since 2022, after watching kinnporsche twice that summer and losing my marbles, i've fallen into a deep well of thai tv.
shout out to love in the air, bad buddy, and cutie pie, my 2nd, 3rd, & 4th bls watched in the fall of 2022. they were all so delightful (in very different ways) that i simply had to keep going.
in 2023 i watched 24 thai dramas: mostly bl's but 1 notable gl gap the series (and another tiny gl if you count zero photography with inkpa my beloveds), and two shows that are neither (mama gogo and the warp effect should be on everyone's watch list! so great!) i have never in my life watched this much television.
my favorite of 2023 is definitely my school president. there was a lot of competition (wedding plan! moonlight chicken! so many more omg) but msp is the only one i rewatched immediately. the chinzhilla babies stole every inch of my heart. it couldn't be anyone but them.
last twilight is still ongoing so i'm going to count it as 2024, and since it hasn't finished i can't say for certain it will end as beautifully as it started (i think it will. i hope it will.). it is currently rearranging every molecule in my body 24/7. i think it's going to be one of my favorite shows ever heyyyyyyyyy. I'M SERIOUS I AM VIBRATING
also currently watching cherry magic with taynew and it is completely adorable. my dash is soaked to the gills with the sign and pit babe, though i'm not watching either show. it's entertaining to watch them both in gifs (every pit babe post i see hacks another week off my life though. lord.)
2024 is off with a bang.
it's pretty funny that so many of us started watching thai bl's because of kinnporsche, looking for more of ~that~, because as it turns out there is no other show like kp, and yet i am completely hooked. i think i've seen enough of them at this point that i have a feel for the rhythms of the genre, though my watchlist is tiny in comparison to a lot of the blogs i follow. i love it and i have loved learning more about thai language, culture, & politics.
it's been a wild fun time, and i'm thankful to everyone i follow, including my handful of mutuals who have given me recs, made gorgeous gifsets & vids, written fic, & thrown some of the best and most hilarious tags in any fandom i've been in. you're all fantastic!!!

currently watching: cooking crush. pit babe. the sign. (not up to date on any of these . Sigh.) khun chai (almost finished. love ittt). ossan's love 2018 (listen .... it's good actually). 1670 netflix. Treme (super underrated series about new orleans recovering in the wake of hurricane katria)
three ships: restricting this to the thai bl context 1. I gotta say both jiutian and tinncharn made me absolutely wild in the last few months so i think i have to include filmjam/jamfilm, tho I don't really have any thoughts on them themselves, haven't really engaged with any extra content, i juuuuust think they made good shows. 2. earthmix is probably the ship that I've ended up thinking about the most .. . the lore.....the lore ... !!! i simply cannot comment on this. 3. again i am transfixed by the LORE for OFFGUN....... they've prevailed they've traversed they've grown so much. hopefully they can continue working together for years to come. also you know what sneaky extra one. 4. forcebook. they just have a nice vibe!!! i like it when they hug after doing an emotional scene!!!!!!!!! i liked it when they yelled about their love for each other on top of that bungee jumping tower so sue me!!!!!!!
favorite color: green green green of the sludgy / earthy / olivey tones. I am getting big into earthy orange / terracotta as well.

first ship: ok . how deep we gonna go. stuff I was reading in my early teens. martin / rose from the redwall books. (redwall was the first thing i Ever read fanfic for.) will / bran from the dark is rising. There's a surprising amount of fanfic for them! marcus / esca the eagle of the ninth. tbh several of those rosemary sutcliff books have these VERY intense masculine warrior bonds and it was uhh a Lot to process.

currently reading: am not reading anything tbh but i am listening to sally green’s half bad -trilogy as audio books! am at the last book, half lost, now and i am expecting to have my heart ripped out (this is funny bc the main character literally does stuff like this)
currently watching: i follow you’re my sky and not me weekly as the new episodes drop. i’ve also been on a rewatch roll lately and am currently rewatching love sick the series (2014) which is hilarious (also just. everyone is so baby. white, toptap, gunsmile, sing... jeez), only finished rewatching 3 will be free yesterday, and i also have my country: the new age going, tho that is happening very slowly bc each episode is super rough. oh i also finished watching i told sunset about you on friday! so now i know what that’s about. looking forward to starting new bls tho, am happy we get this steady stream of them haha
currently consuming: bls lol. it really seems to be the moment for me where i just consume every bl i’ve left for later while i was in my cdrama cycle. bc of this i finally got into gen y (tho i keep skipping most of the stuff that isn’t about markkit bc well, i just don’t care tbh) and also watched fish upon the sky in like. three days or something (it was funky but also a bit boring but ALSO made me fall in love with both pond and phuwin). now am just obsessed with various bl actors and keep watching some random tiktok compilations for fun aka i have no idea where my life is going but when do i (also i watched both seasons of the gifted right after/before bad buddy ended and it was a journey? i cannot get the concept out of my head now and i think i will just have to go scout nanon’s every drama ever sigh)
currently craving: more bl rewatches! there are a couple i’d love to watch again. also a couple of cdramas, especially reboot and psych-hunter. also am craving more ot3 content for things and some drama similar to 3 will be free. that one just always makes me so happy wow.

Summary: Rowan Whitethorn has finally found Maeve, the Fae who has been enslaving his wife. When he arrives, Aelin is already gone, having run away upon his arrival. Maeve has brainwashed the Queen of Terrasen, forcing her to believe that her mate, her husband, is out to kill her. Aelin will not rest until she is far from Rowan, and Rowan will not rest until he has his wife back.

Aelin hated pubs.
And yet, there was something oddly familiar about the smell of ale being slushed about by men who thought far too highly of themselves.
Something empowering.
Something comfortable.
Something habitual.
She was sitting in a corner booth when the table next to hers became occupied. She had her muddy boots up on the tabletop, one ankle tossed casually over the other. The hood of her cloak hung low, hiding the fact that she was female from those who filled the pub. The dim lighting certainly helped, too, to her delight.
It hid the fact that she was a woman. Hid the fact that she was a spitting image of the Queen of Terrasen.
She didn’t want to risk it. Not being this close to her homeland.
“Haven’t you heard?”
Aelin held her breath as the gruff sound of a man’s voice ripped through her meditation. Her eyes swiveled to the table next to hers, where two men were sitting across from one another.
“Terrasen is going to shit,” the other man grumbled. “All the young queen does is roam the streets shaking hands and kissing babies.”
Something within Aelin shook. She couldn’t define it, whether it was terror or disappointment or excitement. Lysandra was currently running her country, if her plan had worked as she had hoped it would so many months before.
Months. Years. She couldn’t remember. She had stopped keeping track after a while, once her routine had become too corrupt to follow.
She found herself wondering how Lysandra was doing, if Aedion had kept his promise to help produce an heir. Aelin wondered how long she had truly been absent if Lysandra was still wandering about, passing time, thinking Aelin would return.
Of course, she had known when she’d let herself be taken by Maeve - no, not taken. She had gone willingly - that there would be an attempt of rescue on her behalf, that Rowan would come after her.
Aelin’s stomach began to churn.
But Rowan only wanted to bring her back so that he could kill her himself.
Maeve had told her as much. Maeve had told her everything, had given Aelin a new insight on everything she had never known about her mate.
But he wasn’t her mate.
Mates didn’t seek out to kill their other halves.
It was all a lie. A lie in its purest form. A lie that had been disguised as love.
Aelin should have known better. She should have known it was all a lie, should have known he hadn’t abandoned his deceitful, hateful nature.
When she had met him, he had loathed her. He had found her weak, cowardly. He had thought she was nothing more than a useless, foolish human.
His thoughts had never changed.
Not even love could change a man from his forbidding ways.
Yet, she remembered the way his soul spoke into hers, the way he had made her feel like the bad things weren’t so bad. She remembered the pull toward him, the tug, and wondered how he had pulled it all off.
He had helped her heal, only to break her once again.
“Terrasen has never had a chance,” one of the men said, his accent thick, as Aelin lifted her mug to her cold, dry lips. “Not since the king and queen were murdered in cold bl -”
The mug had slipped from her hands, spilling onto her lap, soaking her cloak and her trousers.
The men stopped and looked at her, but Aelin showed no indication that she knew.
That she knew they were looking.
That she knew who they were talking about.
That she knew anything of importance on the matter.
She simply tossed her mug onto the floor, the glass shattering. She pulled a coin out of her pocket, and fiddled it around her fingers.
“You two are interested in politics,” she purred.
She kept her eyes on the table, she didn’t want to be noticed. But she knew they were looking, knew they were watching her intently.
“A pub is no place for a woman,” the one man said, lightly - his accent reminding her of an old friend.
But he was no friend.
She knew he was grinning.
Knew ideas that would surely get him killed were wandering through his airry head.
“I am no woman,” Aelin smirked. “I’m more of a nightmare.”
Their humor faded as Aelin asked, again, “Politics?”
“What’s it matter to you?” the other asked.
Aelin tossed her coin onto their table, then asked, “The Fae, the one in her court…..is he in Terrasen?”
“Aedion Ashryver?” the man chuckled, and Aelin’s heart fell into the pit of her stomach. “The bastard is seen with the queen every time she makes an appearance. Probably appears in her bedchambers, too.”
Aedion. She hadn’t even thought about her cousin.
Flooded with guilt, and disgust at his allegations, she replied, “No, the full blood. Rowan Whitethorn.”
No one in the bar seemed to notice that the two men were laughing so hard that they were practically falling out of their booth.
“Rowan Whitethorn? Are you mad?” the man with the accent sniggered. “Doesn’t he belong to the Queen of the Fae? Kissing her ass and warming her bed?”
Aelin simply fell silent as the two men turned back around, her coin now in their possession, and forgot about the crazy girl in the corner of the pub.
If people still thought Rowan was with Maeve, he must have never returned to Terrasen. He must be looking for her, still.
Aelin took a deep breath, and rose from her booth, soaked and smelling of ale. She left a tip on her table before falling out into the sunlight of the small village just north of Terrasen.
Rowan was coming for her.
And she would let him find her, because when he did, she would be ready.
He couldn’t kill her if she killed him first.
He may be one of the deadliest Fae males in existence, but Aelin had one thing he didn’t.
Her fire.
And she would burn the world to ashes before she ever let her husband lie a treacherous hand on her again.

This Week in BL - I'm sorry but The Sign just WINS

Ongoing Series - Thai
The Sign (Sat YT) ep 5 of 10 - Fun fun fun. I feel sorry for Yai dealing with these two doomed lovers fated mate drama queens. He got a queen of his own to look after, cut the poor boy some slack.
Meanwhile, if evil... why so shirtless?
Hold on peeps, gotta rip my shirt off in a v stripper way, might get blood on it. Not that I’m complaining. Also, a strap? Man after my own heart.
Awe. Baby boy has magic sparkle punch!! Yay!
Meanwhile Phaya is my current fav himbo. These two are beyond pretty together. I love the stark contrast in their fantasies about each other. Phaya's is a way more romantic. Normally I don’t like a white towel sponge bath, but that was the most effective one ever deployed by any BL plot since Love Sick. Well done writer's room. This show is FANTASTIC.
Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 7 of 12 - I say this every week but I truly love this show. Another pair of great communicators, I love that BL is giving us this right now (rather than the usual run of plot driven by willful miscommunication). I’m sad D was mean to M but I see where they’re coming from (for the purpose of story & plot). And the boys did a great job. Jimmy’s so lovely in this role.
But seriously people: Where did those old shoes come from in the middle of a marathon?

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 4 of 10 - One of the most endearing things about these two is what good communicators they are. The sides are kinda cute: puppy+cat hyung romance. Love that for them (and me).
Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 8 of 10 - Sprite & First are so crush confession confused first-time tentative adorable. First got himself such a sweet troubled little puppy. What’s gonna happen when he finds out the big lie?
Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 6 of 14 - Jeff and Alan are best boys, i see a glimmer of hope for Way. Omegaverse mpreg possibility confirmed. Trash watch happening here.
Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 4 of 12 - I finally figured out that it’s the alternating voiceovers that bother me with this show. It gives it a Japanese manga feel, but I’m not wild about that in my Thai BL. Doc being jelly was fun, tho. Tiny confessions and secret smiles do make me happy. It’s sweet. I’m liking it better this week.
Bake Me Please (Mon Gaga) ep 5 of 6 - The conflict seems very manufactured. Okay, yes that's normal in BL, but you know what I mean... more than normal. Honestly? I’m on Guy’s side. Screw Shin, and not in a good way.
Middleman’s Love (Fri YT & iQIYI ep 7 of 8 - I really don’t like it that Jade has to be cruel to Mai. And Mai cruel back. ButJade is sweet when he’s a calm and smiley and shy. Boyfriend ep next week
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Pisces of Me ep 18 of 24 - I just found this one extremely boring, I didn’t really enjoy any of the characters. And I think it might be incest? Ugh. 4/10
Night Dream (Sat YT) ep 2 of 6 - It’s a pain to track down and I really didn’t like the first episode so… DNF
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 6 of 10 - It’s slow and sweet and fine but not great. Lovely little kitchen back hug. Not sure about the boy from the past. The mom character gave me serious PTSD.
Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 4 of 8 - No ep this week for JBL reasons.
It's Airing But...
Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. I DNFed this at ep 5, and frnakly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.
The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.
7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if safe.
Beyond The Star (Weds iQIYI) 8 eps - House of Stars meets Boyband. I was NOT impressed with ep 1. Been told I shouldn't bother.
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - I find this series more fun to binge, so I'll be doing that when I have a spare day. Crazy work load right now so no idea when that will be. (End of year is a bear for me.)
Behind the Shadows (Korea movie) - This is a historical I was interested in, but I've been told they kill the gay so I'm OUT.
Dead Friend Forever (Thai Sat iQIYI) - horror, meh, tell me if it's worth my time?
