What I imagine Spamton NEO would theoretically look like in the Wormton AU

Wormton doesn't actually know that NEO exists. He's never been inside of the mansion and never picked up the phone (Wormton himself would've have even been alive whenever the phone person tried to call canon Spamton, and whatever malworm found it would've rather chewed the cord off than listen to them). Still, I'm sure that he would absolutely want NEO if he knew what it was and how to use it.

Explaining myself under the cut:

How NEO works

In my personal interpretation, the NEO body is incomplete. The lightner abandoned it, so its code was never finished. Since it exists in the dark world, when a darkner (Spamton) attempts to use it, the body relies on that darkner's code to finish its own, causing NEO to respond differently to whichever darkner loads themself onto it. For example, my sneo design takes from the dormant bird-like attributes left over from Spamton's code before he turned into a puppet, resulting in exaggerated claws, fur, and feathered wings (this is definitely not just an excuse to make sneo a big bird beast).

For Wormton here, NEO took from his parasitoid wasp elements to create his translucent wings. I considered making him wingless, but I think they help change his silhouette and make him stand out. The green wires attach to his tail instead of his back, as I imagine he'd be crawling around on the walls a lot during the hypothetical bossfight. I put him at the same scale as puppet spamton to regular sneo, which puts Wormton NEO at 75 feet long. He's gained some fluffy antennae to mimic NEO's original wings, but lost some fur in order to show off the now metallic parts of his exoskeleton. His body is chunkier than regular wormton and the triangular chest opening has been changed to resemble the ribcage-like shape of wormton's "hearts" (aortic arches, what earthworms have). I decided I'd rather not deal with ten colors in one pallete and stuck with the pink and yellow parts from the original NEO design.

If Wormton NEO did exist, I imagine that he'd once again attempt to take Kris's soul once he realizes that he's tethered to the mansion. Ignoring that NEO just ceases to exist without the wires, I imagine that Wormton would want to use it to control the city. He's now big enough that he could probably cave in a building if he wanted to, so I don't think Cyber City would have a great time if this thing was let loose. With his newfound power, Wormton would no longer have a reason to hide, considering he could crumple any antivirus like a can. His disguise is more of a finger puppet than a costume at this scale, anyways. Perhaps he'd keep the addisons alive, picking them up and treating them like dolls while he begins to infect and destroy the city. Or, the addisons, alongside everyone else, evacuate to castle town, leaving him to starve alone in an abandoned city.

While NEO doesn't get to exist in the Wormton AU, Wormton does draw himself as NEO once, imagining a larger version of himself with colorful fluffy wings. It's much more pleasant that what he would end up with.

WORMTON AU MASTERPOST

"Spamton G. Spamton is just a normal spam program making ends meet by tricking darkners into buying his garbage. At least, that's what he tells a blue addison he accidentally wins over, as well as their friends. He won't fall for their genuine words and pure compassion, though. A salesman and a manipulator are one and the same, and neither can trick the other.

…right?"

AKA: Spamton, but he represents a computer worm as a darkner. He's some sort of 15 foot long fluffy parasitic alien centipede worm creature, and the Sweepstakes worm represents what his species's parasitic hatchlings look like after they slowly consume and kill their host from the inside out. Spamton is the last of his species left after they were exterminated (representing a computer worm being downloaded onto a computer and eventually fought off). He wears a disguise to hide his worm status so that he may interact with the general public without being reported and killed by an antivirus. He doesn't meet the addisons until after the extermination of his species. Hope he doesn't form any emotional attachment that would be severed if they found out what he really was, haha

This AU exists mostly in the form or art and text posts, but I am currently working on a fanfic about Wormton and the addisons, which will start being posted to ao3 once I finish the entire rough draft.

Sometimes I post art and some thoughts about the Wormton AU fic I am working on. I won't be publicly posting it until I finish the rough draft of the entire story. I am maybe halfway? I'm doing my best, but I'm also dealing with life's responsibilities and making other art. I have no idea for a release date yet, but I don't plan on giving up.

Chapters 1-10 are in a first-draft state with no dialogue. Once the entire story has reached this point, I will finish each chapter one by one and post them as I do. As previously mentioned, chapters will be released on ao3 once finished. As of 04/22/24, it is: 102k words long

Worm in the Apple (the Wormton AU fic) is currently at 100k words now! I am currently working on the the "identity reveal" part. Turns out that killing someone in "self defense" and eating their corpse isn't the best look. I'm sure this will have no effect on the plot and that the addisons will be happy to know that the man they let inside their homes is a parasitic man-eating mimic haha

(Wormton AU) Somehow I went from putting a worm on a string inside my Spamton plushie's head to a 150k+ word fanfiction about the last living member of an entire extinct species of Spamton-themed giant predatory parasitoid computer-worm centipedes who is wearing a DIY skin suit (he has social anxiety)

Molting process (shedding the exoskeleton, including hair)

Being fed a tracking chip hidden in a meat cube (in reference to Cyber City's efforts exterminating the BIGSHOT malworm (Wormton's species) during the 1997 invasion)

Top: muscles inside of the malworm's mouth allow its teeth to fold and receed inwards, allowing it to close its mouth properly.

A malworm's "teeth" are not actual teeth; they are parts of the mandible and are regularly shed alongside the rest of the exoskeleton.

Bottom: The aortic arches form the malworm's "hearts." They assist in moving blood around the body like a normal heart would. Malworms do not have a auditory heart beat.

The malworm lung structure is divided into many small connected chambers that run along the body. Should one of the pseudo-lungs be damaged, the tube connecting it to the rest of the respiratory system will close up until the damage is repaired, allowing the malworm to survive a punctured "lung."

The gizzard is a part of the digestive system. It allows the malworm to digest difficult materials, including the metal, plastic, and other inorganic aspects of their darkner prey.

The prominent, squishy circular markings at the corners of the malworm's mouth are scent glands used to mark territory. Malworms that live together will affectionately rub their scents on each other.

The proboscis acts as a long hollow spear that malworms use to attack prey, inject venom, and inject eggs. While malworm hatchlings use their proboscis to slurp up liquified tissues (since they aren't born with jaws), adults prefer solid foods. The proboscis resembles a tongue when relaxed, but a malworm can extend it up to half its body length depending on the species.

The hair of a malworm is incredibly similar to a spider. While not nearly as sensitive as a spider's hair, their hairs can feel the environment and detect vibrations and movement if close enough. It is also hydrophobic and keeps the cold-blooded malworm warm.

Malworms have scopula pads (dense specialized hairs) on the bottom of their feet that allows them to stick to walls.

The malworm's body parts, including the head, can reattach as long as the central nerve remains attached. If a body part is completely severed, the malworm will be able to regenerate it. A malworm can even completely regrow a severed head as long as it is tube-fed through the remainder of its throat. They are incredibly resilient, but far from invincible.

The malworm's nervous system acts as several "sub-brains" that allow the malworm to continue preforming basic functions (breathing, eating) even without a head.

The aforementioned fanfiction is not public yet. I plan to have a rough version of every chapter finished before I start sharing chapters on ao3, and I currently only have 76k words written.

(ACID THEORY)

He got deep-fried

In my personal version of Acid Theory, the battery acid is a catalyst rather than a reactant; it simply sped up a process that was already happening. Spamton's "puppetification" was a supernatural consequence of his connection with his benefactor on the phone. Before the acid incident, he had already been experiencing progressively worse symptoms. He had peeled off so much dead skin from his hands that the plastic growing underneath was fully visible. Spamton's decaying body and inability to make profit without his benefactors strings drove him towards the NEO body, where the swatchlings witnessed him kneel before it, praying for hours at a time. Due to Spamton's trespassing in the basement, inability to pay rent, and visually declining mental state, Queen saw the acid river as both a way to get rid of him and maybe get him to relax. After all, the acid isn't supposed to dangerous and the river is only a few feet deep. No one bore witness to the disfigured amalgamation of plastic and flesh crawling from the acid river and its trash filled shores. Ball joints strung with tendons, enamel teeth growing from a yellowing plastic face, wet glassy eyes, amputated feet molded into fake shoes—a breathing, living puppet. Swatch assumed that Spamton somehow transferred his soul to a new body—the alternative was both horrifying and surely impossible.

(This is a remake of my first acid theory drawing (not on my tumblr) from a little over 2 years ago. Both were done with the same paper and markers.)

These are really good options! Spamton's backstory and appearance always felt like mad libs to me; everyone interprets it how they choose and adds in their own ideas, which are usually reflected in their designs of the character. A sad wet wipe, a goofy bastard, feral animal, severely mentally ill criminal, sleazy snake oil salesman, this man fills whatever character niche you want. One could probably make a bingo of every Era of spamton's life (addispam, big shot era, homeless trash puppet arc, sneo, and hell, even ex designs) and easily find enough headcanon material to work with. It's awesome. It's been two years please let me escape the brainrot please please please please please

i got the idea to make a bingo thing for spamton fan designs after my friend showed me some bingos for other deltarune fan stuff :] basically i gathered a bunch of canon-divergent/not confirmed/otherwise notable* design aspects i've noticed in spamton fan art these past years and put them in. feel free to fill it out if you want!

addendum: this is mostly intended for your interpretation of spamton during or post ch2, which is why some things like "not even a puppet" are in there (it's p heavily implied that he wasn't a puppet at some point but is now)

did i rig it so i can win? technically yes but technically no

i wanted to arrange the card to have common traits that i saw together in bingo-winning lines, but i soon realized that it was impossible to get everything to fit together that way. especially with contradictory squares like tall and microscopic or puppet-exclusive features being in a line with the "not even a puppet" square

i couldn't fit in everything i thought of either. i actually wanted to have "100% canon compliant" on here cause i thought it would be fun. i think the people who stick really close to his canon design are just as interesting as everyone who does their own spin

idk i think this is all interesting! the deltarune fandom is unique in that everyone has to interpret character designs from a small size, so people almost Have to diverge from whatever may have been intended for a character, and that results in a lot of different interpretations. it's definitely helped me strengthen my own sense of character design as someone who used to be kind of a hardass about fan art accuracy
