Six Makeup: Masterpost and Links
Hey y'all! Finally finished up a long promised post: all of my makeup suggestions for SIX cosplayers (and/or fans who just want to do some cool makeup looks)!!! I've been actively working on this post for about a year now and compiling makeup for even longer, so I'm happy to finally finish it. I'll get into more details in a moment, but first things first:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll include all the links below, but for easy access I made a handy-dandy Pinterest board. It is sorted by costume (sections for each queen + alt costume) and you can clink on any pin to be taken directly to buy it. I would recommend that people look there for a more visual/easy look at the recommendations; I realize pure text can get a bit old!
Some notes: - All of these links are to US sites, with a variety of US and UK sources. Most of these brands ship internationally and/or are available on Amazon as well. - I tried to factor in a large variety of material colors/shades, skin tones, and financial budget. You'll find a mix of US and UK-based brands, mainstream and smaller brands, drugstore versus more upscale, and some brands owned by women of color. - There's a broad range in the companies listed in terms of their ethics, animal testing, politics, etc. I'm including as many companies as possible to give people as many options as possible, but some of these I wouldn't personally financially support. I would strongly suggest that anyone do their own research into the brands listed. - Many of these products may be harsher on skin than your typical products. I'd suggest considering any potential allergens and skin testing any product before use, and using your regular base (foundation, blush, etc) to minimize the number of new products. (If you have sensitive skin or are worried about toxicity, I'd suggest Skin Deep for toxicity information and the FDA site for information on common irritants) - The vast majority of the makeup on this list is products that I know Six actors use. However, just because someone in Six uses it does not mean it's necessary to achieve a great look - there are many great alternatives for just about any product, and what works for a specific actor may not be what works best for you. (I'd also note that the vast majority of queens use some fairly cheap makeup, so you never need to feel like you have to pay more to get "stage accuracy") - Factor in where you're intending to use your products. Six uses some extreme stage makeup and truly crazy lighting; if you use these products with the exact same intensity in just about any other context, it will be way overkill. Convention lighting tends to be harsh so you can usually go a bit heavier there, particularly if you're intending to do any on-stage performances. But for everyday use or a closet cosplay to go see Six or an outdoor meet-up with natural light you will usually want to go much softer. (Photoshoots are a whole other can of worms and really depend on specifics) - Some of this information is taken from a series of Instagram stories Erin Ramirez did. I'm still writing up a post of everything she suggested, but I'll link it here when finished. - And, finally, have fun experimenting and finding what works for you!
Links to recommendation posts and inspiration: Glitters/shimmers Palettes, eyeshadows, and other accents Lipsticks (coming soon) Erin Ramirez's recommendations MAC partnership link Eye look inspiration (my Pinterest board)

for a little bit of context, he’s a heywood fictive. but he’s been pretty cool from day one and we’re all chill with him. i mean. gestures at vix sleeping on top of him basically. but he is still not exempt from source jokes because sue me it’s funny lmao
there are six of us aso fictives total—me (frank), vix (dave), theta (hal), ainsley (heywood), emile (chandra), and walter (walter). we have fun!
and dont ask me to explain the relationships this house is a fucking nightmare /j /ref

costume reference hunt: Anne Boleyn!
below the cut, you will find an assortment of references as well as an analysis of what i could find for Anne Boleyn's outfit from Six the Musical !
This one was definitely an interesting hunt. But, we can do this !
Let's get to it !
Tumblr media
( thank goodness pinterest has a lot of good images on it - )
This is a great image of the full costume - it's multiple parts, which makes it a bit harder than a full dress or something of that sort. It's a two-piece outfit, with a good amount of accessories.
The bodice is a simple cropped top, with looped strips on the sleeves and bottom hem. The fabric (pictured in better detail below) is black patterned with holographic green. The bottom hem as well as the sides of the strips have silver circular studs on them.
The choker has the same studs lining it, but is only black, and has the iconic " B " charm on it !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that the skirt has eight or so panels. They're all identical, and the squares progressively get larger (three sizes in total). It reaches mid-thigh, and she wears shorts underneath (described below). She also wears fishnet tights (which are a different design depending on which production you want).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank GOODNESS this q&a was done, because it provides amazing looks at the details - including a deconstruction of the bodice as well as a closeup look at the sleeves and a description of the shorts Anne wears under the skirt !
Tumblr media
Her hair is mostly down, but she has two little buns on the top of her head - accompanied by little spiked cuffs :0 very fancy
She has different earrings depending on the production, so that's really up to artistic interpretation !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The boots are black heeled boots, embellished with crystals in green and silver (pictured above).
~~~
and, that's the look !!
Hope this helps !! ^^
Gabriella Slade talk team liveblog
Earlier today during the Gabriella Slade V&A talk @six-costume-refs and I got talking. This is a slightly edited (for spelling and clarity) version of that chat because us figuring out costumes is mostly chaotic.
The actual notes on the talk can be found here
Like I can think of all her usual design elements and it could look really cool but also wild?
Something like bedknobs?
Period but like crazy and intense with unexpected details
Yeah? It'd be really interesting to see
Everyone remembers how they were introduced to six
Mine was instagram doing something good for once and showing me the dluh performance they did right before WE opening
Mine was seeing early buzz about it sort of coincidentally? And then I got into it at some point during the 1st tour
yeah okay I sort of got into the show Aug 2018 but obviously couldn't really engage much with it from the US until Sep when the cast recording came out
Let's talk about the six costumes
Finally we are talking costumes
I learned from a podcast (the Let’s Stay Together podcast) that some Japanese undergraduate medical programs only last six years and then the student can start practicing as a doctor after graduation. So it’s possible Hatori could have gotten his degree at 24. So the mystery of Hatori’s medical career is solved.
I wish it was that simple (and so, apparently, do the half a dozen people who have tried to argue with me) so let me lay it out for you.
At 27 he’s young for a doctor, but it’s not impossible that he would be fresh out of med school or what have you.
The issue I have with the timeline as it’s presented, at least in the reboot, (I can’t remember if it’s the same way in the manga and 01 and quite frankly I don’t have the stamina to cross-ref) is that he’s wearing a white coat in his flashbacks with Momiji’s mother.
Momiji is at least eleven years younger than Hatori, and I think we can safely assume he’s between five and six years old in the flashbacks where his mother’s memory is erased. That puts Hatori between sixteen and seventeen. I.e., a high school student. I.e., not a licensed medical professional by any stretch of the imagination unless he was some prodigy who graduated and went to college insanely early, which he wasn’t, because he went to school with Ayame and Shigure.
Even if Momiji was older, say between seven and eight (which he wasn’t), I still don’t think there’s any way Hatori would have been qualified enough to be walking around in a white coat and practicing medicine.
So either the timeline is bungled or he’s a teenager cosplaying a doctor.
Looking for someone to commission a cosplay piece from!
Tumblr media
General idea of them! I would obviously provide more refs and there is a interview with him in said outfit too. So you can see it in action. I basically have the other parts of the outfit planned out, but the bat wings I am stumped on. It’s not like I can get them from the existing costume they sell. I really want this look in particular for my concert in September!  Especially since I won’t be doing Halloween this year...I usually splurge on an outfit. Bonus if you are able to do the top as well. Right now I am looking for prices and opinions. I’ve got six months to get everything together.
Hiii! Currently making Howard's costume, and I'm looking for more info on how the skirt closes AND the skirt pattern. Any help would be SO appreciated!
Hey! I have this post about some of the construction and layers.
As far as the closure goes, it’s basically an extended tab. Here’s Cassie Silva’s both open and closed:
Tumblr media
And then the closure method goes on the overlapped section. The closure method has varied between Velcro and snaps, but you could also try magnets. (They also previously had a different closure set up using zippers for a bit, but I would not recommend it)
If you use magnets or Velcro make sure to get a stronger strength, and/or match the strength to the materials and construction you’re using. And snaps will cause stress to the vinyl so if you do use them I’d suggest using the black base as discussed below.
And this isn’t necessary, but for my own cosplay I’m planning to do either Velcro or multiple rows of snaps just to give myself some sizing range which Six has often done as well.
You can see two different placements of snaps used here:
Tumblr media
Left is UK make, with a single snap in the middle of the waistband. Right is US make (the early 2022 style) with two black snaps on either side of the trim. This is one way the US has accommodated for potential minor fluctuations in waist measurement, like I mentioned above.
Also, note that while the black trim continues the studs do not - this is so they don’t get in the way of the closure or make things uneven or bumpy.
You also may wonder how Cassie’s skirt is staying up even though it’s not closed - there are snaps on the inside lining of the waistband that correlate and snap into snaps on the back and side of the leotard.
————————
The other things that are worthy of note are exactly where the closure is located and the backing of the closure. Here’s a bunch of examples of how that’s varied:
Tumblr media
The exact placement of the closure has differed. Early iterations included the mic holster attached on top of the waistband tab (shown on Vicki Manser’s UKT costume, top far left) and the waistband closing in the front (shown on Didi Romero’s ANAT costume, bottom far left). But the current-and-definitely-best way is to have the mic holster on the main case, with the waistband tab attaching over in a way that nestles it right next to the holster. That keeps seams minimal and everything nice and stable. You can see that current system on the three furthest right photos on each row.
Finally, the base color. Originally the tabs on both sides would be a continuation of the rest of the waistband materials, just the same pink vinyl and trim (but again missing the studs as noted above). More recently they have switched to a pure black base on the space where the tab overlaps, most likely to use a more stable/strong material. It’s easiest to see that difference on the bottom row - compare the continuation of pink on both sides of Didi’s closure (far bottom left) versus the black gap that can be seen on Aline Mayagoitia, Abigail Sparrow’s CAN, and Audrey Fisher (2L-R, bottom row).
————————
For patterning I’ll refer you to @lightleckrereins, who has already been working on a post about that after just recently making her own.
Hopefully that’s helpful! If you need any clarification or have further questions, feel free to drop me another ask.
Yes, I'm dipping my toe into the wide world of adoptables! I've got six lovely individuals here who are looking for a good home, Pokejinkas whose species and general themes were chosen at random. We've got a Masquerain sniper, a Dewott detective, an Alola form Vulpix princess, a Torracat magical girl, a Forretress welder, and a Donphan businessman. Of course, for some of them it may not be their day job and they could just be cosplaying. ;3
All right, now for the rules for prospective buyers.
YOU CAN: - give them any name or personality you want (the debut image of them can be thought of as posing for a photoshoot, which does not necessarily reflect the personality you may want them to have) - make alterations to their designs, minor or major - use them in role play, comics, stories, or anything - include them in NSFW material with adults if you set their age as an adult (by default, every design is over 18 in my mind)
YOU CANNOT: - claim that you designed the character unless you have made substantial alterations to their design - include them in NSFW material if you set their age as being a minor, or with characters who are minors if they themselves are not a minor
I WILL ALLOW BUT I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU DIDN’T: - alter the design to the point where they're completely removed from the original design (unless it's to transplant them from the context of Pokejinkas into an original universe, in which case I understand as I've done that with a lot of my fandom-based OCs) - resell the character without substantial alterations to the design or for a higher price than you originally paid (if you must resell the character, please let me know who the new owner is for reasons stated below this section) - buy them all at once (I would like to give multiple people chances to buy a character, after all, and I can't do that if one person snatches 'em all up)
I may still wish to throw them into one of my Pokejinka story projects as cameos, but only after they’d be given a name and personality, and I will give credit of ownership to the person who now owns the character.
Every design up for sale here is priced at $15 USD. Please contact me via email or messaging if you're interested. Purchase will give you creative rights and ownership over the character you adopt, as well as a watermark-free flat ref. (I unfortunately didn't think to make a watermark-free version of the finished images which is apparently standard practice with adoptables, I have learned from this and will take that into account for the future.)
Commissions, if you’re interested~♪ Redbubble store, for retail therapy~♪ Patreon, for extra support and exclusive goodies~♪
Masquerain, Dewott, Vulpix (Kanto and Alola variants), Torracat, Forretress, and Donphan © Nintendo/GameFreak Pokejinka designs (until purchase) and artwork © PuppyLuver Studios
On happier random thoughts than the last post: we’re thinking about trying to get a commission of sister-in-law’s sole survivor for her for Christmas, since the brat* goes and buys everything Fallout in existence before anyone else can buy it for her and there’s nothing left. (Even Operation; we thought it was genius when we saw it, because we knew she hadn’t yet, but also didn’t buy it because it was over six months until Christmas at the time and--you guessed it--she saw it and bought it on the spot about two months ago.) The problem, tho, is that it’s going to cost much more than what we’d spend on anyone else in the family (probably more than we spend on each other for anniversary and Christmas combined). Also, getting references of her SS (who I think is mostly just done to look like herself, but that’s another thing) is going to be near impossible. She doesn’t post anything online of her chara. She just cosplays herself-as-SS and buys every inch of Fallout merch she lays eyes on.
Even if I had the money and the refs (neither of which I think I will) I still would have to find an artist in time, with a style I think she’d appreciate. I wouldn’t want too hyper-realistic portrait-y, since I think she just plays “as herself” and that could get odd as a commission, but I don’t know what sort of stylized/chibi/etc version might work. IDK. Probably nothing will come of it, but still something to think about.
5 winners from the final week of the NFL season
Tumblr media
Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images
In the final week of the regular season, Jaire Alexander’s meaningful penalties and rushing god Ryan Fitzpatrick: both great.
The 2019 NFL regular season is officially over. This means the march to Super Bowl 54 has officially begun. It also means, mercifully, there will be no more Bengals, Jets, or Washington games to muddy our national broadcasts.
In honor of their selfless decision to leave January to the good teams, the NFL’s contenders spent much of Week 17 playing like losers. The Patriots, needing a win to clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs, collapsed in upon themselves against the Dolphins. The Chiefs, in place to leapfrog New England, traded the lead with the Chargers before finally putting away their division rival and securing the conference’s second seed.
The Packers, firmly in the race for the NFC’s top seed, got roasted early by a David Blough receiving touchdown — especially notable because Blough isn’t a receiver (and is, barely, a quarterback). They needed a furious comeback and a game-winning field goal from Mason Crosby as time expired just to escape with a win. The 49ers and Seahawks went down to the wire, and a literal inch of field, to complete the NFC postseason picture.
In the middle of that chaos, the Titans and Eagles claimed the league’s final playoff spots in what turned out to be comfortable wins. And while they may have gained the most from Sunday’s action, they weren’t necessarily Week 17’s biggest winners. Instead, those honors go to ...
It wasn’t: the Browns, who finished 2019 with their worst loss yet
Cleveland didn’t have much to play for in Week 17. The playoffs, once a shining beacon of hope in the preseason, were officially out of reach. All that was left for the Browns was pride and a potential resume-building point in favor of embattled first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens.
This was not nearly enough to carry the team to victory over the previously one-win Bengals. Cleveland squandered an early 7-0 lead and gave up 162 rushing yards to Joe Mixon en route to a 33-23 loss.
Baker Mayfield, who ended 2018 as one of the league’s hottest quarterbacks, finished his season with 21 interceptions and would have led the NFL in picks if not for the continued existence of Jameis Winston. Kitchens lasted exactly 16 games as a head coach before getting fired.
Conversely, Andy Dalton went from getting benched on his birthday to staking the Bengals’ claim as Ohio state champions in what will likely be his final appearance in tiger stripes. An often toothless pass rush got to Mayfield for six sacks. Mixon also deserves credit, not just for a career-best performance, but for innovating this “accidentally assault a ref” postgame celebration.
and now, on to ...
Week 17’s actual winners
5. The Bears, who might as well give this rugby thing a shot
Chicago and Minnesota — the latter locked into the NFC’s sixth seed and thus starting a handful of backups — put together a stirring throwback to 1920 with their meaningless Week 17 showdown. The first 30 minutes of play saw the Bears take a 11-6 lead into halftime despite neither team scoring a touchdown.
The Bears broke that streak in the third quarter, but they kept up the “dawn of football” cosplay in the process. David Montgomery scored his team’s only touchdown in a play that wouldn’t have been out of place in the New Zealand All Blacks’ highlight reel.
smh pic.twitter.com/L5TvTzKPp8
— Arif Hasan, nondenominational holiday supporter ⛄ (@ArifHasanNFL) December 29, 2019
Chicago held off a Kirk Cousins-less Vikings team 21-19 to even its record at 8-8 on the season. Mitchell Trubisky, in a performance endemic of his disappointing third year as a pro, needed 37 passes to throw for 207 yards without finding the end zone once.
4. Jaire Alexander, whose mistakes somehow sparked a Packers comeback
Danny Amendola has always been one of the league’s more underrated pot-stirrers. The journeyman wideout is a chippy presence on the field. A first-quarter touchdown throw to quarterback David Blough only increased his volume.
Amendola’s flexing was nearing all-time non-Patriot highs in Week 17 ... until Alexander sent him to Suplex City.
yes, it was a penalty. but i still admire the form on the Jaire Alexander belly-to-back suplex pic.twitter.com/xp5QCG7lkk
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) December 29, 2019
That suplex drew a flag and gifted the Lions seven yards, but Alexander earned every one of those yards with his perfect form. While Detroit would go on to score a touchdown at the end of the drive, Amendola wouldn’t have another catch for the rest of the game. The next time he’d have his name called on the broadcast would be after getting flagged for a late hit on another Packers defensive back he’d been jawing with — this time, safety Kevin King.
This, somehow, wasn’t the only penalty on Alexander that seemed to have a net benefit for the Packers. Alexander was shadowing Chris Lacy in man coverage without any safety help when he tripped while tracking down a Blough deep ball. Rather than let Lacy get away for what would have certainly been a breakaway touchdown, the second-year corner grabbed the Lions wideout and intentionally drew a pass interference penalty.
Jaire Alexander with the "welp, i'm screwed" PI here. saved a touchdown, too pic.twitter.com/CvqcS0HD6l
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) December 29, 2019
Detroit’s drive would stall out soon after, ending with a 56-yard Matt Prater field goal instead of a touchdown.
Those points were crucial for Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers, on a day when he struggled to connect with his wideouts downfield, found his rhythm in time to lead the Packers back from a 17-3 deficit with 19 minutes to play. Mason Crosby’s 33-yard field goal as time expired sealed a 23-20 win for the visitors and a first-round bye in the postseason.
More importantly, it made Green Bay 2-0 against the Lions in 2019 when the Packers led, technically, for zero seconds of game time.
3. Shaquil Barrett, officially better than Warren Sapp (in one specific way)
The Buccaneers ended 2019 in the most Jameis Winston way possible: on a pick-six. Bruce Arians summed up the finale in the most Bruce Arians way possible.
#GoBucs coach Bruce Arians on Jameis Winston throwing a pick six to end the game and the season with a loss in OT. “It smells as bad as it could possible smell and it’ll smell that way for a long time.''
— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) December 29, 2019
In the midst of that lesser Lynyrd Skynyrd song were other reasons for optimism. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin emerged as the league’s top wideout tandem, and Breshad Perriman balled out once injuries took each of them off the field. Young cornerbacks Carlton Davis and Sean Murphy-Bunting took the first steps necessary to repair one of the league’s worst secondaries.
But no Buccaneer had a better year than Barrett, who came to Florida on a one-year, $4 million contract and gave Tampa Bay roughly $20 million of value as a pass rusher. The former Broncos rotational piece — he had just 15 starts in 61 games in Denver — went from afterthought to Defensive Player of the Year candidate as the keystone of Arians’ defense.
He had so many sacks in his first four games (nine) it prompted SB Nation’s own Stephen White to write about how absurd he was three different times in the first month of the season. On Sunday, he passed Sapp as the Buccaneers’ all-time single-season sack leader by bringing down Matt Ryan in the second quarter.
That wasn’t enough for Barrett. He’d add two more sacks to bring his season total to 19.5. That’s 5.5 more than he’d had in five total seasons as a Bronco. It’s also enough to tie for 13th-most in a single season in league history, joining names like Bruce Smith, Robert Mathis, and Mark Gastineau among players with at least 19 sacks in a season.
Barrett may have come to Tampa on a prove-it deal. Keeping him there is going to cost the club significantly more.
2. Christian McCaffrey, the NFL’s third-ever 1,000/1,000 man
Unlike the Buccaneers, there haven’t been many moral victories for the Panthers this fall. Cam Newton played in just two games, and while Kyle Allen was able to rally Carolina to a 4-2 start, that lack of talent manifested in a 5-11 season that led to longtime coach Ron Rivera getting fired.
There was one bright shining star in the Panthers’ dim constellation, however. McCaffrey claimed his place as one of the league’s best dual-threat tailbacks by rushing for 1,387 yards and hauling in 1,005 receiving yards from Carolina’s depressing lazy Susan of underwhelming QBs. This 17-yard reception — buried in the latter half of a 42-10 loss to the Saints — launched him into the eight-digit stratosphere.
Only two other players in NFL history have matched that feat: Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk. The former was an All-Pro on a team that won three Super Bowls. The latter won 2000’s MVP award and is now a Hall of Famer.
Pretty good company to keep!
Carolina stands on the precipice of a rebuild. Team owner David Tepper will have to hire a new coach and make a choice when it comes to retaining former MVP Cam Newton or letting him go. Other expensive veterans like Dontari Poe and Greg Olsen could be on the chopping block as well.
McCaffrey will be the sun around which the rest of the Panthers’ solar system rotates, though.
1. Ryan Fitzpatrick, officially the Dolphins’ 2019 rushing leader
The Patriots’ problem isn’t that they missed out on a first-round bye because they lost as a 17-point favorite Sunday afternoon. Their problem is that they lost to a team whose top runner was a 37-year-old quarterback.
Trades, injuries, arrests, and general ineptitude left Miami’s year-end rushing stats look like this:
Holy crap.
That ground game FitzMagic was on full display Sunday. His scramble on first-and-goal in the third quarter pushed the Dolphins out to a 17-10 lead.
His ability to keep plays alive — he was only sacked twice against a defense that came into Week 17 ranked fifth in the NFL in sack rate (8.4 percent) — gave the Dolphins just enough latitude to hold off the Patriots’ comeback efforts and drive a final nail into the AFC East champion’s bye week hopes. New England will play in the Wild Card Round for the first time since 2009, and it’s at least partially thanks to a Miami team whose top running threat was an aging dropback passer.
