to get closer

When Sasuke sees Naruto for the first time in three years he feels like he can't breathe. He's weak with the feeling of longing wreaking through him, calling him to get closer. So he does. He jumps, landing right in front of Naruto catching a glimpse of his eyes - wide in surprise - yet still so, so blue.

He wraps his hand around Naruto's neck, inhaling the scent that has been plaguing his days since the day he left. Sometimes running through endless woods, looking for endless clues to his brother's whereabouts, he catches a whiff of oranges and his world comes crashing down. Naruto still smells the same.

He gets closer still a second later, leaning in, because oh how he missed him. Naruto inhales sharply next to him, and Sasuke feels the motion with his chest. Gods, he's in trouble.

But also. When he manages to blink open his eyes, they land on a guy who looks astonishingly like himself. So that's who's playing his role, who replaced him in Team 7. Has he replaced Sasuke in Naruto's heart too? He can't bear the thought. The rage which he now recognizes as stupid jealousy rises in his chest, turning his guts inside out. Good. Rage is an emotion that's familiar. Comforting, even. Better than that longing ripping through his heart. So Sasuke lets the feeling guide him.

His hand reaches for Kusanagi.

I feel like Naruto would not be really good at realizing that someone likes him, loves him, wants to be with him.

Personally, I view him as a sensitive boy, that had to grow up too early in an abusive environment. Kids like this learn to feel people's moods and emotions as a survival tactic.

Yet he had no one to teach him love. He doesn't know what it looks like.

So while he would know perfectly how Shikamaru's steps sound like when he's frustrated, or how Sakura's shoulders sag when she's upset, he has no clue what to make of Sasuke cooking for him. Coming over to just do nothing together. Bringing him stuff. Looking into his eyes like that. Staring at him when he thinks Naruto is unaware - Naruto notices, of course, always.

He's puzzled but he's happy that Sasuke is with him at last. Even as friends, he wouldn't DARE to wish for more.

So after weeks of panicking, and wondering, and not understanding he just decides to enjoy it while it lasts.

And then Kakashi-sensei asks if they're dating already, and Naruto laughs it off at first but then-

He thinks. And wonders. And hopes.

When sasuke’s hand brushes against his own he gets goosebumps.

He used to love sparring with anyone since it was the only type of physical confort he got

He can’t physically stand people touching his hair. He almost thinks it burns

Used to cry himself to sleep thinking about those kids with parents in the playground.

He gets extremely uncomfortable when people try to hug him if he doesn’t know them. One time he punched someone so hard their eye was purple for a month

Tsunade and Orochimaru ends up as drinking buddies after the war and casually talking about how they drunk fucked in the past and Naruto who happens to join their drinking session is like WHAT. Astonished blond guy seek out Sasuke to tell this story and bond over the trauma when Sasuke says nonchalantly yeah Orochimaru is the type of drunk that brags--I heard that the best head he's ever gotten was from Jiraiya and Naruto is lowkey dying over the fact that the sannin are literally a throuple.
