i know they’re quite different and idk if they even hang out that much, but ive recently binged the whole sword af series and i’ve fallen in love with the way damien will appreciate a joke chanse makes that others overlook, or the way chanse guides damien sometimes with the dnd stuff since he actually has lots of experience with it. just little moments of respect like that really strike me- and it shows that even if people are different, you can still find a way to connect to them & make them feel appreciated <3

When did you start watching Smosh? - Oh gosh, probably 10 or 11 years ago? I remember the original food battles and Mari hosting Smosh Pit Weekly. I was a big fan of the Ian Is Bored videos

What's your favorite channel between main/pit/games? - Currently I think it's pretty split between Games and Pit. The content feels a bit more fun at least at the moment, but I'm excited to see where Ian and Anthony take the main channel. Classic tho, I was always a fan of Smosh Games

Who is your favorite castmember? - Gotta say Angela, although I am a bit biased bc I'm a long time Starkid fan as well lol

Do you have a favorite Smosh video? What is it? - A lot of the stuff Damien was in when he first joined falls in this category, esp anything with Shayne. Damien & Shayne content will always be S-tier shit to me, they're such a good pair

What is your favorite series on Smosh Pit? - Try Not to Laugh is 100% the top favorite, but there's so many other good ones that have happened throughout the years. Put It In My Mouth and Show w/ No Name are two really good ones as well

What is your favorite series on Smosh Games? - dear lord, it would be quicker to list ones I wasn't a fan of. Summer and winter games ranks above everything honestly. I miss it so much. I'd love to see the new cast participate. Directly after that come GTS, Maricraft, Damien and Shayne Show, Smosh and Order, and What're Those are all tied for second. I'm also incredibly excited for Sword AF, it's gonna be so fuckin sick (but it doesn't feel fair to rank it just yet)

Fave Smosh song? - The Assassin's Creed 3 song has been living rent free in my head since 2013 dude. A lot of the classics are kinda stuck in my head tho tbh. Dixon Cider, Assassin's Creed 4 Rock Anthem, Smash Rap. Girls Are Gross was also pretty neat

The amount of digging, stalking and over analyzing that required for yall to now say “it was obvious” and “we were right all along” is one of the reasons they never went public with their relationship before actual marriage, just like Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez getting engaged and Keith and Becky habersberger out of nowhere telling they had a baby.

I’ve been a fan of smosh for like 12 years and the shipping (yes, I know they said they don’t care, but even if they said to stop yall wouldn’t anyway) and nitpicking every single interaction between cast members (I’m not even gonna get into the fanfics and inappropriate comments) were why I kept my interaction with the fandom to a minimum.

Im happy they’re married, really. I’ve been happy for other influencers before. The issue was never denial. I did wish it was a prank because I knew this exact response was going to happen.

This feels like fans were trying to out them when they weren’t ready. If they truly felt safe making the relationship public, they wouldn’t have gone to lengths they did to hide it. Poor Courtney probably had an engagement ring that she couldn’t wear because of fan reaction. I mean, I remember seeing proof of them together through reflections on a glass! It isn’t normal.

A similar situation has happened in a fandom before. Remember when fans were speculating about a Malec wedding in the shadowhunter finale? Finding every single piece of evidence on social media, bts footage, etc? And in the ending the characters got married? But you know why that wasn’t weird? They were fictional characters, made to entertain us, with story arcs. No actual person was at stake.

And you know, I love smosh and obviously this rant isnt directed towards the fans who are just surprised and happy for them (which I am too, congrats to them), but it still bother me.

Publicly, they were coworkers in a comedy channel who made jokes, played characters, played games, etc. Smosh has never been about romantic relationships between cast members and it saddens me that the fans made most of it about shipping when they have so much more to offer.

The point is, we are not entitled to information about their lives and speculate about it. Too bad this can’t be a learning experience because congrats, yall were “right all along”.

I just watched smosh the sitcom and haven’t seen any discourse about Ian being amazing in it. I know people tend to praise other cast members (being professional trained actors) but being as unbiased as possible Ian really stood out not only with physical comedy but also making the whole cast change with just one improvised line. Sorry for dumping my opinions here lol

And you know what was my favorite part??? The Krungle Kevin kiss they teased!!! He was allll over the stage, his stage presence was PERFECT. And they said he didn't do all of that in the rehearsals so it was all improved in the scene. He's just THAT good. His chemistry was incredible with both Amanda and Shayne I was literally holding my breath waiting for the kiss 🫠🫠

Anyways i agree with you we should talk about Ian's acting more cause he's fuckin amazing and im never gonna shut up about it.

first off- i think its interesting the way the word 'parasocial' has evolved into being a somewhat negative descriptor on social media/in gen z culture in general, when by its utmost definition it simply describes a connection between a person and someone they do not know personally. although with the boom in social media use in recent years, the boundaries between fans/admirers and their idols/content creators/etc. are becoming more and more blurred as we have access to people's lives almost daily through things like insta stories or tiktok or whatnot- especially when its the goal of big companies to market that closeness, to give us a sense of personal connection through the many ways we get to see, hear or read our fav's thoughts. its very easy to get absorbed into the thick of it and i understand how much of fan behaviour can become obsessive, hence i suppose the negative association with the word 'parasocial'.

i suppose i am parasocial to the extent that i admire, support, and engage with content produced by smosh and the smosh cast. i know here on tumblr we use a lot of tumblr-specific language to talk about the smosh cast/our favs in any fandom really, which includes lots of loving rants and phrases like 'in love with him' or 'that is my mother' lmao both of which i have definitely done, but i'd like to think we all engage in jargon like that humorously. in truth i try to apply the logic of 'just some guy' to most of the favs i have in any fandom, especially when i find myself disagreeing with an opinion of theirs or disliking certain content- at the end of the day, they don't know me, i don't know them. they post content for free, i can turn it off if i don't want to engage with it. the end. (although there definitely was a time in some earlier fandoms i've been in where i didn't apply logic like this, and all i'll say is it left me emotionally exhausted and feeling like i was ranting angrily into the void of the ethernet- which i was- i'm glad i'm older and can see the ways in which that would have been unhealthy)

that being said, within smosh or the smosh cast, i sometimes find traits that i admire about the people who work there- be it a fashion choice or the way they choose to speak up about something, or even a niche game they enjoy that speaks to my nerdy soul- so in essence i'm not a fan of the people in their entire being (because i can't be, i don't know them!), but rather of the collection of traits they embody/show on screen that i relate to or want to embody myself. in that way, i love and admire the smosh cast.

Smosh Twitter (and tumblr for that matter) has such a black and white view on the situation. They think anyone who still likes damien must think he is completely innocent or if you dislike him you want him to die. Like there is a middle ground yall. I can like him while acknowledging that he screwed up and be dissapointed a bit. Its not that hard to understand.

I did notice that, too! I had some Damien fans block me because I think they assumed I hate him? I think with anything, we have to be aware of the flaws in what and who we enjoy. Even our favorite people in content and in life aren't perfect, and you should be able to critique something you love when it deserves it without fully hating it.
