umber and trix.
who were they?
what was the horrible thing that had happened to umber?
why didn't trix leave the neverseen after umber's death?
did they join the neverseen together or separately?
were they a bad match?
how did they meet?
were they banished? or did they leave of their own volition?
did they worry about each other?
was trix ever put off by umber?
did they know each other before they manifested? is that why trix thought highly of umber even after she manifested as a shade?
so many questions . . . would love to hear your thoughts . . . theories . . .
The glimpses we get at their life are truly fascinating--and they do answer some of these questions! According to my skims (and some help from the wiki), it's said Trix joined for Umber, so whether at the same time or after, they were connected--though he was less devoted than her, and he didn't leave because it's what he thinks she would want--but that doesn't mean he'd do anything for them. He still has limits. It's also possible he has nowhere else to go. And he knew her before whatever happened to her, apparently, though we don't know what it is.
I don't have a super strong basis for this, but for some reason I've always thought of whatever happened as something done to her--as in, an active choice someone made, compared to an impartial accident. And since she was a freakishly powerful shade in a world where that's not a good thing, that perhaps it had something to do with that; that maybe she was messing with shadowflux and someone (family, maybe?) saw that and were scared. And so they tried to force her ability/the shadows out of her. So she wouldn't be a shade anymore and would be something "normal" and "better" and stop messing with extreme darkness. But since an ability is an essential part of you that cannot be undone, all it did was hurt and break her. Especially since abilities are centered in the mind and the elven mind is so fragile. And so she's broken (not shattered sanity, this is metaphor) and it's made her spiteful and hateful at the world, making her more devoted, while Trix is more focused on her than the world.
And after what happened, perhaps they fled on their own, or the Neverseen sought them out somehow knowing what had happened and provided an escape into their organization. Perhaps Umber was too broken to do any of it and Trix desperately did it on their behalf, and as Umber healed she became super devoted, and all Trix could do was watch as she became something new and try and stay by her side even though he didn't really want to be there. In my head he's a pretty typical guy his one quirk that led him down this evil path was loving Umber more than everything else.
There is some limited basis for my thinking all this, but again! Not a lot! And I'm not super familiar with their characters, so some things may be contradictory. But this is how they exist in my head at the moment

*Dusts off blog*
Well, earlier I didn't think I'd ever write paragraphs for Hospital Playlist as I am already too jaded with the writer and director duo's evil game of stringing the viewers along, making them invested and feeling lulled with their feelings and ships only to break them later. But tonight... yeah I have this urge to write paragraphs of things because at episode 10, I think they have made things more clearer and obvious so I just want to document my finding, lol. So yeah, excuse me. *insert Marge Simpson embarrassed gif*
(Caution: these are purely my own observation and personal interpretations. They are of course prone to be wrong and may be interpreted so differently than others)
HOSPITAL PLAYLIST EPISODE 10 THEME: ONE SIDED LOVES AND CONFESSIONS.
Seeing how the episode panned out and the song they performed - Confession is Not Flashy, I think the theme of the episode is one sided loves and confessions.
Tumblr media
The writer director duo has regarded the song "Confession is Not Flashy" as a one-sided love song, based on their usage of the song in Reply 1994, episode 8 when the lights was out because of the rain and the kids were listening to the radio at the living room. The DJ narrated:
"Everyone, this is your chance. If by chance the person you love is next to you and if you are in a one-sided love, you should take advantage of this darkness and stare at the person you love as much as you can. I'll play a song for you. So until the electricity comes back, feel free to imagine being in a relationship with that person. Does it even matter? It's a one-sided love after all. That person doesn't know about it. Although you are in a one-sided love relationship, I hope you'll have a happy date during the 3 minutes of this song. This is a gift for those who are in a one-sided relationship and those who are lonely yet happy. It's 'Confession is Not Flashy' by Lee Seung Hwan. Everyone, end your one-sided love today. When the rain stops tomorrow, confess your love like said in the song. You never know, that person might be in love with you too."
I know this drama and Reply 1994 are totally different dramas, but I believe the writer-director's view on the songs they have chosen must still be the same. So when they use the same song in Hospital Playlist, their view on the song and what they represent should still be the same.
And true to their view about the song, this episode really is filled with one-sided loves and confessions (directly or indirectly) :
1. Chi Hong's one sided love towards Song Hwa, and his indirect confession despite her earlier rejection.
Tumblr media
He was enjoying the few minutes alone time with Song Hwa during the NS lunch date and a little bit displeased when Dr. Yong turned up on time, lol. From picking up the strand of hair on her shoulder (which made her uncomfortable), to saying "I'll stay right by your side, Professor".
2. Min Ha's one-sided love towards Seok Hyeong and her direct confession in his car.
Tumblr media
Girl got some gusto I like their scene so much I was squealing the whole time ajdjfjf. Her confession and what she said after to him was so cool, my heart fluttered!
3. Gyeo Wool's one-sided love towards Jeong Won and her indirect confession to him via her manager, Ik Jun. Haha.
Tumblr media
Ik Jun is campaigning for Jeong Won to accept Gyeo Wool so hard. Why? Not really because of Jeong Won, but because of Gyeo Wool. He adores her as a doctor and as a person that he wants her to be happy and he said this himself. He knows that the thing that would make Gyeo Wool happy is by being with the person she likes, Jeong Won. As how it is, Jeong Won denied Ik Jun's assumption that he likes Gyeo Wool. As Jeong Won was looking at Ik Jun bemusedly for his suggestion, he was probably recalling his conversation with Jun Wan about Ik Jun being a nutcase and how he and Ik Jun are not seeing eye to eye (the Korean phrase can also be translated as "not like minded") and he can't figure Ik Jun's mind at all sometimes.
Tumblr media
4. Ik Jun's one-sided love towards Song Hwa and his very smooth indirect confession.
Tumblr media
The reason why I see it as one-sided from was because Song Hwa doesn't seem to view him romantically. Most of the time, the affection from her towards him seems to be purely platonic. She always hit him, threatening to punch him and chided him for behaving like a kid. She even refused skinship(?) from his end by kicking him when his feet were touching hers under the cafeteria table. The scene where they look domesticated at his house really is heart fluttering, but when he (so smoothly) indirectly confessed to her, she was startled and looked away. She seems wanting to avoid it, turned her face away, pretending to look outside and then change the subject, asking him to continue eating. It doesn't look like a positive reaction after a confession. But I might be wrong though.
Tumblr media
5. Song Hwa's one-sided love(?) towards Jeong Won and her proposal as an indirect confession
(This one is actually so weak and I don't really think it's feasible but somehow there seems to be something, especially from Song Hwa's end that leaves some nagging feeling and suspicions)
Tumblr media
Song Hwa doesn't come off as someone who would freely intiate affectionate and excessive skinships with the boys. She would just give them either some friendly touches on their arms, friendly or consolation pats (to Seok Hyeong and Jun Wan) or hitting and kicking them (to Ik Jun). But with Jeong Won, she seems to take the opportunity(?) to lean on his shoulder when he put his arms around her when supporting her purchase decision. But, this could also mean that they're so close that there's no personal boundaries between them. However, both of them were not portrayed to have that kind of dynamic. Song Hwa is a lot closer to the other 3 boys than Jeong Won but she was never shown to initiate such an intimate skinship with them.
Tumblr media
After witnessing Jeong Won being so lovable with the little boy (look at how she looks at him) and enthusiastically talking about him and his brother, she proposed to him "Jeong Won, let's get married / marry me" (the right literal translation). He was startled, looking directly at her in surprise and then she backtracked(?), telling him to find a great woman and make babies as she imagined how cute it would be if he has his own children. Her random "proposal" might be brushed off as a joke, but Song Hwa doesn't seem like a person who would freely joke on such a matter either. If her proposal actually wasn't a joke as how she covered it to be, then it can be regarded as a type of confession too, no?
6. Jeong Won's non-romantic one-sided intention towards Song Hwa and his direct confession and proposal.
Tumblr media
Jeong Won has one-sidedly intended for Song Hwa to take over his Daddy Long Legs project since spring. He confessed to her than he is in fact Daddy Long Legs (Grandpa Long Legs to her, lol). He proposed for her to take it over, and she accepted it.
Now,
I know Hospital Playlist is not the same as the Reply series as there is no 'who is the husband game' mystery. And it actually has a more similar vibe to Prison Playbook imo. But at the same time, Hospital Playlist is made to share the same formula as the Reply series: apart from the heartwarming small daily stories, the writer and director duo also deliberately hide and witheld certain POVs, make them opague and opening them up for interpretations which leads to people starting guessing games. Then they filled the show with small details and nuances to corroborate the interpretations and fuelling the guessing game.
It is the same as the Reply series where people were made to guess whom did the female lead like, whom would the female lead choose and ends up with.
But this time, the persons whose POV were hidden and making people keep on guessing are not only the female lead Song Hwa, but also Jeong Won. Will he really quit and becomes a priest? Does he like Gyeo Wool or not? Will he end up with Gyeo Wool or not? As for Song Hwa, it's the question of whom does she like? Does she have feelings for Ik Jun or not? Will she change her mind and consider Chi Hong or not?
Those sort of mysteries are established because both Jeong Won's and Song Hwa's insights were deliberately witheld and made to be opague. We have insight to Ik Jun's, Jun Wan's and Seok Hyeong's feelings. But not the other two. This witholding of POVs and insights to their feelings made things open for different interpretations, sparked the guessing games and established ships, just like the Reply series.

I have to say that I love this PJO/Diana fix! I'm bummed that it didn't occur to me before to think of that crossover! But totally validated by your interpretation. I can't decide if I want more of Diana with Percy & co or at Camp Halfblood as she figures it all out or if I want more flabbergasted/ bemused Justice League interactions. Lol can you see Diana and Bruce watching PJ&co and all the Robins together?!
Uhhhh….this is not at all what you asked for but here, have some unsolicited Dick Grayson.
Read the rest of this AU here!
“So, I hear you’re a god.”
Diana pauses halfway through her chana masala, a bite hovering in the air on her fork.  The young man across from her has a crooked grin like he’s maybe had his jaw broken, but he’s handsome and dressed in plain but expensive clothes, and he looks completely serious.
“I…beg your pardon?”
“Right,” he says.  “Sorry.  I’m Dick Grayson.”
Diana sets down her fork and shakes the offered hand.  If there was going to be a place to have a conversation like this, she supposes this isn’t a bad one–a back corner of a noisy Indian restaurant, squirreled away in a New York alley.  Annabeth recommended it.  Diana is technically on chaperone duty.
“Diana.  Can I ask how you know who I am?”
“Mm,” he says, stealing a piece of naan and stuffing it into his mouth.  “Yeah.  I’m Bruce’s oldest kid.  We haven’t been talking a whole lot lately, but we’re working on it, you know what I’m saying?  And he’s been trying to figure you out, but I said–hey, B, maybe we should just ask.  You’ll have to forgive his paranoia.”
“I expect it comes with the job,” Diana says graciously.  “So you decided to walk up to a stranger and just…ask if I was a god?”
“I mean.  Yeah.  Pretty much.”  Dick looks expectantly at her.
“Can I ask why that was the conclusion you jumped to?”
“Sure,” Dick says, and he straightens up, like he’s giving a report.  “You’re clearly immortal, or at very least you age so slowly as to be next to immortal–we have photographic evidence and anecdotal reports dating back to World War I.  You demonstrated enough speed and strength during the Doomsday event to face down a monster that ultimately killed Superman.  You can either fly or generate enough power on a jump to simulate the effect.  You–”
“That’s enough,” Diana says coolly.  “May I ask why you chose this moment to ask if I am a god?”
Dick grins at her and links his hands together, resting his chin on his fingers.  “Because I’ve been following you for three hours.”
Diana keeps a scrupulously straight face at that and does not demand to know how he can see through the Mist.  Perhaps Bruce has been teaching his students (sons?) this skill, as he seems almost as clear-sighted as any halfblood.  “So?”
“Well, I know there’s some kind of base an hour or two out of the city, and I picked you up there, and now you’re here and you’re alone, so it seemed like as good a moment of any,” Dick says.  “You’ve got a weird number of kids out there by the way–and listen, when one of Bruce’s kids is saying you’ve got a weird number of kids, that’s a bad sign.  Bruce thinks you’re training some kind of child army that you pulled out of your ass during the battle with Steppen-whatever.”
Ah.  Well.  That explains a few things, including the way that Bruce has been avoiding her of late.
“And what do you think, Dick Grayson?”
Dick smiles.  “I think that sometimes kids need training, and that doesn’t make them a child army.”  His smile fades.  “They’re well-trained kids, from what Bruce said.  You should be proud of them.”
“I am,” Diana says gravely, looking over Dick’s shoulder to the door as it swings open.  She raises a few fingers and Percy wanders over, his hands in his pockets and a forbidding look on his face.  Percy, Diana has learned over her months working at the camp–almost a year now–is generally speaking far friendlier than his resting expression would suggest.  Apparently, he takes after his father, and more than one person has made a joke in her hearing about the Sea God Scowl.
This is not such a moment, though, because when he comes to a stop beside the table, Percy is spinning a cheap pen between his fingers and gives Dick a suspicious once-over.
“Who are you?” he asks bluntly.
“Dick Grayson,” Diana cuts in.  “He’s come to ask if I’m a god, and if I’ve been hiding a child army in upstate New York.”
Percy’s frown deepens into a glare and he taps his pen a couple times against the table’s edge.  “She didn’t force us to come fight,” he says, and Dick raises his hands in surrender.
“I never said she did, okay?  I’m just here because Bruce wants answers, preferably sooner than later.”
Percy unsheathes Riptide and sets it down on the table, a glowing bronze blade that doesn’t draw so much as a glance from anyone else in the restaurant, and takes a seat beside Diana.
“Here,” Diana says, offering some of her naan, and Percy takes it while Dick gapes shamelessly at Riptide.
“Hey,” Percy says curiously, the suspicion fading from his face.  “You can see my sword.”
“Uh, yeah,” Dick says, like Percy’s being a fool.  “It’s right there.  How’d you manage to disguise it as a pen?”
“Magic,” Percy says dismissively, studying Dick.  “How are you doing that?”
“Bruce isn’t bothered by the Mist,” Diana volunteers.  “But he’s not a halfblood.  Maybe he can teach others how to ignore the Mist.”
Dick rolls with the change of subject with admirable grace, reaching out to poke Riptide with a finger.  “I’ve always seen better than Bruce.  When I was a kid, I just figured I had a vivid imagination, and then when I was working with Bruce usually it was because of one of the Rogues.  Harley has some weird ass dogs.”
Diana reaches out across the table and catches Dick’s chin in a movement like lightning, and studies his eyes–bright and blue and…clear, in a way that she knows well.  Steve Trevor saw clearly, too, unmuddled by the Mist, as does Bruce, but Dick’s eyes have the unmarred clarity that can only be inborn.
“Who are your parents?” Percy asks.
“Mary and John Grayson,” Dick says, allowing Diana to manhandle him with a patient look on his face.  “I take after my mother.”
“You might,” Diana allows, letting him go.  “But I expect your father was someone else entirely.”
#diana at camp halfblood au#wonder woman#batman#dick grayson#percy jackson#starlight writes stuff#IT JUST GOT AWAY FROM ME#this was supposed to be a brief chat with dick followed by a scene cut to a chat with bruce#instead i guess dick grayson is a halfblood in this au#i think he's the son of hermes#he never made it to camp because (duh) he became robin before he became a major target#and then after that he could pretty much Handle His Shit#also no harley is not a hades kid the dogs just Like Her#so anyway diana sits dick down and explains everything to him and then they go have a talk with bruce#and percy yells at him for implying that diana is training child soldiers#also i have not seen justice league yet so i tried to mostly skip around anything that pertained to plot there#if the final battle isn't with stepford whatsisface then i...guess i'll edit that later?#also obviously this takes place AFTER the one about the kids showing up and startling the jl#i feel like the plot should be pretty clear but also i have not been writing these in chronological order#not even slightly#so yeah that's what i've got to say on the matter#why is diana in the city? probably because the kids talked her into it and she bought them all ice cream and set them loose#diana has pretty good faith in their ability to handle themselves at this point#and also i am considering that diana hears prayers in this au and therefore could be summoned in a pinch#anyway here's wonderwall#idiot teenagers with a queue#willayork#asked and answered

Conversation
Discussing American politics with an American politics & history connoisseur, pt. 2
I talked to my good friend ‘Twenty-One’, a Californian Paleocon who’s read lots about US history and politics, and asked for his take on Trump’s presidency. Here it is.
[2017-02-04 06.55.17] Twenty-One: My take is that I'm glad Clinton isn't in the White House. Otherwise, my primary note is surprisingly, he kept his word on ending the TPP, and his Supreme Court nomination was completely regular
[2017-02-04 06.55.52] Twenty-One: I find his mannerisms annoying and the tweeting strange, but most of the clickbait articles about his administration have little of substance when I read them
[2017-02-04 06.56.17] Twenty-One: I am still waiting to see if he will indeed make the GOP more friendly to LGBT, that's a major concern of mine
[2017-02-04 06.57.26] Twenty-One: As for the attempts to renegotiate NAFTA, I agree with the spirit but I do not know how practical it is
[2017-02-04 06.59.35] Twenty-One: One thing I have noted is that this election officially confirms my suspicion that your average center-of-left American is just as stupid and reactionary as your average center-of-right
[2017-02-04 07.00.07] Twenty-One: Much as the right-wing overreacted and vilified Obama over literally anything, I am seeing the same for Trump, even over mundane administrative details
[2017-02-04 07.00.12] Twenty-One: With the primary cause being misleading headlines
[2017-02-04 07.00.47] Twenty-One: Also, a fun piece of trivia is that I'm doing a report on the (now defunct) TPP for my International Business class, so my expertise is being applied to it
[2017-02-04 07.07.01] Twenty-One: Anyway, I am still as skeptical as pre-election, but it's still so incredibly early into the presidency, anyone making analyses right now is grasping at straws
[2017-02-04 08.24.17] An Cat Dubh: What’s wrong with the TPP?
Also, isn’t the judge he picked openly opposed to Roe v. Wade and equal marriage?
[2017-02-04 08.29.16] An Cat Dubh: What about the travel ban he established?
[2017-02-04 08.30.18] An Cat Dubh: And, unbelievably, he’s actually trying to build the fucking wall
[2017-02-04 09.16.17] Twenty-One: The TPP is an extremely long and complex trade agreement, but a key part I disliked was that it gave corporations greater legal power in suing nations
[2017-02-04 09.16.48] Twenty-One: The judge he picked has written extensively against activist judicial styles, to overturn Roe v Wade would be judicial activism
[2017-02-04 09.16.59] Twenty-One: the entire point of being a good judge is that you will make rulings your personal morals do not agree with
[2017-02-04 09.17.41] Twenty-One: The travel ban does not bother me in the slightest, the list of nations is even a bit lazy in that they carved it from a list created by the Obama admin of unstable nations
[2017-02-04 09.18.15] Twenty-One: It's not a Muslim ban, as the headlines call it, because it only applies to the 7 nations in question, and it's also only binding for 90 days, as I recall
[2017-02-04 09.18.38] Twenty-One: And technically we have had border fencing along the US-Mexico border for nearly eleven years
[2017-02-04 09.19.06] Twenty-One: It's just not continuous due to the sheer expanse of land we're talking about
[2017-02-04 09.19.11] An Cat Dubh: True, but that’s 3 months during which people are stuck in a country where they’re likely to be killed
[2017-02-04 09.19.25] Twenty-One: Just because they can't go to the US, does not mean they are bound in their home nations
[2017-02-04 09.20.03] Twenty-One: Not only that, but I do not consider it the US' (or the West's, for that matter) responsibility to house all people who desire it
[2017-02-04 09.20.30] An Cat Dubh: But those people have been vetted.
[2017-02-04 09.20.34] Twenty-One: People are dying and suffering by quite large numbers in the Middle East and much of Southeastern Asia
[2017-02-04 09.21.09] Twenty-One: That doesn't mean we stop acting as a sovereign nation first and a philanthropist second
[2017-02-04 09.22.03] Twenty-One: Again, it's a temporary stay, and personally I am skeptical about the degree of vetting that can occur for people from nations with terrible infrastructure and record keeping.
[2017-02-04 09.22.26] Twenty-One: And again, they can migrate without necessarily coming to the USA.
[2017-02-04 09.22.57] Twenty-One: Fleeing instability and war as a refugee does not mean that every locale will welcome you, but there are so many that remaining in those nations is completely unnecessary.
[2017-02-04 09.23.09] An Cat Dubh: They’ve been vetted by the US, that’s where they got their visa to, isn’t it?
[2017-02-04 09.24.12] Twenty-One: I'm sure that their cases vary in their circumstances, some are no doubt vetted significantly
[2017-02-04 09.25.44] Twenty-One: Most of the particularly unsavory incidences I read about, were actually mistakes on the part of airports in enforcing the law on people who should not have flagged it
[2017-02-04 09.26.38] An Cat Dubh: Because it was done hastily and sloppily
[2017-02-04 09.26.54] Twenty-One: Indeed it was
[2017-02-04 09.28.50] Twenty-One: I would certainly argue that it should have been done with more refinement and advanced planning
[2017-02-04 09.29.01] Twenty-One: But that's not a condemnation of the concept itself
[2017-02-04 09.30.20] An Cat Dubh: Didn’t he ban specifically 7 countries that had never had any terrorists come from them to the US?
[2017-02-04 09.30.41] Twenty-One: Yes, but that's a completely arbitrary metric
[2017-02-04 09.30.54] An Cat Dubh: Huh?
[2017-02-04 09.30.57] Twenty-One: Nations not historically having terrorists, does not mean they are not risky populations in their current climate
[2017-02-04 09.31.09] Twenty-One: Not to mention, terrorism is not the only concern with people from those nations
[2017-02-04 09.31.25] Twenty-One: They can live without blowing things up and still be Islamic fundamentalists
[2017-02-04 09.32.07] An Cat Dubh: That’s what Trump talks about though. The ‘bad dudes’ who can commit the next 9/11 or Boston bombing or San Bernardino shooting
[2017-02-04 09.34.45] Twenty-One: Sure, but based on his style that's because it's low-hanging fruit to appeal to people's fears, I'd say.
[2017-02-04 09.35.22] An Cat Dubh: So what reasoning is there behind the ban?
[2017-02-04 09.43.46] An Cat Dubh: (Sorry, internet is wonky)
[2017-02-04 09.44.54] Twenty-One: Like I said, I suspect it's both suspicion of risk of terrorism, because the nations' situation in the past was quite different from what it is now, and apprehension about accepting refugees who won't assimilate into American society well
[2017-02-04 09.46.43] An Cat Dubh: Can you give me an example of a threatening de-stabilization? I suspect I might be out of touch with the news in those areas
[2017-02-04 09.48.23] Twenty-One: Iraq is currently embroiled with ISIS
[2017-02-04 09.48.42] Twenty-One: Syria is still a broken shithole destroyed by civil war
[2017-02-04 09.49.07] Twenty-One: Libya has not really recovered and become a functional nation post-Libyan conflict from several years ago
[2017-02-04 09.49.46] Twenty-One: Somalia has their own ISIS-esque group that they're contending with (I don't recall if it's a splinter faction or just similar)
[2017-02-04 09.49.56] Twenty-One: I admittedly don't know about Sudan
[2017-02-04 09.50.00] An Cat Dubh: The people blocked from Iraq are interpreters and collaborators
[2017-02-04 09.50.08] Twenty-One: and I believe Yemen is also experiencing civil war
[2017-02-04 09.51.04] An Cat Dubh: Did Trump order to ban people who’ve already been vetted or was that a mistake on the airports’ part or whatever?
[2017-02-04 09.51.53] Twenty-One: I don't know.
[2017-02-04 09.54.24] An Cat Dubh: Hrm.
About the judge. you said he was against judicial activism, but wasn’t Roe v. Wade and marriage equality just that? Wouldn’t he repeal those because of his stance?
[2017-02-04 09.54.38] Twenty-One: That's not what being against judicial activism means.
[2017-02-04 09.55.03] Twenty-One: Common law is based on precedent, and Roe v. Wade and gay marriage are the current precedent and law of the land.
[2017-02-04 09.55.17] Twenty-One: It would be activist to overturn them.
[2017-02-04 09.55.29] An Cat Dubh: OK.
[2017-02-04 09.56.02] Twenty-One: The best way to think of it is that judicial activism is not just code for "progressive judges"
[2017-02-04 09.56.17] Twenty-One: it refers to all rulings that are agenda-setting, whether they're left- or right-leaning, rather than following the law
[2017-02-04 09.58.06] An Cat Dubh: I get that. What I asked was about him determining it’s OK to commit it for the sake of undoing a previous act of judicial activism
[2017-02-04 09.58.29] Twenty-One: Generally no.
[2017-02-04 09.58.34] Twenty-One: Even if it was activism before
[2017-02-04 09.58.37] Twenty-One: It is still the precedent now.
[2017-02-04 09.58.46] An Cat Dubh: I see
[2017-02-04 09.58.51] Twenty-One: hence why being a judge means making rulings you may not personally agree with
[2017-02-04 09.59.22] Twenty-One: Your job (according to this philosophy) is to rule based on the existing common law cases, not to rule how you think it should be
[2017-02-04 09.59.39] Twenty-One: And even if it was activism, Roe v. Wade is now a US common law precedent.
[2017-02-04 09.59.43] Twenty-One: As is gay marriage.
[2017-02-04 09.59.49] An Cat Dubh: OK.
[2017-02-04 10.00.15] An Cat Dubh: What about the whole ‘move the embassy to Jerusalem’ thing?
[2017-02-04 10.01.16] Twenty-One: Seems callous, but only time will tell if it's actually worth paying attention to.
[2017-02-04 10.01.42] An Cat Dubh: Why the fuck is he on about it
[2017-02-04 10.02.03] Twenty-One: Main thing that comes to mind is appealing to the pro-Israel chunk of the GOP
[2017-02-04 10.02.41] An Cat Dubh: That’s not pro-Israel. That dumb fuck is gonna drag this country into a huge, senseless war
[2017-02-04 10.02.52] Twenty-One: I didn't say it was pro-Israel
[2017-02-04 10.02.59] Twenty-One: Being technical, it's pro-GOP-that-is-pro-Israel
[2017-02-04 10.03.00] An Cat Dubh: Or, in his care, yuge
[2017-02-04 10.03.02] Twenty-One: Do you see the difference?
[2017-02-04 10.03.21] Twenty-One: It's about Israel, but not really.
[2017-02-04 10.03.57] Twenty-One: It's really about trying to get the GOP to accept him; remember, Trump is not a conservative and many traditional Republicans dislike or outright hate him
[2017-02-04 10.04.16] An Cat Dubh: So he’s basically making cheap political gain on our backs.
[2017-02-04 10.06.43] Twenty-One: That's my personal opinion.
[2017-02-04 10.07.10] An Cat Dubh: What’s he gonna do when war does happen here?
[2017-02-04 10.07.17] Twenty-One: Who can say?
[2017-02-04 10.07.55] Twenty-One: Due to his seeming actual intention of trying to keep a fair amount of his campaign messages to his base, which included not being a warhawk compared to Hillary
[2017-02-04 10.08.05] Twenty-One: (with some commenters going so far as to call Trump pseudo-isolationist)
[2017-02-04 10.08.19] An Cat Dubh: Pseudo?
[2017-02-04 10.08.35] Twenty-One: True isolationism cannot exist in the way it did in the early 20th century.
[2017-02-04 10.08.44] Twenty-One: Modern telecommunications and trade make it impossible.
[2017-02-04 10.08.56] An Cat Dubh: I see
[2017-02-04 10.09.40] An Cat Dubh: What about his racist dog whistles?
[2017-02-04 10.10.32] Twenty-One: Such as?
[2017-02-04 10.10.52] An Cat Dubh: ‘America first’ is an obvious example
[2017-02-04 10.10.55] Twenty-One: No, it isn't.
[2017-02-04 10.11.14] Twenty-One: America first is absolutely not racist dog whistling and I am admittedly a bit incensed at the suggestion.
[2017-02-04 10.12.00] Twenty-One: It is an appeal to a somewhat common sentiment in the United States that being the world's sole superpower has resulted in our Federal Government paying more attention to other nations and their peoples over Americans
[2017-02-04 10.12.54] Twenty-One: That particular phrasing is one I agree with, I think our government's focus should be more internal, both to be more attentive to domestic problems and to limit our global interference with the nations of others
[2017-02-04 10.13.45] An Cat Dubh: http.//edition.cnn.com/2016/04/27/opinions/trump-america-first-ugly-echoes-dunn/
[2017-02-04 10.14.47] Twenty-One: That's an opinion.
[2017-02-04 10.15.18] Twenty-One: America First is not at all an unusual combination of words.
[2017-02-04 10.16.01] Twenty-One: If I so wished, I could probably make most political campaign slogans sound quite devious or find similar or even the same slogan being used by unsavory types in the past.
[2017-02-04 10.16.03] An Cat Dubh: But its use as a political slogan is very particular
[2017-02-04 10.16.33] An Cat Dubh: Damn that took forever to send
[2017-02-04 10.16.52] An Cat Dubh: Can you give an example?
[2017-02-04 10.17.02] Twenty-One: An example I saw someone else make was
[2017-02-04 10.18.03] Twenty-One: Give me a second
[2017-02-04 10.19.59] Twenty-One: Gerald Ford's campaign slogan in 1976 was
[2017-02-04 10.20.09] Twenty-One: "He's making us proud again"
[2017-02-04 10.20.34] Twenty-One: Restoration of pride was a major theme that allowed the Nazis to take power in Germany following the Weimar Republic
[2017-02-04 10.21.00] Twenty-One: The fact is that slogans by their nature will draw from simple ideas
[2017-02-04 10.21.09] Twenty-One: And that people of very different backgrounds may use the same slogan components
[2017-02-04 10.21.35] Twenty-One: Especially since nothing forbids an organization from naming itself yadda yadda, other than copyright and trademark.
[2017-02-04 10.22.29] Twenty-One: I could make a brotherhood named "Lodge for Brotherhood, Education and Technology" and be a total fuckjob nut who believes in Anarchism
[2017-02-04 10.22.43] Twenty-One: That wouldn't make a politician talking about brotherhood, education and technology an anarchist
[2017-02-04 10.23.03] An Cat Dubh: I see
[2017-02-04 10.23.19] An Cat Dubh: Back to the TPP though
[2017-02-04 10.23.38] Twenty-One: I honestly will be better able to discuss it when I've done the research for my presentation
[2017-02-04 10.23.56] Twenty-One: The extra power granted to corporations alone was enough for me to dislike it
[2017-02-04 10.24.14] An Cat Dubh: Do you think whatever Trump wants to replace it with something that won’t give them that power?
[2017-02-04 10.24.14] Twenty-One: But in the coming weeks I'll learn entirely too much about it
[2017-02-04 10.24.32] Twenty-One: Trump isn't likely to try and suggest a replacement for that.
[2017-02-04 10.25.03] Twenty-One: The TPP, being a trade agreement that existed between a number of nations, is not something one can simply "replace," especially since Trump campaigned on and actually followed through in dismantling it
[2017-02-04 10.25.24] An Cat Dubh: So what’s he gonna do?
[2017-02-04 10.25.24] Twenty-One: National will toward agreements like that is always changing
[2017-02-04 10.25.32] Twenty-One: About what?
[2017-02-04 10.25.39] Twenty-One: The TPP wasn't like, a pressing thing that needed to happen
[2017-02-04 10.25.54] Twenty-One: It was a massive trade agreement, but it's not like its destruction leaves a problem unsolved
[2017-02-04 10.26.33] An Cat Dubh: So he’s just gonna pull out and leave nothing in its place?
[2017-02-04 10.26.51] Twenty-One: That's already what he did
[2017-02-04 10.26.55] Twenty-One: "Leave nothing?"
[2017-02-04 10.26.59] Twenty-One: There already was nothing.
[2017-02-04 10.27.02] Twenty-One: It was a proposal.
[2017-02-04 10.27.20] An Cat Dubh: Ah. I thought it was already in place
[2017-02-04 10.27.26] Twenty-One: No, it was a proposed trade agreement
[2017-02-04 10.27.37] Twenty-One: However, due to our marketplace and general economic significance
[2017-02-04 10.27.46] Twenty-One: our withdrawal is a near certain death for the agreement
[2017-02-04 10.28.01] An Cat Dubh: OK.
[2017-02-04 10.28.17] An Cat Dubh: Well, I’m somewhat calmer now.
[2017-02-04 10.28.21] An Cat Dubh: Thanks =)
