Northern Ireland sets a goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050: Stormont - Belfast's Parliament Buildings – has approved new ideas for Northern Ireland to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The revised aim resulted from discussions on a law to address climate change, which was enacted by a vote of 50 to 38. The Green Party, Sinn Féin, SDLP, and Alliance backed the initiative, while the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and Ulster Unionist Party opposed it (UUP). Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots had previously advocated for a target of decreasing emissions by 82 percent by 2050, but the more ambitious net zero aim was approved. “We already generate nearly half of our electricity from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro. The path to net zero energy sets out how we will increase that to 70% by 2030, significantly reducing our reliance on fossil fuels." Said Gordon Lyons, Economy Minister. “We will support the development and delivery of a range of renewable technologies, including use of geothermal and biomethane sources.” “Northern Ireland will no longer be the only region in these islands without a net zero emissions target. CONCEPTUALIZING THE ISSUE AND ASSESSING TYPES OF ACTION

The civic action issue i chose was “LGBT nondiscriminatory Protection and rights”, I chose this issue because i know a lot of people who have been discriminated against due to who they love. This is an issue because most Americans are not fully straight, and most think it is shameful to like someone of the same gender, this not only leads to unhappy lives, but also discrimination and cruel acts of harassment. In order to address this issue, I believe the government should look into people who think it is okay to harass someone because they are LGBTQ+, and people should become more aware of the ongoing issue.On twitter I am following Gay Civil Rights, LGBT Rights Watch, LGBT Rights NI, lgbtNOISE, and Karl Hayden, because all five of those blogs are news updates about the LGBT community, and the politics of LGBT. lgbtNOISE recently posted an article titled “ Sinn Féin Launch Revised Gender Recognition Bill “, I agree with this decision, because this bill will allow transgender people who are 16/17 years old to determine their personal gender identity, this action is a step forward, meaning less suicides, less depression, and less lost teenagers who feel out of place in today’s society.This is a vital step towards acceptance and a more open-minded community!.

Hi, Linda here. I agree that somehow this is linked to Brexit. Referendum was June 2016 and PH supposedly hooked up with MM mid July 2016. Despite the 'out' vote many have tried to derail oiur exit one way or another and now, four years on, it is still being blocked. I am not political enough, or clever enoiugh to speculate what is going on here - who gains if we leave without the trade deals? Who gains if we cannot resolve the border issues in Northern Ireland? 1/2

Linda contnued. Are some people trying to scupper the Good Friday agreement and put us back to square one with a divided Ireland and all the troubles that came with SinnFein and the IRA? That was always linked by many to the US and it is possible that peace between the Nationalists and the UK government was not what certain factions wanted. There are so many possibilities and we are never told what is really going on, just fed what they want us to believe. 2/2
