…does anything find Eldritch Wild comforting? Like Blupees or crows (commonly associated with death)? Conversely, what does wild find comforting? Completely unrelated, but does he have/do anything that is so totally normal and benign that it feels out of place? Something like knitting lol
E!Wild has a personal, unfounded vendetta against crows and steals eggs from their nests. They don't find him comforting, but they also pay little attention to his aura. In general, Wild dislikes things that don't fear him like he thinks they should XD
Blupees like him! Not only are they magical, but are rabbits! Wolves and foxes also like him, or at least tolerate him. Same for deer. It's why he can still sneak up on some animals and ride them. The Chain is perplexed at why some animals don't mind him and others cram for the hills.
Things that Wild finds comforting...his Zelda, the Champions (but especially Sidon), Riju and the Gerudo in general, the sand seal plush Riju gave him to match hers, hugs and cuddles (he gets so few), and Wolfie, hands down. Wild spends a lot of time with the Gerudo and Sidon.
As for something normal: Needle felting! It's easy to transport and pull out and work on in the evenings. Keeps his hands busy. He's made little koroks, animals, all sorts of things. It's not set in stone at this point, but I bet the first thing he made with the Chain was a little goat for Twilight 🥺

mutuals look AWAY im in my self indulgence era im cringe but im FREE 🦅
okay baby wild(cough bug) headcanons
-such a lil guy. he loves to just lay on someone while they do other stuff and just be there but not really present. much different from normal wild hours where he has to be on the watch for everything snd people expect him to do EVERYTHING. no he is lil dude all he does is lie there.
-fav activity is laying on sidon in the water. the ripples and sidons slow lazy kicking. it puts him right to sleep which he desperately needs all the time.
-has a little seal plush he got in Gerudo Town its his most beloved item and hes never shown it to the chain for fear of getting teases or it getting dirty or hylia forbid broken.
-he gets so quiet when hes small. like hes normally super quiet and uses sign more often than not but hes like silent when hes small. especially when hes trying to push it down and repress those feelings. takes a lot of concentration to focus on being an adult.
-i dont like using the term impure regression so we’re calling it involuntary regression. his regression is almost always involuntary. it happens in response to anxiety, anger, fear. basically any negative emotions can make him small in a snap.
-it took him so long to even tell the others about his regression and even longer to allow himself to regress around any of them. when hes small he mostly just cries, silently. it kind of unnerving because he’ll cry for ages and nothing seems to help or stop it. definitely a trauma thing from all the times hes had to push his emotions down when he was younger.
-hes very sensory when hes small. likes to play in the mud and water and feel everything. and put everything in his mouth.
-his fav when hes small is sidon first but then twi. twi is like a human furnace. seemingly always running hotter than the rest of them for some reason. twi also radiated big brother energy he would take such good carw of the baby
-such a lil guy. literally such a small dude. microscopic. a single celled organisms perchance.
-clearly i love him
i wanna do the rest of them at some point so we’ll see :3

“Ah, Is… is this okay?” His voice trembled ever so slightly as he spoke in a hushed voice. Lately, his mind had been reeling with thoughts of you, laying bare beneath him. Dreams of being able to worship you, holding you so close your heartbeats became one plagued his mind on the daily. However, one thing stood in the way of achieving that fantasy. And that was the fact that… he wasn’t experienced… at all. As of right now, he had only removed your shirt and was still looking at you like a lost puppy when asking to undo your bra. The usual bravery in his eye gone.
A soft giggle bounced off the walls. You lit up in amusement when the zora tensed under your touch, watching with wide eyes as you guided his hands away slowly, and gently pressed your palms to his shoulders. A silent command to lean back. Sidon swallowed thickly when he felt his head hit the plush mattress beneath him. “Did- did I do something wrong, my pearl?”
Promptly straddling him, you brought a hand up to cup his face and press a soft kiss to his lips. “No, I just want you to relax for me, mmkay?” His face burned red while his heart swelled in his chest. The response was a silent nod.
The bed emitted a soft creak when you moved down and released his two lengths from the pouch they originally resided in. Sidon gasped the moment he felt you kiss one of his tips, accompanied by the sound of your bra being unhooked. The cool air against your skin sent a wave of shivers throughout your body, but they went unnoticed as you preoccupied yourself with the act of sinking your mouth down onto him slowly. Cupping your breasts, you lent in closer untill they pressed against the neglected shaft.
You hummed when Sidon threaded a hand through your hair, tucking away a stray strand behind your ear. Slowly, you got to work kneading your breasts around his second shaft. peering up at him through your eyelashes, you made eye contact with him, feeling his hips lightly buck up into you. “Dearest, your so- hah, so precious.” His face had a fierce fed color, almost matching the rest of his scaled body as he stuttered out the sentence between heavy pants and grunts. His lengths were big in comparison to you, but that didn’t stop you from trying to take him even deeper into your small mouth. Every time your tongue circled his tip, he would let out a slight gasp, and for every long stripe you licked up his length, you'd be rewarded by a breathless moan. As soon as you watched him throw his head back, you decided it was the perfect time to catch him off guard and speed up your pace, syncing the rhythm of your breasts and mouth. The Prince was thoroughly surprised, his head jolting forward. Sidon’s eyes met yours once more. A copy smile graced your features at the sound of an involuntary moan reaching your ears.
“My love! S-slow down! I think… I think I’m g-gonna-“ your mouth left his tip with a ‘pop’. Your hands flew to each grasp a shaft, rigorously pumping up and down. Your lips curved up once more after pressing your tongue to his tip. “Do it.”
Sidon’s hand swiftly moved from your hair to the sheets, grabbing them roughly as his other moved over his mouth. The zoras mind replayed your tone of voice, the command bouncing off the walls of his head. You watched his entire body tense, feeling his hot seed shoot out and coat you in the thick translucent liquid. His chest was heaving when he looked down at you once more, eyes widening at you lapping up whatever you could.
His warm palm cupped your cheek, thumb swiping at your bottom lip and unknowingly bringing a bead of cum to your lips. How amusing it was when his eyes widened and mouth opened slightly at the feeling of you licking his finger, going as far as to even wrap your lips around it and making a point to keep eye contact. You couldn’t be stopped from laughing seeing him look to the side, covering his mouth with the back of his free hand. “Your not hiding your blush y’know? Its clear as day love.” You spoke up, hooking your thumbs under the end of your pants and shimmying them down, opting to kick them off and throw them to some random corner of the room. When you were done, you moved his hand away to kiss his cheek, slowly trailing your mouth down his jaw. “My Pearl-“ he breathed, inhaling sharply when you sucked on his neck. Only then did he become painfully aware of your cunt barely hovering over his drooling members, the only separation being the underwear you still had on.
While he might’ve just been pushed off the edge of pleasure, he wanted more. Soft hands wrapped around your hips, bringing them down to rest completely on top of him. Sidon shamelessly whined at the feeling of such intimate contact. “That’s the spirit! Good boy.” You cooed. “Now you’re getting the hang of it.” He felt himself twitch at your praise and goddesses the heat in his cheeks was embarrassing.
“If I may..” he spoke softly motioning towards your underwear with his eyes. “Mmhm”
That was all he needed to work up the courage to pull your panties down and shakily press a finger to your hole. Although your soft sigh gave a nice boost of confidence, it still wasn’t enough to break that cloud of anxiety he felt deep within his mind.
When he felt you starting to line yourself up on one of his dicks, he jolted to grasp your hand. “Ah, we don’t have to-“ “No. I wanna.”
The only thing he could do now was sit back and watch you took your seat on him. Sidon etched every single detail into his mind. He refused to look a way no matter how good it felt. From the way your body twitched and trembled when just the tip was in. To the borderline pornographic moans that gracefully tumbled out like a sirens song.
The moment he was fully inside of you, he felt he could come. Everything so new and so utterly divine. His whole being was trembling with just the warmth of you alone.
Finally feeling adjusted enough by the stretch to accommodate the sheer size of him, you slowly began rocking your hips forward. Every movement you made filled the room with echoes of synchronized moans and frequent bed creaks.
“You feel, hah- you feel s-so good.” Sidon could barely speak. His vision went fuzzy while he helped you move along his length, the extra friction of his other shaft rubbing against your stomach making his body tingle. The sounds you made would forever play in his head as he eyed the way your breasts moved deliciously in time with your movement. Everything at once tipped him off the edge once more, blessing him with a high he swore to never forget. Your insides filled with his release and stomach abruptly painted with another layer of seed.
The air was cut by sharp moans from the two lovers. A comfortable silence befell you as you fought to catch your breath. “I love you. I love you so much.” The Prince whispered, snaking his arms around you. You rested your forehead against his, focusing on the feeling of his breath fanning over you. “I love you too. You should blush more often. It’s cute.” Once more he bashfully averted his eyes.
~《☆♡•°•°♡☆》~ I got a little carried away whoops- anyway, I hope you enjoy and thank you for requesting!! <33

[It's another short video from yesterday. Surrounded by mist, Vanilla stands at the top of Celestial Tower, holding the cord to the tower's massive bell along with his niece.
On either side of them are Tula, focusing somewhere in the distance, and Haruto, trying his best not to fidget. A little further back is Sidon, clinging to a plush, Amperage, Wyrdo, and Roya, all of whom are unusually quiet.
Finally, wordlessly, Vanilla nods at her niece and the two move their bodies to ring the bell once. Twice. Three times. The sound is clear, but it doesn't ring as loudly as one would expect...]

[It's a video. It shows Flare sitting next to the Emily plush, trying to practice talking to it. It's not going well, as she is still stuttering and her face is scarlet. She looks from side to side, making sure nobody is watching, completely missing Narrator, the one recording. She then leans in to kiss the doll, only to be interrupted as Sidon walks in. She lets out a startled yelp as she backs away, yelling "IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE-" The video ends.]

Battle Scarring
You can find this fic, and many more, on my ao3!
_______________________
An arrow whizzed through the air, striking the hay bale target with a distinct "thwack" before it fizzled with a slight crack of electricity, then stopped.
Zelda had wanted to learn how to use the shock arrows properly since, as Link learned the first time he used them, firing them wrong can result in the user becoming just as damaged as the target. That, and she felt like they were the type she should use. She found she had a knack for the electrically charged arrows, and they made her think of Urbosa.
Link had worried about her using such destructive ammo when she was still new to the bow, but he was able to craft a shock arrow that was far less devastating for her to start with. He watched her pull another from her quiver and load it. "You're a quick learner. Last week, it would have hit the pond." He pointed at the small body of water that was just behind the target.
Zelda shook her head at the memory. "Goddesses… all those poor fish. Serves me right for forgetting that electricity conducts rather well in water."
"It happens." He flinched slightly at the sound of another charged arrow hitting its mark, and crackling with electricity. "I promise you whatever mistakes you'll make with that thing will be nothing compared to what I managed to do with mine."
"Have you forgotten I kept watch?" She giggled. "I saw some of the ludicrous things you managed with those bomb arrows of yours. I'm surprised you came out of it all unscathed."
"Mostly." He pulled up his right sleeve and pointed at a small patch of skin that was warped and hairless compared to the rest of his arm. "That's what happens when you mix up your bomb arrows with your regular ones, then fire at close range. Kind of surprised this is all I walked away with."
Zelda sat the bow down in the plush grass, and walked over to him, looking at his arm. "I'm shocked your eyebrows didn't come off with it. I remember that fight. You were trying to dispatch a bokoblin, right?"
"Yep." Link cringed at the realization that she had seen that. Of all the things she had seen him do, it had to be that.
The encounter had originally terrified her, but now she did her best not to laugh whenever she thought of it. She could still perfectly recall Link's high-pitched screams of terror. "You scared me to death, you know. Still do. I've probably got gray hairs from keeping watch over you." She placed a finger on the scar, feeling the formed ridges. "How have you walked away alive from most of these instances?"
" Most ." The memory of the guardian's laser gnawed at him before he shook it away. "Experience, pure luck, and a lot of healing elixirs."
"And plenty of calls to Mipha's power, I'm sure."
"I'm sure she's getting sick of saving my ass."
"Goddesses, I miss that woman." Zelda took another arrow from the quiver and set her sights back on the target. One final shot before resting. She fired and watched as the arrow hit the small, central dot in the center of the target. Bullseye. "What other scars have you collected from your various… excursions?"
"Misadventures?" Link corrected.
"Scuffles, if you will."
He had to think for a moment. Sure, there was no shortage of scars on his body, but he had forgotten the stories behind most of them. After a while, all the bokoblin bites and lynel scratches just blended together. He thought about the prominent one on his left eyebrow, which sliced right through it. "Got this one swimming with Sidon, one day."
Zelda raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"Yeah. He had me on his back, and I thought it would be funny to try and stand up. You know, like a surfboard. I guess…"
Zelda sheathed the bow, biting back a grin. "I think I missed this one. Do tell."
Link lowered his head, and his ears twitched, slightly abashed. "I… slipped off of him and got sent careening right into a rock. Got knocked out cold and he had to fish me out of the water." He blushed slightly. It wasn't one of his finest moments. The red hue deepened when he heard Zelda snort. "I could have been concussed, you know!"
"Nothing your brain hasn't already been through I'm sure."
"Hey-!"
"And this one?" She said, pointing to a cut in his ear. She used the tip of her finger to trace it slightly, and it made his ear twitch.
"Careful, it's sensitive." He perked them slightly. "Hate that one. Yiga scar. I was fighting one and his blade just barely scathed me, but I was left with… this. Makes it harder to hear out that side." The blade had taken out a sizable notch in his ear. Hylian ears were designed in such a way that they could hear the slightest movements. "Now I mostly just rely on my sight, and gut instinct."
Zelda's own ears mimicked his movements: a habit that had grown on her since the calamity. "I… definitely don't remember that one. I would have tried to help. Somehow."
He could see her slight frown. She probably couldn't have stopped it even if she wanted to, but, Zelda being Zelda, of course, she would still feel guilty. "Hey, It's alright. Just another scar. Believe me, there's worse and better." He said, pulling the collar of his shirt down slightly, exposing yet another blemish, and he started to talk about a lynel that had caught him off guard while he was riding away from the stables.
She learned very quickly that he was absolutely riddled with scars. She must have been busy when most of these happened because only a few of them jogged any memories. What had he gotten into? "My word… There are so many! How did I miss all of these?"
Link pulled his shirt back down over his torso, covering himself, and all the little imperfections, back up. Zelda mourned the loss. "You were pretty busy, you know, saving the kingdom and whatnot. I'm not the only one with scars. You got your fair share too." He gestured at her thigh. Beneath her pants, Link knew of a large mark she had earned when she launched herself between him and a bokoblin's mace. She couldn't walk for a week, and it had barely missed a major artery.
"That I did, but mine pale in comparison. You've been through… so much." She lightly grazed her hand over the covered mark on her thigh, the memory burning in her mind. Link had scolded her for what felt like hours for charging to his rescue like that. No matter. She would gladly do it again.
Link took a few tentative steps closer, close enough to catch her hand in a gentle cradle, rubbing his fingers along the back of it. "We both have. No more one than the other." Feeling bold, he brought her hand up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles, making her smile and blush. "We've come a long way, princess."
"That we have, Hero."
It was more than just the physical and mental scarring. Link was Link, he had always had his fighting spirit, but after Ganon's defeat, Zelda had accompanied him on pretty much every journey, hike, and battle he had gotten into. Though she was more than winded after the first few, she quickly learned to keep up. She had mastered her way with a sword, even finding her own technique, and was more than skilled with her power, now that she had a hundred years of usage on it. She was turning into a knight of sorts too.
It was more than her skills. Her body had changed too. Her physique closely matched that of Links, she just wasn't as skinny, and scars were starting to make themselves plenty. Hell, she had a new one forming on her calf from falling off her horse a week ago, and her hair was cut short, something she did immediately after a Yiga clan member had yanked her to the ground by her long ponytail. He had nearly sliced her in half while she lay there.
Her hand still in his, he gently pulled her towards a nearby tree, its orange, and amber-colored leaves just beginning to fall. A telltale sign of the season's change. He spun her around slowly before placing his other hand on her waist, bringing her close. A little trick he had learned a hundred years back, waltzing in the ballroom. She admits that was the first time he had, literally and figuratively, swept her off her feet. "You were once a princess without a single scrape on your body. I'd call you fit to be a warrior now, or the most beautiful knight I've ever seen."
She giggled, still pressing close. "Only because of you. You kept me safe all those years ago. You still do. Though, I don't think I'd quite recognize myself now. All bruises, bumps, and muscles."
Link had let go at this point, stretching his arms as far as they could go, then leaning back against the tree's rough-barked trunk. "Man, what would that young princess in Hyrule Castle think if she saw you?" He said, referencing a young, less experienced Zelda.
"I think she'd faint."
"In terror or joy?"
She leaned back with him. "Both, and you? What would that little countryside farm boy think of you?"
"Oh, he would drop dead ." They both laughed at that. "The Princess' royal knight, hero of Hyrule, and I can talk now? He wouldn't believe it."
It was true. Before the Calamity, Link was best known by his fellow knights for being unusually silent. Even the princess had commented on it a few times before she had grown fond of him. " You never even chirp. You can't always let your sword speak for you, you know. Part of being in the royal family is having quick wit, and a sharp tongue."
"Like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly." Zelda took a seat under the tree, with the ground covered in once near-extinct silent princesses. She patted the dirt next to her, silently asking Link to sit next to her. "You've come a long way, hero. You should be proud, and I think it should be commended. If I could see to it that a ceremony be held, I would. I guess my praise will have to do for now."
Link smiled. "Your praise is more than enough."
"Yeah? Guess I'll have to say it more often."
"We should both be commended. I mean… look at you."
"Look at me." She copied, gesturing to her body.
"Oh, I am." He punctuated it with a cheeky wink.
"Ugh, you are truly awful." She gave him a light biff to his arm. "If only my father could see me now. I look like I could lift a bull, I probably could, and if he heard my profanity now, he'd fucking gasp too." That earned a chuckle from Link, but he watched solemnly as her smile faded, and she looked at something on the distant horizon. "I feel like I've lost half of what makes me a princess."
Lost it? She seemed more like a Princess now than she ever was. Fit to be queen, if Link could have a say in it. "Zelda." The sudden change in tone made her tense. "You are still very much a princess to me. You haven't lost a single bit of your charm or beauty, and if anything, I'd say you've gained a whole lot more."
"You think so?" Her eyes were still focused on the distant hills.
Aiming to shake her from her downcast state, he silently scooted up behind her, and wrapped his arms around her waist, making her squeal in surprise. He pulled her back into his body, and placed little, feather-light kisses along her neck, making her chuckle and sigh. "I do think that, Zel."
"Zel…" she turned and cupped his face in her hand. "Now there's a name I haven't heard in… a long time."
"You'll hear it more. I promise. I remembered how much you liked it." Lifting his head, he saw that the sky had begun to take on a slight pinkish glow. Night was on its way and, as much as he'd like to stay right there, all night, a snug, shared bedroll in their tent was much more enticing. "Sun's setting, love. Wanna get a move on?" He held out a hand for her to take, and pulled her up off the ground.
"Alright, but I choose where we set up camp this time." She began collecting their things and went to pull her used arrows out of the hay bale.
"What? What was so bad about last time?"
That earned him an eye roll. "You may be used to sleeping on sharp rocks, but I'd at least like a nice patch of grass under the tent. With my luck, you'd stick us over a mud puddle."
Link gestured defeated, though he would admit he was used to just picking random spots and setting up camp. Zelda had a much better sense of comfort than he did. Good thing she was royalty. "Alright. Alright, I'll get the horse."
He returned a few minutes later with a blood bay stallion in tow. Zelda took her time tying everything snug onto the saddle before she took his hand, and he lifted her up with him.
She wrapped her hands around his waist, leaning into him. "Let's go, Hero."
"As you wish." With a click and a light boot to its side, the horse reared slightly, and they sped off toward the forest, leaving their cozy little archery spot behind.

Link sat on the bench and rested his face in his hands a moment. He focused on breathing. He heard Riju get out of bed, but like a true warrior her feet made no sound. She was growing strong, indeed. After a moment, she pushed a plush seal into his arms.
He wasn't surprised that it was easier to be calm when crushing a plush to his chest.
"You're the most level headed of the champions." Link made the effort to look at her eyes. He couldn't hold it, but she understood at the same.
She tilted her head. "Sidon is-"
"Soft." Link cut her off. "You and Zelda are closer, too."
"You'll find her." She laid her hand on his shoulder, and took a seat beside him on the bench. "I know you will."
"I already have." Link pushed his palm into his eye to keep from crying. It... didn't work as well as he hoped. "Do you trust me?"
Riju scoffed. "I have a voe sitting in my bedroom, in the Gerudo City. I trust you. Bularia trusts you. You would be very dead otherwise. Very dead. Where's Zelda?"
"Above us." He closed his mind to pictures and focused on how his words were spelled instead of what they mean. "She's taking care of the Master Sword, right now."
Riju took a breath. "Okay. That's... definitely important. I wish she was able to send us word instead of running around doing everything herself."
"That's just it." Link wiped his face on the stuffed seal and fixed his composure. "The Zelda people are seeing? Isn't her. It's this evil mummy that's causing all this. And impersonating her. We'll see her, tomorrow, when we go to the temple, but it won't be Zelda. It'll be him."
"Okay that's just sick." Riju frowned. "How can I help?"
"The second we see her, I want us to strike her down. My arrows, your lightening." He set the seal aside. Clasped his fingers together. Bounced his knee. "We'll need to be quick. I think the fake can talk, but I don't know how strong it is."
Riju clapped her hands around his. "Then tomorrow, we get answers."
See this is what I prefer to have seen happening when Link finds out where Zelda is 😭
(When you think about it, Link saying nothing at all and letting people believe Ganondorf’s shenanigans are actually Zelda is Link being just as much as a gremlin as Ganondorf. Hyrule’s pranksters. They should just film Hyrule’s version of Jackasses together and call it a truce)

@juicezone hi!! little botw Link thoughts :3 (they might be repetitive or coherent i didn’t know how to go about doing this post sjdjdjd)
he was an age regressor before the calamity. always always in private. always came with a thick coat of shame that he could never seem to shrug off. he had no little items. mostly it was just crying alone in his room and not answering if anybody then caught him crying.
then. after he was resurrected. and he forgot who he was, he also lost his cloak of shame! No more feeling ashamed of regression. The plateau became a place to rediscover himself, and a safe place to learn about his regression without anyone there to judge him for it
King Rhoam isn’t exactly a caregiver but he does help explain it when Link starts acting like a kid. It’s nice to have explanations.
After he gets off the plateau he’s got a pretty good grasp on his regression, what triggers it, how to deal with it, that kinda thing. He never tries to stop it. He can mask pretty well. He doesn’t mask around kids, or people he trusts, like Impa and Purah
Some other folks he gets comfy regressing around are: Pikango (the painter guy), Beedle, the Bolson Construction guys, Teba, Sidon, Yunobo, Riju, the Gorons in general (it’s the enthusiastic “hey, Brother!” that gets him sksjdjd), Kass, a couple others maybe
Before the calamity Link and Zelda would have avoided each other like the plague if one of them even slightly felt small, but after everything is over everything becomes a lot more comfortable and safe between them and they become Flips for each other, taking turns caregiving and regressing
So then uh. How he is and what he likes when he’s little:
Zero impulse control. If he wants to do it, he will. consequences mean nothing skskdjf
His gender becomes a lot more fluid, and that leaks into his big self as well. (Link is nonbinary! He doesn’t really think of himself as having a gender he’s just kinda there. Zelda is Genderfluid- she has a gender, it’s just not always clear what that gender is)
Link likes stargazing :3 and playing with koroks. And petting dogs. And playing with his horses. a true animal lover this kid.
it can take a loooot of coaxing to get this kid to nap. he’s afraid of sleeping. (he doesn’t want to accidentally fall asleep for another hundred years.) he tries to only sleep in places where someone is there to wake him up
He LOVES being carried and Yunobo and Sidon are more than happy to carry him!! (Teba not so much, but if Link and Tulin band together they can convince him to take them flying)
Link and Riju bond over a love of sand seals. She gives him his first sand seal plush :3
Zelda is a bit awkward about regressing at first but looking after a carefree and happy Link, she finds the confidence to regress herself and feels safe and loved and she cries for like a week

Hi Ray! Uhh it’s your resident lurker, the one who wrote that long-ass ask about Link and Tulin being so similar? Y’know how I said the colors post was giving me some brainrot? Yeah, uh.. this is in part inspired by that. I hope you enjoy? A!! (And seriously, no pressure to respond!! + if you'd like me to remove this for whatever reason, then please let me know!!)
(Also a warning, this is long as shit, like. Almost 2000 words according to google docs, so it is MOST CERTAINLY under a read more! There are TOTK endgame spoilers so. Watch out, reader, if for whatever reason you haven't gotten that far!)
Ganondorf could not kill them. Nor could he kill their spirits, their drive, their care for eachother.
But what he did do to to them sure as hell killed Link’s creativity, for a couple months.
Even now that Sonia and Rauru had returned his arm to him, unscarred and without its old aches and pains, Link found it harder than ever to create with that hand. Maybe the aforementioned is all the reason he needs- it feels nothing like how it should feel. It doesn’t feel like his anymore.
It was one thing when his pains were tangible, physical- he could do something about them, or take something for them. But the phantom pains, both from his scars of days past and his time with the ‘gift’ of Rauru’s arm? There’s so little to be done about them.
But eventually, Link does what he has always done: fight through his discomfort and pain to achieve his goals. Now, that doesn’t mean it isn’t slow going, but he doesn’t bother to note it as often as he used to, these days. Time passing, ‘wasted’, is no problem, now that the threats to his home and friends are gone once more.
He has a new project he’s working on. Gifts, one for all of his friends- Zelda, the sages, so many people that have helped them all along the way. Yona especially, a marriage gift for her for when the time comes.
He makes Zelda’s first. A scarf, themed after her dragon form and lined with beads made of the shards that would break off the spikes of her spine. She has mixed feelings when he first presents it, but the way the beads help her relax turns the tide, and Link doesn't miss how she takes very cooler day as an opportunity to wear it.
Yunobo’s has to wait until Link has all his strength back- it requires stone-carving and metal-working, and he can’t do that comfortably yet- not from a pain standpoint, more inexperience. Same for Sidon and Yona’s gifts, but theirs will come first.
Riju gets a new plush for her collection, fashioned after her favorite sandseal. It wears a plush version of the Lightning Helm crooked on its head, and Link very kindly does not comment when Riju starts getting teary in his home, after a dinner with him and Zelda. The two of them have always been rather sentimental people, at heart, and he will allow her to keep the facade of being anything else if she so wishes.
Then comes Tulin. Tulin, for as long as Link can remember, has been an adventurer at heart. He has all he needs at his home village, all he could ever ask, and the wilds give him all he could ever want, but comfort in the latter isn’t easy to come by sometimes. So Link's idea is something.. seemingly simple, but not so much to make.
Link takes months to make it, longer than any of the other gifts. He has to mine and buy rubies, both of which take time and energy. He has to carefully dye all the thread and fabric he needs, but Sayge is kind enough to lend their services- as well as their keen eye for color. Riju takes the rubies to Gerudo Town so they can be prepared by a proper expert on them, the best anyone could ever know. Link loves the jewels that come from Isha, he knew when he got the finished product returned that he made the right investment.
And eventually, a rhythm builds. Piece by piece, color by color, the gift comes together. And it’s ready by the time Link goes to Rito Village next to join Tulin on a journey.
The day goes as it always does, when Link visits. Tulin still wears the Secret Stone around his ankle, and the colors of the band holding it are still as vivid and clear as they were the day he received it. He even wears a similar, braided band Link made to ‘counterbalance’ on the opposing ankle.
Green, Red, Yellow. May the Windlines carry you far, and come home to me alive. You won’t fight alone.
Link had made it, admittedly clumsily, when Tulin first became a Sage. Link promised to make a nicer one, when he could, but Tulin had refused. He was attached to the gift, it seemed. For the best- Link never found the time to make a better one, as much as he hated that fact.
Link finds Tulin in the Village, assuring and reassuring too many times over that he would be fine. He’d be back in a few weeks with Link, and it wasn’t like they were going to go fight Gleeoks or anything- though Link was sure Tulin would beg to do so.
Maybe they would, but Link would be the one to determine that.
They spend about an hour at the nearest Skyview tower after, Tulin watching the Purah Pad over Link's shoulder as the Hylian points out all the destinations he wants to hit with Tulin- major hotspots for big monsters (no Gleeoks yet, to Tulin’s disappointment), historic landmarks and cool scenery he thinks Tulin would like. There’s no shortage to what he wants to show the young Rito, and there is no shortage to what Tulin wants to see.
So they head to the Leviathan Skeleton there in Hebra, first. Then through the snowfields, carefully avoiding the Gleeok there, to Mount Drena. Tulin meets the Great Fairy (after Link has a long, long talk with Mija about appropriate behavior with Tulin, which she respects) and gets some of his gear upgraded.
Then they go farther east. They check out Thyphlo Ruins, and that’s where they stop for the night, next to the Skyview tower. They set up camp, with Tulin helping clear out and scatter any monster bones they find so that no Stal-monsters pop up first, and then they start to settle the camp itself.
Tulin usually brings a hammock to sleep in, when they go on trips, and when Link returns from checking for any wandering monsters, Tulin is setting up the poles for that. Link takes a deep breath, hand resting on the Purah Pad as he walks over.
Once he’s gotten the boy’s attention with a couple of short, chirp-like whistles, his hands rise to talk. “So, before you set that up any further, I wanna show you something.” He signs slower than he normally would, knowing Tulin can understand him but not always keep up.
“What’s that? I thought we saw all there was to see here.” Tulin perches on one of the poles he has set up, a perfect T-shape for doing so. “Is it something you brought?” His head tilts, eyes shining with a youthful curiosity that Link has to adore. The boy still has that, Link kinda hopes he always will.
“Yes, I actually made something. It’s a gift for you. I’m sorry it took me so long to make it for you, I wasn’t sure what to make until a couple months ago."
Tulin perks up, hopping off the perch and landing right in front of Link, making the older step back a little. “Really? It better not be a new band, I told you I didn’t want a new one!"
“No no no,” Link signs rapidly, “It’s way cooler than the band. Step back and cover your eyes, I want you to be surprised.” When Tulin doesn’t do as Link asks, Link repeats the instructions twice before Tulin finally groans and walks away, wings over his head.
Link quickly lays out his gift next to Tulin’s setup, making sure it’s not too close to the fire and smoothing it out as best as he can.
When it’s ready, Link whistles again for Tulin’s attention, and he is flying over in an instant. He lands next to the laid out gift, and he seems confused for a few moments before he starts bouncing and flapping around, excited enough to start chirping.
It’s a new hammock, made in the same standard adult size that Tulin usually uses for long trips. Technically it’s far too big for Tulin now, not that the other one wasn't, but it should last long enough for Tulin to grow into. It’s all quilted and embroidered, a feat that took him almost every second of the months he spent on it.
It's all made of the same durable material that Link’s paraglider is made of, made to last and endure the elements- all the elements, even Death Mountain in Link’s experience.
The quilted part itself is an image. Tulin from the front, head bowed, hands cupped to hold his Secret Stone. The symbol on the Secret Stone is embroidered in white and blue, and the symbol is repeated on the backing as well. Green and blue swirls behind the young Rito’s image, like the shrines that have long since dissolved from Hyrule.
The border of the quilt is a rhythm of colors.
Yellow - You’re part of my family, and I am part of yours, as long as you will have me.
Orange - I aspire to keep up with your skill, your stories will be told with awe as you grow.
Dark Green - The Windlines favor you, as your family does, as I do. May they carry you far.
White - These Colors don’t define you though. Don’t be tied down by them, make your own. I know you can. I know you will.
Red - Above all, brother, come home to us, and come home safe.
Every Red patch bears a ruby, and every Yellow patch a piece of the Light Dragon’s spikes, all rounded like beads, all held there by thin but sturdy wiring sewn under the patch, and Link knows the magic in them will keep Tulin warm in any blizzard, any horrid winter. Link won't let him be stuck in a mess like that unprepared, not again.
Tulin looks like he might cry. Link isn’t sure if all he wants to convey to the boy gets across quite right, but Tulin seems to understand the gist of it, judging by how he outright tackles Link after a little bit of Tulin's excited hopping.
He starts rambling, and Link stumbles around a bit as he wraps his arms around the Rito who’s clinging to his torso like he’s a tree in a storm. Link can make out a vast appreciation of the gift, he hears an I love it somewhere in there, and if Link wasn't already grinning (he was), he wouldve then.
Eventually, Tulin untangles from the Hylian, and they set up the hammock together. Tulin is far too careful as he hops in, and Link laughs, signing that “you don’t need to be so careful Tulin, just don't purposefully rip it with your talons and it’ll be fine!”
And that night, Tulin sleeps soundly, deeper in his dreams than a Frok in the Depths. And Link finds himself proud. He thinks he made the right choice, as he himself drifts to sleep. He will not have such a peaceful sleep, he rarely does, but it is made slightly more gentle by the knowledge that Tulin will.
