I have a couple of doubts. I know the history of mk from the ninth game, so I don't know much about the previous games and stories. I didn't know that they had a sister or what happened to their mother, could someone explain to me? 😭

Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) is the reboot that started the alternative timeline, in which Kuai Liang and Bi-Han were abducted as children and trained to be Lin Kuei assassins.

"An assassin of the Lin Kuei clan, Kuai Liang commands the power of ice and cold. Unlike other members of his clan, he and his older brother, Bi-Han, were abducted as children by the Lin Kuei and trained in the techniques of assassination throughout their lives. [...] (source: Sub-Zero’s MK9!BIO)

In this timeline, we don’t have much information about Bi-Han & Kuai Liang’s biological family besides this BIO and MK11’s intro dialogues (Noob vs Sub-Zero, Sub-Zero mirror matches) that mention their grandfather was a Sub-Zero before them.

Original timeline usually described Bi-Han and Kuai Liang’s origin as unknown however the Bi-Han-centric game Sub-Zero: Mythologies provided more detailed backstory:

Somewhere in the northern most parts of Asia, there exists a secret clan of assassins and thieves known as the Lin Kuei. This group has existed for centuries and thrives on the evil intention of the people who pay for their services. Its warriors are chosen at birth to be raised apart from the workings of day to day civilization and are stripped of their former lives. Only the clan knows their existence [...] Born in America, Sub-Zero was the oldest of three children, which included a brother and sister. Their mother wanted a normal life for her sons, who had already been chosen by the Lin Kuei to become warriors for the clan. She tried in vein to hide them from their father whose own life in America was only a cover for his true identity and purpose. Eventually they were found and their father returned with them to his homeland. Their mother and sister were never seen or heard from again. Sub-Zero learned of his ability as a young adult. It was passed on to him by his father, a fourth generation Lin Kuei warrior himself. The ability to harness the element of cold is one that takes years of practice. It's full potential realized only by those who've mastered it at the latest stages of life. Sub-Zero's skills have the ability to develop much faster than those of the other Lin Kuei. The source is not clear if Bi-Han & Kuai Liang's mother was a Lin Kuei herself or if she was a "normal" woman married to working under cover Lin Kuei assassin. We know only that she didn't want her sons to be used by the clan and tried save her kids. Sadly, her fate is not confirmed either, as the "never seen or heard again" may means Bi-Han's mother and the youngest sister were killed or (hopefully) they managed to run away and hide well enough to never beed found by Lin Kuei.

Please keep in mind I know this backstory from those two websites - I suspect this originally comes from Sub-Zero: Mythologies Prima Guide or something like, but sadly I do not own a copy to confirm - or deny - it. However, the mythologies.dragondata.com is listed on wikipedia as an official Sub-Zero: Mythologies website and its archived version you can check out for yourself here.

I personally, until proven wrong, assume this is an official original Bi-Han & Kuai Liang's backstory.

Terry's Birthday: Fandom, the Internet, and Citations

Or, a too long, too in depth essay on a fictional character's birthday

If you aren't thinking I'm a total nerd by the time you're done reading this than you didn't really read this. But, let's start at the beginning. Recently I posted a timeline I made for "Batman Beyond" and in the time since I made that post there's been something I've seen pop up in tags which I'd never heard of before. A few people were saying that Terry's birthday is August 18th. I was really interested in the source of this claim because I had no recollection of ever seeing it anywhere before now. I looked it up on google (as you do) and found this date scattered around the internet. Case closed, right? But I quickly realized there was a consistent problem on every site I came across. None of them cited a source for Terry's alleged August 18th birthday.

Just look it up yourself and you'll find that the date is ubiquitous across the internet. Yet, as far as I can tell after all my research, it's also completely unconfirmed. I mean, I may have missed something, but if I have than someone else is going to have to point it out to me. I also made a post prior to this one asking people to cite a source for Terry's birthday and no one has so far. You can have a look at that post if you want to know what I consider a good source on this subject. In any case, if this date or any other had been confirmed in any piece of media or in an interview with any DC creator involved in Batman Beyond than I think I would have found a citation for that source somewhere by now.

Right now it kind of seems like August 18th is fanon that's been recycled into "canon". This seems to have happened through a process of source-less wikipedia edits being parroted across reddit threads, sites featuring profiles of comic heroes, other wikis, etc. The less popular June 27th birthday for Terry seems to have gone through the same process. As my research continued I came across some possible witness testimony of the first mentions of these birthdates:

a.) In this archived thread from the DCAU wiki, in quotations below, I've copied an excerpt of an exchange between two users that I feel is most relevant to this post (emphasis mine):

"So, I've noticed lately that a lot of different sites have been stating Terry's birthday to be August 18th with various years attached to the date. The earliest mention of which I could find is an edit to his wikipedia page in 2008 (which prior to the change stated his birthday was June 27th). I don't remember a mention of when he was born on the show or tie-in comics, and the third volume of comics didn't come out until 2010, so would anyone here know where these dates originate from? -- ReachingForRevolution (talk) 17:48, September 26, 2013 (UTC)"

"I've done some extensive timeline research, and I never came across a good source for those dates. All I saw was a wikipedia edit war with those two dates, but neither is correct AFAIK. b.) A similar claim was made in this thread. The relevant excerpt, written by the user "Yojimbo" on October 16, 2023, is in quotations below (emphasis mine):

As I've travelled down this rabbit hole, I've begun to suspect I won't be able to find exactly where it began, but this is as close as I've gotten. Allegedly, sometime around 2008, there was an edit war on Terry McGinnis' wikipedia page between at least two users over the birthdates of June 27th and August 18th. Now, how or why that edit war even started, I don't know. Why those dates, I also don't know. What I do know is that August 18th is the birthdate that gained the most popularity in the end and spread across the internet.

I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes with this post or call anyone out, really. If anything, this post exists because the subject was interesting to me and I've found the journey enjoyable. If you want to say Terry's birthday is June 27th or August 18th, then please do. Fandom is about fun, not perfectly sourced and cited dissertations on fictional teenagers' birthdays...unless, of course, that sort of thing is fun for you. I know I've loved every minute researching for and writing this...because I'm a massive nerd...but I certainly don't adhere to a strict reading of the timeline myself which is something I plan on covering in an upcoming addendum to my timeline.

In summary, my own research has produced no officially confirmed birthday for Terry McGinnis. This leads me to believe that August 18th and June 27th are fanon birthdates. It may be that I've just not found the citation for one or the other of these dates so I'm open to anyone who can provide me a good source. But really, none of this matters in the grand scheme of things, although it's interesting to see the way user edited/moderated wikis can sometimes bring less clarity rather than more. I'm sure this isn't the only example of that. Assuming I'm right and these birthdates are fanon, I wouldn't consider this a cautionary tale or anything so dramatic. Instead, I'd say this was a case study in the interaction between fandom collated information about fictional works as it exists across the internet and why the adage, "cite your sources", will never die...or something like that...

I think I've finally put my finger on something bothering me. For months, Israel's stated goal is to "eradicate" Hamas. As in kill everyone involved.

Not just the leaders, not just those with the most power. Everyone.

No arrests, no lawyers, no fair trials. Just kill anyone and everyone the Israeli government has decided is worthy of it.

Don't get me wrong, I think the "collateral damage" is a) disgusting and b) deliberate.

But is it not also horrendous that the Israeli government, with the support of most world powers, gets to act as judge, jury, and executioner here?

also also i forgot to put this but what are your thoughts on firefly? i think she's probably gonna be okay (please please please) because it would honestly suck if she were introduced and then immediately thrown to the side

long answer:

this is really tough because i really... don't know. there's a lot of ways this could play out.

like, for one, you're not supposed to be able to die in the dreamscape. ... right? but robin died. maybe her body was attacked shortly after she entered the dream pool thing? it would explain all the gashes on her

but also, the monster that attacked firefly? the way black swan keeps calling it just Death makes me a little unsure... an attack from THAT probably has more real world repercussions than like. getting whacked over the head with a heavy hammer. now, are the real world repercussions DEATH? i'm not sure. black swan and acheron sure do respond like firefly Died-died. and they both know a lot more about the dreamscape than most anyone else

other things to consider are firefly's entropy loss syndrome and the fact that she's a stowaway. i imagine being booted out of the dreamscape because you "died" has some jarring unknown effects. who knows how differently someone whose body is literally fading away respond? also, because she's a stowaway: where... is her body? how did she get into the dreamscape in the first place? can she get back in? lots of unanswered questions here. even if she didn't DIE due to all her unique circumstances she might not be 100% Okay

but ANOTHER thing is firefly will be a playable character. this doesn't guarantee that she's okay - like, *points at tingyun* this wouldn't be the first time a character with an ambiguous-but-probably-Not-Good fate is added to the gacha. but it gives me some hope, because we got a decent amount of time with tingyun before the phantylia reveal. and we were able to meet other characters she was connected to and learned more about her through them and so on. soooooo there is PROBABLY something else planned for firefly. in some way

one last thing: people are saying she's... sam? this kind of has me scratching my head a lot because ... ???? but in the penacony trailer sam is shown with the same weapon firefly's leaked file assets have. and her type appears to be fire

i think though that it's worth noting that the "sam" we had a boss fight with might not have been the REAL sam. while retracing firefly's memories, she talks to someone named "Mecha." who is probably an accomplice who turned on her? soooo maybe the "sam" we fought was this Mecha and there was just an assumption by stelle & co that it was sam. because like he never introduced himself lol

either way they're definitely connected so even if firefly herself never comes back we still have sam/possibly "mecha" wandering around and we'll get the chance to glean more info from him in the next update. probably.

but yeah in conclusion!!!!!! i don't know 🫶🏾 too hard to tell, too little info available, there's all kinds of foreshadowing in the dreampass stickers and readable texts strewn across the map but i haven't gone through everything and sometimes foreshadowing is only clear in hindsight so that might not help, i am waiting (im)patiently for the next story update

questions about seven and raffi that i need this episode to acknowledge and/or answer include ‘are they together?’ and ‘literally why are they acting like they never met let alone got engaged in 21st century france at the edge of a crumbling chateau’ and ‘it’s been 2 whole episodes why haven’t they mentioned each other at all like is this a deep cover kind of thing or did y’all (writers etc) give up on their relationship because y’all were never legitimately invested in the first place🧐’ and ‘seriously what is going on with these two there hasn’t been one meaningful or offhanded mention about their relationship status and is the silence on the issue meant to be an answer because if so i hate it’ and ‘do y’all (writers etc) know that stable relationships are actually not boring or illegal like you can just write that and no one will arrest you it’s fine’ and ‘did seven get to see raffi in her sexy spy get up before they parted ways because i think she would love it as much as or even possibly more than me (known raffi enjoyer)’ and and and—

Edit: I was wrong. He's listed with the other nobles in the bingo card. And his uniform seems to be that of Lucifer's devils. Going off of context, he might be the handsome devil who saves us, while the angel could the one attacking us, since they're there, reveled alongside the plot. Still, there's a not 0 chance of a plot twist.

Do I have proof? No. Do I have doubts? Also no. I'm 100% sure that's Belphegor, and a 98% sure that he's a treasonous bitch who sided with the angels

let’s say it’s taylor swift because she’s slay and everyone’s buying tickets rn :D also skk is so taylor swift coded oh my god. ok but, even though dazai dislikes staying in crowded places for too long because it drains his energy, he follows along with chuuya when they travel to tokyo to attend the concert. chuuya had opened up at least 5 devices when the tickets were being released, and he had managed to get hold of two tickets for them. he barely bat an eye at the price, easily keying in the credit card details on the back of his black card as dazai watched from behind, both concerned and happy for him.

they manage to get seats right in front of the stage, and surrounding them is screaming crowds of fans who almost blast dazai’s ear drums off. he turns to look at chuuya, who has the biggest smile on his face as he stares straight ahead towards the stage, eagerly waiting for the performance. dazai chuckles to himself; if seeing the chibi this happy meant having to attend concerts like these, dazai would gladly go to one with chuuya every single day for the rest of his life.

they have a great time at the concert, singing along to the songs and cheering with the rest of the audience at the end of each one. the crowd around them moves along with the beat, and the many overlapping voices almost drown out the singer’s own, but dazai manages to single out the beautiful voice belonging to his partner, and his cheeks flush when chuuya turns to him. “my thoughts will echo your name, until i see you again !” he mouths the lyrics over the loud music, and dazai grins back.

after the concert, the two of them head back to their apartment together in silence, throats sore from shouting to the music. chuuya has one hand on the steering wheel, the other linked with dazai’s, and he quietly hums to one of the songs from earlier. dazai’s lips purse, before mouthing back his reply to chuuya.
