My latest inebriated HC is that Bosmer pioneered the use of snail mucin in skincare, but for some obvious and unsurprising reason the Altmer get all the credit.
In Summerset, refreshing cold cucumber and snail facials are all the rage. The Bosmer prefer letting the snails do their thing on a rock or something and scrape the trails of mucin into jars, mixing them with honey and animal fat to make a deeply moisturising face cream. For face masks, the mucin cream is mixed with a bit of cold yoghurt and charcoal, and applied with a jade roller.
Most other races find snail skincare to be kinda gross. The Bretons in particular don't know why you're letting live food slide across your face, but they can't talk with their calf collagen skincare routine. ~Tal

visiting my (older) gay cousin and my aunt and unky…..
my aunt is chronically ill (not sure of the specifics) so i can only imagine she’s doing better if she’s ready for company — my dad said she was able to sit up on her bed unassisted a couple of weeks ago and that’s actually a big moment for her

Snail Mucin: The Hidden Gem in Skincare Routines
Tumblr media
Snail mucin is a natural powerhouse, loaded with glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, and glycolic acid. These components work together to hydrate, exfoliate, and rejuvenate your skin. Picture it as a slow and steady journey to better skin.
Its superpower lies in hydration—snail mucin acts as a moisture magnet, leaving your skin looking plump and dewy. If you're dealing with dryness or aiming for a radiant glow, snail mucin could be the missing link in your skincare routine.
Don't be put off by its origin; embrace the slimy sensation for a smoother, brighter, and more resilient complexion. Let snail mucin crawl its way into your daily skincare regimen, and unveil the hidden secret to healthy, beautiful skin.
What Wonders It Can Do to Your Skin?

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
I mainly got it for its hydration and rumored effects to treat hyperpigmentation but i was fooled!!!!!
It does nothing for hyperpigmentation lol. From what i remember, studies show that there is little to no effect on hyperpigmentation with snail mucin.
The hydration was okay, I used it when i had inflamed and dry eyelids. I think other products would have done better jobs. I finished the whole bottle months ago but i do not plan on purchasing it again. Honestly, i think COSRX is too pricey; you can find cheaper options elsewhere. Apparently, their cleanser is nice, but i haven't tried it yet.
Currently, i am using the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Milk (the white bottle - not the brightening one). It contains 4 types of hyaluronic acids and i prefer it over the COSRX snail mucin.
Price comparison in Canada (CAD):
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence | ~25$ / 100mL
Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Milk | ~20$ / 140mL

Review of Skin79′s Natural Snail Mucus Soothing Gel
Skin79 is a well-known Korean brand that started in the 90s and became popular for its BB creams. Their Natural Snail Mucus Soothing Gel is designed to soothe stressed skin and promote clear skin and a fresh complexion. Key ingredients include 1,000ppm  of snail secretion filtrate (anti-aging, moisturizing, maintains elasticity, nourishing), hydrolyzed collagen (anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, aids in collagen-production), aloe extract (anti-aging, moisturizing, lightens blemishes and reduces acne, healing, reduces scarring), barbary fig extract (nourishing, antioxidant, replenishing, hydrating, skin protecting), bamboo extract (soothing, adds vitality, anti-inflammatory, removes dry skin, antioxidant, healing, hydrating) and cucumber fruit extract (hydrating, moisturizing, soothing, cooling, nourishing, softening). This soothing gel retails for between $7-9 USD, you can get it here for $7.65 + shipping.
Ingredients
Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Hydroxyacetophenone, Arginine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Polysorbate 20, Snail Secretion Filtrate (1,000ppm), Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Opuntia Ficus-Indica (Barbary Fig) Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris (Bamboo) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen
Tumblr media
The gel contains 100 grams (3.52 oz) and has a slightly musky scent that usually is in any snail product. It comes in a squeeze tube so it’s easier to take with you as opposed to many other gels that come in tubs.
Tumblr media
It's a thick, clear and typical soothing gel.
Tumblr media
It's very hydrating and relatively thick.
Tumblr media
It's super moisturizing once massaged into the skin and very refreshing.
Recommended use is to apply a proper amount on the face and body frequently, then gently pat in for better absorption. First things first, this does have an artificial fragrance so it's best to steer clear if you have issues with that. Otherwise, this product is a great option. It has a nice smooth texture and is very easy to massage into the skin (even my mom liked it and she doesn't like anything with snails in it lol). It works well on sunburns and dry patchy skin as well as really irritated, parched skin. Apart from the fragrance, there are no other irritants in this gel so it should be safe for a majority of people to use. I like that it came in a tube, easier for travel or taking it to the pool with you if needed. Definitely recommended for dry, irritated, and parched skin as well as skin with lots of redness.
What I like: this gel is really moisturizing and soothing and really does a good job of nourishing the skin. The ingredients are great and I liked the packaging a lot as it's more convenient than the big 300 ml tubs. What I don't like: the addition of artificial fragrance.
Pros:
Moisturizing
Soothing
Nourishing
Gentle
Calming
Refreshing
Nice ingredients
Great packaging
Convenient
Cons:
Fragrance
Would I buy again?
Yes
Rating: 8/10

COSRX Advanced Snail Peptide Eye Cream
When I bought this eye cream, I was looking for an affordable product that provided moisture without being too heavy as I'm prone to developing milia around my eyes. This eye cream was lightweight and it did absorb quickly which was great, but I don't feel like it moisturized very well. My skin would feel dry again an hour later and I would have to reapply the product. Sometimes, I would try to layer the product multiple times but it would still only provide temporary relief.
I was looking forward to this product because it had such great reviews online, but it did next to nothing for me. It didn't sting my eyes despite the dryness which was great, but I didn't feel the need to repurchase it after it ran out bc of how little moisture it provided me. In fact, I ended up buying a completely different eye cream before I even finished the bottle.
