arm.
But the moment had already passed, and next thing she knew Fusheng was climbing off. He sharply stood up and turned to look at Ruomeng. He gaped open-mouthed for a long moment, but walked away without another word.
Ruomeng could only stare.
Ruomeng couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Ruomeng frowned at the boiling water. She’d made dinner so many times for them by now she could go through the motions, and let her mind wander.
It was supposed to be a joke. But Fusheng had felt so good on her lap and-
She covered her burning face with her hands. Ruomeng never knew how good it would feel to actually do something like that. She knew how it felt to be the recipient of romantic gestures. She and Xu Xingcheng had so many incredible experiences, but it all felt so empty. On the other hand, Fusheng had never been one for those grand moments but had just stood by her and had done so much for her.
It felt so good to have the balance tip to herself for once. To not be an empty vessel to only receive affection from the men who were obsessed with her.
Ruomeng dryly laughed as she continued to make dinner. No, there was no one else she’d rather turn the tables on than Luo Fusheng.
Ruomeng had just finished making dinner when Fusheng returned. He opened his mouth to say something, but seemed to change his mind. Their conversation during the meal was casual. There was something...  not tense in the air, but something undeniable. They had cleaned up after the meal together. They still didn’t talk about it as they did their nighttime rituals.
When it was finally time for bed Fusheng immediately pressed himself to her back. His arm snaked around her side, and his chin rested on the top of her head.
“Goodnight.” He whispered as he held her tightly. “I love you.”
Ruomeng’s heart swelled. She would never get tired of hearing him say that to her. “And I love you, Luo Fusheng.” She felt his jaw move, likely a smile, and she couldn’t help but smile too.
Lin Ruomeng exhaled slowly, drifting off to sleep and wondered if maybe she could persuade him to let her spoon him.
The next time was an accident.
They were walking down the busy streets of Dongjiang, Ruomeng excitedly talking about her plans for her latest opera movie, and Fusheng staring at her and intently listening.
Perhaps a bit too intently, because he stepped right on the edge of an uneven part of the sidewalk, then his ankle twisted and he could only hope Ruomeng didn’t hear the sickening snap.
Fusheng winced. He could already tell there’s no way of putting pressure on that foot, so his hopes of not falling flat on his face were dashed.
Fusheng suddenly felt lean arms around his torso. Thinking she was only holding him up he tried to lean backwards to right himself. Of course what he didn’t plan for was Ruomeng pulling him too, and causing him to overcorrect and start falling the other way.
Thankfully Ruomeng had learned her lesson, and she just stopped him from falling.
Luo Fusheng has dipped a lot of people before. Women at Mei Gao Mei when he got drunk enough, and Xu Xingchen before- well just before. The point was he had never been in this position before.
Ruomeng’s arms were surprisingly strong under his curved back. Fusheng’s stance felt steady even with only one foot actually planted on the ground. It shouldn’t have surprised him since he’d seen all the acrobatics and movement opera performers needed, but to experience it-
“Are you okay?!” Ruomeng frantically asked, likely because of his rapidly heating face. Thankfully she then helped ease him to the ground. Luo Fusheng must’ve done a decent job hiding his clenched jaw and sweaty forehead when she helped roll up his jeans, because the worry on her face didn’t increase.
His ankle was at least twice as big as it usually was.
“You need to go to the hospital.” Ruomeng said, and normally he’d deny it, usually Luo Fusheng would say he just needed to put ice on it, but Ruomeng’s eyes were so wide and worried and guilty he didn’t really have the willpower to argue with her.
“On the condition you don’t feel at fault.” He said, seeing a rare opportunity to try and talk her out of feeling guilty for things she shouldn’t.
Ruomeng opened her mouth to try and argue, but  Fusheng beat her to it. “I’m not going unless you admit it’s not your fault. I was the one not paying attention.”
Luo Fusheng could feel Ruomeng’s gaze over his bruising ankle and knew she must’ve blamed herself. He could see her wanting to argue.
“Okay.” Ruomengfinally agreed. The worry seemed to drain away from her face, but Fusheng knew it was just her pretending. He wanted to assure her again, but knew better than to push his luck. She turned until her back was to him, crouched down, leaning towards him until he was plastered against her back and she had his legs under each arm.
“Ruomeng, what are you doING PUT ME DOWN!” Fusheng tightly wrapped his arms around her neck as she pulled herself up into a standing position. With him on her back.
“Ruomeng put me down, I’m too heavy.” He tried to say it seriously, but he doubted it was effective.
“Aw, I think you’re just fine.” She replied playfully, half bent over but seeming to bear his weight alright.
Today was too much.
Ruomeng’s steps were slow, but steady as she started towards the direction of the hospital.
A small, treacherous part of Luo Fusheng was just relieved. Of course he was perfectly capable of hobbling down to the hospital himself, or getting there by using Ruomeng as a crutch, but...the red-hot throbbing of his ankle reminded him how difficult it would’ve been.
Lin Ruomeng’s calm, steady breathing didn’t seem to change. Her firm grip on his thighs didn’t falter.
It was all nice. Very nice. Too nice.
Luo Fusheng gave up, and just buried his face in Ruomeng’s hair. He pretended not to hear the occasional whispering when they walked past.
The next time, Luo Fusheng had enough.
They had been sitting on the couch again, and Ruomeng had slid her arms around his waist. This time, at her pulling, he easily resisted. Ruomeng quickly pulled back when she realized he did not want to be moved.
Ruomeng didn’t seem upset or bothered, and it just made him feel even more guilty. She shouldn’t have to do these things.
“It’s not...normal,” He said. And that had to be the explanation right? He was uncomfortable.
Ruomeng’s easy expression melted away to something much more pinched. Fusheng cursed in his head, he had meant to reassure her, not upset her.
“When has anything about our relationship been normal?” she demanded, crossing her arms. “We were everything from enemies to friends before we kissed.”
“This is different. How can I live as a man-”
Lin Ruomeng scoffed. “This excuse again? You moved into my apartment even before we dated, my reputation be damned.”
Now that rubbed Fusheng the wrong way, he just did it to protect her! And yes, he probably shouldn’t have just invited himself to move in the day after Tianci almost - but he didn’t do it to tease or ruin her.
Ruomeng abruptly stood up, and quickly walked away into the kitchen.
Fusheng stared after her for a long moment. He sharply exhaled before standing up himself and walking out of the apartment to his motorcycle.
When Fuseheng came back later, he was genuinely surprised to see dinner waiting.
He silently set the table as Ruomeng finished preparing the meal.
They both started eating in silence, before Ruomeng finally spoke up.
“You know I could never look down on you,”
“Never?” He joked, or at least tried to.
“You have always done so much for me, Fusheng.”
And Luo Fusheng tries to deny it, to explain his ulterior motives, to try to prevent her from thinking he’s a better man than he is, when Ruomeng’s expression changes slightly. Fusheng could see the exact moment whatever she realized clicked in her head.
For a split moment he’s terrified she’s just now understanding what she’s gotten herself into with him.
“I like doing these things,” She finally admitted. “I like knowing I can. I like that it makes me feel more like an equal partner. I don’t have to always just receive affection, I can give it to the man I love too.”
As bad as it is to Fusheng’s heart  to so casually hear Ruomrng say she loved him, he never ever wanted her to stop.
Luo Fusheng stared at her for a long moment. How could he have not realized? Ruomeng had always been expected to marry Tianci, no matter what she had to say on the matter. Xingcheng had always done those grand romantic gestures, and their relationship still fell apart. Of course Ruomeng having a say in the trajectory of a relationship would become so important to her, since for a long time no one cared.
Fusheng had definitely done more stressful things than being… held to make sure that Ruomeng was safe and happy.  This was nothing in comparison.
It was far more than Luo Fusheng deserved.
“But if you’re uncomfortable- ” She tried to say, but Fusheng’s raised hand made her fall silent.
“If it makes you happy,” he said, “Then it doesn’t bother me.”
Ruomeng knew Luo Fusheng had intentions as soon as he slid beside her on the couch with a smirk on his face.
“Miss Lin Ruomeng.” He playful declared, although his arm around her shoulder was anything but formal. “I, Luo Fusheng, ask you to accompany me on a ride around our fair city and a picnic by the river.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Are you making the food?”
Fusheng faked a devastated look. “Nothing that I had to use the stove for.” He said. “I quite miss your company.”
Which on the surface made perfect sense. She had been insanely busy with the filming of her newest opera movie. Even their tradition of dinners together has been skipped at times.
But Fusheng also must know the stress she’s been under. How poorly she’s slept because of it. And here he was offering a relaxing day. Ruomeng was already imagining her arms around his torso as he speeds past buildings on his motorcycle, the wind blowing through her hair. She could already picture the park by the river Xingyuan loves to paint sometimes, the humid air hitting her face. The company of this man who loved her so deeply and fiercely.
It was precisely what she needed, and Fusheng was not letting himself admit he just wanted to be good to her. And in all honesty, she was tired of it.
Before he even had time to react, she had him pinned on the other side of the couch, her sitting on the edge but also using her torso to keep him there. Luo Fusheng, in contrast to her when he did this, went completely still. He tested the strength of her grip, he could easily escape if he wanted to, but just went still again.
Lin Ruomeng leaned in close.
“Oh?” She starts, “What’s in it for me? What do I get for being dragged around all day?”
Luo Fusheng looked up at her, something terribly and beautifully vulnerable and soft in his expression, and she knew she couldn’t keep the act up for long.
“Why not use your body?” Ruomeng rushes out, making her smirk similar to his when he did this exact thing to her. Although she took great pride in knowing she didn’t turn nearly as red as he was!
Fusheng curled one of his legs and let it fall over the other, effectively covering his crotch. Of course she saw it anyway.
And Lin Ruomeng took great pleasure in dragging him into an upright position and only letting go of his wrists to unbutton his jeans.
Ruomeng and Fusheng had been walking when she had decided to get revenge.
She recognized the alleyway where Fusheng confessed (again). Ruomeng remembered his heavy breathing in her ear, she remembered the feel of those bricks against her back…
Ruomeng wrapped her arm around his waist, pressing close and smiling up at him. Fusheng was instantly suspicious.
She guided them around until their positions were reversed. Then she gently pushed him against the wall.
At first he thought she was just going to press him against there, a prospect that was already leaving him a bit weak in the knees, but Ruomeng soon proved she wasn’t going to be satisfied with just that.
She bent her legs slightly, hooked her arms around his legs, and lifted. He made a desperate bid to grab onto the bricks and try to muffle an extremely embarrassing sound as her hands slid down to grip the back of his knees.
Ruomeng looked up to get a good look at his deeply red face. The quirk in her lips was a bit too soft for a smirk, but far too smug for a smile. The hidden strength of her hands and torso had no problems keeping him pinned to the bricks, and the effortless reminder that Ruomeng was so much stronger than people thought she was. And for her to use that on him, it felt overwhelmingly good. Fusheng couldn’t even begin to articulate why, she’d probably laugh at him if he tried to get poetic, but he desperately tried not to be too swept up in the relief and safe weakness and Ruomeng’s power-
“You better kiss me right now, or I won’t be responsible for-” He breathed, barely even a whisper, before Ruomeng crushed her mouth against his.
This time Fusheng couldn’t even hold back his moan.
Neither of them were sure how long they kissed, but eventually they had to stop for air. They continued like this for a few more rounds. Eventually she pulled back, still excruciatingly close, breathed heavily.
Her lipstick was smudged all over her mouth.
“We need to get going.” She breathed. His head felt so odd and spacey and so overwhelmed it took a moment for him to understand what she was talking about. When it finally dawned on him he stretched his legs to loosen her grip and set himself on the ground. She stepped back and after another quick look at Fusheng’s face she laughed. “You have lipstick all over your face.”
Ruomeng reached into her purse and took out a tissue. When she was done he turned over his hand to return the favor, but judging by her suddenly alarmed expression he figured it was unwelcome.
Although she did let him reapply her lipstick for her.
Ruomeng woke up to tossing and turning and the muffled whimpers that told her Fusheng was having a nightmare. She quickly shook him awake. He woke up with a quiet gasp, and then seemed to not breathe for a moment. She just silently rubbed his chest.
“I-I’m sorry. You must be tired.” he whispered. His eyes were criminally red and wet, and Ruomeng couldn’t decide whether she’d be devastated to see him cry or relieved that he would actually let himself do so.
“Don’t be sorry.” Ruomeng firmly said. She doubted he believed her, but that was a fight for another day. She laid there as she quietly sang, gently running her hands over his neck and hair, as Fusheng tried to shake off the remains of the nightmare. It was a process they were both familiar with by now.
She was half asleep when she heard him speak up again. “Ruomeng?”
“Hmm?”
“Will you...Would you be willing to....spoon....” And while he might’ve trailed off, she understood what he was trying to ask.
She tried not to let too much of her delight show, but how quickly she pressed herself against his back the second he turned over was undeniable.
Ruomeng adjusted herself until her knees were behind his as she pushed them into a more curled position. She pressed a kiss to the middle of his back. Her grip around his torso was on the verge of being too tight.
He must not mind, because he sighed in relief. Encouraged, she started nuzzling his back as her hand reached under his shirt to pet his tummy.
It was an effective combination, because he was asleep in minutes. Ruomeng however doesn’t think she'd be able to sleep anytime soon.
Not that she was complaining. The feeling of him against her, his powerful body malleable for her alone, the love of her life enjoying this power she has over him where the other men in her life tried to stamp it out of her…
It was just too good for her not to stay awake and enjoy it.
She didn’t know how late she forced herself to stay awake, but she knew she fell asleep thinking about how this was definitely going to be an ongoing thing.

WIP Word Search
Thanks for the tag, @miss-ingno!  My words were run, brush, freeze, and I found them everywhere.  ^_^  So some of this is going to go under a cut.
I’m going to tag... @elenothar, @adorablecrab, @enechelon, @buriedbybooks, @thearchivist-theprime, @laireshi, @satonthelotuspier and as always, anyone else who would like to be tagged, please consider yourself tagged because I always forget people.  *sheepish grin*  (And naturally, no pressure to participate; only if you want to. ^_^)  The words I’m going to tag you with are... broke(n), tears, and moon.  (Also, please make your own post; don’t reblog this one and add on.)
Run
Retribution, next in my GYADL Whumptober series:
Fusheng leaned a little harder into the knife, watching another bead of blood run down its edge before pulling back.  He flicked the blood off the knife and sheathed it.  “For now?”  He nodded down at his arm.  “A bandage would be a kindness.”
Lighthouse Keeper fic, A Guardian fic I’m cowriting with @elenothar:
Zhao Yunlan winced himself awake, dimly aware of every muscle, every joint, every inch of skin, beginning to scream for his attention.  A quick pat-down revealed no major injuries, but still he *hurt.*  Then again, you stack up enough minor injuries and they could probably give a major injury a run for its money, right?  He pushed himself upright slowly, careful of the way each movement pulled at ever more new and exciting pains.  He was more muscle ache than muscle at this point and laying down for however long he'd been laying down had clearly not helped. But some things just couldn't wait, no matter how much you ached, and his bladder was starting to scream louder than every whining muscle group combined.
The Time Swap AU, a DMBJ fic:
The clothing on the other side of the closet belonged to earth tones.  Rich creams, browns, and caramels, greens and greys, a wash of blue denim, and more cozy sweaters and cardigans than you could shake a stick at.  These clothes clearly belonged to someone else.  Someone… not Xiaoge.  Wu Xie reached out to run his fingers down the sleeve of one sweater. Soft.  Thick.  Warm. These were the clothes of a man comfortable in his own skin in ways that Wu Xie feared he never would be.  But given everything, he supposed they had to be… his?
And behind a cut for the rest...
Brush
A Guardian fic inspired by one of @baiyubai’s lovely pieces of fanart:
Leaning in to arch his whiskers in a gentle brush against Zhao Yunlan's cheek, Da Qing said, "You'll be wanting me to make myself scarce then, yeah?"  Having already resigned himself to seeking entertainment elsewhere, Zhao Yunlan's brief headshake came as a surprise.  "No?"
Muet, Chapter 14, a Les Mis fic that I’ve been wanting to get back to for a while...
When the song drew to its close, the man returned Marius to the corner he’d been occupying since the start of the party. He lifted Marius’ hand to place a soft brush of a kiss across his knuckles, eyes twinkling above a smile that had shifted into a smirk around the edges.  “One dance.  I’m a man of my word.”  He turned, then, reclaimed his drink, and turned to leave.
LFS Mei Gao Mei fic, a GYADL Luo Fusheng backstory fic:
Fusheng clutched his towel more tightly to his chest, eyes wide as he pressed himself back into the wall, trying to avoid a collision as yet another group of laughing dancing girls came barreling down the hall towards the bathroom.  There was only the one on this floor, unless Fusheng wanted to go down and use the customers’ restroom or sneak upstairs to use Hong Sanxian’s.  The latter could get him fired and the former… well, he had no desire to go down to the main floor in his pajamas just to wash his face and brush his teeth.  So, it was this bathroom or no bathroom, and this bathroom was shared between all the people who lived on this floor… which included many of the dancers.
Freeze (absolutely nothing for this one, so I went with all the variations, too)
More from the DMBJ Time Swap fic:
The smile dropped from Wu Xie's face as quickly as it had appeared.  Husband?  What… *husband?*  The blood drained from his face so quickly he swayed in Pangzi's grip.
The shared closet.
The shared bed.
Sleeping *naked together.*
Morning sex.
*Husband.*
"Whoops. Shit.  Went too fast for you, did I, Tianzhen?  Xiaoge warned me there was amnesia at play here, but I didn't…" A heavy sigh.  "Where did I lose you?"
Wu Xie's voice creaked when he got it out of his frozen throat, but he managed to say, "Xiaoge… Xiaoge and I are…?"  He couldn't do it.  He couldn't get the rest of it out, just turned pleading eyes on Pangzi and hoped he would understand.
Legacies Found, the sequel to Legacies Lost, a The Untamed fic:
Just when Fazhan reached a close enough distance that he could call out to announce himself without having to raise his voice, Jiang Sizhui halted his current motion, smoothly sheathed his sword, and turned precisely ninety degrees to face Fazhan head on, one eyebrow lifted. Fazhan froze.  They stood there silently, eyes assessing, as the seconds ticked on, until Fazhan couldn’t take it anymore.  Offering Jiang Sizhui a short bow, he said, “You look a bit bored over here, drilling with the children.  Care for a spar?”

Sending you multiples in case I accidentally doubled up, since this is so late :') - 8, 13, 15, 19 & 24!
A wizard is never late... ;) also, you only doubled up one!
8. shortest completed fic you wrote this year
That would be Bear With Me, the first of the bear saga, at just under 1k.
13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year
I don't always listen to music while writing (depends on my mood and how loud everything else is being), but I've been listening to a lot of Zhou Shen this year.
15. something you learned this year
answered here (I should be able to think of something else but brain is being lazy...)
19. any new fics to start next year
Start, so not current WIPs.... hmm. On my list of ideas, I've got YOHE softness, 5 times Luo Fusheng had nightmares, and something undefined Shen Wei & Chu Shuzhi. There are others, but these are ones I'm more likely to actually get to with how present they are in my mind at the moment.
24. favorite fic you read this year
Ye gods, how is anyone able to choose? I'm going to offer one each for fandoms I've read in this year, and even that is less favourite and more this one is really good but there are so many other really good ones! (also, prepare for some honourable mentions because narrowing down the Guardian list proved nigh impossible.)
Lost Tomb Reboot: no god-fearing man, by emlof, which punches me right in the gut every time I read it
Tortall: The Tourakom-Goldenlake System of Communication, by Emnot, aka the Best Buri and Raoul fic
The Untamed/CQL: the sea / black water, by minqwi, whose Lan Xichen is just 👌
Guardian: Changes verse, by Branch, which is a truly stunning blending of canon and novel verses
Honourable mentions go to my shortlist, also featuring:
Only the plum trees, by marycrawford
Coming 'Round, by Eliza
The unofficial newsletter of Dragon City University (BioEng Dept), by frith in thorns
The Song You Gave Me, by rlyqueer
a language without an army, by nnozomi
10/10 WOULD MARRY, by aubreyli
... so there we are, with lots of cheating XD

WEILAN FIC REC
It's as the title says - the five times Shen Wei did a horny grip™ because let it be known that while Zhao Yunlan is explicitly shamelessly thirsty, Shen Wei is equally as thirsty but in a more lowkey manner. Oh, and of course, WeiLan as lesbians can't be passed up for this.(gift fic for taki who introduced the weilan lesbian agenda to me!)Hello! I finally had some time (spoiler: I actually didn’t but I can always have time for my dads) to properly make a compilation of WeiLan fanfic recommendations. I included some CN ones bc I absolutely love them to bits and pieces and some WeiLan derivatives bc why not.
Please click the kudos and leave a comment on the authors’ works to thank them and show your appreciation! <3 This will be updated periodically.
bc I’m shameless - imma shove my own weilan fics here
Title: Uhaw Summary: Shen Wei felt a smile on his face despite the seriousness of the situation. “Your loyalty will forever remain divided.” // “My loyalty is with you.” Zhao Yunlan declared. “Always has been, always will be.” [WEILAN MAFIA/GANGSTER AU 1/1] Notes: i was horny for weilan being horny for each other and being a power couple with some plot thrown in the mix im not sorry
Title: Devour Your God Summary: "The beast inside him howls and the inhumane thunderous chanting resounds in the beautiful ghost king. You remember don’t you? The more beautiful the ghost...the more terrifying."
[a look through shen wei's eyes as he goes through kunlun's multiple reincarnations until zhao yunlan; novel-compliant and shen san extra hints but should be spoiler free 1/1] Notes: sometimes we’re also sad in our weilan lives but do know they get their happy ending anyway
Title: Earlier On Summary: Zhao Yunlan starts remembering his life as Kunlun months after he first entered the world and his only clue resides on that creature (because his adult brain is now telling his baby brain that that wasn't a human) robed in white with a golden mask peering down on his crib. Notes: [novel-verse gift fic for orro AKA babey zhao yunlan having adult brain/memories who’s everyone’s source of headache]
Title: Five Times Shen Wei Did A Horny Grip Summary: It's as the title says - the five times Shen Wei did a horny grip™ because let it be known that while Zhao Yunlan is explicitly shamelessly thirsty, Shen Wei is equally as thirsty but in a more lowkey manner. Oh, and of course, WeiLan as lesbians can't be passed up for this. Notes: (gift fic for taki who introduced the weilan lesbian agenda to me!)
Title: Some Things Stay The Same and Some Don't  Summary: “Xiao Wei,” Zhao Yunlan called in a serious voice making Shen Wei stiffen in attention, “Your boobs are actually big, aren’t they?” Shen Wei almost slipped from her position at the unexpected - or well, this is Zhao Yunlan so perhaps ‘expected’ should be the term - comment. “Yunlan, honestly!” “No really, it’s bigger than mine.” “Everyone’s bigger than your tiny mangoes, stupid owner.” Da Qing laughed from the kitchen. “I think even Lin Jing and Lao Chu have bigger ones compared to you.” Notes: lesbian!weilans part 2 for emmy featuring the primordial gods, shen wei + mama zhao interaction, and kunlun taking in 2 ghost queens instead of just one
Title: Repercussions of Meddling Summary: “You know what the diviner’s instructions were, right? Gather the hallows and let fate run its course or else there can be dire consequences.” Zhao Yunlan clenched his fist as he recalls Shen Wei’s hardships paralleled with Ye Zun’s loss of sanity, the ghost lovers’ fate in an effort to protect him, the brewing war as the vision the hallows have given him on their deaths, and an ever burning flame on his soul as he watched Shen Wei disappear stay clear.“There can’t be anything more dire than that future.” The two leaders looked at each other meaningfully. “And if the bulk of the repercussions on you twisting the timeline falls on you?” Zhao Yunlan huffed in amusement and flipped his long hair to his back. “If I'm the one who has to pay then so be it.” Notes: aka ye zun is a bad influence to shen wei and add that in for 10,000 years where they're both awake, alive, and together waiting for a certain someone's reappearance in their lives --- THIS CAN GET DARK; drama canon divergence au where zhao yunlan as kunlun ends up saving ye zun in the past and meddling with time
Title: A Path Back Home Summary: The Dixing kingdom's delegation set off for a peace treaty with the kingdom of Haixing as new tides of the world was coming. For some, this was a turning point for the three kingdoms. For Ye Zun and his father, this was a chance to bring back their two other family members home with them. The past retains its stories and secrets, the present shakes the foundations of everyone's belief, and the future is a path back home. (read a/n before reading!) Notes: weilan royalty a/b/o au aka the most self-indulgent fic (it wasn’t supposed to be multi-chap but brain said ‘world building’ and now i suffer)
Title: where everything converges Summary: collection for weilan week prompts - day 1: beginnings (SID+SW meets the youngest primordial god) day 3: au (tgcf au of god!ZYL and ghost king!SW) day 7: anniversary (there will come a day where SW wakes up to the 5,000 years and 1 day of being with ZYL)
Title: in all worlds and in all timelines Summary: collection of weilan prompts (do send some and i’ll see if i can write it!)
Title: The Power of Words Summary: “You have lived for as long as I have and so you must know that words have power. The likes of old sayings and proverbs hold a decree to them the longer it’s passed around from one breathing soul to another. They become entities and binding spells on their own through time.”
“What has that got to do with anything right now? Ghost Slayer, you are already treading a dangerous path with the choices you have made the past months. Do I still need to remind you of this?” the spirit asked.
The black robed creature acted as if he didn’t hear his companion and spoke once more. “I suppose it doesn’t matter right as of this moment,” he crossed his legs and continued, “Let me tell you a story; a secret.” Notes: it was supposed to be a oneshot but my need for novel shen wei characterization bled through so now it’s a 3shot *sigh*
***
Title:  狗在江湖 Notes: this is a mix of novel and drama elements AND it’s a/b/o AND it has 30 chapters so obv i cried
Title: Sweet Dreams Summary:  朱白ABO,架空末世微悬疑。 Notes: okay so it was weird for me at first bc they were using zhubai’s names until i realized they were pertaining to weilan derivative in general AND OKAY LISTEN - the plot??? THE PLOT??? GLORIOUS
Title: 我说所有的酒都不如你 Summary: 这大概是一个东江二哈狼和东江气死猫你追我跑你继续追我假装跑你拼命追我跑不动了的爱情故事(。 Notes: 2Luo aka Luo Fusheng x Luo Fei weilan derivative and this is legit my favorite derivative fic!!! they mixed both dramas and fed me sentinel + guide trope AND THEN WOW PLOT
***
Title:  Black Cloak Reversed Summary:  Chief Zhao is a little too friendly with the Black-Cloaked Envoy. The members of the SID worry that he's being emotionally disloyal to Professor Shen. Notes: drama; zhao yunlan is a filthy, thirsty man and SID mourns over this fact
Title:  my heart broke loose on the wind Summary:  If Yunlan is going to learn how to make actual food that requires more effort than just boiling water and putting hot water into stuff, he’s going to have to take all the notes. “Right,” he says to himself. “How hard can it be?” He watches all twenty-two minutes and fourteen seconds of Chef Shen's video without fast-forwarding. When it comes to an end, he clicks on the replay button. He ends up taking zero notes, and the only thing he manages to learn from the whole exercise is that Chef Shen -Shen Wei- is really fucking beautiful when he smiles. Notes: au; alternative summary - ye zun: how thirsty are you for my bro zhao yunlan: thirsty? pls im a paragon of all things holy, i am a kind and generous citizen of the world, i am - ye zun: i can help you get in his pants  zhao yunlan: - thirsty af; i am very thirsty
Title:  when we reunite, the world will tilt on its axis Summary:  Zhao Yunlan tries to figure out how he should approach the matter of young Shen Wei. Notes: drama; babey!shen wei who's so earnest and genuinely in-love ahhh im soft
Title:  Wild Thing, Stop Your Teasing Summary: Shen Wei’s eyelid twitch as Yunlan unwraps another lollipop, closes his spit-shiny lips around the spherical head while looking at Shen Wei under dark eyes and thick lashes. Fists clenched on his pant leg, Shen Wei swallows and tamps down the urge to grab Yunlan across the table. Notes: drama; when you think zhao yunlan's thirst has a limit - he goes an open his mouth but hey shen wei's head over heels thousands of years ago already anyway
Title:  Tease the Wild Thing Summary: Yunlan's POV from shaenanigans' awesome fic ''Wild Thing, Stop your Teasing''. Yeah, it's the one with the lollipops, and the porn with feels. You know. The Good Stuff. Notes: more weilan smut after the one above?? SIGN ME TF UP
Title:  without complexities or pride Summary:  “Kunlun Hall’s rules do not apply to you,” Yunlan says simply, moving to steep some tea for Shen Wei. “You are the Black Cloak Envoy. Lord Kunlun holds you in high regard.” “And you hold him in high regard,” Shen Wei adds before he’s able to stop himself. Shen Wei can hear the wretched jealousy in his own voice, and no doubt Yunlan can as well, because Yunlan’s smile turns sly, and his eyes are very knowing when he says, “In a way, I suppose I do.” Notes: (Or, the Not-Exactly-A-Courtesan!Yunlan fic.) >> im crying bc YES
Title:  Every ridge hand-picked by the late sun’s slant light Summary:  Zhao Yunlan gets up to greet this man, his destiny – who is currently scowling behind his fancy embroidered mask – and smiles as filthily as he can make it. Whatever else they might be to each other, Shen Wei has been taunting him for weeks. Zhao Yunlan is going to take him home and fuck him until he cries and he wants Shen Wei to know that. “Long time, no see,” he says. The Black Cloaked Envoy blanches. Notes: when i say i thirst for weilan papapa where shen wei loses his self control - I MEAN IT
Title:  that's where you belong Summary:  First of all, how dare Shen Wei. Second of all, Zhao Yunlan has been looking forward to this for like, as long as he's been aware that Shen Wei is an alpha. Third of all -- Notes: im crying bc all i ever wanted was for novel weilan's characterization bc i know their papapa would be the hottest with that and i have been fed with this need and even partnered w/ a/b/o trope /SOBS
Title:  Just Cared Too Much Summary:  Zhao Yun Lan found out his father was dead while he was pouring concrete down the throat of a backstabbing dickbag. “Chief, I'm sorry, the Boss is gone. Shot to the head, on his way to meet the Russians.” Notes: i was dying to have a mafia au and this appeared THANK YOU; and def one of the other things that pushed me to finish my own mafia au for weilan lol
Title:  家教 - or - Domestic Education Summary:  Shen Wei is the Ghost King, born out of the unyielding chaos of entropy that had consumed the underworld before the creation of the wheel of reincarnation. He's the cosmic guardian of death and all her darlings, and the universe through the lens of his eye is rife with demons, hungry ghosts, and shadows creeping out of their places. So there is absolutely no way he is getting sick. Notes: im novel verse trash and we get that PLUS mama!zhao uhh hell yes???
Title:  Sarva Summary:  Or, 一切. At work, in public, Shen Wei is meticulously, seamlessly polite. In bed, he's something else. Notes:  this was the first weilan smut i read AND ALL THE YES BC SHEN WEI LOSING IT FOR ZHAO YUNLAN IS MY KINK
Title:  Future Forged Summary: Masquerading as Kunlun, Zhao Yunlan sets out on a mission to recover the stolen Hallows alongside the young Shen Wei. Along the way, he discovers new abilities, forges new bonds, unearths old histories, and learns that the universe goes beyond his wildest imagination. Notes: lol way better take on what happened during that time travel thing than what the drama had
Title:  who you allow Summary: But then Zhao Yunlan goes and gets a haircut, and Shen Wei. Pouts. For like three days. Notes: for the record - i, too, believe shen wei will pout bc of this
Title:  Significant Other Colour Summary: Collars are so old-fashioned and Zhao Yunlan can’t help but feel that there’s an ulterior motive hiding behind Shen Wei’s innocently widened eyes. Notes: tfw i've tried to bury my needs on acknowledging how shen wei canonically wants to lock up zhao yunlan and then this fic hits me - author pls let me love you (for y'all heed the warnings)
Title:  Afterimage Summary:  Zhu Yi Long is an awkward turtle. Now he has to deal with letting Shen Wei and Ye Zun go. Notes:  okay so im not really into fics on real people but this was done so well? it explores the effects of zhu yilong's method acting and sets straight that zhubai and weilan are not one and the same at the end of the day
Title:  Twill Seeker Summary: The young master has a thing for the butler. The butler is at the end of his rope. Notes: if anyone comes after me and my apparent need for butler shen wei and young master zhao yunlan, hide me
Title:  When You're Old, You Want To Celebrate Birthdays At Home Summary: Shen Wei comes home to a surprise. Notes: me, wiping a tear: oh look, a ye zun characterization i actually like even if he's mentioned only
Title:  do nothing day Summary:  “The stress of work is exhausting me and my wife is scolding me now,” Zhao Yunlan pretends to whine, hiding his face in the blankets. “You’ve seen who I work with, those stubborn kids who cause me nothing but trouble. You’re supposed to be on my side, meant to pity me when the world turns against me. I deserve this day off and I reserve the right to do as I please. And if I want to be a slug in the bed then that’s what I’m going to do.” Notes: "It’s so gentle that Shen Wei almost can’t stand it, the way Zhao Yunlan lets him do as he likes, just receiving whatever Shen Wei wants to give him. And there’s so much that Shen Wei wants to lavish onto his Zhao Yunlan." -- dont bother for the ambulance i know im DOA
Title:  Heat and Desire Summary: Five times Zhao Yunlan had an oral fixation and one time Shen Wei did something about it. Notes: "You tease me, Zhao Yunlan," Shen Wei whispers, his breath tickling against Zhao Yunlan’s ear. "You tease me and you tease me and you seem to think that I won't do anything about it." -- me, choking: IM FINE
Title:  Just A Phone Call Away Summary:  Chief Zhao gets hurt on a case and nobody wants to be the one to call Professor Shen and tell him.... Notes: SID family + shen wei's first reaction to the call??? sign me up
Title:  Never Losing You Summary:  Yunlan can't open his eyes, can't shut his mouth. Needy, keening noises pour out of his throat completely out of his control. Shen Wei's closed fist is around him, pumping fast and tight in rhythm to his fucking, making him see stars exploding behind closed eyelids, thoroughly engulfed by the incredible sensations racketing up and down his spine originating from where they're so deliciously joined. Shen Wei's other hand cradles his jaw, careful, reverent, but also serves to ground Yunlan to the bed so Shen Wei can fuck him harder, deeper. Notes: i can never have enough weilan papapa bc if canon doesn't give me the explicit juicy details then im turning to fic writers with metaphorical gold payment
Title:  third time's the charm Summary: “I’m what Da Qing likes to describe as ‘especially tenacious’ when I’m in heat, even more so when I have a specific Alpha in mind,” Yunlan tells him, casual. (Or, three times Shen Wei helps Zhao Yunlan through his heat.) Notes: me, looking through the window with a faraway look: a/b/o universe makes me weak even if it's not even explicit
Title: this secret language that we speak Summary: "If you don't want to do this any more," says Shen Wei, "you get off the couch, and we'll do whatever you want. Do you understand?" Zhao Yunlan is so hot he thinks he's going to light the couch on fire. He swallows and nods."I didn't hear you," says Shen Wei, implacable as death. "Do you understand?" Zhao Yunlan has to clear his throat, and when he manages to speak, his voice is gravelled with arousal. "Yeah. I do." "Good," says Shen Wei. Notes: i cried 69 times bc my horny ass is fed and jfc domineering shen wei??? *cries for the 70th time*
Title: Shen Wei Summary: Shen Wei loves Zhao Yunlan, and there is only so long he can feign otherwise. Notes: [Zhao Yunlan gives a small shrug, uninvested in the argument. “All right. And where do you belong?” Shen Wei freezes, flashes of memory assaulting him, of Kunlun’s skin hot against his, of promises moaned against each other’s necks. Inside you is all he can think.] BINCH I DIED AT THIS PART
Title: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This Summary: Zhao Yunlan jerks back to the waking world gasping and screaming and drowning in the anguish that comes with being lit on eternal consuming fire. The unmistakable rich copper taste of blood fills his mouth and he opens tear-filled bloodshot eyes that he was sure melted a long time ago with the rest of his physical body. He sees faces crowding around him in varying degrees of worry, but the pain blinds him from putting names to the faces. His throat feels raw, as if he'd been screaming for centuries and realizes on the next breath that he's been screaming a name. Shen Wei's name. Notes: drama-verse but a hopeful one TYL im here for the whole the last episode didn’t happen bc we can use the plot that the drama threw away lol
Title: Aftermath Summary: The fallout after the dust has settled. Notes: a look on what happened after the 4th extra in the novel; s o f t
Title: The world that we'll invent Summary: Shen Wei's self-control continues to be tested. Notes: [Nothing in Shen Wei's long existence has prepared him for the problem that is Zhao Yunlan.] >> honestly this is the summary of weilan in general
Title: Quiet Heart, Hollow Body Summary: It has been ten thousand years since Shen Wei met Kunlun, but he could never forget the one who first saw beyond the mask of the Black Cloaked Envoy to the person beneath. Notes: im novel bias for so many reasons but this was absolutely amazing as a drama setting bc it /is/ closer to the novel setting bc shen wei was actually awake those 10,000 years so that desperation and intensity of novel!sw is closer here - really great read

Do you have plan to write Shen wei x Yun Lun fic??? Ps. I just got chance to watch guardian and now i’m sooo gone
I can’t say that I have definite plans for it right now due to the fact that I haven’t managed to return all the Hartwin prompts and finish the WIPs on ao3.
But I’m so deep in reading the WeiLan yansheng fics as well as ZhuBai (rpf, I know I know) that I will readily provide you with hundreds of them if you can read Mandarin or like me, have the willpower of someone trying to understand 90% of the fics through translation apps. (Also? The amount of omegaverse WeiLan fics I’ve read? Astounding.)
*WeiLan yansheng/澜巍衍生: this became a huge thing after Priest posted an extra story after the ending of Guardian, the outcry of fans was a huge motivation for her to give drama!WeiLan a better ending that they deserve, and involves basically matching previous roles of Yilong and Bai Yu in fics.
An example of this could be Luo Fusheng (ZYL) and Luo Fei (BY) because their dramas take place in appropriately the same era in China and lemme tell ya, the explosive dynamic between a baby-faced mob boss who can eliminate literally hundreds of opponents with one knife? machete? (idk since I didn’t watch that drama) and a stone-faced-but-really-is-a-soft-hearted-darling detective is not something you wanna miss out on.
You have the therapist/police officer job AU, the arranged marriage AU (QiHeng/BoLi), the rich son of an aristocrat and demon hunter AU (Hua WuXie/Pei Wende) (click on link to watch the fmv), and so many more.
Most of the fics I found are on lofter (it’s a heaven for weilan and zhubai fics) and every day you get to read thousands of new fics/chapters with high-quality writing and really fun/creative characterisation.
I have so much more to gush about but that would make this an essay and you won’t be able to read all of it so let’s end it here. But feel free to come and talk to me about what you like about Guardian (both novel and tv drama) and the cast because I’m always 100% emotionally invested in it lol.

guys, i did the thing i said i really didn't want to do, and went back and watched dreamlike life from ep31 onwards to the end (i.........skipped through a lot of it, honestly) and here are my thoughts:
the show is....................terrible
like. not comparatively terrible, or anything. just. outright terrible. 什么是plot 什么是character development 什么是logical storytelling WHO KNOWS??? NOT THIS SHOW
that being said.............i did enjoy some of it
SHENG-GE IS A SOFT GANGSTER I LOVE IT
holy shit he’s so soft and so in love???? it was beautiful to watch
they got together and instead of being all “i’ve gotta stake my claim so everyone knows you’re taken” he was all “stand further away from me alksfsjdkfh what if someone sees WHAT WOULD THAT DO TO YOUR REPUTATION TO BE SEEN WITH SOMEONE LIKE ME PLEASE” jesus fucking christ
tianying had to move out at some point and he was pining for her as she walked away but he kept smiling through it THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AS WELL
ep31 was low-key mirroring guardian (the kneeling??? the “worth it”????) and i was HERE FOR IT especially when he tried to pretend that he wasn't just on his knees begging xxc for help and was all "hahahaha look how clumsy i am i spilled your pills so here i am picking it up NOTHING TO SEE HERE"
holy shit luo fusheng is so fucking pretty jesus christ
tianying invited him to go meet her dad formally and he looked SO HAPPY but still ended up turning the opportunity down because he didn’t want his presence to upset her dad alskfhsdfdjk
“you told me not to cut in anyone’s line so i didn’t and waited for my turn patiently” slkfhsgkjdghfdg what in the fuck is this softness
“that thing we said last time.........that doesn’t count right? i mean...the thing about the......breakup?? THAT DOESN’T COUNT RIGHT?” what an awkward soft bean
fight scenes???? bruised and bloodied luo fusheng????? rip me??????
but also soft smiles??????????? so many soft smiles i want to die
alright alright alright i’m gonna stop here or i’ll tempt myself into watching eps 7-30 and it’s honestly too trash of a show for me to even consider that EVEN IF LUO FUSHENG IS SUPER SOFT I WILL NOT BE SWAYED I WILL NOT

Ohh ok i see! Best of luck with the translation project!!! And there's a show for it as well? I've seen a few posts with some of the characters but i didn't know it was in the 1930s. Who's your favorite character?
[In reference to this post.]
No worries, nonny! And thank you! I'm very excited about it. ^_^ (It's also directly the reason why I decided to actually buckle down and start learning Mandarin for real, so that's been a fun transition too. ;D)
And yes, there is a show for it! It's set mostly in the 1930s (...give or take quite a few anachronisms) with a framing device in the first and last episode that sets up the plot as one person telling another the story of her grandmother's adventures in Dongjiang (Shanghai in the novel) at that time. The grandmother is then the female lead of the rest of the plot. So far the novel seems to be setting up that plot framing pretty much the same way, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that works out!
If you're interested in the show, you can find it on Viki and on YouTube. Possibly also on Youko? And here is a nifty little post I wrote up about it a while back that tells you a bit more of what you're getting yourself into if you watch it -- fair warning, it is not for everyone and don't let the happy romcom vibes (or billing) of the first 10 episodes trick you into thinking it's lighthearted and fun. It is... really really not. XD
As for a favorite character, I'd have to say Luo Fusheng, hands down. He's practically tailor-made to suit all my favorite character quirks. He's a fearsome, rough-and-tumble, feral gangster of a man... on the outside. On the inside, he's soft and squishy and just wants a home where someone will have a light on for him and care whether or not he returns. He tries so hard to take care of everyone he loves and wants nothing more than to see them all happy, no matter what that costs him (and it costs him PLENTY). And through it all, he keeps up a brave face and a smile. And he has such AMAZING character growth through the series, too. He starts off running roughshod over people's boundaries and taking things that aren't his to take (like kisses :P) and by the end of the first arc he has improved SO MUCH. He is drinking his respect women juice and loving it. He gets so good at respecting people's agency and letting people make their own choices and he's just SUCH A GOOD and I love him A PERFECTLY NORMAL AMOUNT. TT^TT
*coughs* So. There you go. ^_^ My favorite. ^_^
