Happy WIP Wednesday!   Here’s the process gif of the painting for Priestnet’s Summer Solstice Event week 3 featuring Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan enjoying a moment in the sun.

I don’t know how I got drawn (ha!) into this, but I’m doing architectural watercolors again.  I used reference photos from Granting You a Dreamlike Life (another C Drama staring Zhu Yilong) because this scene was just so pretty, and I could add Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan on the bench to it relatively easily.  Also, why shouldn’t they have flowers with their sunlight?

Watercolor and gouache on 5x7″ watercolor paper.  Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei are about 3cm tall sitting down.  For anyone keeping track of my watercolor landscape series, this makes them my second largest figures, just slightly smaller than Lan Wangji kneeling for punishment at Cloud Recesses.

So... I am trying, with all my might, NOT to turn into a Zhu Yilong blog over here, but THERE ARE DAYS WHEN IT’S A BIT MORE DIFFICULT THAN OTHERS.

OK, so I realize that I have watched exactly 4 and half episodes of this show and that it devolves into a really nasty love triangle, which I generally hate, BUT... these early episodes are feeding me plot bunnies like you wouldn’t believe, and I hear there is some AMAZING Luo Fusheng whump heading my way in later episodes, so I’M GONNA HANG IN AS LONG AS I CAN.  XD

So, yeah.  I gather from AO3 and tumblr that I’m out here on this little rowboat all by myself, but I’m going to end up rowing my way straight into writing a fic at this rate.  At the VERY least, there will be more gifsets.  Because these two are ridiculous.  Like... five minutes after this point, Xu Xingcheng is feeding Luo Fusheng and groping him while they’re on a motorcycle, and Luo Fusheng says to him: “In the whole of Dongjiang, the only person who can order me around, I'm afraid, you are the only one.”  And then, that night, they share a bed and wake up in a tangle of cuddling arms and legs.  Just... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO NOT READ INTO THAT?

OK, I’m fine.  I’ll stop.  But... yeah.  I may end up writing that fic.  Just... diverge from canon in like... episode 3 or something.  IDEK.  It’ll probably end in a threesome.  Because I have thoughts in that direction, too.  XD

But yeah, this scene SERIOUSLY read to me like a teasing fight over who was going to get to be on top that night, and I cannot imagine any other interpretation that makes more sense.  XD

My favorite Derivative. OTP. And OTP for me means I'm unable to ship any of them with anyone else. Is one of the few ships I felt the urge to make art for and actually finished the art skjsjkskj.

As romantic ship, is a huge NO. I'm not interested in making everything abt romance/sex, and these two have a perfect friendship that I want to remain a friendship bc romantic relationship IS NOT the peak of things. As platonic ship totally YES, I love them.

I care abt them enough to write a m/f fic one day, if the inspiration they deserve hits. I don't think they should be together in all the works I read in Detective L fandom, but they'd for sure be a good couple and I love the bits I have abt them in Stars.

Finally getting to this bc in a writing mood (instead of an editing one that I need to be to finish up the Luo Fei fic I have a full draft of sjsksj oh well)! Such a fun prompt.

Fusheng didn't stop where he was searching through the drawers of the suspect's bedroom that he was helping Xiaoman search, mostly because he had no idea that Xiaoman was now frozen in the middle of the room at the off-hand comment about he and Luo Fei were basically living together despite his small apartment on the edge of the French Concession. He had just assumed that both Xiaoman and Ben already knew, so the comment of him making space for his belongings in Luo Fei's bedroom seemed casual enough. "You know," Xiaoman spoke up, finally bringing Fusheng's attention to see the shock on her face slowly shift into a smirk, "it's nice to confirm that you really are special to Luo Fei and now I have proof to be able to tease him for ever denying such a thing."

Behold! The start of Xiaoman and Fusheng's budding friendship! We love them both so much. As always with this challenge, I make my sentences as long as possible jsksj I've never been the brevity type of writer tho, so no surprise there. I just get so wrapped up in the story and wanna include all the little things that are important

Unwinding with a good book was Luo Fei’s way of celebrating the case being closed successfully. Everyone had their own little thing and he learned very early, back when he still was a police officer, that the celebratory drinks that many of his then colleagues enjoyed was not his thing. So instead the evenings after successful cases found him some variations of this. Although Fusheng was a more recent addition, Luo Fei could confidently say it was one of the best additions to his life that he ever had. --- Luo Fei and Fusheng enjoy a soft evening together after finishing up a case.
