I wrote a 2,500 word info dump on this creature, so there's a tldr here in case you have better things to with your life than read spamton worm lore. otherwise, hope you enjoy if you're interested.

THE TDLR:

Spamton, but he represents a computer worm as a darkner. He's some sort of 15 foot long fluffy parasitic alien centipede worm creature, and the Sweepstakes worm represents what his species' parasitic hatchlings look like after they slowly consume and kill their host from the inside out. Spamton is the last of his species left after they were exterminated (representing a computer worm being downloaded onto a computer and eventually fought off). He wears a disguise to hide his worm status, so that he may interact with the general public without being reported and killed by an antivirus. He can't create anymore copies of his species without them being found and killed, too. He meets the addisons, and uses them to get free food. Hopefully Spamton's strangely philosophical, and sometimes cannibalistic, comments don't make them suspicious. Hope he doesn't form any emotional attachment that would be severed if they found out what he really was, haha

Information on actual computer worms:

In the real world, computer worms are a type of malicious program that can cause a variety of computer-threatening issues. Once a computer worm tricks one into downloading it onto their computer, its main goal is to created exact copies of itself in order to infect other computers while remaining active on already infected systems. Usually, the computer user will not notice that their computer is infected until the worm's rapid replication eats up the system's resources and slows or halts other tasks. Unlike viruses, worms only need to be initiated once, and can self replicate without additional action from the user. In fact, some types of worms can spread to computers without the user even interacting with them. Both instant-messaging and email worms use the contact list of an infected user in order to send copies of themselves, with the ILOVEYOU worm being a very popular example of one.

The malworm species:

"Malworm" is the name given to the species of darkner that represents computer worms in the light world. "Malworm" is the general species name, but each type of computer worm represents a different subspecies. All members of a subspecies are identical copies of each other, as is the nature of computer worms. Spamton is part of the (fictional) "big shot" subspecies, named after the false promises of a better life they tell their victims in order to lure them in.

Spamton's species:

Physical characterics & hunting:

The "bigshot' malworm is physically characterized by long black and white fur, asymmetric pink and yellow pupil-less eyes, red circles on their cheeks, an almost addison-like snout, and six pairs of legs. They use a set of retractable fangs in order to infect their prey. This particular subspecies has the distinct ability to copy any audio they hear, and replay it back. This ability is what they use to hunt prey, typically isolating one program at a time to infect or consume. While they try a variety of strategies, they seemed to have an infinity towards falsely promising a better or more successful future if their prey "takes the deal," and follows their stolen voice. A particularly common phrase was "now your chance to be a big shot," which became the species's name sake, although it was most likely lifted from popular advertisements at the time. Once the victim is successfully isolated, the malworm attacks. They typically infect their victims by suffocating them until they're unconscious, then use their fangs to infect them. The same process is used if the malworm is simply looking for a meal, rather than a potential host to infect.

Infection process:

These parasitic malworms start their life inside of a host. The amount of eggs (pipis) placed inside any given host is dependent on its size. Incubated by their host's body heat, the malworms hatch fast, but spend several weeks before finally emerging. During this time, the host is typically unaware that they have been infected, the only evidence being a bite mark, and general discomfort. Inside, the hatchlings stay connected to their host by a string attached to each one's nose. The host slowly becomes weaker as the hatchling(s) eat them from the inside out, eventually dying just before the hatchling(s) emerge. The infection works to soften internal tissue, making it easier to consume. Both the loss of internal organs, either partly or fully consumed by the hatchlings, as well as the infection causes the host to die.

Life cycle:

These malworms spend their first few weeks inside of an infected host. The freshly hatched start at about 3 inches long, and their bodies are completely white, aside from their eyes and red cheek markings. The string attached to their nose keeps them tethered to the inside of their host as they feed and grow. Once a hatchling reaches about 9 inches in length, its string falls off, and it breaks free from the now dead host. A small spot of fur on the top of its head becomes black at this point, and it continues to spread as the malworm grows. After leaving its host, the juvenile continues to grow in length, gradually gaining more black coloring, which is perhaps as some sort of camouflaging that was not needed inside of a host. The malworm will continue to exponentially grow until it reaches the adult size of 9 feet, where its growth will become greatly slowed. As members of this species grow, they consume any audio they hear, allowing them to use it once they as an adult, in order to hunt other programs. While they normally display social behaviors, such as taking care of their young and building nests, Cyber City's extinction efforts caused them to become more solitary, favoring survival over socialization.

Eating habits:

hatchlings are quite fragile while inside of a host, and are only strong enough to consume the softened flesh of an infected host. Once leaving the host, they usually continue to feed on the corpse, before eventually setting off in search of new food sources. While they show a preference for raw flesh, they become capable of eating essentially anything edible by the time they're adults. All darkners gain magic from consuming "food," but the amount they gain from any given type of food source varies. Hence the specific dietary needs of the worms until they can gain magic from other sources.

Observed behavior:

There was a drastic change in behavior for these malworms as Cyber City fought back against their invasion. They were initially observed creating nests out of a unique material comprised of their saliva and plastics (this material is a light-blue in color, and acts like a sticky glue that becomes solid and strong once it dries) where they would preserve food, protect hatchlings, and sleep together. As their population declined, however, they displayed more solitary behavior, refusing to build nests and leaving hatchlings to find food on their own. The malworms were very evasive, occasionally seen slinking through dark alleyways, jumping across roofs, and squeezing through tight spaces, using their black coloration to blend in with the dark shadows of Cyber City. Their intelligence was unknown to the Cyber World, as not much time was actually spent observing them, thanks to the danger of getting attacked. They were fast and efficient, but ultimately a losing match against the Cyber World's best defenses.

History/extinction:

The bigshot malworm arrived in Cyber City by new year's 1997, and had been eradicated (to the city's knowledge) by December. Their initial arrival was the most brutal period, as there was nothing to stop them from spreading. However, drastic measures were quickly taken in order to eradicate the species as fast as possible. The Cyber World's darkners were instructed to quarantine inside their homes, and, of course, avoid any suspicious voices trying to lure them into empty alleyways. Anti-viruses paraded the streets, armed to kill any malworm they possible found. Juveniles were caught and released with GPS trackers in order to find and burn nests, killing any malworms inside, and leaving the rest without shelter. After that caused the worms to stop building nests, even a few adults were captured in order to test the efficiency of different killing methods. Since most darkners were staying indoors as much as possible, the malworms struggled to find anything other than the occasional maus as a host, who could barely support even one hatchling, severing their abilty to quickly reproduce. Desperation made them, well, desperate, and therefore easy to kill. by 1998, there was no more malworm spottings or attacks. There's was zero reports of any malworms in decades, and Cyber World was considered free of them since.

Spamton's orgins:

Spamton was like the rest of his species, born during the tail-end of their short-lived reign. He was one of the last born, hatching inside of a maus that was barely big enough for one hatchling, and was the last of his kind to survive to adulthood. Since the malworm population was in single digits at this point, darkners were feeling safe enough to start spending more time outside, albeit still very cautious. The increase in activity leading to more thrown out food that Spamton could feed on, rather than try to risk hunting when he was already far from adult size. He wasn't able to get much magic from people's leftovers, but he was small enough that he managed. He ended up meeting one of the already very little remaining members of his species, although it was short lived. Unfortunately, staying together was a liability. Only spared by his smaller size making him harder to find, Spamton learned to hide as every last malworm was executed by an anti-virus. By the time he reached adulthood, he was the only one left. He spent his first few years as an adult exclusively hiding, feeding on food scraps, and hunting the occasional lonesome maus. He created his own nest hidden deep inside the Trash Zone, although he's the only one to fill it. As much as he wanted to, Spamton couldn't re-populate his species, as any new malworms would be killed as soon as they were found, and there would be a much more thorough search to make sure his species was gone for good. He could still create hatchlings, but it would be a waste of resources and energy. See, they can technically hatch without a host, but never reach past that 9 inch stage, as the string never falls off (what the Sweepstakes worm looks like). Spamton spent his first few years hiding alone. However, as he grew larger, both hiding and finding enough food were getting more difficult. While his species is considered adults by the time they reach 9 feet, which is when they can start infecting victims, they still continue to slowly grow until they reach about 15 feet. Since the life of the rest of his species was cut short, Spamton was the only one to have ever actually reached maximum size. It was becoming harder to both hide and scavenge enough food, and Spamton needed a solution.

Spamton's Among Us Impostor Arc:

Spamton's solution was a costume/disguise that would hide his malworm status, and finally allow him to interact with the public. Living alone on the streets wasn't very fulfilling, especially considering that he was part of a normally social species. He's essentially had no social interaction his entire life by this point. Since Cyber City had fully opened up since the malworm extinction, Spamton was able to consume a massive amount of audio compared to any other of his species. He understood English, and was even been able to form his own voice, albeit distorted and aided by foreign voice clips.

Spamton's Costume Description:

As for Spamton's physical disguise, it's a cobbled-together, yet sturdy enough, mess. The interior shell consists of various plastic pieces threaded together by that same nest material that his species can make. Over the blue-ish plastic mess of the shell is an off-white dress shirt and shoes, and black pants, which are glued directly to the shell with nest material. Since Spamton didn't see any situation where he'd need to change clothing, gluing it to the shell and securing it in place seemed like the best option. His pink tie isn't an actual tie, nor is the collar of his dress shirt, as some modifications had to be made to fit the long fur around his neck through the top of his costume. His oversized blazer, little white flower pin, and off-white mittens are the only things not glued down. All his clothes shared the commonality of being stolen from various sources, though. In his disguised form, Spamton stands about 5 feet tall, not including his long tail sticking out the back. He appears a little wide on account of having to fit about 8 feet of worm in the shell's torso. His plastic mask is fairly simple, being fastened to his face by a strap, and the lower jaw is connected to elastics that move it with his own mouth. He uses fake glasses to make his eye colors look like unique lenses, and added his own red cheeks to the mask. Since there's no way one would mistake some "normal" guy with two legs and arms as an extinct species of malworm, Spamton figured he wouldn't need to make a unique face for his disguise.

And so it begins:

Spamton pretended to be a spam program, hence the rather on-the-nose name he came up with for himself. While spam programs aren't hated or feared nearly on the same level as malworms, they aren't given a stellar reputation. They also don't have a specific type of darkner that represent them, making it the perfect role for Spamton to pretend to fit. Despite his best efforts, he's wasn't particularly good at social interaction, let alone trying to fit his fake role. While his appearance itself wasn't particularly scary, his stiff movements and glitchy-sounding voice were off-putting to most programs. He didn't have much of a filter while speaking, often being loud in volume and mentioning whatever strange topic comes up in his mind. Despite his inability to socialize, just being able to interact with other darkners felt like a huge step up from slinking around dark alleyways, even if he was still mostly ignored. However, it still didn't solve the issue of finding food. While being disguised allowed him to dumpster dive for food without having to hide, the lack of dexterity makes it borderline impossible, which defeated the purpose of wearing it in the first place. This is where he got the idea to actually try selling things, like an actual spam program would. He didn't own any of the identification required to even attempt getting a real job, however, selling stuff on the streets could make money, and money means food. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at it. Whatsoever. He had the confidence, but none of the skill, and most darkners ignored him or walked away. He would need some help if he was going to go anywhere with this idea.

The Addisons Summary

The first addison that Spamton met was Blue. Spamton's frankly pathetic attempts at attempting to sell things caught their attention, and they got the idea to help him. Blue proposed an idea where Spamton would come eat lunch with them, and they would help teach him how to be a proper salesperson in turn. He agreed, of course, enticed by the free food, which was his ultimate goal. As the two got closer, Blue started to invite Spamton to more personal stuff, and he met the other addisons. Although they weren't as overly enthusiastic as Blue, the didn't mind his strange remarks too much. Spamton still believed he was just in it for the food, but he was genuinely much happier now that he had people to talk to. Fortunately, none of the addisons have figured out what he really is. Yet, at least.

the one thing i will never understand is swap aus that include swapping the characters’ personalities entirely. like i guess have fun but isn’t that boring to you ? it’s the same story... the same or very similar dialogue... the same conflicts and the same resolution to those conflicts.. nothing's changed except the faces of the main characters - kind of. because when redesigning the characters for a swap au people tend to default to simply making them look as much like the person they've been swapped with as possible. which! is fun and is probably pretty good design practice. like seriously do whatever you want who cares i just feel like swap aus are underutilized in a lot of ways. i find them way more interesting as a way to test one's understanding of the characters and the story at hand

like the premise of my Deltamess au. put noelle in kris's shoes while kris gets put in noelle's. what happens? how do they respond to certain events? what choices do they make, and what new events occur as a result of these choices? noelle and kris are two very specific kinds of people, and their core personalities will never change. but what traits might show more prominently? which are repressed? when presented in entirely different circumstances, how do their various friendships form and how do they change over time?

part of why i set up deltamess the way i did is because i wanted to look at noelle and berdly's friendship. i've talked before about how its foundation is one of proximity, and i keep citing mae and bea's conversation about that same thing at the end of night in the woods but i'm so serious about it. like literally i wasn't going to do anything with this au until i asked the same question mae asks bea: "Do [I] think [they'd] be friends if [they] weren't, like, stuck together in the same town? Like [they] were stuck together in [the spelling bee]? Like... uh... is this just... what's the word?" "Proximity?"

and it's going to take at least two multi-chapter fics for me to answer that :')

like isn't that more fun? there's so much more room for creativity. you can tell a whole new story, and it's still with the same characters we all know and love. it's just that different people behave very differently in our favorite established scenarios, and perhaps they create problems that don't exist in canon. or maybe they solve problems faster than the original main characters do. i'd like to see more people's interpretations of This sort of thing, y'know

in all seriousness eldritchrune seems really interesting, where did the idea come from? did it all just come from a "what if deltarune was darker and more lovecraftian"?

And thank you! Honestly, it just kinda grew out of redesigning characters to be all huge and scary, which is always fun. Folks kept wanting to see more designs, and that snowballed, and eventually I realized that I needed a narrative to build off of to actually justify my design choices. So it just formed organically from that!

I would really like to do another big canon-based fan project once the full game is out, but until we actually get more canon, it's just been a lot of fun playing with this story in the meanwhile!

This takes place after the events of the game. Susie, Noelle, Kris and Berdly have all started to change, either an obvious way or not. Change takes time. Sometimes you regress. Or sometimes you remain at a certain stage and that's fine for you. Whatever, that's life.

Not pictured: whenever they all had a fight

I started drawing the image set (4 images) 2 weeks before it was finished, so I didn't get to add the other HomeTown kids as cameos (Jock in Summer, Catti & Tem in Spring, MK and Snowy in Winter). I wanted more scenarios but I just blew up what I had to fill up the canvas more. But the hands in the original image block out so much anyway.

Scenario Descriptions

As some people have noticed, each Lightner has a season assigned to them.

Winter - Noelle

Spring - Susie

Summer - Berdly

Autumn - Kris

I chose Winter for Noelle. I like to imagine she can handle the cold. In the game it says she stands in front of the fridge in Sans' shop often, and she probably likes cool air. I took that at face value. But, in the game, it's Autumn and she wears a sweater-vest like thing. And some people said she might be staring at the fridge in Sans' shop because they print Missing Children on milk cartons (Dess).

At the very least Noelle seems to like the pretty snow things in the Cyber World. It's fun to imagine things about characters, isn't it? It also makes writing very tough.

Anyway, Noelle decided for her part of the trip, she wanted to see a snow festival somewhere outside of HomeTown. Kris and Berdly suggested snowboarding or skiing. Susie agreed to snowboarding (because it's close to Skateboarding...?). I didn't really get to draw a snow festival in the end... oops.

Extra scenarios I wanted to draw:

Ice Sculpture festival. Noelle sees some creatures and thinks about how some of the more artsy sculptures remind her of Cat Petterz 2. There is a Drinks Bar made of ice.

Snowball fight. Susie is defeated immediately purely due to having a larger hitbox. Kris is the smallest and good at dodging (or are they just good at deflecting?). Berdly comes up a bunch of mid-tier tactics, all of them fail but the last one works so he considers himself a winner anyway. Also Snowy and Monster Kid are here too. Snowy's head is a snowflake shape, each 'leaf' is loaded with a snowball each, and they are used like a chain gun/snowball machine gun like RATATATATATA...

Ice skating. Noelle is tries to teach Susie. Kris watches from afar while talking with Monster Kid and Snowy.

Quiet moments in the snow with friends watching the sunset. Just as a reminder I don't ship anything (I only explore friendships). So all the relationships/crushes that are in the game as of Chapter 2 are still intact, I haven't changed that part.

Do you think Susie and Berdly will become better 'friends' after Deltarune? At least in the timeline where you don't Kill Berdly, anyway. I think they could have some good slapstick moments. Honestly anything involving Berdly is great, unless you hate Berdly.

Anyway in the first photo, Kris, Susie and Berdly have decided to snowboard/ski down from the top of the mountain. Noelle is on a break. Susie is impressed by the scenery. She's with her friends, she's getting better at snow boarding. She's happy. They take a break together to stare at the mountains as the snow falls and melts on their noses. They don't mind the cold.

Kris takes the photo to preserve the moment for Susie. Also because if Berdly and Susie ever have a fight they can all stare at this photo together and remember the good times.

The gang reunite with Noelle at the bottom of the mountain. It was Noelle's idea to take the photo. Noelle also says she 'wants more photos with "everyone else"'. That doesn't happen, because if you look at the background, Berdly has fallen on his arse. They wait for him to travel down the mountainside, just to tell him they caught his epic fall on film.

The stickers on the snowboards don't mean anything - it is rental gear, the rental shop has a lot of duplicates of the same design. The stickers are just for the customers to tell them apart from other customers with the same design... I wanted to put funny numbers like 420...

On another trip down the mountain. It's just a cool shot of Kris. Berdly's about to stack it again. I'm sure Berdly isn't that bad at sports, but he's just not going well today. Despite the protective gear and snow goggles, you'll notice something about his glasses later.

Do you think Susie and Noelle also stacked it on this hill? Do you think Susie kept asking everyone to go up the mountain "one more time" so she could ace this hill? How do you think Berdly felt about having a bad day with Sports?

Clothes Part 1

For the clothes, Kris and Susie are wearing rentals. Originally they were both going to be wearing red. But I thought Kris wearing blue like their Dark World outfit was nice. I was thinking of giving Kris a custom outfit but I thought "Kris has some money after Deltarune but not THAT much money, so I'll give them a rental outfit". Actually none of these kids should have the money for 4 trips in a single year, OR a sabbatical, but I decided to stop thinking about that because I just want to see blorbos enjoying themselves.

Also I had to give SOMEONE overalls, so Berdly gets his custom bought overalls with a green neck warmer. Even though snowboarding looks cooler, he chooses to ski this trip. Noelle is also skiing. They're the

Berdly's glasses are botched. I wonder what happened? Don't you think it's a good metaphor for something? You should think about what it means to you, because I can't do that for you.

Anyway, what's Kris doing? Sometimes you banter with Berdly, sometimes you help him build his dream body in a snowman. Originally the beak was going to be broken, and the whole statue was botched, with Kris snickering at Berdly.

But I decided Kris is so tired from snowboarding the previous day that they've decided to just chill out the day this photo was taken.

Susie snuck away past the trees. She misses Lancer. Kris and Noelle find her and insist on take a photo next to her masterpiece.

Noelle - food pic! It's not a very interesting food item, though. Some gimmicky food cart selling shaved ice with dark colored sprinkles that look like the hairy mountain behind them.

It's actually seaweed sprinkles. Kris eats moss in the Dark World, but they're not sure how they feel about seaweed on shaved ice. There's other syrup flavors in the cup too. It just tastes like an average savory-flavored sweet.

Susie was starting to feel cold, so Noelle and Kris gave her a beanie. But Susie loses the beanie somehow, shortly afterward. Susie, running low on cash, asks if she can share with Berdly. Once purchased, Noelle sees them sharing the shaved ice and wishes she offered to share first.Kris regrets buying a whole serving at all.

Clothes Part 2

Berdly: He gets surprisingly neutral clothes. Also I thought earmuffs would match the ear things he has in the Dark World. Also a bird needing earmuffs but the human not wearing them is hilarious to me.

Kris: I like it when people paint Kris' Dark World scarf as a pink scarf with purple shading, or vice-versa. But it wasn't obvious enough so I just went for the other fandom interpretation of "stripy scarf". By the way, I think it would be REALLY COOL if the scarf was actually a sweater. Like, when you take off the sweater but you didn't actually take it off completely, so it's just stuck around your neck. Anyway that's why Kris has a Stripy scarf and grey mitts. I also took some time to think about what would look 'gender'. But I'm no good at fashion. I'm going f*cking insane over Kris Dreemurr.

Susie is wearing the same pants here, but she has thermal wear underneath. She just gets the cheapest warmest jacket possible (the type that old people all seem to wear).

Noelle (see below): I'll talk about it more in the Spring Anniversary image, but I have a hard time thinking about what kind of clothes Noelle would pick. Overall I wanted to give them all neutral/normal looking clothing.

Photo 7 & Photo 8

Last part of the trip. They have dinner at some place that gets lots of pictures and reviews on social media. Also, I was going to draw them drinking mulled wine. I have always heard of stories of people going on ski trips and drinking mulled wine at a random house. I've never drunken mulled wine. But the imagery of being red faced and merry in the snow seems very warm to me.

I decided not to draw them drinking alcohol because if it turns out any of these Lightners have bad experiences/memories of it, I'd be pretty sad... By the way, in Australia you can legally start to drink alcohol at 18. Please consume alcohol safely. Anyway, now the Lightners are just waiting for food in this picture

The cat and rabbit in the background are dating.

The main picture is the last photo of the trip. Noelle's expression seems flustered, doesn't it? Originally Noelle was going to be tipsy and "OH SUSIE YOU CAN'T LET MY MOM SEE THIS PHOTO" but I changed my mind with the alcohol. Now she's happy Susie's taking a photo, but also been caught off-guard. Okay but she's holding a cup, she could totally be having a sippy. The reality is that I drew this picture but I still don't know. I'll let you decide.

By the way, just to let you know, Berdly is doing most of the driving in these trips. Kris can drive a little but isn't able to drive internationally yet. I don't know about Susie and Noelle (I don't think Susie could have afforded the lessons, but I do like the idea of Susie driving Kris around in college due to REASONS). If it turns out I'm totally wrong... whatever, I don't care, it's not shown in these images anyway so you can assume they took public transport.

I think the most "drama" is in the Spring set of images.

Art Notes

First off let's look at the thumbnails.

My handwriting is passable here. Usually it looks like squiggles. The main ideas are pretty much the same, but you can see that I changed Susie's hairstyle back to her default hair style. Also Kris was originally laughing at Berdly's broken snowman.

Most of these thumbnails (background photos) were drawn in Cartoon/comic style - to save time... more on that later.

Row 1 (see below): For the main image, I drew 2-3 passes (Thumbnail, rough sketch, maybe extra for clothes, then line art). Berdly looked awful at first so I redrew him a few times. Actually I'm not so happy with Susie's snoot but since this was the first canvas, I was worried about time and didn't want to deal with her snoot blocking out Noelle, and I wanted Susie's face to still be in frame... so I left it.

Row 2: Left - without color filters, Right - with filters. (It might not look that different... oops)

Since I use grisaille, it's kind of like shading with black... nothing wrong with that if you want that look, but if I want the colors to pop more, I add a gradient map...

Row 3: Nothing special. Just two layers of gradient maps... I literally just downloaded whatever the popular gradient map packs were, flicked through a bunch and picked what I liked. The first one is set to overlay, the second one the instructions in Japanese roughly says "Set this gradient map to ~20% Color" so that's why I've set the layer to those settings.

Row 4: Left most Susie - this is the original painted image with the color gradient maps, before Tone Curve and Level Correction.

I wanted to imitate the coloring in photos. The polaroid photos I've seen, the first thing I think of is "Flash was used so all the highlights are blown out", and that the black shadow areas are never #FFFFFF amount of dark... so that's why, in the Tone Curve, I lifted the leftmost (axis at 0) up a notch. Anyway you can see the effect is lower contrast by a bit. Instead of using a Tone Curve you can also just use some layer effects (e.g., Exclusion layer blend mode or whatever). It doesn't really matter just do whatever you feel like doing, I can't stop you.

The next step I added Level correction (just to play around, honestly). Actually this added back some contrast. Whatever, I just did what looked nice...

Row 5: This is the layer composition.

Characters (By the way Berdly looks great without glasses).

Lights (1 layer of boxes of random colors, then I duplicated, blurred, and set to glow/light blend modes)

Trees with snow clumps

Smog (used some smoke/cloud brush set for this)

Main background flats

When I do paintings like this, the characters are always painted in grisaille. I have a few posts with WIPs on this blog showing grisaille stuff, but anyway I'll talk about it in the Spring Anniversary image details. If you want to see that, and also what the hell is going on in the Spring photos, you can donate to my Kofi to reach the goal.......

A nice thing to note about the Anniversary artwork as a whole is that the characters are mostly close to the camera, so I can just wing the background (i.e., I don't have to draw buildings or architecture TOO detailed). This is great because I was in a rush!

For the remaining images, I knew they were going to be blurred. So I just drew the characters in cartoon comic style that I use. This means for the characters I can just grab the palette I already have (don't have to spend any time picking colors).

The backgrounds were still (roughly) painted.

Row 6: Some images without the filters and layer effects. You can see the characters don't fit well into the background without them...!

Set - Lineart and flats.

Multiply layer - shadows for the Set above. I have 2 shadow colors which are just light and dark purple (you can see my palette in Row 6).

Details I really wanted to add but skipped them due to time shortage:

Blurring items (e.g., far away background images, whatever is 'not in focus, and so on...)

Drawing other Lightner characters into the scenarios!

The Tumblr Jerk Tournament Bracket...

...has dropped. I put all my love towards these assholes into it.

Seeded according to uhhhhh "my brain thinks these sources allign in same genre or medium, and if not, then it's because I think the characters have similar themes in some way in my brain". Contestants all chosen by YOU (+ Palpalymo, for diversity /j).

Polls: TBA. Once I finish making them all and draft them, I'll make an announcement.

There's no right or wrong criteria for who to vote here because trying to establish that via Tumblrpoll is useless. You can vote for someone because they're your favorite, because their propaganda swayed you, because they look cool, or because they're the meanest. Just think: Do You Want Them To Emerge Victorious? Or are they such an ass you'd delight in seeing them get swept?

I highly encourage taking the time to read some propaganda. These guys have lots of love behind them.

And last but not least, be nice to other people on the internet. These polls may be for asshole characters, but that gives you no right to be an asshole back. Anything attacking the fans or fandom of a character will get taken out via my sniper team.
