In my head, you’re a Magnus Archives blog. I mean, I know you obviously listen to other things, but In my mind it’s things like Welcome to Nightvale, Malevolent, Hello from the Hallowoods, The Sheridan Tapes, things like that, horror and supernatural.

So I had to do a double-take when I saw a Dungeons and Daddies post from you, I really didn’t know you listened to it. Then I see you reblog a Fawx and Stallion post, and now I’m just wondering how many podcasts you’ve listened to that I’ve also listened to.

Hahaha yes this blog has been mainly for tma stuff for years now, I still feel like I'm new to the fandom but honestly I've been here through a lot of it since the beginning of season 5

Buuuuut in the past few months I've stopped going into the tma tag regularly and been feeling a little detached from it, at least as opposed to before. My listen to tmagp has been way less interactive and I hardly reblog content anymore (which is something I like doing but because of various bad experiences on the internet recently I have yet to recover from I feel safer posting my own original posts rather than reblogging)

And that freed up a space in my mind to realize I've actually been listening to a lot of podcasts besides tma and it's honestly a shame not to talk about them more with others

I do listen to a lot of horror fantasy supernatural and science fiction podcasts! I also love a lot of dnd and ttrpg podcasts, I also love everything dropout and wish I could get into critical role but it's so big I don't think I'll manage it

dave and buck are so special to me and here’s why.

in my now quite elaborate and maybe far removed perception of ttcc that is a melting pot of headcanons, i see dave and buck in a very specific light.

they are both here to waste company time. no way either of them are in agreement with the toon war. the way i think of it goes as follows: buck’s fight, for example, is undeniably just that, a fight. he is trying to beat you. he can’t exactly stand between toons and goons and go “hey fellath why don’t we talk it out?” lol. the fight is inevitable, because if he doesn’t do his job he’d get demoted or fired, which would take away any shred of power he had to begin with and render him effectively useless in doing anything about the war.

so what does he do instead? well, i can’t name another boss who has a chance of dropping items on their own team, much less raining jellybeans on the enemy. maybe that’s because my overall knowledge of ttcc is embarrassingly sparse, but i feel the need to point that out.

buck doesn't take anything seriously. he goofs around, turns the battle into a joke. i can’t tell you how much i laughed in my first fight with him, and that’s before i formed any solid ideas about him. he stands out to me because of that. i think he wants to give toons something to smile about, if they’ve gotta fight. if you can’t join ‘em, be a good sport, right?

and dave. oh man, dave! his beginning cutscene is LITERALLY a bunch of goons offering to punch your daylights out in order to get the fight over with, and what does he do? nah, he offers you onstage, gives you a fair fight. makes it into a show. dave isn’t taking this seriously either. he’s a tough hard hitter, but he didn’t instantly wipe you out for a reason. hell, he even fakes his death in the middle of the battle just for shits and giggles. he’s trying to dazzle, to give everyone a good story.

shall i recount the ending cutscene when you beat dave? it actually blows my mind again every time i see it. he offers congratulations in his defeat, respects a good brawl. he even gives you the rose in what may be the single hottest display of robot whimsy on this planet.

buck and dave both know how uncertain times are. they both understand the role they play in this war, and although they’re just cogs in the machine, they know how to feign some rustiness for the toon’s sake.

now as if all that weren’t enough, what can i possibly say about high roller that i haven’t already said a million times. high roller’s high roller, the game show that clowns on itself, the host that dishes out dizzying fun at the drop of a hat! like, is hr trying to get fired??

nothing about the show says ‘cog etiquette’. the whole event screams rebellion, like some sort of impossible, law-defying piano man. what do toons even stand to accomplish by showing up other than having a good time? the theatre is literally full of all kinds of managers and they do nothing. it was never about defeating anyone, it’s about finding a bit of joy in the worst of times. sure, hr loves to win, but she doesn’t particularly like to see others lose.

once you defeat hr, just like that, show’s over. the audience comprised entirely of enemies stays seated, and the toons skedaddle. i don’t know how one could possibly spin this into something truly competitive.

it fascinates me endlessly and i always have more to say about it but i have other things to do today so i have to tear away from the keyboard lawl.

sorry to be negative but just looking back on things now I realize... I didn't really enjoy Sonic Prime season 2 that much.

like - don't get me wrong - Sonic Prime Shadow is the best Shadow we've had in ages. I'm not complaining about Shadow - I think s2e1 is literally the best episode in the series because of his and Sonic's dynamic.

But my issues with the season stem from, and maybe I shouldn't be complaining because Sonic is for kids - but jeeze for me there were just too many action scenes - and they were so long and drawn out, and in between all that the Eggmans got far too much screen time. Generational humour stopped being funny in- scratch that, it was never funny. All of them come off as annoying, I don't enjoy any of them - and I consider myself fucking easy to please lmao

The fight scenes are animated wonderfully don't get me wrong - but Sonic Prime seems to struggle, at least in this season, balancing developing character alongside the action. Did Sonic learn anything new about or develop his bonds with the Bozcage residents? No... not even Thorn Rose really. The pirates, aside from Dread, don't have anything unique about them to write home about.

The best parts of the season, for me, were Shadow (and by extension his dynamic with Sonic), Rusty Rose/Black Rose's friendship, Nine being... Nine (cuz he's cool and also has a great dynamic with Sonic), and Chaos Sonic. Why? Because they're one of the few interpersonal elements of the show that focus on characters and their relationships. We get Shadow being the pragmatic straight man to Sonic's recklessness. We see Rusty Rose change to the good side and form a connection with her counterpart. We explore something interesting when Sonic is forced to fight an even more obnoxious version of himself - and how Sonic hated seeing himself in Chaos Sonic, and then Nine's motivations are just plain good - and Sonic seeing him as real, while Shadow doesn't is just interesting philosophy.

But unfortunately- those were very small parts of a season that was mostly fight fight fight then eggmans bicker

Once again I feel like fans are doing the heavy lifting when finding the substance in these characters. I'll see posts that deconstruct the various versions of Knuckles and what that says about the Prime version - and like - yeah that's so cool! But I also think... you put way much more thought than the writers did. I genuinely think they said "Knuckles but jewel obsessed pirate" and called it a day. The show never tries to tie these versions back to exploring the original versions of these characters - Sonic isn't having any sort of introspection on his friends and what their strengths are and what they mean to him.

Also, again sorry for bringing this back to Dread but he was far less interesting in season 2. Tricking his crew was cool (since Prime Knuckles could never pull a move like that - which... again, would be nice for the show/Sonic to acknowledge in some way) but basically all his dialogue beyond that point becomes "me beauty" and just... eugh.

Anyways I hope season 3 just takes a breather to explore the characters more lol - because if anything happened to these counterparts - I wouldn't feel a damn thing unless it's Nine

Hey! I'm sooooo happy to finally find another person that ships Scarecrow and Batman! This is ship is so underrated and it deserves MUCH more recognition 👏☺️ Also, I love your art and analysis of these characters!

I don't know if you've answered this before, but what do you think about the Arkhamverse version of them? I would prefer Arkham Knight, but if you feel uncomfortable with it, Arkham Asylum is fine (I love both). I don't know what to think of it at the moment and I'm trying to form an opinion!

hello there!! i’m also happy to meet another fellow-minded scarebat believer out there! scarebat is just such a fascinating ship. i’m honestly go uwu when i see other people enjoying it too! this pair indeed deserve more recognition an’ love! an’ aw, heck, thank you! it makes me blush knowing that someone can have fun with those lil, whimsical things i do!

an’ oh, nope. i didn’t answer this one! arkhamverse’s content is smth that i see circulating around a lot, but i didn’t see much content for that version of scarebat. i guess, the constant choking, an’ ‘get on your knees now, crane’ wasn’t enough to awaken smth in anyone *besides me an’ 2-3 other fine wine enjoyers*. which is once again too bad, bc even design wise, they’re kinda a banger in their own right. whichever version we take, it’s just a good contrast between batman’s heavy armour an’ jon’s typical rags *with some cyber-punk touch later on*. like, while i’m a simple gal who tends to simp for ‘classic’ outlooks, i do appreciate what the game did. gotta love crane’s freddy krueger syringe glove, an’ how he got it embedded into bruce’s neck an’ chest, an’ then got stabbed with it himself lol. there is a lot of homoerotic stuff, which can be done with it! esp bc it’s such a close range weapon, an’ each version of akrham’s crane used it differently. in arkham asylum, he injected the poison into bruce’s arm. the desperate, angry action kinda reminded me of a pissy, bristling animal, that would bite your hand, when if you try to grab it. in the next game, jon was way more vicious, less of a thrashing opossum that you find in your garage an’ more of a snake, that you accidentally step on, while you climbing down your porch. the vast difference between his mental states then an’ later on is an interesting theme for speculations. esp bc bruce is also worse to wear in the next game. in fact, i’d say that arkham knight sorta depicts them at their subjective ‘worst’ almost. an’ it says smth, bc i don’t think that either of them are ever in good mental place.

i kinda find it interesting how some people would assume, that if person acts cold an’ detached, it means that they’re ‘in control’, when sometimes, it’s the opposite. in bruce’s case for sure. but i’d like this for some versions of crane as well, bc it suits his psychotype as well. not to mention, that jon’s hygiene in arkham knight is at its lowest too, which says a few things about his mental state right off the bat. or how he didn’t seem to properly treat his own wounds, just instantly throwing himself into his biggest scheme. a man truly possessed by revenge.

but welp, if we go into specifics of each separate version of arkhamverse, i guess, i will start with arkham asylum! my memories about those games are a bit rusty, but i’ll go with what i remember. providing more emphasis on arkham knight, since they do have more going on an’ you seem more interested in that specific version too!

still, first things first, i love how jonathan was half-naked during the first game lol. it’s just so funny to me, bc he is usually covered from head to toe, but in there, he was shirtless, wearing pants that held for dear life on those skinny hips an’ i’ll bet dude had nothing underneath them either. he’s never was the most proper person, admittingly, but idk, running around the dirty asylum an’ hunting your enemy while showing off your nips an’ stomach is…smth else. esp for a prude like crane. but i guess, at that point of time, he seemed to be so deranged, that his usual body issues no longer worried him. besides, poison ivy walked around in her underwear an’ blouse that was held together by one durable button, why can’t he do the same? it’s not like batman would comment on it, even if he wanted to. but like, honestly, all the hints of possible spooky + sexy times were there, so it’s a shocker, that no one has done anything about it yet. i mean, you literally have jonathan, who was flashing the bat for 20 minutes straight, an’ it’s not smth that the majority of cranes would ever have the guts to do in any other set-up. btas an’ comicverse ones would downright combust, before they’d be walking around batman shirtless. but not that gremlin. he was all about it. even if i do think, that he wasn't fully aware about what it means, an’ that it’s kinda embarrassing to do smth like that, while you are trying to be intimidating. he’s not bane. it’s not like he has some crazy muscular mass to show off. but it is very stimulating to think about the ways it all can be used in. the cold bat’s armour to exposed skin of a spooky toothpick. batman grips scarecrow’s clothes, when they fight. in there, it’ll be almost all naked skin. that’s a sexy imagery to have!

as for the substance of the arkham asylum on itself, i don’t think that scarecrow was in there a lot. but then again, maybe i just remember it this way. it is however curious how fast crane goes from campy looney to more serious, jarred person, we see in the next game. an’ his whole motivation shifts from ‘you’re just like us and have fears’ to ‘there is no saviour. no hope’. almost like he was very, very let down, when batman failed to save him that one time lol. but considering that arkhamverse kept jonathan’s comic origin, it’s safe to assume that yeah, he took that very-very personally. he isn’t the joker, who kinda never brings up how many times, batman casually let him ‘die’. the btas alone has like 3 occasions like that lmao. meanwhile, jon went into a scornful cold rage, after just one epic fail, which, at the end of the day, is very him lol. the drugged up bat didn’t save him, that’s it. no one’s supremacy, fuck gotham. an’ i’m only partly jeering here.

which leads us straight to to arkham knight version, an’ to bruce instantly going up there an’ choking the living hell out of jon, the second he sees him. what a reunion! esp with that whole head hitting an’ throwing crane onto floor, like a ragdoll. batman just had to assert his dominance, even when jonathan barely opened his mouth. *bc yeah, you stay down, bottom*. i like how crane tried his hardest to be serious an’ imposing during that whole deal, but the bat just wasn't super amused. yet, like usual, he did give the scarecrow room to speak later on. allowing him to walk around him. an’ boy, gotta appreciate that ‘bad guy's sly hips play’ as scarecrow circled the bat. it was quite a vision. even with fucked up leg, he managed to pull that off. i wish there were more moments like this. they had a lot of potential for more brutal scarebat interactions, than some other versions of them. all the cues for it were there. batman was hallucinating a ghost of a dead clown, who wouldn’t shut up about whatever, an’ jonathan was all about his ‘end goal’, not caring what he had to do to get to it. what an explosive combo. i was low-key surprised, that bruce didn’t wipe the floor with crane just out of pure frustration, an’ then some. an’ considering how fucked up they both are in that version, it wouldn’t put it past the ghost!joker to suggest they’d do smth else with crane, if batman is unwilling to kill him. there is actually a lot of leeway, with bruce blaming some stuff on his personal brain damage, while joker just keeps on pouring gasoline into the fire. i even had this one idea about the joker playing a horrible matchmaker just to make everyone even more miserable, but mostly just bruce. all while not expecting crane to be able to return the sentiment in his own messed up manner.

an’ speaking of sentiment, i do think that it can be here as well. it’ll be buried under layers an’ layers of pseudo-resentment, but that’s like typical scarebat. no one ever talk about their real emotions in that ship lol. well, not in a normal way. in arkham knight, i suppose the joker can be a narrator of bruce an’ crane’s relationships. not missing a beat to tell them *well, bruce* how much they suck. an’ he won’t even be wrong, batman abandoning some of his duties, bc well, this. an’ crane as per usual getting confused by feelings, that isn’t hatred or fear. they can enter those intense relationships with the worst kind of miscommunication. bc they awful at it, when they’re not super unstable *or at least one of them isn’t*, an’ now they can be godawful at it, bc batman is close to breaking point, an’ jonathan is at his bitterests an’ pettiest. crane also can assume, that he can ‘unmade’ the bat this way, all while messing up his own scheme in the process. with god’s help, they might even survive this. idk about gotham tho lol. the joker being a third wheel an’ technically a cuck in that situation just adds how messed up it all is. but maybe with jon’s ‘help’, they can deal with that problem too. i don’t think, crane would like to share in any way. i mean, he would have been pissed off, if he learned that batman had a mini-devil on his shoulder the whole time. in a way, it kinda defeats the purpose of it all. it would almost like taking all the credit from him, an’ he won’t stand for it. crane combating bruce’s personal ghosts for his own selfish, possessive needs is smth, i would have liked to see for them. jonathan accidently being a good psychiatrist to bruce is my peak scarebat dark comedy. similar to how in ‘kings of fear’, it was basically ‘i can fix him, but bitch, you’re worse’ kind of deal too. in return, bruce can try an’ help crane actually put some proper garnet for his leg on, an’ look a bit less like a sickly *even if scary-spooky-cool* animal. they can find some middle ground, even if for questionable reasons, or they can have that slow-burn from enemies to lovers thing too. heck, i mean, it’s a wonder how come that scarecrow didn’t kidnap bruce first to try an’ break him a tad more, before making gotham see ‘that they had no hope’ an’ all that.

on less game plot related notes, i do like to play around with what can be done about jon’s state in arkham knight. like his face being all messed up, half of his body moving way more stiffly, there are a lot of things that can be done with it. an’ the parallel of batman being crippled on the inside an’ crane being pretty much this an’ then also damaged outside of it….mmm, that’s just good. also we all know that nolanverse crane moaned ‘batman’ like a whore while his hair were pulled, but what about arkham knight’s scarecrow lil gay gasps an’ whimpers, when bruce held him by the throat an’ injected him with his own toxin? if gordon an’ jason weren’t there, i wonder what might have happened lol. love scarecrow’s scared expressions in that game btw, somehow they still manage to make him look cute.

an’ now for a bit of nitpicky bit. when i look back at arkham knight, like some other folks, i do wish there was less…joker in it. he did add some fun elements there or here, but he should have been a background segment tbh. i really wanted to see more of mindbending stuff similar to level in arkham asylum. batman ‘given into’ hallucination joker’s cheers to kill crane, even if it was all a mindfuck bit was tasteless for me. if they wanna make bruce kinda walk that route, i’d rather see him doing it by his own misgivings an’ rage. tho, i do give credit where it’s duo, crane saying ‘you’ve changed’ an’ not sounding esp thrilled about it was curious smth.

but omg, that’s got long, haha. hope, it’s not too troublesome. i’m kinda chatty an’ rambly kind of person, esp when i talk about things i love. can’t talk short in most cases.

Hi hi I stumbled across ur tags in that one tumblr post about atoms and I loved ur response!! I also had a question related 2 it. My knowledge of chemistry and atoms is very surface level (dropped out of my environmental sciences major after 2 years lol) so forgive me if this sounds a lil silly. But I thought atoms could touch? Like when they form bonds their electron clouds can overlap right? The cloud is part of the atom so they are touching I would think, even if the nuclei wouldn’t be. Or are those models inaccurate and the electron clouds don’t actually overlap, is that just a simplification for diagram purposes when teaching bonds? Ik you said we don’t know for certain about anything! Atoms are crazy weird but I was curious what the accepted opinion is on this! Ty u seem very very cool

Great questions, my background's mostly coming from the physics side of things and is a little rusty, but I've got enough mutuals who will yell at me in the replies if I get anything seriously wrong here.

That said, generally when physicists tell you 'things don't actually touch' what they mean is a) roughly speaking the 'surface' of all normal things are made of that electron cloud you're talking about, b) when things 'touch' those electrons get (obviously) very close to each other but still have a distance between them, because c) the Pauli Exclusion Principle, one of the basic underlying things that defines basically all of chemistry says that multiple electrons can't be in the same quantum state. This is all, more or less indisputable fact as proven by the fact that chemistry works and can make extremely accurate predictions about how chemicals will form, something that they could not do without this understanding of the electron as an elementary particle

But! You're also right that a covalent bond does represent an overlap of electron! The distinction between these things is twofold, first, when you, for instance, stand on the floor, the molecules in your shoes aren't bonding to the floor, they're reasonably well bonded to each other, but generally you're not creating new chemical bonds every time you stomp your feet, at least not to any significant degree. Instead what happens is that the electron clouds at both edges get very close to each other and go 'someone's already in here' by sending a blast of photons at each other, although here I have to note that the photons are what's called 'virtual photons' in that they're more mathematical conveniences than anything that gets out further than the local interactions, you couldn't see them because they're absorbed almost as soon as they're emitted to the extent that they have any reality, which they definitely kinda do in that they have observable effects on space when it's either very empty or very small.

The other distinction is that a covalent bond, the sort you're thinking is two atoms sharing one electron, in that case I think it's pretty reasonable to say that the two atoms are, for pretty much all purposes, touching at that point, since they can not be separated without the expenditure of energy to break that bond. The case that scientists are generally talking about when they bust out this Fun Fact at parties is when two electrons try to get near each other at the edge of a shoe and the ground rather than when two atoms bond, so you're right about the thing you're thinking of, but the scientists making this observation are also right about what they're discussing, I think OP of that post made it with the understanding that people would recognize it as being this argument rather than one about bonds, but it requires having been exposed to it before to do that, which not everyone has done! Hope this cleared things up and feel free to tag on any follow ups

Can you even map one on top of the other at all? Has anyone ever read Moby-Dick and thought, “wow, what a pathetic loser” about the whale? The ungraspable phantom of life himself???? Thin people don’t think of fat people as powerful and inscrutable phantoms—they’re absolutely positive they can scrute everything about us, our “everything” being CHEESY BUGLES! Hence this movie!!!!! Anyway, then Charlie uses his cursed rusty mobility aids to turn out the light and go to sleep. Spooky!

I can’t stop thinking about how many awards the visual effects people (or whatever department makes fat suits) are going to win for this. It’s like if I got a Nobel Prize for drawing a mean picture of your grandma. Also, for the record, I know the fat suit was really expensive, but it looks weird! It doesn’t hang right! He looks like the mascot for an NBA team called the Wichita Big Pile of Raw Chicken. Hmm, if only there was a way to depict a fat person in a movie without an expensive flappy silicon slug bag!

While Charlie is in the bathroom crying (really), Thomas shows up again and Ellie introduces herself: “What’s more surprising—that a gay guy has a daughter, or that someone actually found his penis?” Wow, once again, thank you so much to Darren Aronofsky and playwright Samuel D. Hunter for spending TEN YEARS on this extremely humanizing screenplay! I feel seen, unlike my own genitals!!!

Charlie is so moved that he goes, “You wrote these amazing, honest things… You’ve all been so honest with me. I just want to be honest with you too.” And then he TURNS ON HIS WEBCAM and SHOWS THEM HIS HUGE FACE AND BODY! All the students lose it and they’re grimacing and cowering before him and taking pictures of the screen, LOL, even though literally it just looks like a regular guy???????? It’s a Zoom square! It looks like a close-up of a guy’s face! No one would have any reaction to this! If there’s one thing this movie does perfectly, it’s trick thin people into telling on themselves about how uncomfortable they are around fat people!

Then Liz comes back and reveals that, LMAO, what happened to Alan is that he starved himself to death (kind of), and that’s why now Charlie has to EAT himself to death. Wooooooow, who wrote that brilliant juxtaposition? Grover??? Is this supposed to be profound? It's less nuanced than when people say “the terrorists hate our freedom”! Actually, you know what? This detail with Alan is the central problem with this entire movie: Being thin is not the opposite of being fat!!!!!!!! STARVING IS NOT THE OPPOSITE OF EATING. Having a body is a complex state! [...] Then they clarify that actually Alan starved himself ALMOST to death and then jumped off a bridge. Jumping! The most thin-privilege way to die!

sorrynotsorry bout all the whale poasting but this review by lindy west was very cathartic for me! its a shitty movie and extremely triggering not just for fat people but anyone with any sort of complicated feelings around food and your own body tbh. so im sharing it here. butt news has a free subscription and lindy west is hilarious so. go read it and maybe read some other reviews too

i'm not sure if i like this version of hated john better than the original hmmm.... his voice is certainly more dynamic but it doesnt feel like he's used to singing like that haha. a lot of voice effects being used too. i guess it's not better or worse it's just different p: instrumental sounded identical to the original to me but i'll have to relisten, i wasnt paying much attention to it

Well it was another Week and I'm as frustrated at work as ever

But yesterday I went to karaoke for the first time since the pandemic began. So the first time in more than four years. Wasn't sure I'd really go until I was outside the building. The last time I tried to do solo karaoke (again, four+ years ago), they turned me away for being alone. But they've made it easy now to check in by yourself, so no awkward convos with employees disappointed that you'll be using a room by yourself haha. I even checked online that solo karaoke was okay at the place I was going and it all looked good.

Expected to feel really weird about singing by myself to bad karaoke tracks, even though I used to go fairly often and never felt weird about it. And after the first couple songs, I really got into it, and had a great time. When I'm in a group I have to be more careful what songs I pick because the type I like to sing are not songs people like to hear at karaoke lol. If I were an amazing singer I guess they'd tolerate me buuuut not only am I a very average singer, I'm also very rusty hahaha. Going alone means I can sing "Memory" in three languages over and over again if I want to. No one's there to be annoyed!

And I got dinner there too: okonomiyaki, shiso rice ball, cheesy potato mochi, and fries. Healthy? No. Delicious? Yes. And cheap! After two hours, my total for both the room and the food was 2600 yen - less than twenty US dollars. (Ohhhh exchange rate how you sucker-punch me...) I'm sure the company doesn't like that I usually don't order alcohol while alone >_> but anyway. So I got to eat my favorite foods and sing badly to my heart's content. It was tempting to do a third hour, and I might next time, but it's been so long since I sang anything that my voice was feeling pretty strained, even though I keep the music volume low. (Another thing that always bugs me with group karaoke: everyone else always wants the music volume so damn loud! Never understood why. Can't hear anything except the objectively terrible karaoke tracks! Also at group karaoke I can never order the food I want either lol going alone is infinitely superior fuck having friends bahahahaha)

Really glad I went and didn't talk myself out of it because of fear of feeling embarrassed by myself while by myself. It was nice to learn that I haven't lost the part of me that has no compunctions about just doing whatever the fuck I want as long as I'm alone. Staff were really nice too. Didn't bat an eye at a foreigner showing up even though there were no English translations except for English songs.

WIP from November 3rd, 2023 A case of me doing something completely different and then it derailed, but not in a bad way this time! In my "do whatever" art days before college I used to just make something up for one scene/illustration, the art equivalent of free writing I guess. Free designing? I used to do that all the time (I think most artists do), and I'm not sure why I stopped outside of wanting to finish a project for once. But this is a good reminder that I can just make characters without having to immediately make it A Thing™, even if I decide to later on. I think I've been restricting myself too much in that regard lately, as if doing this is "less important" than my active project work. An easy trap to fall into! My New Year's resolution for 2023 is to do more illustration work though, so hopefully I can finish this before the end of the year and add it to my goal of 5 finished pieces. The title/logo is just as random, though me coming up with a title based on vibes is very common for me lol. It's a good springboard for expanding the concept later on, if I feel like it. "That's life!" was a common phrase I heard growing up from the more cynical people in my life, though with more ghostly imagery here maybe it could take on a more literal meaning as well. Even though it's pretty minimal here, oh boy am I rusty at backgrounds! As usual! :') I did better with the colours than I thought I would though, I made this while being incredibly sleep deprived so I waited until after sleeping to post it just in case. Luckily I still like it! I hope you do too :) If I ever stop drawing magical characters with animal inspirations assume I've perished lmao

I think (although I'm not 100% sure) that the topic of HP has been discussed here before, but I can't find those posts, so I'll just write what comes to my mind (if it's the same as what that person wrote, I apologize to them) - what if Matthew was a wizard and Spider would have inherited his magic? He would attend Hogwarts from the age of 11 (I don't know what house he would be in, I think Gryffindor or Huffelpuff but I can't choose) and he would only come back to Mccosker for holidays. Let's assume that the action of Custody takes place during the holidays. After being kidnapped, would Spider have told Quaritch the truth about his origins? What would Quaritch think about this? Would he let Spider do some magic? Any other thoughts of yours on this topic?

Yeah there was at least one HP question before (I prob just tagged it the same as all the other questions, so it's likely unfindable aha!)

So I agree on Spider being a Huffledor or Gryffinpuff, he's such a good mix of the two imo! I reckon he'd be a lot less concerned about how the McCoskers view him because he'd have so much extra structure from his boarding school life.

I haven't read all the books and I'm generally a bit rusty, but my recollection is you don't tell non-magic people about magic? (Muggles?) So I feel like Spider wouldn't jump to tell Quaritch. (Also, surely that means he could come up with something to help him escape which would be completely unexpected and totally blow Q's mind?)

What interests me with this question is if Matthew was a wizard then would he and Spider possibly have crossed paths in a way they haven't in the fic? If they cross paths, do they have a bond now? With that in mind, would Spider even still be at the McCoskers? Do they get to take their wands home from school - and if so does Spider having his wand on him or not on him affect what he can do while with Quaritch? I feel like I have more questions than answers on this one lol.

In terms of how Quaritch would react to magic... if he hadn't believed in it or been aware of its existence then that's life changing and no doubt he'd have some fear around what it could do. I do think he'd be open to Spider explaining (if Spider was so inclined) and even demonstrating as long as they'd discussed beforehand. His wider concern would be if the magic would cause him to lose Spider (Spider is too powerful for him, can escape, or Spider has powerful magical friends, can escape or Spider's magic will draw enemies to Spider who could harm him etc). If he could accept that magic was real and Spider wanted to live with him and use it (safely) I doubt he'd have a problem with that.

Sorry if this wasn't a thorough enough answer - it's a very interesting question and I think could make an interesting crossover, but my HP knowledge just isn't that great 😅

I'm going to preface this by saying that I've been a xavi apologist for a long time and usually like to give him the benefit of the doubt most of the time, but looking back on this year has got me wondering exactly what his role is. So I don't really pay attention to many other team radios the way I do to charles', but the ones I have looked in on, I haven't noticed them defer drivers questions as much as he does. Like when Charles asks something, it's always "we'll get back to you" "we're checking" to the point that's it's become a meme. I haven't noticed this happen as often to other drivers - the long delay to come back with a response. (again, I'm not overly familiar with most of the other driver/engineer radio chats) Like I get that a lot of the things need to be checked with the rest of the strategy team, but sometimes it's simple questions that he surely has the answer right in front of him (I mean, at times even I have the answer just watching the telemetry from home) just wondering if you maybe knew more about the role of the engineer: is it to just be like a telephone switch operator, relaying information from one side to the other like it sometimes appears xavi does.

And then another sort of related point that I was thinking. Do you ever think that maybe Ricky is maybe more assertive than Xavi is or something like that. I obviously have no insight into the communication that goes about during the session between race engineers and the rest of the team, but I would imagine it's something like engineer relays drivers feedback and preferences to rest of the team (I know they all listen in, but just to oversimplify my basic understanding), team makes a decision, passes it on to race engineer who then tells driver. Do you think that when these discussions take place before a decision is made that maybe Ricky could be more insistent about certain points like "Carlos wants this", whereas Xavi maybe doesn't really argue charles' feelings as much. Because on the outside looking in, it often feels like charles will request something and they don't go for it (like the slicks in Q1 today) and I know the same happens to Carlos at times, but I feel like it happens less often and he often seems to have the opportunity to discuss it a lot more over radio instead of being ignored or a flat out no like on the other side of the garage. I hate when people say that charles is not assertive enough or whatever and now I'm making the same claims about people on his team lol, but anyway, just wanted to know if anyone else ever got this impression.

I’m still a Xavi apologist… (he is just the public facing coat of paint on a rusty af and falling apart car)

Question 1

Re Xavis job, the whole deferring thing is pretty normal. The reason it’s a meme with Ferrari is because it is Ferrari and we also just get to hear more of these calls from them on the normal broadcast than we do of the other teams.

Every team has their own version of “we are checking” and “we’ll get back to you”. For some it’s just “Copy, standby”. It does the same thing which is to signal to the driver that they were heard and that they are thinking about it or looking at the data.

Same thing with the whole “..., question” thing. That’s just to let the driver know that they are expecting an answer and that they aren’t just giving them infos.

People just don’t meme “Copy, standbye” because A) there is less going on with those teams and B) because especially this season Ferrari does get deserved shit but also a lot of undeserved shit where people just want to find faults in everything.

A race engineer's main job is to be the connection between the driver and the team. Both in terms of giving the driver the info they need and also in terms of relaying the driver feedback back to the team. They are also involved in the whole setup process and helping the driver get the best out of themselves and the car. This includes things like telling them where they are losing time and where and how they can get more lap time and so on. Or keeping them calm when they are throwing a little strop.

There are infos that Xavi can give Charles immediately but a lot of the time when Charles is told we are checking it’s not actually Xavi that’s the problem. If we are talking about strategy and pitting mid race then Xavi doesn’t make those decisions. He is just there to relay the information back and forth from Charles to the strategist and so on. Xavi isn’t the one that makes the decision to pit or not to pit. That’s the strategists. He is involved so a certain extent but he doesn’t make the decisions.

Xavis also isn’t the one that has to make sure that the tyres are ready for the pitstop, which is again someone else's job.

There are definitely times when Xavi could do better but a lot of the things people are holding against him or are angry about aren’t actually on Xavi.

But outside of like laptimes most things aren’t super straight forward. So if Charles says there is something off with the engine for example, that’s not too easy to check unless there is a massive and glaring problem. There are so many sensors that they get data from and to check all of them takes a little bit.

The other thing is that they also have to sometimes wait to tell the driver things just because they need to wait until they are back on a straight because some don’t like being talked to during corners because they can’t pay attention and so on.

What I am not too sure about is who checks the weather data because if that is Xavi then he needs a crash course in rain radars. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that is also someone else because I’m pretty sure there is someone that is responsible for the weather stuff. At least during a race or during qualifying because Xavi has enough to do.

But like imagine having an exasperated Charles on one side and whatever mess the strategy team is on the other side. That’s not fun.

Question 2

I also hate it when people go on about Charles not being assertive enough because that isn’t the problem at all.

I don’t know who out of Xavi and Ricky is more assertive.

But I don’t think that that is the problem. Again, I don’t actually know but just from how I feel I think the issue is a different one.

I think that they are way too reliant on their data and simulations. They don’t trust themselves or their drivers. I think that they are way too scared to make mistakes that they just look at the numbers and often blindly trust them even when the drivers say something else.

I don’t think Ricky argues Carlos wishes more because half the time Carlos gets the better strat he didn’t even want it. Or it wasn’t because he wanted something else but because of other external circumstances like already being undercut.

I think the reason why it feels like it’s always Charles that doesn’t get what he wants is on one hand because we just pay more attention to him but also because it gets more attention from Ferrari fans because he often wants the right thing. And then in hindsight when they didn’t give it to him we are all up in arms.

With Carlos there are less of these moments, at least that I know of, where he asks for the right thing. Maybe that is my personal confirmation bias based around the false idea that Carlos is supposedly much better at strategy.

But I genuinely can’t remember many times where Carlos made the right call. Because like in Monaco pitting wasn’t wrong, it was just the wrong lap because Carlos was supposed to be pitted but then was already undercut so they kept him out. So there are a few moments when it seems like they correctly listened to Carlos but actually didn’t.

Anyway, I can think of more times where Charles has asked for the right thing than Carlos. So I think it’s more an issue of just not listening to either.

And quite often, like Monaco and Hungary Charles and his team picked the right strategy ahead of the race. The plan with Charles ahead of Monaco was wets to dries. But because they “had to” react to Checo and couldn’t with Carlos because he had already been undercut they used Charles. And he almost made it work. And in Hungary he was on the right M-M-S strategy but they again felt like they had to react and cover and that fucked it.

So at least in the OG strategy meetings Charles tends to get the right strategy and the one that he wants. And mid race there is so much happening that I don’t think Xavi really gets to argue the cause much.

They barely ever have to or feel like they have to react to a threat with Carlos. There is much less need to argue things when he gets to have fairly straight forward races, the issues all arise when they feel the need to react to a threat.

But like Q3 happened because they thought it would rain before Q3 starts and they told Charles that and asked him if he wants inters. And why would he say no when he is told that it’ll rain before Q3 even starts. Carlos wasn’t given that choice, at least not on the radio.

And if it’s supposed to actually start raining before Q3 no driver would want to be on inters.

Should Charles decide that Xavi isn’t right for him then that’s fine! But I still very much do not think that Xavi is the actual problem. He is just unfortunately the public face of decisions that aren’t his own.

Howdy, it’s been a hot minute since my last review! Life happens, as it does. Hope you’re doing alright, sending my support and care. Always a pleasure seeing you on my dash. I’m back after rereading Chapter 2 (finally lol). Here’s my live commentary on it :]. The song you picked the chapter title from is also a certified banger btw, TIL what disinter means. Also I couldn’t help myself and read Chapter 5 as soon as you posted it, let me just say I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS, all of them are the good kind of excruciating. But Chapter 2 time first!! Sorry not sorry(?), this review’s even longer.

Nightmare sequence opening let’s gooooo. Max talking to Victoria during the Vortex Club party each repeat, always reassuring yet blaming herself for that single mistake she made once (which was the smart option given her limited information at the time) and always prevented afterwards hits a certain way. And you just know Victoria’s becoming less abrasive mostly due to the increasing levels of car crash fucked up Max is looking and acting like. But hey, at least she gets to wake up in a cuddle pile. Describing sleeping amberprice as a pair of koalas is so big brained of you honestly. “Her joints are sort of creaky, sort of crunchy, and very unwilling to listen to her.” Same Max, same. Her standards for what makes an injury worth worrying over is so funny because it only applies to herself and I know she’d start freaking out the second Chloe gets a paper cut. She’d be all: “Is he bothering you, queen?” (he being an innocent, inanimate roll of film). Nothing, not even anxiety over the impending and looming future, is worse than looking at one’s reflection. Again, same Max, same. Out of the way popular fanon fursona backed up by canon evidence (deer), Max’s true inner self represented by an animal is a raccoon with hypothermia and rabies <333. The similarities are astonishing. A) Bags under her eyes so big they’re banned from airplanes as carry ons, B) Legitimately keeping the option of running into the woods as a not so distant backup plan, and C) Feral.

Newton’s law of inertia, Sisyphus, and Orpheus walk into a bar, and Max Caulfield walks out. She’s completely right to be worried about Chloe tripping down the stairs, considering that’s what almost happened at the end of the previous chapter lol. Rachel sums up how everyone is feeling about Max rn: “You’re fucking nuts”. I’m so normal about her mentally comparing them to Chloe’s parents and having an instance of genuine, unadulterated happiness from it. Rachel and Chloe both getting embarrassed is so cute. The way you describe Max here, “Liquid sunlight shot straight through her veins, strawberry lightning fizzling through each strained, twitching muscle of her heart.” SO GOOD BRO THE IMAGERY. Also the line right afterwards, “Happiness is foreign to her at this point, and therefore just as likely to cloud her judgement as carnal anxiety or blind anguish.” Emotions come preinstalled when you’re born and are a vital component of the human condition Max plsss. But her rewinding anyway to savor the ephemeral moment until her nose bleeds is perfect. While Max cares more about Rachel’s sweater getting blood on it than where the blood is coming from, at least Chloe has a good retort when she points out the sweater isn’t what’s bleeding. Max confirming her nosebleeds have been happening for a while now must have fired off every one of Chloe’s concern receptors since it certainly wasn’t a childhood phenomenon. “Max has to be careful, or she'll be tempted to stop and stare forever.” Her resolution to stop, not for herself, but to simply take in Chloe and Rachel, just for a little while, has got me shaking my fists in the air. And right after Rachel says she never left too RAHHHHH, APF SAVE ME!! *proceeds to get hit by the emotional equivalent of an eighteen-wheeler, flattened via steamroller, and then scraped up by a rusty snow plow*.

Rachel’s being observant enough for all three of them. “'I know what you did last summer' stare” LMAO. Maybe a concussion would fix Max idk. Can’t say it would hurt at this point :p. Describing your emergency surgery situation as a debacle sure is a word choice Rachel. “Seriously, what kind of fucked up serial killer bullshit?” I’m pretty sure some permutation of that sentence left my mouth several times in increasing frequency when I first played LiS even though I knew what was going to happen haha. That moment Rachel realizes Max, illogically as it seems, was the one who saved her was very well done. I’m loving the comparisons to a bloodied hare Max is evoking in everyone, because I think it provides something important. But Max knows it’s due to her deliberate choice of throwing herself repeatedly at her and everyone else’s problems. IDK, the juxtaposition is just really interesting to me!! “The name rolls off her tongue like molten ore, white-hot richness scorching down her jaw and branding her indebted to its owner.” The amberfield of it all… And Max accepting the cigarette afterwards while Chloe is left gawking ARGHHH. “...sotto voce, a sentiment simmering and secretive…” The alliteration, I love alliteration! Rachel’s biggest fear being permanently separated from Chloe, even more so than dying, and never having the chance to see her again *insert Kermit jumping off building superimposed over BtS after credits scene here*. Yeah the astrology girl comparing her gf to celestial bodies, in both brilliance and importance alike, got to me. Max saying she picked up the word hella from a friend I’m literally crawling up my walls.

Chloe my pathetic little meow meow, “...what lanky skeeve of a hipster does Chloe have to punch out for giving the girl her first cigarette?” I have some bad news to break to you. Ofc David spills the beans -_-. All things considered, Chloe is doing an amazing job at keeping calm until Max’s lichtenberg scar jumpscares her. “She just needs to know what the fuck is going on so she can figure out how to help.” But it’s the one thing she can’t possibly help with without sending Max into a spiral of anxiety. Max believing she’s a bigger cause of strife for Chloe than mf Mark “I drug and photograph teenage girls” Jefferson has me losing my mind. Also Chloe acknowledging what she would’ve given for an apology before Max stumbled back into her life, but now that she has there’s nothing she wants less makes me feel some kind of way (heartbroken, I’m feeling heartbroken). Max berating herself out loud with such vitriol is just so :(. “Instead, she falls back on tried and true reassurance from their younger days, familiar words bubbling up from somewhere far brighter than here and now.” Now I’m imagining younger pricefield and my eyes are sweating while I’m writhing on the floor. I understand Max’s mom is in the right here as a concerned parent whose child might as well have gone missing, but woooo you go Max you curse her out for trying to yank you away woooo. “Please stay out of trouble while I'm gone.” It’s the Magic School Bus Theme Song, “With the Price? No way!”

If you couldn’t tell from my absolute monster of a ramble, this chapter is fantastic. I’ve reread it multiple times, and my review is little more than a 1,000 word proofread version of me screaming into a pillow. Thanks for writing, seriously.

Omg Braise helping Kindlin relearn how to speak firish more fluently She's very rusty when they first meet lol

After a few months of improvement and hanging out he asks her if she would like to come visit fire land with him for the holidays Kindlin feels so bad about asking Cirrus if she can go at first, but she really does wanna see fire land at least once in her life. And Braise seemed pretty excited for her to meet everyone there. He lives with a lovely little family where he's the oldest of 3 siblings lol Now 4

Cirrus is a little scared to leave the country, especially one where she doesn't even know the language, but will do so for her.

She knows it's a big ask and is honestly a little worried about her getting hurt in a place not built for air people

I thought about it being a rare condition to have some magnesium fire and theres spiritual beliefs it means your favored by the blue flame.

Blue Fire people are said to be direct descendants of the blue flame. Maybe people with this condition are sought after by them to join their family, a lesser part of the family but still a part. Most people decline due to how cutthroat it is to live with that family and all their restrictions. That doesn't mean the more committed members of the family won't try to pester them relentlessly about it.

If anything Flicker isnt really comfortable with all the praise and attention. Even if hes too young to understand it all he doesnt like the eyes and expectations from peers

What if noticing that makes Kindlin afraid of sharing about her life at home Earth parents, air wife, smoke children, she wasn't ashamed of them at all But she was by herself in a place she's never been with practically strangers who seemed to hold some sort of judgement

She doesn't bring them up until braise mentions he met her wife and kids and how lovely the little smokies are He's all excited to be an uncle no matter the element type, and his family shares his enthusiasm She ends up showing them pics of her and Cirrus and the kids, Birch and Sequoia, Sprout, and all her friends All kinds of elements They really just seem happy that Braise isn't alone in the big city

Assorted AC6 thoughts now that enough time has elapsed for me to write down coherent stuff and I had time to reflect on it a bit. Will be very disorganized because otherwise I wouldn't be able to write anything

Ok this game has skyrocketed into the top 5 favorite games ever for me, and also one of the best games I've ever played objectively. I already felt like this after finishing it just once but the subsequent playthroughs cemented this even more. It's like everything I love about the AC series amplified by 100. They put crack in this thing. Also (though this goes in general for the AC series) I'm very glad to have found a Fromsoft series to get attached to, because I've always loved their way of making games but I could never find anything that really kept me all the way till the end of the game.

Favorite things about this game were the story and characters hands down. I'm the type of guy who plays games for these two things, I don't really care for gameplay even if it's doo doo ass it won't influence my rating of the game much (though this game's gameplay was INSANE good of course. I'm fucking addicted to it) I value pieces of media for their ability to make me feel REALLY strong emotions (which doesn't actually happen often), and I can say with great confidence that rarely has anything ever made me feel as strongly as this game. Probably only Extella and some parts of FGO. I don't remember ever having to take so many and so long pauses simply because I had to emotionally prepare to continue or actually ponder decisions to take. I'm usually very quick to make decisions and just say "fuck it we ball" even in what are supposed to be emotionally charged moments lol.

My list of endings going by enjoyment would be LoR > FoR > AIE. It's hard to explain because I think all 3 endings were more or less equally well-executed, all 3 of them made me feel the equivalent of emotion I feel throughout an entire year, but what makes the difference are the types of emotions and themes. It all comes down to very personal tastes. AIE genuinely gave me an existential crisis and made me go "good lord what have I done" (yes even more than FoR) and was the hardest one to go through emotionally, because it touched on topics I have very strong opinions on and to complete it I basically had to go against all my ideals and what I would normally choose to do. All of this discomfort was more than made up for by Iguazu though. Honestly I'll just talk properly about him and the other characters in other posts when I feel insane enough because otherwise this post would be 3km long

FoR had my favorite mission in the game, Breach the Karman line. Which was honestly one of the highest moments in gaming in my experience. The setting in (near) space, the unlimited energy, the callbacks to the Old King route from 4A, and the Rusty boss fight. Goddddd how did they fucking DO THAT how did they engineer Rusty to be the perfect character for me. And the insane HAUNTING feeling finishing this route gives you. A tragedy of your own creation. The monster who burned the stars.

LoR is the ending I felt less conflicted choosing, even though killing Carla and Chatty killed a part of my soul as well, and I felt like the Destroy the Drive Block mission was a reward for having the courage of choosing this route. Rusty helping you (he was the first one to answer the call.... what are we......) and complimenting you, getting to feel like a real hero, a real Raven... Someone who uses their means to be a champion of free will and freedom. And then the fight with Walter. Him being the final boss was a mix of being caught completely off guard, but also expecting it. I remember thinking "what if Walter is the final boss... No, couldn't be, he's gone". I was honestly terrified of him just blowing up in our face because of what we had done but this was the first step of me realizing that the character I had created in my head, and had been bracing myself for the entire game ("ok this is it, he's gonna get PISSED and show his true nasty self") simply didn't exist. I had been wrong the entire time. Walter means THE WORLD to me and I could (and WILL) write like 50 pages about him.

Likely forgot something and my concentration is already going to shit, but also I don't want to make this post longer than it already is so like. I'll leave the thoughts about the characters and whatever else comes to mind for some other time. If this game doesn't win GOTY I'll become the joker. Also I'm petty saying this because I actually like BG3 but AC6 made me feel more in the 56 hours it took me to finish than BG3 did in the 200+ hours I've already put into it lol.
