Hello everyone!
Today we are going to meet one of the most enigmatic visitors that crossed paths with the Brigade. A young San'layn who was encountered wandering near one of the Brigade's outlying outposts. After being confronted, the pale visitor was swiftly transferred to be questioned by one of their own - Octavian. No memories, no obvious purpose, no ulterior motives.. that is all the Crimson Overseer himself managed to learn from the unusual guest, a blank slate and a total mystery. Only time will tell what will become of the one who is, for now, being called 'Simmy'. I have finished this piece as a DA Subscriber reward for the wonderful astralfox0893. I'm enjoying these b/w portraits with simple, stylized background quite a lot! I hope you like the final result. Thank you for your support. Tier II DA Supporters get one similar artwork a year, Tier III get two!

truly believe that abijah with heiji is like the healthiest example of him operating within a “relationship.” and that is not to say that it is healthy, it’s just to say that’s the best anyone’s ever really going to get from him. he most likely won’t kill you and you’re 7 times out of 10 immune from the (physical) aspect of his man child tantrums, but that’s about it. at least heiji has thick skin because abijah would make any sane person cry with the way he attacks peoples insecurities, character and traumas just for giggles. (“my right hand man- oh, that was tasteless of me…” along with many other examples.) he can’t commit to save his life because he has absolutely no desire to, so he will be seeing other people without a doubt. but at least heiji can circumvent that by having it be something they both do together. even so, i’m positive they’ve done shit behind each other’s backs as well because it’s in their nature to be deceptive and cruel.
they both lay in bed, tangled up, sleeping with one eye open and weapons under pillows because they are both keenly aware of the volatile nature the other possesses && they don’t delude themselves of that fact. but abijah is warm, and his heart beat is like bait dangling from a hook, and no one will ever understand heiji and his peculiarities like the man beside him. one day they know this will end, and one of them will die; in their minds, at each other’s hands. but this shared moment is nice, and two opportunists can enjoy each other’s company for the time being.

David Virelles “Nuna”
Pi Recordings, 2022 David Virelles w czasie pandemii był niezwykle aktywny jeżeli chodzi o rynek wydawniczy. Brał między innymi udział w projekcie This is Now: Love in the Time of Covid – nagrania tego cyklu ukazały się wyłącznie w formie cyfrowej – którym wytwórnia Pi Recordings starała się wspierać swoich Artystów. Najnowszy album, zatytułowany  Nuna jest z kolei solowym wydawnictwem…

Was there ever something about Alexander's history that historians were always sure of, and then at some point along modern times historians were like “no, this didn't happen at all” or “it wasn't like that”. Only for some time later historians look back and go “wait, wait, wait! Backtrack! That was actually accurate!”
Not so much Alexander, but that's true of material from Herodotus. Nothing specific is coming to me off the cuff, but it's a general truism that Herodotus's historical accuracy used to be routinely questioned, especially when he was talking about non-Greek people, only for historians to discover later that he'd been reporting something (relatively) accurately. One still needs to take Herodotus's ethnographies with a good dollop of care, however.
In the case of the Macedonians, if not Alexander, the best example I can think of is simply the long-time assumption that, until the reign of Philip, Macedonia was a barbaric backwater, especially Upper Macedonia. "Nothing good comes from Macedonia!" Demosthenes quipped. Even Alexander, in the famous (if also largely invented by Arrian) speech at Opis, claimed that Philip found the Macedonians herding sheep and wearing goatskins, and gave them good clothes and settled argriculture, and made them rulers of Greece.
Then the Royal palace at Pella came to light. Oh, well...that's Philip still. Then the late archaic material at Aigai, Aiani, Sindos, and Archontiko (et al.) came to light. Um, maybe they weren't so barbaric after all... (Goods from the Elite burials at Archontiko)

Also, we've learned that the Macedonians have been practicing settled agriculture for centuries before Philip. It's the idea of Macedonians pre-Philip as transhumant pastoralists that's a fiction of modern historians.

The female burial at Karagodeuashkh, Scythian or Sindo-Maeotian, 340-315 BCE
I couldn't find a lot of concrete info on all this, a lot of it was varied speculation on who the buried was and what the trinkets might represent. The finds may have been from a Sindo-Maeotian elite, of possible Scytho-Greek manufacture. Though some of the sources I looked at say the Sindi were a Scythian tribe, themselves. Others say they were something else. The headdress may feature the deceased woman's apotheosis or deities, or a combination of the two. Unfortunately I couldn't find info on the male buried with her.
Some general geographical info from Strabo: "Upon sailing into the Corocondametis, we meet with Phanagoria, a considerable city, Cepi, Hermonassa, and Apa turum, the temple of Venus (Apatura). Of these cities Phanagoria and Cepi are situated in the above-mentioned island on the left hand at the entrance of the lake; the others are on the right hand in Sindica beyond the Hypanis. There is Gorgipia, but the royal seat of the Sindi is in Sindica near the sea, and Aborace.
All those who are subject to the princes of the Bosporus are called Bosporani. The capital of the European Bosporani is Panticapæum, and of the Asian Bosporani, the city of Phanagorium, for this is the name given to it. Phanagoria seems to be the mart for those commodities which are brought down from the Mæotis, and from the barbarous country lying above it; and Panticapæum, the mart for the commodities which are transported thither from the sea. There is also in Phanagoria a magnificent temple of Venus Apatura, the Deceitful. This epithet of the Goddess is derived from a fable, according to which the giants assaulted her in this place. Having obtained the assistance of Hercules she hid him in a cave, and then admitted the giants one by one into her presence, and delivered them over to Hercules, thus craftily to be put to death.
The Sindi, Dandarii, Toreatæ, Agri, Arrhechi, and besides these, the Tarpetes, Obidiaceni, Sittaceni, Dosci, and many others, belong to the Mæotæ; to this people belong the Aspurgiani also, who live between Phanagoria and Gorgipia, at the distance of 500 stadia [from the Mæotis?]. Polemon, the king, entered the country of these people under a show of friendship, but his design was discovered, and they on their part attacked him unawares. He was taken prisoner, and put to death.
With respect to the Asian Mæotæ in general, some of them were the subjects of those who possessed the mart on the Tanaïs; others, of the Bosporani; and different bodies have revolted at different times. The princes of the Bosporani were frequently masters of the country as far as the Tanaïs, and particularly the last princes, Pharnaces, Asander, and Polemon."
