Soap's Da had a saying, "There's two types of snake keepers, those that have been bitten and those that are lying bastards". And John "Soap" MacTavish is many things but a liar isn't one of them... Unless you count making any and every possible excuse to avoid letting Ghost into his room. But does that really count?
A liar he is not but stupid he definitely may be. Intellectually he knows that Wee Man is getting big enough that he shouldn't be free handling him without a spotter, it'd been one of the first things his parents had drilled into his head before he was allowed to even think about getting out the bigger snakes. and intellectually of course he realizes that he probably ought to have a spotter for feeding time too. But Wee Man is so sweet and really he's not that big. So now he's here, with a 7 1/2 foot python latched onto his arm and the stupid fucking rat dangling from the stupid fucking tongs, thankfully it's a frozen thawed otherwise it'd be even more of a shit show.
He's next to certain the snake nicked a vein or something with the amount of blood starting to pool on his cement floor. Fuck.
His head is starting to get a wee bit fuzzy and the arm Wee Man has is well past pins and needles when he remembers what he needs to do, and realizes that he's just been standing there bleeding out like a clueless bawbag. He grabs the handle of Vodka he keeps for any number of emergencies and quickly splashes some over the snake's head, cursing none to quietly at the burn in his punctures. Wee Man drops his wrist like he's been burned, tearing back with as much of a confused expression as a snake can make. Soap tosses the rat into the python's cage and fumbles for a minute before he manages to work his arm free of the slackening coils, pushing Wee Man in after it. Slamming the door near hard enough to shatter it he's left standing in the tiny walkway he's left for himself: tongs in one hand, vodka in the other; blood dripping from his wrist, and a brain fuzzy enough to make into a down comforter.
The rational part of his brain would have him check into medical with a convenient fib, but blood loss does silly things to a man, like making him laugh at terrible jokes and flirt shamelessly with his stunning superior officer.
"Johnny?" Wide brown eyes peer down at him through a crooked balaclava.
So it really isn't much of a surprise when he finds himself swaying in front of Ghost's door, clutching his wrist as he leaves a trail of crimson splotches down the hallway. He's trying to wrap his brain around the concept of knocking when the door in front of him eases open.
"Allo Lt, lovely night we're having. Could ah ask ye a favor?"

Tumblr media
It’s coming up on nearly a week and a half of Joel working long days and late nights at the latest suburban McMansion he’s been contracted out to. Each and every time he creeps into his side of the bed after you’ve already gone to sleep, never failing to wake you up in the process, he always has a different excuse. “My concrete guy was out sick today”, “the vendor gave us the wrong size rebar”, “the landscapers were in our way all damn day”, and other similar eye roll-inducing anecdotes that were followed up with sleepy apologies.
Tonight, you’re almost certain, will be just the same.
Slogging through yet another slow and uneventful day at your corporate nine-to-five, you’re practically counting down the seconds until you’ll be able to escape your drab little cubicle for the day. You aren’t exactly looking forward to going home, though, either. You know that all you have waiting for you will be another lonely night of heating up a frozen dinner, watching reality TV reruns until the ten o’clock news comes on, and then tucking yourself into a cold bed.
While you’re waiting around for a coworker to message you back about something painfully unimportant, you decide to get up to kill some time in the bathroom on your phone and stretch your legs a bit. You stand up from your rolling chair, grabbing your phone in the process, and head down the hall to the one single-person bathroom in the building that you know of.
You step inside and click the lock shut behind you, looking forward to having a rare few minutes to yourself without the threat of your manager lurking over your shoulder. You inspect your makeup in the mirror and address some flyaway hairs before leaning back against the sink and swiping your home screen into view. Your heart soars at the discovery of a text notification from Joel, but settles just as quickly when you read the words across your screen.
A couple of my dumbass guys fucked up some measurements again. Gonna be another late one. Sorry baby.
You let out an exasperated sigh and turn around to face your reflection again, bracing yourself on the edge of the sink and trying not to cry. How much fucking longer are you going to have to put up with this? You'd been getting through it alright so far, but his sterile text had ignited a raging fire deep in your stomach that made a scorching heat climb its way up the back of your neck.
You’re determined to get his attention tonight, one way or another. Even if it means pushing some of his buttons, riling him up, making him feel a few licks of that very same inferno. You’re feeling fucking bratty.
You undo the top few buttons of your blouse and shimmy it off your shoulders, exposing the blushing lace of the bra you had chosen when you were getting dressed this morning. Using one arm to hold your phone up to the mirror with the camera app open, you use the other one to prop yourself up against the sink and assist in pushing your tits together. As a final touch, you pull down one of the delicate cups along with its accompanying strap, exposing an already peaked nipple. Meeting your own eyes in the reflection and forming your glossy lips into a faux pout, you snap the picture and attach it to your text conversation with Joel. You type out a coy little message to go along with it and send it off.
that’s okay daddy. just sad i wore a rly cute bra today for nothing :(
While you anxiously wait for his response, you take a few more lewd photos to tease him with later, and make your way back to your desk after you button yourself up again and smooth out your skirt.
Sitting back down at your cubicle, you check your notifications to find a response from Joel, sent just a few seconds ago.
What’d I tell you about sendin me shit like that when I’m at work? Put your fuckin tits away babygirl. Not in the mood today.
Despite his harsh words, you know your plan is already working in your favor. You can’t help but giggle to yourself as you attach another one of the photos you had taken in the bathroom, this one of your matching lace panties pulled aside to expose your bare pussy to the front camera. You type out another flirtatious message and tap the button to send it.
idk what u mean daddy :( just miss u is all. she misses u too :((
You promptly turn off your phone and place it screen-down next to your mousepad, resigning yourself to a mere ten minutes of work before you can’t resist temptation anymore and pick it back up again to check for a reply.
Last warning babygirl. I got enough shit to deal with today, don’t need your slutty pictures distractin me. I’ll see ya tonight.
whatever. u don’t pay attention to me anymore anyway :/
You begin to regret your message as soon as you send it, worrying you might have taken things too far. But it was true; you’re upset, in a bratty mood, and feeling neglected. And, maybe you did want to work him up enough for him to take it all out on you, to fuck the attitude out of you the way you know he likes to do every so often.
A few seconds after you power off your screen to do a few more minutes of work, it illuminates again.
Oh I don't? When I get home tonight you better be kneelin in front of the door waitin for me undressed like a good girl. Not like the fuckin brat you’re actin like. And we’ll see about payin you some attention. Now pull your fuckin panties up and get back to work.
Your heart jumps into your throat as you read his text, now feeling exhilarated that your plan is officially in motion. After you’ve read his words through a couple of times, squeezing your thighs together and stifling a whimper as you did so, your trembling fingers type out a simple reply:
yes daddy <3
The remainder of your work day seems to pass by in slow motion, every minute feeling more like five. You can hardly bring yourself to focus on any of your mundane tasks, your mind constantly drifting to what you might be in for tonight. Will he spank you and leave red handprints on your ass for days? Will he fuck your face while you sputter and gasp around him? Will he work you over with his tongue until all you know how to say is “I’m sorry, Daddy”? As you shake yourself from your trance and try to focus your eyes again, you wonder why you hadn’t thought to act up like this earlier in the week. You keep your eye on the little digital clock in the corner of your monitor for the last five consecutive minutes of your work day, and as soon as 4:59 flashes to 5:00, you practically sprint out to your car in your hurry to get home.
You’re cuddled up on the couch underneath your favorite fleece blanket, already stripped down to your peony-colored underwear set like Joel had requested. The past couple of hours have been spent cycling between all of your streaming services and social media apps, trying desperately to find something to occupy yourself with until he gets home. You’re half-tempted to get up and walk some laps around the house, but around 10:30, you finally see the scanning headlights of Joel’s pickup as it turns into the driveway.
You immediately spring up from your little nest on the couch and prance over to the front door, kneeling a few feet in front of it just like he ordered.
In your excited anticipation to see him, you tune your ears to pick up every little sound you hear as he makes his way to you: the slam of the truck’s driver’s side door, the dull thud of his work boots heading up the walkway, the prolonged jingling of his keys as he fumbles with them to unlock the door. You’re sure he’s fidgeting with them for a few seconds longer than usual, just to tease you and keep you waiting. A shiver runs up your spine and you can feel your heart pounding against the walls of your chest as he finally turns the lock.
He calmly steps inside and closes the door behind him, dropping his dusty work bag onto the floor and stripping himself of his canvas tool belt. He stalks over to where you’re knelt on the hardwood, wrapped in your dainty lace for him like a little doll. There’s something arousing about the contrast between your barely-there feminine attire and his dark, practical clothing.
“Well, whaddya know, she can be good after all… Waitin’ for me all nice and pretty just like I asked. All it takes is an order from your Daddy to get you actin’ right again, ain’t that right, babygirl? Obedient lil’ thing…” He takes your chin between his thumb and forefinger as he speaks, keeping your eyes trained on his. You nod up at him, doe-eyed and dazed, already feeling yourself beginning to slip into that familiar saccharine headspace.
Every time you had previously tried your hand at bratting, it never lasted very long, and tonight was already proving to be no different. He was right, after all, it doesn’t take more than a command, a look, a gentle grasp of your chin, to remind you of your desire to be good for him.
“What, Daddy doesn’t get a proper greetin’ after a long day o’ work? You already that far gone f’ me, can’t use your words proper like a big girl?”
“H-hi, Daddy… Missed you today,” you half-whisper, your voice sounding a little higher and further away than it did earlier in the day.
“Yeah, I know y’ did… I’ll bet your lil’ panties are ‘bout soaked through already, bet you left a wet spot on your fuckin’ desk chair just from daydreamin’ about what I was gonna do to you tonight, hm?”
Another silent nod accompanied by a pitiful little whimper. The blazing fire in your gut from this afternoon is quickly being replaced by something much more easily tamed, something more akin to a flickering candle flame than a wildfire. You struggle to keep your eyelids open as they begin to feel heavier with submission.
A stern look and a ticked jaw is enough for you to correct your wordless response.
“Y-yes, Daddy…”
“And what is it that you think I’m gonna do with you tonight, babygirl? Speak up, now…”
You rack your brain for a moment, suddenly unable to remember any of the depraved fantasies you had been conjuring up all day instead of replying to emails. You eventually land on a relatively straightforward answer.
“I th-think you’re gonna… gonna fuck the attitude outta me, t-teach me a lesson… right, Daddy?”
He lets out a dark chuckle, releasing your chin from his hold to give your cheek a couple of condescending pats instead.
“Aww, dumb lil’ thing… you thought Daddy was gonna touch you at all tonight, make that pathetic lil’ pussy cum after the stunts you were pullin’ today? Nah, I don’t think so… Open that slutty fuckin’ mouth.”
You’re reeling, taken aback by his harsh words, words that were certainly not in any of the countless scenarios you had been imagining at work. There’s a long beat of silence as you struggle to process his command.
You hear the smack across your face before you feel the heated sting of it, and it prompts a debauched mewl to spill from your parted lips.
“I said open your fuckin’ mouth…”
Your jaw falls slack in an instant, your pulsing cunt releasing an ashamed wave of wetness at the degrading slap. Joel shoves his thumb inside your waiting mouth, and you wrap your lips around it obediently as you swirl your tongue along its calloused landscape. It tastes salty, a little dirty, and you like it.
“Good girl, suck on Daddy’s thumb, tha’s it… dumb whore’ll suck on anything Daddy puts in her mouth, won’t she? Desperate lil’ thing… Bet you wish it was this fat cock instead, don’t you baby?”
You whine and nod around him, your hole squeezing around nothing as you look up at him with pleading eyes.
“Well… that’s just too fuckin’ bad, ain’t it? Tonight’s not about what you want, you can gimme that sad puppy look all you like, sugar, not gonna change anythin’...”
He pulls his thumb out of your mouth, and your slick lips try to chase after it until he wipes it clean on the side of your face. His hands make quick work of opening his stained work jeans and freeing his stiff cock from his briefs, taking it into one hand and beginning to pump it with languid strokes. He grabs a fistful of hair at the base of your skull with his free hand and taps the leaking head of his length against your cheek, adding to the dampness there from your own saliva.
“This what you want?” Tap tap tap. “You want Daddy’s cock? Hm? This what you been thinkin’ about all day, dirty girl?” He rocks his hips back and forth as he speaks, smearing his arousal along your skin.
You can’t help but squirm as a humiliated heat begins to pool in your tummy.
“Yes, Daddy, please let me have it, wan’ it so bad…” you beg.
He releases your hair and pulls his cock away from your face, making a show of massaging it and taunting you with what he won’t let you have.
“Nah, you ain’t gettin’ any of Daddy’s cock tonight, baby… In fact, I’m gonna stand right here and take care of m’self, and you’re gonna find somethin’ to rub that soakin’ cunt on while I watch…”
As the last of his words leave his lips, he steps one foot forward and nudges it between your thighs, looking at you expectantly. You lower your head to face his steel-toed work boot, covered in dust and dirt from his day at the construction site. Your mind still too deep in the clouds to understand what he’s asking of you, you lift your eyes back up to him for guidance. He juts his chin out in a silent “go on, then”, and you return your confused gaze back to his boot, the toe of which is positioned just in front of your aching heat. Your breath hitches and your eyes go wide as you finally realize: he wants to pleasure himself to the sight of you getting yourself off on his boot.
All at once, it falls into place how he wants the night to unfold. He wants to deny you. Deny you of his touch, his cock, even the privilege of making him feel good yourself… all because you acted out, disobeyed him, tested his limits.
“We understand each other, darlin’?”
“Y-yes, Daddy…” You meet his eyes as you speak, voice coming out a little unsteady. Any confidence you had while you were teasing him this afternoon is long gone, fully submitting to him now and completely at his mercy. He didn’t need to fuck you in order to put you in your place, he knew plenty of other much more degrading ways to rid you of your bratty attitude, to remind you of who you belong to.
You position your cunt over the filthy toe of his boot, the gusset of your lacy panties now completely saturated with your wetness. Your hands planted on either side of his leg, you try an experimental grind onto the leather-covered steel. A bolt of electricity shoots from your swollen clit to your fevered cheeks, burning with the eroticism of being made to humiliate yourself like this. He allows you to wrap your arms around his calf, using his sturdy form as leverage to rub yourself harder and faster against the solid material.
“Look at you, humpin’ my boot like a fuckin’ dog… that’s just what y’ are, ain’t it? Daddy’s lil’ puppy…” he teases, spurring you on with his words and the indecent sounds of his wet fist working along his thick cock.
You let out an involuntary yelp at the new pet name, which he’s quick to catch with a huff through his nose.
“Oh, she likes that, don’t she? Y’ like that, sweetheart, bein’ Daddy’s good girl, his obedient lil’ puppy? Yeah, I know y’ do… I got you trained good, don’t I? Do just about anything I want, won’t you? Got you rubbin’ that slutty pussy on my fuckin’ boot, for Christ’s sake, barely even had to ask… fuckin’ pathetic.”
The degradation makes your stomach swirl with a cocktail of embarrassment and pleasure. Your cunt flutters as you continue your frantic movements, releasing broken whimpers that sound something like uh huh and yes, Daddy. You’re sure that your slick has to be dripping down his boot by now, soaking straight through the leather and pooling onto the hardwood. You wonder if he might punish you for that, too, for making a mess of him and your freshly mopped floors. Just the thought of it has your hips picking up the pace, desperate to reach your high.
Your eyes are shut tightly as you pursue your orgasm, but you can still hear the shallow pumps of Joel’s fist and his stuttering breaths that indicate he’s close to his own release.
“Yeah, grind that sloppy fuckin’ puppy cunt on Daddy’s boot, there ya go… lookin’ like a goddamn bitch in heat… desperate whore… c’mon, puppy, make a fuckin’ mess for me…”
“I’m gonna cum, Daddy, gonna–”
Just as you feel yourself about to crest the wave of your climax, he pulls his foot out from under you and yanks your head back by another fistful of hair.
“Open up, puppy,” he groans as he splashes his hot release all over your face, aiming most of it around your mouth as you cry out from the denial of your own pleasure.
“Look at you, filthy girl… So pretty for Daddy, all covered in me,” he coos as the last few milky drops land on your cheek. Before any of it can start to drip, he scoops it up with his thumb and feeds it to you a bit at a time, and you continue to suck his finger into your eager mouth once again.
When your face is fully cleaned of his spend, he pulls his thumb from between your lips for a final time with a pop, and you stick out your tongue to show him you’ve swallowed everything he’s given you.
“Good girl,” he praises, petting the side of your hair in soothing strokes. “What do you say to Daddy, hm?”
“Th-thank you…” you choke out, still trying to steady your voice.
“And what else?” he asks.
You take a deep breath. “And… I’m sorry, Daddy,” you relent.
“For what, sweet girl?”
This was always your least favorite part, the part you struggled with the most: admitting that you were wrong.
“For being a brat today, for not listening and disrespecting you…” Your posture deflates, wondering if you should continue your confession. You remember one of the ground rules that was laid out when you first entered this dynamic with him, the one about how important communication is, and decide to keep going. “I jus’ feel like you’ve hardly paid any attention to me the past few days…” You start to sniffle as you speak, the overwhelm of it all finally catching up with you.
“Oh…” he breathes sympathetically. “Here, can you stand up, babygirl? C’mon, come sit on Daddy’s lap for a minute.”
He offers you his hands, and you use them to push yourself up onto shaky legs, feeling like a newborn foal. You wrap your arms around his neck and he scoops you up, carrying you bridal-style back to your cozy spot on the couch. He situates you in his lap, wrapping you up in your blanket again, and you bury your face in the warm expanse of skin between his shoulder and neck. You inhale through your nose, smiling to yourself and sighing contentedly when your senses are flooded with his natural comforting smell.
“I know I’ve been workin’ some real late nights recently… I’m sorry about that, honey,” he apologizes, rubbing comforting circles around your upper back.
“‘S okay, Daddy, ‘s not your fault,” you say into his skin.
“But I shoulda made more of an effort to give you some lovin’ anyway, I shouldn’t have had to wait for you to brat on me… Look at me, baby.” You lift your head and meet his sincere gaze, his eyes flicking back and forth between yours. “I’m sorry, darlin’.”
“I’m sorry too, Daddy.”
“I know y’ are, sweet girl, I know…”
You exchange warm smiles, and he curls his pointer finger under your chin to pull your face toward his, placing a delicate kiss to your lips. He settles both of his large hands on either side of your face before breaking the kiss to press your foreheads together. You close your eyes and try to match his breathing, enjoying this moment with him.
After a minute or so, you break the silence. “So… puppy, huh? That’s a new one,” you giggle.
He laughs and releases your face from his hold, meeting your eyes again. “Jus’ wanted to try somethin’ new, I guess…” He snakes a hand under the blanket, thumbing over the damp crotch of your panties. “And judgin’ by this lil’ mess down here, I take it you liked it. Hm, pretty girl?”
Still sensitive from your earlier denial, you let out a high pitched little whine and an involuntary buck of your hips into his hand.
“See? Even sound like a lil’ puppy… Daddy’s good girl. You want Daddy to train you, babygirl, you wanna be his pretty lil’ pet?”
“Uh huh, yes, Daddy, please…” Your face is buried in his chest as you rut into his hand, squeezing it between your thighs, back to the same place you were just before he pulled his boot out from underneath you.
“Daddy was so mean earlier, wasn’t he? Not lettin’ you cum, punishin’ you for actin’ up… But I think you’ve learned your lesson now, huh puppy? C’mon, sweet girl, let go, soak Daddy’s hand…”
And you do. With his permission, you cry out, muscles spasming and cunt twitching as you finally ride out the climax you’ve been chasing all night. You’re panting by the time you start to come down after what feels like several minutes, exhaustion hitting you hard all at once. When some of your awareness has come back to you, you realize that Joel is gently rocking you back and forth on his lap, petting the back of your head and gently shushing in your ear.
“Shh, shh, you’re alright, babygirl, I gotcha, Daddy’s gotcha… So good for me, baby, my precious girl…”
When your breathing evens out once more, you muster the strength to lift your head from its place against his heart, and he chuckles at the sleepy and sated look on your face as you blink slowly at him.
“My lil’ puppy’s all tuckered out, huh? Let’s get you up to bed, darlin’, Daddy’ll tuck you in.”
He stands up with a groan, cradling you in his muscled arms, and carries you into the bedroom. You’re already drifting off to sleep when he sits you on the bed, carefully stripping you of your ruined underwear and helping you into a clean, sensible pair of cotton undies. He retrieves one of his oversized “Miller Contracting” shirts from his drawer and slips it over your head, helping your weak arms through the sleeves. Brushing your hair away from your face, he places a scruffy kiss to your hairline and helps you lay down onto the cool sheets. He pulls the covers up all the way over your shoulders, the way he knows you like, and smiles to himself when you burrow yourself into the sheets.
He takes a quick shower to rid himself of the grime and grit he collected on his skin during the day, and slips into bed beside you. Another private smile and a small shake of his head when you instinctually turn to face him and snuggle into his warm body, wrapping your arms around the breadth of his upper arm and inhaling the masculine cologne of his body wash.
He reaches across his chest to gently scratch at the top of your head, prompting a dreamy little noise from you. “Just like I said,” he whispers to himself, “a lil’ puppy.”
He wouldn’t have you any other way.

I don't wanna look at anything else now that I saw you I don't wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
SYNOPSIS:  Between the endless flirty banter or secret looks of longing, the line between you and your boss had always been slightly blurred. PAIRING: CEO!Wonwoo x Assistant!Reader [with appearances by Mingyu (a self-proclaimed Cupid extraordinaire), Soonyoung & Joshua as supportive besties, Seungkwan & Seokmin as the life of the party, Seungcheol (a menace), and a brief glimpse of Chan.]

WORDS: The entirety of both parts is 27.1k. Part 1 is 15.4k and part 2 is 11.6k.
WARNINGS: Slowburn, pining from both ends. Reader is constantly in a silent crisis when it comes to feelings, and Wonwoo is possessive (both in and out of the bedroom). Mentions of alcohol, cursing, and grinding on the dancefloor. Wonwoo is a slightly hard!dom but talks you through it so sweetly it'll make you melt. Oral (both recieving), unprotected sex (wrap it before you tap it), messy orgasms. Slight choking, dirty talk, alludes to squirting. Wonwoo is a pussy fiend.
A/N: Shoutout to the plethora of billionaire CEO books that I've been reading recently that ended up inspiring this piece and subsequently pulled me out of a three, almost four, year writing drought. But now I'm finding out that Tumblr has this stupid fucking character block limit that's not letting me post the fic in its entirety so it'll be split into two parts. Annoying ass rule. Anyway, It's good to be back! 🫶🏻

The bustling street of people has you grumbling underneath your breath as you weave in and out of the crowd, the soles of your heels clicking against the pavement as you walk the last two blocks to get to your office. The early morning traffic of business men and women alike are already getting on your nerves as they take their time getting to their own jobs, taking strides small and slow enough that you’re ready to wring every single one of their necks as you bypass them while juggling the carrier of coffee in your hand.
A string of obscenities is falling from your mouth as you stumble inside the office building, clutching onto the coffees for dear life as you manage to make your way to the elevators without spilling the cups. Pressing the top floor, you’re heaving a sigh of relief as the elevator ‘dings’, a grumble escaping you as your heels click against the floor with each stride you take. Scattered murmurs around the office have you straining to hear the morning gossip, your eyes curiously peering around at the worried faces of your coworkers.
“He’s miserable today.”
Whirring around, you meet the wide smile of Mingyu, the head of finance and Wonwoo’s right hand man. You roll your eyes at his words before grabbing a coffee from the carrier and handing it to the man.
“When is he not miserable?” You counter, making Mingyu chuckle.
“When he’s around you,” he teases, making your face flush.
“Shut up,” you hiss, glaring at him. “He’s always miserable around me. If I didn’t know any better, I would think he hated me.”
He scoffs at your words before taking a sip of his coffee.
“Oh please,” he grinned. “You bring order and excitement to his life. Two things which he desperately needs.”
You shoot Mingyu a pointed look as you grip the last two coffees in the carrier, your head gesturing towards his office as your spin on your heel.
“Get back to work, Mingyu.”
The taller man grumbles, his lips forming into a pout as he calls behind you.
“Don’t tell me what to do!”
Ignoring his response, you make your way towards your desk. Placing the carrier down, you set your laptop bag onto your desk before unwrapping your purse from around you and setting it on your chair. Grabbing your coffee in one hand, you grab the remaining one in the carrier with your other hand before turning towards the open door behind your desk. He hasn’t noticed your presence yet, the man still immersed in the papers he’s reading.
Leaning against the doorframe, you let a smirk grace your lips as you gazed at your unsuspecting boss. His eyebrows are furrowed in concentration, glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, and he’s frowning as he reads over the words on the paper. Along with his serious and reserved nature, he was devastatingly handsome. Sharp eyes, high bridged nose, and lips that curled into a feline smirk when he was feeling cocky enough. His looks paired with the strong build and tall statue made him look nothing less than a god.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you break yourself out of analyzing your boss as you announce your presence.
“You know it wouldn’t kill you to smile every now and again.”
The sound of your voice has the man’s head snapping up to look at you, sharp eyes shooting you a pointed look as you grinned at your boss. Pushing yourself off of the doorframe, you walk over to him and place the other coffee cup down onto his desk, biting back a laugh as he stares at you with a blank look on his face.
“Now I understand why women get annoyed when people tell them to smile.”
His deadpan response only makes your smile grow wider as you take a seat in one of the chairs in front of him, your own cup of coffee nestled in your hands as you take a sip.
“I’m just saying,” you hold a hand up in defense. “If you keep frowning, your face is going to get stuck like that. And you’ll get wrinkles”
“Maybe then people will leave me alone,” he grumbled.
“Unfortunately, you’re a CEO, Mr. Jeon,” you point out. “You’re going to have to meet with people whether you want to or not.”
Wonwoo hums before he leans forward to grab his coffee.
Thick rimmed glasses are perched on the bridge of his nose, his sharp eyes devoid of any amusement.
“If I asked you to cancel all of my meetings for today, would you?”
You splutter into your coffee cup at his question, eyes widening at the serious look on his face.
“Please don’t tell me you’re serious,” you whined, shoulders slumping in defeat. “It’s already eight thirty and your first meeting is in half an hour!”
Wonwoo purses his lips, eyes glinting under the fluorescents.
“I’m sure they would understand,” he reassures.
It’s then you catch him biting back a small smile, realization washing over you as your lips part in surprise.
“Are - are you – making a joke?”
Wonwoo shrugs, this time letting his lips curl into a feline-like smirk.
“Not a very good one, apparently,” he chuckles, making you let out a laugh of surprise.
“Look at you, Mr. Jeon,” you beam. “You can smile every once in a while.”
Shaking his head at your words, Wonwoo folds his hands on his desk before leaning comfortably against the back of his chair.
“Were you able to set up the meeting with Seungcheol?”
You nod, crossing your legs as you adjust your posture on the chair.
“He’ll be meeting us in two weeks,” you informed. “Mingyu and I are already working on the numbers and stats as well as putting together the powerpoint to present.”
Wonwoo nods in acknowledgement, his glasses slightly sliding down the bridge of his nose at the movement, and you try to ignore the muscles in his arm as you watch him push them back up.
“Good,” he praises. “I expect nothing less than perfect with the two of you.”
You swallow thickly at the praise, adjusting your legs once more as you try not to shrink under his gaze.
“Right,” you murmur, avoiding his eyes. “I should get to work.”
Smoothing out your skirt as you stand up, you turn to walk away from Wonwoo when he calls out our name, your head turning back to look at him as he gestures towards the coffee.
“Thank you,” he calls out. “For the drink.”
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, not quite sure why he chose now of all the times to thank you for the drink you bring him everyday.
“You’re welcome.”
Pushing aside the confusion, you turn back around and get started on your day.

“(Y/N)!”
Soonyoung’s whine reverberates from the speaker as you wince, masking it with a smile as you look at your friend on the screen.
With your busy work schedule, you haven't had much time to see or hang out with your friends, gaining you whines and groans of ‘We miss you’s!’ from the group whenever you have a chance to Facetime them.
“Hi Soonie,” you greet, beaming with a small wave. “Happy almost birthday!”
Soonyoung’s grin widens at your words, the blonde bouncing happily on the other side of the screen.
“Thank you, honey!” He responds. “I was actually calling about that. We’re going to the HYBE Club on Friday for my birthday and I wanted to see if you were able to go.”
Pursing your lips, you perch your phone up against the corner of your computer screen as you toggle around the apps, pulling up your calendar and scanning over the dates. The empty space for Friday’s date stares back at you and you almost want to cry out of relief at the sight of a rare day off, your lips curving into a bright smile as you peer down at Soonyoung’s face on the screen.
“Believe it or not,” you started, grinning at your friend. “I’m off.”
A joyous cheer escapes the blonde, muffled shouts in the background indicating that your friends had heard the whole thing and were collectively celebrating at the fact that you were able to join them. Soonyoung beams at the camera.
“We’re going to have a blast, (Y/N)!” He says, excitedly. “Meet us at HYBE Club around five! We’re going to start out with dinner and drinks!”
“And dancing!”
Dokyeom’s shout echoes in your airpod and you can’t help but to giggle as he and Soonyoung wrestle over the phone, the former’s bright smile coming into view as he grins at you through the phone.
“Hi (Y/N)!” He greets, his infectious smile making you beam back at him.
“Hi ‘Kyeomie.” you coo, blowing him a kiss. “I miss you!”
“We miss you too!” He whines, pouting. “You’ve been working too hard lately.”
“I know I have,” you frown. “But I’m excited to be able to have a night with you guys.”
“We can’t wait (Y/N)!”
Joshua and Seungkwan shout from the background and you can’t help but to laugh as the four of them wrestle over the phone. You were so preoccupied in watching the chaos unfold amongst your friends that you hadn’t noticed the presence that stood behind you, the deep timbre almost making you jump out of your skin.
“Am I interrupting something?”
You’re clambering to hit the end button, heat flooding your cheeks as you place the phone face down on your desk as you swivel your chair to face Wonwoo, your boss standing behind you with his arms folded over his chest. Butterflies flutter wildly in your stomach as you catch the playful glint in his eyes as he leans against the doorway.
“N – not at all, Mr. Jeon,” you stuttered out. “I was just finishing my lunch break.”
Wonwoo nods, a small frown on his face as his gaze trails over you.
“Ah,” he responds, and you catch the slight slump of his shoulders at your words. “I was actually coming to see if you wanted to grab lunch with me.”
Your heart stilled, the butterflies multiplying tenfold as you mirror his frown.
“Oh,” you mutter, dejectedly. “I’m sorry, sir. If I had known –”
“It’s alright, (Y/N),” he brushes off your apology with a wave of his hand. “Now I know for next time to catch you a little sooner.”
Offering you a small smile, he bows his head in your direction before walking off to the elevators. You’re still frowning as you watch his retreating form, your heart tugging regretfully in your chest, a small sigh escaping you as you slump back defeated in your chair.
“Yikes,” a voice chimes from behind you. “Break his heart, why don’t you?”
Your eyes narrowed into a glare as your head snapped to look at a smirking Mingyu, his tall stature leaning against your desk.
“Shut up, Mingyu,” you bite out, making the man laugh.
“The man just wanted to treat you to a nice meal and you turned him down,” he tuts, shaking his head. “That’s cold.”
“I already ate!” You defended. “I wasn’t going to just sit there and watch him eat.”
Mingyu purses his lips, shoulders shrugging in thought.
“Maybe he likes that,” he grins. “Maybe he just wanted to be in your company.”
You roll your eyes at his words, waving him off as you turn to your computer.
“I’m in his company enough,” you muttered, making Mingyu snicker.
“Maybe he wants more than your company.”
Mingyu wiggles his eyebrows at you teasingly, chortling with laughter as you chuck a pen in his direction.
“Leave me alone, Gyu!”
“I’m just saying,” he grins, holding his hands up in defense. “It’s something to think about.”
“It’s nothing to think about,” you grumbled. “Go back to your office and mind your business.”
Mingyu’s laugh follows him as he walks away, leaving you to mull over his words as your mind fills with the image of you laying in your boss’s arms, heat flooding between your legs at the thought of your bare body pressed against his silk sheets.
Ignoring your increased heart rate, you’re turning back to the computer and grumbling under your breath.
Go to hell, Kim Mingyu.
Tumblr media
Tongues and teeth clash together in a bruising kiss as you’re clambering to sit on the desk, a whimper falling from your lips as hands rip open your blouse, buttons flying everywhere as your chest becomes exposed. There’s a growl against your lips, teeth clamping down onto your bottom one as greedy hands encase themselves around your covered breasts. If the bruising kiss hadn’t left you breathless, it was the rough kneading to your bra-clad mounds that had your lips parting in ecstasy. Frenzied lips leave a hot trail down the expanse of your neck as you’re perched on the desk, legs wrapping around lean hips.
“God, you’re perfect,” he grits out, tongue sweeping over the valley between your breasts. “Perfect for me and only me. Aren’t you, sweetheart?”
You moan at his words, back arching into his touch as he reaches behind to unclasp your bra.
“Only you, Mr. Jeon.”
A salacious smirk crosses his lips as he peers up at you from between your breasts, glasses haphazardly sitting on the bridge of his nose, and he’s tonguing at your flesh as he slides your bra straps down your arms, mouth ghosting over a pert nipple before taking it fully in his mouth –
And then chimes are going off.
There’s an obnoxious ring filling the air as you bolt upright in bed, heat pooling in between your legs as you try to grip onto your surroundings.
Much to your dismay, you’re in your apartment – alone – filled with nothing but the remnants of your burning arousal. Your eyebrows furrowed in frustration, a string of curses falling from your lips as you’re fishing around for the obnoxious ringtone that had disturbed your scandalous dream. Peering down at the screen, you glare at the caller, mentally condemning them into next week as you press the answer button.
“You’re a dead man.”
Your words are harsh as you answer the call, a whine falling from the receiving end as you glare into the empty room.
“I’m sorry,” Mingyu apologizes, making you scoff. “But it’s an emergency.”
You grit your teeth as he speaks, your body refusing to get up from the bed as sleep and arousal still swirls in the pit of your stomach.
“I swear to god, Mingyu, if someone is not dying –”
“The presentation got pushed up.”
Your threat falls short, lips parting in shock as your eyes widen in alarm.
“You’re joking.”
“It’s bad, (Y/N),” he says quietly into the phone. “I’ve never seen him like this before.”
A heavy sigh falls from you as you gnaw at the inside of your lip.
“Does he want anything?” You ask softly. “Coffee? Breakfast? A hammer to destroy his office?”
Mingyu chuckles on the other end.
“Coffee is always good for him,” he pauses, taking a deep breath. “A blowjob might work too.”
“Go fuck yourself,” you scoff, and Mingyu bursts out laughing at your response. “Give me an hour to get ready and I’ll be in.”
“Hurry, please,” he whines. “He’s doing that thing where he stares catatonically into nothing and it’s starting to scare me.”
You snort at that, shaking your head at Mingyu.
“Just give him encouraging pats on the back,” you joked, grinning. “And tell him he’s doing a great job.”
“He’s not going to like it if I do it,” Mingyu grumbles. “He only likes you.”
“Suck it up you big baby,” you tease. “You’ll be fine.”
Not waiting to hear his response, you end the call with a huff as you flop back down onto your pillows, staring up at the ceiling. The intense burn that had ignited between your thighs had simmered to a dull ache, the arousal from the very vivid dream a now distant memory. Clenching your thighs together to soothe the remnants of your desire, you ran a hand over your face before reluctantly rolling out of bed.

On a normal day, most of your coworkers would have still been half asleep, dragging their feet around the office as they fought off the remnants of slumber. The morning hours were usually somber, few words spoken between each other as they tried to finish their morning coffees.
Today was not one of those days.
The second you step out of the elevator, you’re met with utter chaos of chatter and frantic pacing — almost like they were chickens with their heads cut off. You’re frozen to the spot as you watch the group around you shove papers into each other's hands and point in the direction of the copier, demands upon demands being yelled at to one another.
“Jesus Christ,” you muttered.
Clutching the carrier of coffee in your hand, you weave in between the frazzled group as you make your way straight to Wonwoo’s office, not even bothering to drop your stuff on your desk as you push his door open. Mingyu sits with his back to you, head snapping up to look at you with a sigh of relief as you make your way into the office. Across from him sits your boss who, true to Mingyu’s word, was staring into the abyss with his hands folded on his desk.
Cautiously you’re walking over to Wonwoo and placing a gentle hand on his back, your other one putting the coffee on his desk as you offer a soothing pat to his broad stature. Wonwoo had abandoned his glasses, the specs splayed out carelessly in front of him, and his sharp eyes are settling on you as you rubbed his back. As your gaze met his, you were reminded of the dream you had before Mingyu had so rudely interrupted it.
The image of Wonwoo laying you out on this very desk, mouth on your breasts and hands resting somewhere a boss’s hands shouldn’t be on their assistant. Heat fills your body as you watch him lean into your touch, his stern expression softening, and he’s graciously taking the coffee from you as he grabs your hand in his.
“Thank you for this,” he accepts, graciously. “You always seem to know when I need it.”
From out of the corner of your eye, you see the smug smirk on Mingyu’s face and you fight back the urge to kick him in the shin as you offer your boss a small smile.
“You don’t have to keep thanking me,” you reply, squeezing his hand in reassurement before pulling away. “I am your assistant, after all. It’s my job to know these things.”
The brief softened gaze on his face hardens once more at your words and he’s watching in silence as you move to the opposite side of the desk to take a seat next to Mingyu. His sharp gaze falls over the two of you, eyes scrutinizing your every move, and you push away the heat blooming in between your legs as you cross them.
Mingyu peers between the two of you, an eyebrow quirked attentively before he’s leaning forward in his chair.
“Do you want to break the news or should I?”
Wonwoo’s jaw clenched, his expression stony as he looks at you.
“Seungcheol asked me to push up the deadline,” he pauses, and you catch him gritting his teeth in aggravation.
“How soon?” You ask, nervously taking a sip of your coffee. Wonwoo doesn’t miss a beat.
“This Friday.”
The coffee almost splutters from your mouth as you choke in surprise, eyes widening as you look between the two men.
“That’s in three days!” You exclaim. “Not to mention I’m off that day!”
Mingyu offers you a pitiful expression while Wonwoo remains stoic, the difference between them comparable to night and day.
“Not anymore, you’re not,” Wonwoo denies, and you feel your heart clench. “We need you here.”
Resentment begins to build in your body as you shoot your boss an incredulous look, anger boiling in your veins.
“Why did you even agree to this?” You asked harshly, making Wonwoo tense up. “You could’ve asked him to give you until at least Monday.”
Wonwoo’s lips press into a thin line and you just know he’s holding back from scolding you in front of Mingyu.
“It was out of my control,” he shrugs, and the nonchalant response has you rising out of your seat as the anger inside of you bubbles.
“Bullshit!” You bite back, and Wonwoo’s face hardens.
“Watch yourself, (Y/N),” he warns, making you scoff.
“I’m allowed to be angry, Mr. Jeon,” you point out. “Very rarely do I get a day off and the one time I do, you make the decision to take that away from me.”
Wonwoo’s jaw clenched are your words, his sharp eyes glinting with fury as he looks down the bridge of his nose at you.
“You are my assistant, Ms. (L/N),” he bites out. “When I’m here, you’re here.”
You were certain that if you had been a cartoon character, steam would’ve been emitting from your ears as you glare at the man in front of you.
“I have plans,” you grit harshly. Wonwoo doesn’t bat an eye.
“Reschedule them.”
Mingyu can only watch the two of you with an open mouth, utterly shocked at the exchange happening before him.
In your last attempt to make him change his mind, you grit your teeth as you shoot your boss a look of fury.
“I have a date.”
The air between the three of you stilled.
You watched as Wonwoo’s shoulders tensed, a flash of jealousy in his eyes as he glowered at you from his desk. Mingyu’s eyes bugged out of his head, the businessman immediately pushing himself out his seat as he held his hands up in defense.
“I — I don’t think this concerns me,” he excuses himself, brown eyes glimmering in worry as he shoots you a look. “Come find me later when you’re both ready to talk about the presentation.”
You and Wonwoo stay silent as Mingyu walks out of the office, the door slamming shut behind him, and it’s then that Wonwoo stands up from his desk. His tall stature towering over the wood, a move he made with clients when he was trying to intimidate them — a move you’ve watched him make with everyone but you.
“I’m sure whoever it is will understand that your job comes first,” he pauses, his voice cold. “That I come first.”
You stand your ground, your furious gaze borrowing into his.
“Are you insisting that I don’t deserve a personal life?”
Wonwoo doesn’t back down in the slightest.
“I’m saying that this is your job,” he reiterates. “You’re my assistant. I’m your priority. When I’m needed, you’re needed.”
“So you’re telling me that any plans I make or have planned already have to be flexible so that I can accommodate you?”
“Precisely.”
A sharp inhale comes from you, angry tears threatening to spill over your cheeks as you fight them back. Your fists clench at your sides as you send your boss a menacing glare. You knew there was no way around this, you knew that no matter how much you defended yourself Wonwoo wasn’t going to back down.
You exhale slowly, keeping the tears at bay.
“It seems I don’t have much of a choice, do I?” You concede, trying to stabilize your shaky voice.
Clutching your coffee in your hand, you move to walk away from him when his warm hand encloses around yours, the hardened gaze he had kept focused on you softening as he caught sight of the tears pooling in your eyes.
“(Y/N)…”
Ripping your hand away from him, you shoot daggers towards him as you walk towards the door.
“I’m taking a walk,” you spat, voice quivering with emotion. “Don’t come after me.”
With that, you’re storming out of his office, making sure to slam the door behind you.
Hot tears are spilling over your cheeks as you frantically press the elevator button, your head hung low as you try to mask the sight of you crying as you wait for the doors to open, your body trembling with angry sobs as you bite them back, gritting your teeth in anger as the elevator dings. Stepping inside, you turn to face the lobby and catch the sight of a concerned Mingyu watching you as you press the close button.
As soon as the doors closed and you’re heading down, you’re pulling your phone from your pocket and dialing Soonyoung’s number, the blonde almost immediately answering the FaceTime call with a shocked look on his face.
“(Y/N), honey? What’s going on?”
His caring tone draws a fresh batch of tears in your eyes as you step outside of the elevator and walk into the lobby, making a beeline for the bathroom as you lock yourself in a stall. Defeated sobs wrack your body as you try to catch your breath.
“Soonie,” you cried, hastily wiping your tears. “I’m sorry I’m calling you like this.”
Soonyoung shakes his head, concern in his eyes as he stares back at you through the screen.
“Don’t apologize baby,” he reassured, softly. “We’ve all had bad days.”
Wiping your nose, you sniffle quietly as you nod, acknowledging his words.
“What happened, honey?”
“I think I’m going to have to miss out on your birthday, Soonie,” you say quietly, making Soonyoung whine.
“What?! Why?!”
“That big presentation that wasn’t due for two more weeks got pushed up to this Friday instead.”
“Oh, what the fuck?!” He groaned. “Aren’t you supposed to be off anyways?”
A bitter laugh escapes you at that, your teeth gritting together in anger as you nod.
“Keyword is supposed to,” you bite out, rolling your eyes. “But my boss said that I now have to come in. Actually — he pretty much said that I’m not entitled to a personal life.”
Soonyoung’s mouth opens in shock at that, his eyes widening.
“Are you fucking serious?” He asks, flabbergasted.
“I wish I wasn’t,” you affirm, sadly. “He said that since I’m his assistant – anywhere he is, I have to be right next to him. Plans or no plans, off of work or not.”
The blonde scoffs, eyes narrowing into a glare.
“That’s bullshit,” he spat, and you can’t help but to laugh without humor.
“Yeah,” you muttered. “I said the same thing.”
You watch as Soonyoung purses his lips in thoughts, a hopeful look crossing his features as he looks at you through the phone.
“The presentation shouldn’t take that long, right?” He asks. “Like you can skip the dinner and then just meet us right at the club instead!”
Your sullen expression morphs into a hopeful one as you consider his words, your head slowly nodding in acknowledgement as you offer the blonde a bright smile.
“Yeah,” you agreed. “I guess you’re right.”
“I’m always right,” he teases, making you scoff playfully.
“Whatever you say, Soonie,” you jest, making him laugh. “I should get back upstairs…”
Soonyoung smiles at you through the phone, offering you a gesture of encouragement as he grins.
“Deep breaths, honey!” He chimes. “Don’t let that asshole get to you.”
Smiling at him, you both exchange your goodbye before hanging up. A heavy sigh escapes you as you take a deep breath to compose yourself once more before unlocking the stall and walking to the sink. The pitiful expression that rested on your features made you want to sink down to the floor in embarrassment, your gaze flickering over the mascara that had streaked your cheeks from the waterfall of tears. Grumbling to yourself, you reach for some paper towels before wetting it under the sink and cleaning off the remnants of your breakdown, mentally cursing Wonwoo into oblivion.
Once you were set, you took an extra minute to collect your thoughts, trying to settle your still enraged mind as you made a silent vow to ignore the man you called your boss for the remainder of the week.
Should be easy, right?
Wrong.
With the silent vow in place, you had walked into the office the next day with every intention of ignoring him.
Until you catch sight of the vase of roses that sat on your desk.
The beautiful red petals bloomed in the crystal casing, the fragrance filling your senses as you leaned down to smell them. A solemn expression crosses your features as you pluck the card from between the petals, lips pursing in thought as you stare down at the writing.
‘I can’t do this without you.’
Your heart feels like it’s tearing at the seams as you look down at his handwriting, the messy scrawl of his admittance sending your stomach into a frenzy of butterflies, and you’re peering into his opened office door to see his sharp gaze awaiting your reaction. The gesture was sweet, sure, but you were also human – a human with feelings and a life. So instead of thanking him, you’re pushing away those damned butterflies and turning your head away from him as you silently set up your desk.
You didn’t look back at him once.
Tumblr media
Despite other numerous attempts to gain your attention, you had successfully managed to give Wonwoo radio silence until it came time to get the presentation together. And, even then, you still sat tight-lipped as he and Mingyu went over the details of what’s to come within the next few hours as the three of you awaited Seungcheol’s arrival.
Your pen glides over your notepad as you jot down last minute ideas and thoughts, your tongue sticking out of the side of your mouth in concentration as you work quietly at the table. From the left of you, Mingyu types away at his laptop, quietly cursing at the powerpoint in front of him as he fixes the last minute details. To the right of you, you can already feel the pointed gaze in your direction from your boss as he sits silently beside the two of you, sharp eyes lingering on both yours and Mingyu’s forms as the two of you work diligently.
Wonwoo purses his lips, trying to bite back the amusement as he looks over at you two.
“I think this is the hardest I’ve ever seen you two work.”
Simultaneously, yours and Mingyu’s heads snap over to look at your boss, your eyes narrowed in an accusing glare while Mingyu’s twinkle with humor.
“We wouldn’t be working so hard if you hadn’t agreed to pushing up this damned meeting.”
Your voice comes out harsher than you intend to, but it doesn’t deter Wonwoo one bit.
“Ah,” he smirks. “She speaks.”
A menacing glare is shot towards him as you scoot your chair closer to Mingyu, trying to shift your attention back towards your notes, but you’re frozen in shock as Wonwoo grabs the back of your chair to slide you back closer to his side, sharp eyes gazing sadly at you.
“Look at me,” he murmurs, and you hear Mingyu cough awkwardly, trying not to watch the two of you as he types away at his laptop. “(Y/N), please.”
As much as you wanted to make him grovel a bit longer, you knew from the gifts and gestures he’d been giving you the past two days had been enough of an apology. So, reluctantly, you’re lifting your eyes to meet his brown ones, your breath catching in your throat as you hold his softened gaze. You can feel the butterflies begin to awaken in the pit of your stomach as your heart sped up in your chest, lips parting slightly as you stared at the devastatingly handsome man.
Reaching over, he’s gently grabbing your hand in his, all the while keeping his eyes on you.
“I’m sorry for making you come in on your day off,” he apologized, quietly. “I’m sorry for never giving you one to begin with.”
Wonwoo’s teeth grit as he tries to keep his expression neutral, his thumb gently soothes over the back of your hand.
“And I’m sorry for making you miss your… date.”
Date..? Oh – oh.
Your hardened gaze softens into one of understanding and you’re offering your boss a small smile, your hand turning in his as you clutch it.
“I forgive you,” you relent, squeezing his hand in reassurance. “And - I, uh, didn’t actually have a date.”
From out of the corner of your eye you see Mingyu’s head snap towards you, eyes wide as he looks between you and Wonwoo. The latter keeps his gaze on yours, the corners of his lips quivering ever so slightly as his sharp eyes trace for any sort of fabrication he can find. And then he laughs – a full, throwing his head back and cackling kind of laugh. One that sends your heart into overdrive as he grins widely.
“So you just wanted to enjoy some peace and quiet by yourself?” He asks, teasingly.
“No,” you deny, frowning. “I really did have plans, or rather, I still do after this. I’m going out for my friend’s birthday.”
Wonwoo’s eyes shine playfully as he pats your hand.
“It’s okay,” he grins. “As long as you forgive me and we get this presentation over and done with, you’ll be out of here in no time.”
As Wonwoo finishes speaking, the conference door all but flies open, a mass of blonde hair and a dimpled smile coming into view as Seungcheol walks through the door. The three of you stand simultaneously, nervous but warm smiles plastered on your faces as you greet the businessman. Wonwoo stands glued to the spot next to you as you watch Seungcheol greet Mingyu, the two shaking hands as they joke amongst themselves. It’s then that the severity and importance of this meeting finally hits you, your palms growing clammy with nerves as your brain clutters with what ifs and possible negative outcomes if everything fails between the two companies.
From behind you, Wonwoo must’ve noticed the sudden tension in your stature as he leans forward, a gentle hand placing itself on the small of your back as he leans in to brush his lips against your ear.
“Relax, sweetheart,” he murmurs quietly, his other hand reaching to squeeze yours in reassurance. “It’s going to be fine.”
Yet the warmth of his breath and the close proximity of his body pressing to yours as his cologne fills your senses does absolutely nothing to help your nerves. You squeeze his hand back in silent acknowledgement before dropping it as Seungcheol rounds on you, a bright smile on the blonde’s face as he offers you a hand.
“Ms. (Y/N),” he greets, beaming. “It’s always lovely to see you, beautiful.”
You can feel Wonwoo tense at the compliment and you fight the urge to rip your hand from his as you shake it, a tight-lipped smile being sent his way as he bowed your head.
“Nice to see you, Mr. Choi,” you greet. Seungcheol’s gaze falls between you and the man standing behind you, a knowing gleam in his eyes.
“Wonwoo you have yourself a dime here,” he compliments, smirking. “She has been nothing but amazing when it comes to the communication aspect. Not to mention she’s brilliant.”
Wonwoo keeps his hand on the small of your back while his other is outstretched towards his friend, the two shaking hands with a fierce grip as Wonwoo’s gaze hardens at the blonde.
“That she is,” he agreed. “I’m lucky to have her.”
Heat floods your cheeks at the competitive compliments between the two businessmen, a pleading look that screams ‘Help me’ is being sent towards Mingyu who stands behind Seungcheol with a puppy-like grin at the exchange, the taller man laughing quietly at your expense. Rolling your eyes, you break the silent competition between the two CEOs as you gesture towards the table.
“Shall we get started?”
Tumblr media
Five hours. The presentation lasted for five fucking hours.
Between the glitches happening within the powerpoint and the constant stutter of your voice, you were positive that Seungcheol was going to stop the three of you halfway and just walk out – but he didn’t. Instead the blonde sat with a grin of amusement as you and Mingyu presented the possible numbers and outcomes of the two companies coming together for the project. Wonwoo sat stoic beside him, sharp eyes glued to you as you closed out of the final slide, anxiously awaiting his friend’s response as you clasped your hands together behind your back.
Seungcheol is beaming at you, dimples protruding from his cheeks, and he’s turning towards Wonwoo as he points in your direction.
“I like her,” he begins. “She’s got a strong head on her shoulders.”
Turning back towards you, Seungcheol leans on his elbows as he gestures towards the presentation.
“Despite the small hiccups from the technology, you did great, (Y/N),” he continues, praising you. “Both you and Mingyu did so well putting all of this together. I appreciate the dedication and hard work you’ve done for this, truly. Both of you would be an incredible asset to my company and I would absolutely be a fool to turn down the offer of working with both my friend and his amazing team.”
Surprise floods your features as you and Mingyu shoot each other identical looks of shock.
“Is – is that a yes for the project?”
Seungcheol laughs, nodding his head in affirmation.
“That’s a definite yes,” he beams. “It was a yes from the very first email you had sent me, if I’m honest. I just wanted to see what ideas you all had in mind – and I wanted to see this one sweat it out a little bit.”
You stifle a laugh as the blonde points to the stoic man behind him, Wonwoo grumbling under his breath as he rolls his eyes at his friend.
“So you just wanted to see me suffer?” Wonwoo asks, no emotion in his voice.
“Pretty much,” Seungcheol beams with amusement.
Wonwoo shakes his head as he stands up from his chair, his broad stature cracking with the release of tension as he stretches from sitting for so long.
“That’ll be it for today,” he dismisses, shooting Seungcheol a pointed look. “I think we’ve all been tortured enough.”
A wave of relief washes over you as your shoulders slump slightly, the tension being released from your body as you clean up the remnants of the presentation. From beside you, Mingyu is shooting you a thumbs up, silently praising your efforts before he’s packing up his laptop and zooming out of the room. As you zip up your bag and turn to leave, Seungcheol is gently grabbing your wrist to stop you, a playful look in his eyes as he offers you a small smile.
“You’re an extraordinary woman, Ms. (Y/N),” he compliments, and you feel your cheeks heat up as you fight to keep eye contact. “I have half a mind to steal you from Wonwoo and make you my own assistant.”
You open your mouth to retort when you feel the warmth of your boss press behind you, and you don’t even have to look up at him to know that he’s glaring daggers at the blonde.
“She would never leave me,” he dismisses, voice cold. “If there’s one thing I admire the most about Ms. (Y/N), it’s that she’s loyal to those around her.”
Wonwoo never breaks eye contact with Seungcheol, the two glaring daggers at one another as they stand tall and proud.
“Right, sweetheart?”
You swallow thickly, rolling your eyes at the ego exchange between the two of them, and you playfully hit Wonwoo’s shoulder before grabbing your things.
“Both of you need to relax,” you jest, playfully. “Mr. Choi, I appreciate the compliment but I fear that this one needs me the most.”
Seungcheol smirks at that, a knowing look in his eyes as he looks between you and Wonwoo.
“I’m starting to see that,” he responds, coolly.
Wonwoo stays silent as you make your way to the door, a weary glance thrown between the two of them before you’re opening it with a call over your shoulder.
“Try not to let your ego’s get the best of the two of you while I’m gone, please.”
And with that, you’re out the door before you can see Seungcheol wiggle his eyebrows suggestively at Wonwoo, the latter sending a glare of warning at the blonde who now caught on to the situation.

“(Y/N)!”
Your gaze lands on a beaming Soonyoung as you make your way through the crowd of bodies, a matching grin dancing across your lips as you reach where he stood. His arm lazily drapes around your shoulder in a half hug, the man’s infectious giggle ringing over the blaring music. Returning the embrace, you hug him in greeting before breaking apart. You can feel your friend vibrating with excitement as he grabs your hand and pulls you over to the roped off section where the rest of your friends were occupying. As soon as you cross the threshold, there’s a glass of champagne being placed in your hand and Soonyoung is tugging you towards the group.
“Look who finally showed up!”
Happy cheers of your name echoes amongst your group of friends, glasses being lifted in your direction as they greet you in unison. Lifting your glass in response, you beam at the group before downing the glass, warmth filling your body from the alcohol. From beside you Soonyoung cheers as you chug, the man wasting no time before shoving another drink into your now empty hand before scurrying off to the others. A chuckle falls from you as you watch him pull a half wasted Dokyeom to the dance floor, Seungkwan hot on their heels as the trio pulls out an abrupt dance routine.
Shaking your head at their antics, you take a seat next to Joshua at the table, the man offering you a gentle smile as he scoots to make room.
“It’s good to see you, (Y/N),” he greets. “It’s been too long since the last time you’ve come out with us.”
“I know,” you agree, regret washing over your features. “Work has been crazy lately. I haven’t really had much time to do anything else besides be at the office or trying to get some sleep.”
A look of sympathy flashes in his eyes, Joshua nodding in understanding.
“I get it,” he reassured you with a bright smile. “It sucks being an adult sometimes, doesn’t it?”
You laugh at his words before taking a sip of whatever it was that Soonyoung had given you.
“That it does, Shua. I sometimes wish we were kids again without a care in the world. No bills, no schedules — nothing but free time to do whatever we want.”
“Or until we get caught drinking in the school parking lot at midnight,” he points out, laughing.
“That’s different!” You say, taking another sip of your drink. “We would’ve never gotten caught had Soonyoung not brought out the Bluetooth microphone and started singing.”
Joshua’s head rolls back as he laughs louder, shaking his head at the memory.
“He really tried to get the cops to fall for his serenade,” he chortled. “We almost got locked in a cell for that one had it not been for me.”
You smile at the memory, gently tapping your glass against Shua’s.
“Thank god one of us had a brain that night,” you grin. “Otherwise we would’ve been screwed.”
Amusement twinkles in Joshua’s eyes and the brunette opens his mouth to speak before his gaze falls on a figure behind you, a deep voice cutting off his train of thought.
“Sorry we’re late, everyone.”
Your hand tightens around your glass at the voice, eyes widening in shock as your head snaps to look at the two figures towering over your table. The two familiar faces are night and day; one stands with a beaming smile, eyes shining and body bouncing to the beat of the music like an energetic puppy. The other is stoic, hands shoved into the pockets of his slacks while a pointed gaze rests underneath the thick rims of his glasses, his intense gaze sweeping over the group until it lands on your shocked ones.
Your lips part in disbelief, a string of curses tumbling incoherently from your mouth, and you straighten your posture as your boss stares back at you, dark eyes glinting with curiosity.
“You made it!”
Soonyoung’s boisterous voice booms over the loud music, the blonde drunkenly placing a glass of champagne in each of their hands before wrapping both of his arms around their shoulders and hugging them into him. From his right, Mingyu laughs boisterously, leaning into the embrace as he hugs his friend back.
“Yeah, sorry about that,” he apologized. “We were finishing up at the office.”
From the left of Soonyoung, Wonwoo stays silent, his piercing gaze locked on yours, and you catch the briefest sight of his jaw clenching as Soonyoung gestures towards you.
“I’m not sure if you’ve ever met her before,” he begins, beaming from ear to ear. “But this is (Y/N), my best friend since we were in diapers.”
Your heart pounds in your chest, the beat echoing in your ears and drowning out the music as you stare at your colleagues. Mingyu’s face falls into pleasant surprise before he’s letting out a laugh, muscular arms crossing over his broad stature.
“Small world,” he comments, shooting a look between you and your boss. Soonyoung’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, a weary glance swept over the three of you.
“What do you mean?” The blonde asks curiously.
The scrutinizing gaze of your boss has you wanting to sink into the cushions of the booth and disappear, heat flaming your cheeks as the already too tight dress you were wearing somehow feels as if it’s melting into your skin, and you try to swallow the lump that had formed in your throat as Mingyu spoke once more.
“We work together,” he clarifies, a knowing smirk on his face. “She’s Wonwoo’s assistant.”
There’s a brief pause, realization sinking into Soonyoung’s features, before he’s turning towards the man on his left and smacking him on the shoulder.
“You’re her boss?!” He asks incredulously. “You’re the asshole who’s never giving her time off for a personal life?!”
Your eyes widened at his words, hands raising in defense as you move to kick Soonyoung in the shin.
“Soonyoung,” you hiss, glaring at the blonde.
Mingyu howls with laughter at that, his tall frame doubling over as he laughs at his friend. You’re mentally cursing at Soonyoung three times over as Wonwoo’s lips press into a thin line, the man sending a look of disapproval towards Mingyu who was holding his body up against Soonyoung, trying to calm himself down from the amusement. Your body grows hot with embarrassment as you run a hand over your face, wanting nothing more than for the ground to swallow you up.
“Yes,” Wonwoo finally says, deep voice rumbling with no amusement. “I’m the asshole boss.”
Soonyoung lands another playful tap against his friend’s chest, pointing an accusing finger at him.
“Give her a break, Wonu. She needs a vacation,” he pauses, looking between the two of you. “You both do.”
With one last love tap from Soonyoung, the blonde all but bounces back to the dance floor, Mingyu and Joshua in tow – leaving you and Wonwoo alone.
The tension in the air makes your throat dry, your shoulders sinking in embarrassment as you offer your boss an apologetic look.
“Mr. Jeon –”
“Your asshole boss, huh?”
Wonwoo’s harsh tone makes you want to crawl under a rock, shame filling your body, and your gaze sinks to the floor as you guiltily break eye contact.
‘He’s gonna fire me…’ You thought to yourself, trying to keep the panic that was seeping through your body at bay. ‘He’s going to tell me to pack my desk up and to never step foot into the building after tomorrow. That he’ll find a better assistant - one more compliant and who doesn’t talk back. Someone who says yes with no questions asked –’
“I suppose I deserve that.” Your head snaps back up, eyes wide with surprise, and there’s a ghost of a smile playing on his lips, brown eyes glinting in amusement. “Especially after all I’ve put you through this week.”
Your mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water, completely taken aback by the compliment, and you struggle to conjure a reply in your scattered brain as you stutter in response.
“I –” you flush, embarrassed at the lack of words you can conjure. “Mr. Jeon –”
“Wonwoo,” he corrects.
There’s a playful glint in his eyes as he takes a step closer to slide across from where you sat in the booth.
“At the office, I’m Mr. Jeon,” he smiles softly. “But when we’re outside of work or if it’s just you and I, it’s Wonwoo.”
Oh, fuck…
There’s heat pooling in your stomach at his words, thousands of tiny butterflies fluttering in its depths, and suddenly it’s a thousand degrees hotter in the club than it already was. Your palms are clammy, sweat beading at the nape of your neck, and you manage to send him back a small smile as you nod in acknowledgement.
“Okay,” you concede, lifting your glass to take a sip. “Wonwoo.”
There’s a sharp inhale on his end, broad shoulders stiffening for a millisecond, before he offers you a kind smile. You watch as he takes a sip of his champagne, his gaze never breaking from yours.
“So you’re the unfortunate one who’s had to deal with Soonyoung for all of these years,” he smirks, teasingly. You can’t help but to laugh at that before shaking your head at his words.
“He’s really not as bad as you think,” you defend. “In a way it’s almost as if I’m taking care of a child.”
A beautiful, melodic deep rumble escapes him and you’d be lying if you said that the low timbre of his voice didn’t send a wave of heat straight in between your legs, instinctively making you subtly shift to crossing them underneath the table.
“Perhaps that is enough reason to offer a compensation for your efforts,” he drawls. “Maybe even a raise.”
You quirk an eyebrow at that, sending the man a playful glare.
“Don’t tease me,” you warn, grinning. “I might just take you up on that.”
Wonwoo smirks, butterflies erupting in your stomach as your eyes glanced down at his lips. A wave of desire rushes through you as a fleeting thought of what they would feel like against your skin runs through your mind, your throat going dry as an image of you and Wonwoo tangled in bedsheets flashed in your mind. Immediately you’re clearing your throat and tearing your gaze away, shame flaming your cheeks as you take a sip from your drink.
“How do you know Soonyoung?” You ask, making Wonwoo smile at the question.
“I had a project with his father in the past,” he explains. “Soonyoung was just starting out as his assistant and was learning the ropes of his father’s company. Naturally, I took him under my wing and became his business mentor. I know how hard it is to work in a company that’s family owned. Our fathers don’t go easy on us despite us being their sons.”
“From what it sounds like,” you began, smirking at him. “It seems to me as if you also need to be compensated as well for your efforts.”
Wonwoo laughs, his glasses sliding down the bridge of his nose slightly as he leans forward.
“Maybe Soonyoung’s right,” he grins. “Maybe we both need a vacation.”
Your eyebrow quirks at that, eyes glinting in curiosity as you peer at him.
“Are you offering me time off?”
“Maybe someday,” he teases, eyes shining mischievously. “The best I can offer you right now is a dance with me.”
Your breath catches in your throat, and the butterflies take flight once more, your eyes widening in surprise before you catch yourself. Clearing your throat, you take another sip of your drink before looking up at him teasingly.
“I didn’t realize you danced,” you jest.
Wonwoo pushes himself out of the booth before holding his hand out to you, silently offering. The warmth of his hand enveloping yours has electric shocks running down your spine as he helps you up, his hand cautiously placed on the small of your back as he leaned down towards you.
“I usually don’t,” he affirmed, a wild glint in his eye as he leaned closer to your ear. “But I can make an exception when it involves certain people.”
Had he not been guiding you, you were pretty sure your knees would’ve buckled from his comment, heat flooding your cheeks as you let him move you towards the dance floor. Playful banter and teasing comments had always been a part of the dynamic, given the frequent amount of time the two of you were around each other, harmless flirting here and there wasn’t unnatural. But this is the first time you were seeing him – that you were really looking at him – outside of an office setting.
The normal Wonwoo who was holed up in his office all day; barking orders and commands to his staff, the man who gives you endless tasks left and right, the man who sat rigidly by your side in countless board meetings and projects. The man who you thought was nothing but a ball of stress stuffed in a business suit now stood in front of you with nothing holding him back as he pulled your body flush against his. He’s carefree, a warm glow in his eyes, and he’s offering you the sweetest smile as the pair of you settle within the crowd. The usual long sleeves of his button down are rolled up neatly to his elbow, his broad frame nearly making the buttons protrude from the seams, and you’re silently wishing the heavens above to give you even the slightest peek of toned skin beneath the fabric.
His hand rests comfortably on your lower back, slender fingers almost gripping the fabric of your dress as the two of you danced amongst the crowd of people. The dim lighting casts his face in an exquisite shadow, the defined angular shape of his jaw accentuated in the low lights, making his sharp features appear even more striking beneath the thick rims of his glasses. He’s beautiful, almost godly like, and the heat of his toned body against yours is making your head spin.
For the first time, you’re seeing him.
Your hand is clasped in his as he twirls you out, then back into him, a devastatingly beautiful smile painted on his lips replacing the usual scowl he wore in the office. You can’t help but to mirror him, beaming in delight as the two of you dance.
“Who would’ve thought Mr. Jeon Wonwoo, big bad CEO, would be such a great dancer,” you tease him, relishing in the low rumble of his laugh. You watch as his nose crinkles with the action, your heart blooming in your chest as he leans in closer towards you.
“That’s not all I’m good at.”
If his words weren’t enough to send a flood of heat through your body, it was the goddamn wink he sent you that did it. You can’t even articulate words as Soonyoung beckons the two of you over to dance with the group, Wonwoo reluctantly letting you go as the two of you made your way over to them.
You weren’t sure when the exact moment was that the line between you and your boss had begun to shift into something else, something far beyond a workplace partnership — but after tonight, it was an inevitable change.
And you’d be lying if you said you weren’t curious to see where it went next.
Tumblr media
You felt the presence before they had even uttered a word, your gaze shifting from your computer to the smirking face of the man in front of you as he leaned against your desk.
“So,” he began. “Are we going to talk about it?”
You gave him a blank stare.
“Talk about what?” You asked, even though you knew what he was hinting at.
“C’mon, (Y/N),” Mingyu whines, standing upright to bounce on his feet. “We can’t not talk about what happened the other night.”
You purse your lips at his words as you rub your temples in annoyance. You knew you couldn’t avoid the situation in its entirety, but you also knew that addressing it would imply that there was something… there to begin with — and there wasn’t. At least, not yet.
“Nothing happened,” you reply curtly. “I was out with friends.”
Mingyu scoffs, arms crossing over his broad chest as he gives you an incredulous look.
“So we’re not going to talk about how the two of you were practically fucking on the dance floor.”
You blanched at that, eyes widening in surprise, and you’re casting a weary glance towards the open door behind you. Wonwoo sits idly in concentration at his desk, the man scribbling something down on his notepad.
“Lower your voice,” you hissed at Mingyu once you turned back towards him. “He’s right there.”
“You didn’t deny it,” Mingyu beams.
“We were just dancing!” You defended. “It was harmless. And innocent, contrary to popular belief.”
“Innocent?” He mocks, raising an eyebrow. “He doesn’t just dance with anyone, (Y/N). Especially not like that.”
You try to ignore the sudden presence of fluttering in the pit of your stomach, the butterflies flying freely through your body as your mind flashes back to the dance you had shared with your boss. The warmth of his body against yours, the gentle brush of his lips against your ear, the teasing words exchanged… It had all been too much to process in one night — and, yet in the same breath, not enough.
“Well whether it was or not, nothing’s going to come from it. Nothing can come from it.”
A look of sympathy flashes across Mingyu’s face at that, his round eyes narrowing with pity.
“You never know,” he reassured with a gentle smile. “There’s always a chance that something could happen.”
You scoff at that, rolling your eyes as you turn back to your computer.
“Not as long as he’s my boss,” you muttered.
Mingyu opened his mouth to retort when a throat clears from behind the two of you. Almost immediately you’re whipping around to see Wonwoo leaning against the doorframe of his office, an accusing glance being thrown towards you and Mingyu as he pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“Is there a problem?”
Wonwoo’s voice is harsh, sharp eyes shifting between the two of you before he’s zeroing in on your gaze. His shoulders are straightened in a tension and you bite back a whimper as you watch the taut muscles of his chest strain against the confinements of his button down.
“N- no, sir,” you stuttered out, shaking your head. “Mingyu just had a question regarding the merger with Mr. Choi.”
Wonwoo’s lips press into a thin line, his jaw clenching as his gaze shifts to Mingyu, the aforementioned man peeling himself from your desk as he straightens his posture.
“That’s right,” Mingyu agrees. “I had a quest —“
“The next time you have a question about anything regarding business matters you come see me,” Wonwoo cuts him off with a harsh glare. “Ms. (Y/N) has enough on her plate. She doesn’t need you bothering her too. Nor do I appreciate you distracting her from her work.”
There’s a brief flash of shock dancing across Mingyu’s face, his big eyes widening at his friend’s words, before realization takes its place and he’s grinning like a kid in a candy shop.
“Oh,” he beams. “I get it.”
Wonwoo’s eyes narrow in a scrutinizing gaze while you stare at your boss, mouth slightly ajar from his earlier statement.
“Mr. Jeon it’s really not a big deal —“
“You’re dismissed, Mingyu. (Y/N), my office. Now.”
The contrast between the Wonwoo you had seen at the club compared to the one that was in front of you now was like night and day. The other night he had been carefree, lively, and sweet. The man that stood in front of you now was cold. The playful twinkle in his eyes had completely vanished, instead, replaced by a harsh glare as he all but stomped back into his office.
You’re completely ridden speechless as you watch your boss’s retreating form, a painful tug at your heartstrings has a frown forming on your lips.
Mingyu lets out a low whistle.
“I seem to have awakened the beast.”
Your head snaps back to look at his smirking face, a knowing glint in his eyes as he nods his head in the direction of Wonwoo’s office.
“Maybe true love’s kiss can melt his cold heart.”
Without thinking you’re reaching for your pen before chucking it in Mingyu’s direction, a bark of a laugh escaping him as he’s running away. Grumbling under your breath, you make a mental note to get him back later when a shout comes from behind you.
“(Y/N)!”
Your blood runs cold at the harsh call of your name, worry flooding your body as you hastily push yourself from your desk to make your way to Wonwoo’s office, panic running through you as you cross the threshold.
“Close the door behind you,” he orders, head nodding in the direction of the door, and you’re on high alert as the open barrier becomes sealed, leaving the two of you in his office. Alone.
Nervously you’re taking a seat in front of him, your ankles crossing as you sit with your shoulders tensed up. Wonwoo’s stare makes you want to curl up into a ball and hide, the intensity of his gaze sending goosebumps of anxiety up the nape of your neck.
Wonwoo inhales a sharp breath, nostrils flaring as he exhales, and he’s gritting his jaw as his hands fold in front of him on his desk.
“Is Mingyu bothering you?”
Confusion sweeps over you as your eyebrows furrow.
“Bothering me?” You ask, and you watch as Wonwoo’s knuckles turn white from clenching his hands together.
“Bothering you,” he says again. “Flirting with you? Asking you on dates? All of the above?”
Your eyes widen at his questions, your hands coming up in defense as you shake your head.
“No!” You deny. “None of the above. Absolutely none of the above.”
There’s a slight release of tension in his shoulders but his stoic face remains the same.
“If he was you would tell me, right?” He asks, giving you a pointed look.
“Of course,” you affirm. “If anyone was bothering me I would let you know.”
Wonwoo’s gaze stays locked on you as he digests your words, the man slowly unclenching his hands before he nods in response.
“Good,” he relents. “I wouldn’t want to lose one of my best employee’s because he doesn’t know how to control himself.”
You can feel the heat dance across your cheeks at his implication, embarrassment filling your body as you sink into the chair further.
“It’s never been like that,” you reassure him. “Only friendly banter.”
Wonwoo nods, accepting your words.
“I believe you,” he reaffirmed.
A tense silence falls over the two of you, the air thickening around you as you swallow the nervous lump that had formed in your throat from when he had called you into his office. His intense stare has you breaking eye contact in an effort to gain your composure, a ragged breath escaping you as your gaze zeroes into a random plank of wood on his floor.
“Is that all you needed from me?” You ask meekly, not lifting your head to look at him.
There’s a brief silence before Wonwoo responds.
“How’s the project going?”
Right… the project, of course.
Straightening your posture, you reluctantly lifted your head from the floor and met Wonwoo’s gaze once more. Those damned butterflies return instantly when you see the corners of his lips turn up into a small smile.
“Good,” you breathed out. “I’m finishing up the presentation for our next monthly board meeting. We’ve been making a lot of progress since we met up with Mr. Choi —“
“Have you eaten yet?” Wonwoo cuts you off, making your eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the sudden question.
“Not yet,” you respond. “I was planning to work on a few more things before I took a break.”
“You should join me for lunch,” he offers a gentle smile, a complete contrast to the frown he had when you had first walked into the office.
“I — I have so much to do, Mr. Jeon —“
“I’m sure it can wait,” he reassures you. “Besides, you can’t work on an empty stomach.”
Pushing himself away from his desk, Wonwoo stands up and throws his blazer on as he nods his head in the direction of the door.
“As your boss, I’m requesting that you have lunch with me.”
You frown at that.
“That’s not fair,” you mutter. “You know I can’t say no to you.”
“Precisely,” Wonwoo grins as he helps you up from the chair.
Your lips pursed in thought as you stared at the man before you. Not even ten minutes ago he was a huffing and puffing mess, anger flaring in his cold dark eyes. Now he stood in front of you with that same mischievous glint in his irises like the other night. The constant back and forth between his emotions is giving you a metaphorical whiplash.
“Fine,” you concede. “But you’re buying.”
Wonwoo doesn’t smirk in response, nor does he wave you off. Instead he’s tipping his head back and letting out a hearty laugh, the deep rumble making your heart pound in your chest as you stare dumbfoundedly at the man in front of you.
“I can work with that,” he agreed, beaming. “We can discuss more about this presentation as well.”

The dimly lit restaurant you’re taken to does nothing to rid you of the untamable butterflies fluttering wildly in the pit of your stomach as you sit across from Wonwoo. You can feel the nervous jitters in your body as you try not to tremble beneath your boss’s gaze while you try to keep your attention focused on the menu, your teeth biting into your bottom lip as you stoically stare at the page.
The romantic ambience of the restaurant is telling of itself; low lighting, soft music playing, and a waiter filling a glass of wine for you — a glass of which Wonwoo approved for you to drink despite you being on the clock. A drink which, also, did absolutely nothing for your nerves.
“See anything you like?”
Wonwoo’s deep voice pulls you from your inner turmoil and you’re reluctantly breaking your gaze from the menu to look up at him. His glasses are perched comfortably on the bridge of his nose, his lips offering a gentle smile, a smile that you can’t help but to let your gaze fall on as you stare at the curve of his Cupid’s bow.
“A few things,” you murmur, nodding at him. “There’s so many options.”
“Well,” he pauses, gesturing towards the menu. “If you trust me, I’ll order for us.”
Your eyebrow piques in interest at that, a teasing look dancing in your eyes.
“Yeah?” You muse, humming softly. “You think you know me that well?”
Wonwoo smirks as he places his menu down, his sharp eyes giving you a once over that sends the butterflies in your stomach into a frenzy.
“I’d like to think so,” he responds, giving you a knowing look.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you give him a playful look back as you lean against the cushion of the chair.
“What’s my favorite color?” You ask.
His smirk doesn’t falter at your question.
“Purple,” he answers. “More specifically, a light purple. Like lilac or lavender.”
You blanched at that, not expecting him to actually answer, let alone know the answer.
“Oh,” you said quietly, blinking in surprise.
“You mentioned to me once that the colors represent kindness and innocence. Two things which you felt represented both yourself and what you wanted people to gain from you.”
Your heart soared in your chest at his words, a feeling of gratitude sweeping over you as you offered him a shy smile.
“You remembered,” you murmured, making Wonwoo smile in response.
“I remember a lot of things about you.”
Heat rushed to your cheeks. His response had rendered you speechless and you were utterly grateful for the waiter’s timing as he came back to your table to take your orders — which Wonwoo took care of. You could barely register what was exchanged between the two as you stared at your boss in admiration, completely melting on the spot from his response.
Your eyes are still locked on the beautiful man in front of you as the waiter takes both of the menus, your heart beating rapidly against your ribcage as the two of you are left alone once more. The flickering flame of the candle casts a shadow along Wonwoo’s face, the dim lighting accentuating his strong jaw and sharp eyes as he leans forward on his elbows.
Blinking out of your daze, you swallow the lump of nervousness before clearing your throat.
“So the project is going well,” you began, taking a sip of your wine. “Mingyu has been working on the potential projections of the outcome and I’ve got the PowerPoint almost finished. We’re a little past the halfway point now.”
Wonwoo says nothing. He only offers you a small smile in response.
“I think we can really pull this off,” you continued. “Between your brilliant business mind and Mr. Choi’s ability to persuade pretty much anyone, the two of you are in the midst of creating something amazing.”
There’s a mischievous glint in Wonwoo’s eyes as he looks at you, the smile on his face not faltering once.
“You think I’m brilliant?”
You flush at his words before shifting nervously in your seat, lifting your glass of wine to your lips as you take another sip.
“I mean,” you purse your lips, giving him a knowing look. “You wouldn’t be the CEO if you weren’t.”
You spot the slightest clench in his jaw as his soft features harden at your words.
“I’m the CEO because my father stepped down,” he pointed out. You frown at that.
“Mr. Jeon —“
“Wonwoo,” he cuts you off sharply.
His brash tone deters you for a moment, hurt flashing in your eyes before you mask it with confusion.
“What?” You ask meekly.
“Do you remember what I said at the club?” He asks, the harsh tone still evident in his voice. “Do you remember anything from that night?”
“Of course I do,” you defended yourself. “I wasn’t even tipsy.”
Wonwoo’s jaw sets as he grits his teeth.
“Then you should remember that I said to call me by name when we’re alone.”
And just like that the butterflies are back with a vengeance — only to multiply tenfold when he leans across the table to grab your hand in his, lacing your fingers together before resting it back onto the table.
“Wonwoo…”
His name falls from your lips in a hushed voice, heat pooling in your stomach as he squeezed your hand in reassurance.
“You’re nervous,” he points out, smirking. You frown at that.
“Can you blame me?” You ask incredulously, gesturing towards your linked hands. “I’m holding hands with my boss.”
“You’re holding hands with your friend,” he corrects. “A friend who just so happens to be your boss. A boss that you’re also on a date with.”
Your mouth slacks at that, eyes widening in shock as you make a move to draw back only for him to tighten his grip so you can’t move away from him. His thumb sweeps over the back of your hand in an effort to soothe you but it only makes the heat in your belly spread to your lower body, your thighs clenching in response as you look away bashfully.
“I thought this was a business lunch,” you mutter, cheeks aflame with embarrassment. Wonwoo lets out a low chuckle.
“Did you not want this to be a date?”
Your face falls at that.
“It’s not that I don’t want this to be a date,” you reassure him. “It’s that… this can’t be a date.”
“And why not?” He asks, eyebrows raised in question. You blink at him.
“You’re my boss,” you reiterate. “Whether we’re friends outside of work or not you’re still my boss, Wonwoo.”
Wonwoo stares back with a blank look on his face.
“I fail to see your point, (Y/N).”
Before you could reply, the waiter had returned with both of your plates of food, placing them in front of each of you before refilling your wine glass. Wonwoo’s sharp gaze is still locked on yours, his grip on your hand refusing to let go, and he watches intently as you take a long swig of the alcohol. Your nerves are completely shot, mind going haywire from the conversation, and the wine is only intensifying the heat between your legs as you try to collect yourself.
And then he’s bringing your hand up to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss to your skin. Your breath hitches and Wonwoo catches it, smirking in response.
“Eat your food, sweetheart. It’s going to get cold.”

The bustling diner is thriving with patrons as you sit with Soonyoung and Joshua in a booth at the corner of the room, the two of them engaging in an animated conversation as you sit idly across from them, your mind completely far off from where you were currently at.
Ever since the night of Soonyoung’s party it’s like your world has been flipped upside down and spinning on its axis. Wonwoo has gotten more brazen in his advances; leaving you flowers on your desk, buying you lunch, fleeting touches of hands brushing as you pass each other in the hallway. The actions are subtle, most of the other employee’s not seeming to catch onto the attraction between the two of you, all except Mingyu who has decided to make it his life mission to get the two of you together.
After finding out that Wonwoo had taken you out to lunch (and called it a date) or much less, finding out that his boss had subtly confessed his feelings to you, he’s taken it upon himself to play Cupid — much to your dismay. Because even though your feelings for Wonwoo were strong, and grew more and more with each romantic gesture, the fact of the matter is, he's still your boss.
A heavy sigh breaks your friends from their conversation, two pairs of concerned eyes looking at you from across the table. Joshua frowns, Soonyoung’s eyebrows furrow. The former leans across the table to place a gentle hand on yours, and a part of you longed for it to have been Wonwoo’s in its place instead.
“What’s going on in that head of yours, (Y/N)?” Joshua asks softly, making you heave another sigh.
“I’m falling in love with somebody I can’t have,” you muttered, making Soonyoung’s eyes widen.
“Honey…” Joshua coos, rubbing your hand in soothing circles.
Your heart twinges with hurt as your face falls, shoulders slumped as a frown forms on your lips.
“I don’t even know how this happened,” you began, pouting. “One day he was my boss… the next he’s the man I want to come home to every night.”
Realization sweeps over Soonyoung’s face at your words, his lips parting in surprise.
“Wonwoo?” He asks, making Joshua’s eyebrows furrow in question. “You’re in love with Wonwoo?”
“How do you know it’s Wonwoo?” Joshua counters, but the look on your face is enough confirmation.
“Wonwoo is my boss,” you clarify. “I didn’t know he was friends with Soonyoung until he showed up to his party.”
“Oh,” Joshua mutters.
“And I’m not in love with him,” you glared at Soonyoung. “Not yet, at least. Although if he keeps getting me flowers and buying me food it’ll be a different story.”
“He’s what?!” Soonyoung gapes, open mouthed.
A wave of heat washes over your cheeks, embarrassment flooding your body as you bashfully look down at the table.
“He’s been getting me gifts,” you admitted softly. “I’ll come into the office in the morning to either a bouquet of flowers or a nice warm meal waiting for me. Sometimes both if he’s in a good mood.”
Soonyoung’s shock doesn’t falter, Joshua gives you a knowing look.
“Sounds like the feelings are mutual,” Joshua points out. “Maybe you should give him a chance —“
“He’s my boss, Shua,” you counter. “That’s a line I’m not allowed to cross.”
“Maybe you should cross it,” Soonyoung cuts in.
“I can’t —“
“(Y/N), I love you. We’ve been friends since we were in diapers, I wouldn’t steer you wrong. So believe me when I say that in the years that I’ve known Wonwoo, not once has he ever gotten a woman a gift, let alone tried to pursue one willingly.”
You freeze at that.
Knowing how invested he is with his job, it makes sense that Wonwoo wouldn’t have time to date nor be able to court a woman. But, in the same token, nobody that gorgeous and down to earth couldn’t have had someone he was the least bit interested in.
“I don’t know if I believe that,” you mutter. “Have you seen him? There’s gotta be women wanting him from every corner of the world.”
“Women may want him, honey, but he wants nothing to do with them,” Soonyoung pauses, a knowing look on his face. “Unless it’s you, apparently.”
Joshua chuckles at that, a reassuring smile on his face as he reaches over to place a hand on yours.
“Just think about it,” he suggests, encouragingly. “Weigh out the pro’s and con’s and go from there.”
Nodding in acknowledgement, you opted to stay silent and focus on the menu instead, pushing away any thought of your boss and his feelings towards you as you ignore those damned butterflies in your stomach.
Tumblr media
PROS:
Despite his rigid appearance, he’s quite kind
He listens to me when I have ideas and encourages me to speak up in board meetings despite my lack of status
He remembers things about me – which is still utterly baffling
He’s patient
He’s handsome (unfairly so)
Gift giving as a love language… along with words of affirmation (both a plus for me - dating or not)
CONS:
He’s my boss
The list stares at you with a daunting realization that, yes, the pro’s absolutely outweighed the single con that you could come up with – and, yet, in the same token, so much was at stake if you made the decision to further your relationship with your boss. With every pro that you could list, the thought of ‘He’s my boss’ still outnumbered the choice that your heart had been dying for you to make.
A heavy sigh escapes you as you stare at the word document, lips pursed in thought as your mind flutters back to the conversation you had with Joshua and Soonyoung.
“Maybe you should cross it.”
The line between you and Wonwoo had always been slightly blurred. Between endless flirty compliments and comments and looks that a boss and his assistant should not have been giving to one another, you knew that it had never just been a workplace friendship between the two of you. Not when you would spend countless nights wondering what it would be like to have your boss laying next to you, broad muscly arms enveloping you in a warmth you never wanted to be free of.
And that was what scared you.
“What is that?”
You nearly jump out of your skin at the sound of Wonwoo’s voice behind you, a shriek escaping you as you click on your email app to pop up instead of the word document, heat flooding your cheeks with embarrassment as you turn to meet the curious gaze of your boss.
“My grocery list,” you reply, lying through your teeth. “I have to pick up a few things on my way home and I didn’t want to forget anything so I wrote it down.”
Wonwoo peers curiously, sharp eyes resting underneath the thick rims of his glasses, and there’s a smirk of amusement on his face as he crosses his arms over his chest.
“Well I don’t think you have to worry about them tonight,” he replies, coolly. Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his words.
“What do you mean?”
“We’re going out tonight,” he clarified, his smirk widening when surprise floods your face.
“Going… out?” You ask, dumbly. “Going out where?”
“Well, since Soonyoung found out that I’m your boss, he’s taken it upon himself to guilt trip me into not only going out tonight, but to bring you along as well.”
A groan escapes you at that, your hand running over your face with embarrassment as Wonwoo chuckles lightly.
“Oh, god,” you whined. “Mr. Jeon I’m sorry –”
“Wonwoo.”
Your gaze meets his amused one as you lifted your head to look at him.
“Wonwoo,” you corrected, looking around the empty office. “He doesn’t understand the term ‘boundaries’ sometimes.”
“I know,” he grins. “Which is why I told him we would both be there.”
You frown at that, looking back towards your computer as you stared at the word app, your mind fluttering to the list that you had been working on.
“I –” you paused, biting the inside of your lip. “I have so much work to do –”
“Sweetheart, I'm offering you a break,” he laughs quietly, looking at you with an expectant look. “Are you really going to turn that down?”
‘He’s your boss, (Y/N). Say no. You know what can happen if you’re stuck with him.’
“Fine,” you concede, sighing softly. “But I have to run home and get changed.”
If the thought of another night out with your boss didn’t already make your heart race, it was the words he whispered to you after that definitely made heat pool between your thighs.
“Why?” He asks, quirking an eyebrow. “You’re beautiful already.”
Your eyes widened at his compliment, your throat tightening, and you swallowed the lump that had formed out of nervousness before waving him off.
“If you say so,” you dismissed, shutting down your computer. Wonwoo only beams, nose crinkling with happiness as he offers you his arm.
Tumblr media
Wonwoo was glued to your side the moment the two of you had stepped into the club, his hand resting on your lower back as he carefully guided you through the crowd. Bodies were pressed against each other without a care in the world, the party goers dancing without thought as they enjoyed their night, and a part of you envied them — envying that they didn’t have to think about the man currently pressing you against him as he shuffles the two of you towards your friends.
The heat from Wonwoo’s body completely engulfs you as he pressed himself against you, the hand that was on your back now sliding to the dip of your hip as he pulls you into him. The scent of his cologne fills your senses and draws you to him, your body molding into his as he leans down to press his lips against your ear.
“Soonyoung is right there,” he points, gesturing towards the bubbly blonde now dancing with Seungkwan. “I’ll meet you over there. I’m getting us drinks.”
Before you can say anything, a chaste kiss is being pressed to your cheek. Your eyes widened as your boss slithered through the dancing bodies, shock filling you at the gentle brush of his lips on your skin as your mind tried to wrap around the fact that your boss had just kissed you. Butterflies erupted in the pit of your stomach at the gesture, your heart speeding up in your chest, and you can only suck in the shyness of the blush now heating your cheeks before you’re making your way towards your group of friends.
Joyful cheers erupt from the bunch as you come into view, glasses being held up in a toast as they acknowledge your arrival. You’re met with Soonyoung’s beaming face as you take a seat beside him, the bubbly blonde wrapping an arm around you as he gives you a one armed hug.
“From now on I’m just going to force Wonwoo to hang out with me,” he says, jokingly. “That seems to be the only way I can get you here!”
A small laugh escapes you as you shake your head at your friend, rolling your eyes playfully.
“It was a low blow, Soonie,” you reprimand, giving him a look. “You can’t boss him around just so that we can accompany you while you’re out.”
Soonyoung pouts, batting his eyes.
“But you’re my friends,” he whines. “And the two of you work too much! It wouldn’t kill you to be somewhere that’s not the office or home every once in a while!”
“He’s got a point, honey,” Dokyeom interjects, looking distractedly behind you. “Wonwoo has you working crazy hours day in and day out. You need a break to decompress.”
“He’s right.”
The deep voice rumbling behind you makes you lift your head as your gaze falls on a smiling Wonwoo, the man placing your drink in front of you before sliding next to you in the booth. Your breath catches in your throat the moment his leg pressed against yours, the heat emanating off of him like he’s your own personal furnace. His sharp gaze is locked on yours as he reaches to lazily drape his arm around you, and you don’t have to look at Soonyoung to know that he’s sitting there smirking as he and Wonwoo lock eyes.
“Nice of you to join us, Wonu,” Soonyoung piped up. I almost would’ve thought (Y/N) came here alone.”
“Now what kind of man would I be if I let my beautiful assistant come here by herself?”
A chorus of snorts falls upon the group, identical knowing looks on each one of their faces as they gazed upon you and Wonwoo. Heat floods your cheeks as you look down at the table bashfully, biting back a smile as Wonwoo pulls you into him.
Soonyoung can’t help but to smirk as he watches the two of you, a knowing glance being thrown towards your boss as he chuckles.
“I’ve never seen her so shy before,” he coos, making you groan in embarrassment. Wonwoo grins.
“Come to the office and you’ll see more of it,” he teases, and you playfully tap his shoulder in response.
“Stop,” you whined, pouting. “It’s not my fault you’re a shameless flirt.”
Wonwoo’s grin doesn’t falter, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
“Only with you, sweetheart.”
A unanimous coo falls from the group as they beamed at the two of you, taking in the flirty banter between you and your boss before deciding to give the two of you some time to yourselves. Soonyoung and Dokyeom are making a beeline for the dance floor while Joshua and Seungkwan head towards the bar, and you can already feel the nervous fluttering of those damned butterflies as Wonwoo’s soft gaze peers into yours.
A feline smirk is on his lips, his gaze resting underneath the thick rims of his glasses, and he’s leaning down towards your ear, lips brushing the outer shell and sending a wave of heat through your body.
“Would you like to dance with me?”
His voice is quiet, the low tone reverberating against your body, and you can’t help but to shiver as his breath fanned against your skin. You take a sip of your drink before turning your head to look at him, eyes shining playfully.
“You sure you don’t want to dance with anyone else?” You asked, half teasing half serious. “I’m sure there’s plenty of women who would gladly take you up on it.”
Wonwoo’s face hardens at your words, jaw clenching as he gives you a stern look.
“I don’t want anyone but you.”
Your breath catches in your throat at that, lips parting slightly in shock, and you peered into the earnestness of Wonwoo’s eyes as he reaches to grab your hand. The butterflies multiply tenfold as he lifts it to his lips, gently pressing a kiss to your knuckles before he’s wordlessly sliding out of the booth and pulling you up to him.
A protective arm wraps around your waist as your chest presses against his, his gaze never leaving yours as he rests his palm against your cheek.
“Dance with me.”
It’s a soft murmur rumbling from him and the intensity of his gaze can only make you nod in silence before allowing yourself to be willingly pulled to the dance floor.
Strong arms enveloped around your waist as you’re tugged into his broad chest, your arms looping around his neck, and the sultry song playing in the background does absolutely nothing for your nerves as your bodies move to the beat of the song. Wonwoo’s heated gaze is locked on yours, his sharp eyes framed underneath his glasses, and the intensity of him renders your mind thoughtless as a wave of heat flows straight to the pulsing core of your thighs as his body rolls into yours.
A soft mewl falls from you as you mirror his movements, your hands fisting in his hair as your hips swayed against his. Wonwoo grits his teeth as he leans down closer to you, his nose grazing yours as his hands clutched at the fabric of your shirt.
The heat between the two of you grows several degrees hotter as Wonwoo turns you in his arms, your back now flush against his chest, and his head dips to rest in the crook of your neck as your ass rolls into his groin. There’s a broken moan falling from him and he’s gripping onto you for dear life as he grinds his body into yours. Your hands are still fisted through his hair as his teeth graze against your skin, a whine falling from you as you tilt your neck to give him more access.
“Wonwoo…”
The sound of his name falling from you sends your boss into a frenzy, his hands clutching your body to him as he rolls his clothed cock against your ass. His teeth bite down on the juncture between your neck and shoulder as he sucks the skin into his mouth, marking you with a soothing flick of his tongue.
“Be mine,” he murmurs against your skin, drawing you out of your lust-filled haze. A frown paints itself across your lips as you try to turn in his arms, only to have Wonwoo tighten his arms and lock you in place.
“I can’t…” you whisper, and Wonwoo shakes his head as he nips against your collarbone.
“Don’t think about tomorrow, sweetheart,” he responds. “Think about now. Think about how we’re two people who very clearly care about each other.”
Your brain is screaming at you to pull away, to not risk anything more than what has already happened, but when his hot breath is fanning across your skin and his hardening cock is pressing up against your ass it’s hard to pull away. So, instead, you’re gaining the strength to turn in his arms and pull his head back down to your neck, fishing your hands through his hair as you arch into his touch. Wonwoo growls against your skin as needy hands drop to the curve of your ass, squeezing the flesh as your bodies grind to the beat of the music.
Everything around you all but disappears as the two of you melt into one another, not a care in the world as Wonwoo mouths hotly at your neck, tongue and teeth marking any visible inch of skin that he can latch onto.
‘Just for tonight,’ you thought to yourself. ‘I can indulge myself just for a night.’
If only it was ever that easy.

“We should do something tonight.”
“I was going to go to bed early, actually.”
“You do that every night.”
“What, are you stalking me now?”
“No,” Kendyl draws out. “You stop texting me by like, 8:30 every night. Your phone is on do not disturb half an hour later. Either you’re asleep early, or you’re ignoring everyone by then.”
Ellie narrows her eyes at her coworker. They still weren’t close enough that she felt she could comfortably hang out with the people she worked with outside of the workday. She had only been at her new job for a month, still getting the hang of things, trying to get to know people and figure everything out. Spending time outside her apartment with people who were practically strangers when she could be in her warm bed with her flannel sheets that she loved more than anything on this planet? “I don’t like that you picked up on that.”
“Well, too bad,” Kendyl says, sitting down on Ellie’s desk. “A bunch of us are going out tonight, so why not?” Ellie hesitates to answer. “If it sucks, you can go home at ten. You’ll be in bed by 10:30, two hours later than normal. And it’s Friday, we don’t have work tomorrow for you to use that as an excuse as to why you have to get up early, and you already told me that the only thing you planned on doing this weekend was laundry and cleaning.”
Ellie let out a long sigh. Maybe Kendyl did know her well enough to be able to call her out on her shit already. “God.”
“I don’t know if you’re religious or not to know if that’s a yes.”
“Fine,” she says, shuddering at Kendyl’s squeal of excitement. “But you’re buying at least one round and I get to leave at 9:30 if I want to.”
“Deal.”
Ellie’s day was full of dread, from spending the rest of work distracted about having to go out with seemingly everyone at her job, so the stress involved with getting ready and trying to look like someone who was actually 24, not the ‘1980’s power boss bitch without the hair and shoulder pads’ as Kendyl described her as multiple times, even do walking to the bar that Kendyl had picked that felt way too conveniently down the street from her apartment.
“I’m surprised you even had someone convince you to go out,” her younger brother, Alex, says on the other end of their phone call. As soon as he saw Ellie leaving her apartment on Find My Friends, he called her panicked that something was wrong. “You never went out in college. I had to beg you to go to that one party the time I visited you.”
“That’s because you were still seventeen and Mom would have killed me if she found out you went.”
“She knew I was going to try anyway.”
“I’m going out because I was promised free drinks and the prospect of going home early if I want to. It’s not like I’m being forced to go out against my will.”
“I promised you free drinks.”
“Alexander.”
“Eleanor. Just be safe, ok? Let me know when you get home.”
“You sound like Mom.”
“If I were Mom, I would be yelling at you for not wearing a jacket.”
“How do you know I’m not wearing a jacket?”
“You never wear a jacket. Mom has been yelling at you about that since you were five.”
Ellie lets out a laugh, a sudden chill coursing through her when she realizes she can see her breath. “How is Mom, have you checked in on her?’
“Yes, Ellie.”
“In person?”
“Yes, Ellie. She’s good. At least, she says she is.”
The two of them stay on the phone in silence for a moment, knowing what he really means. Ellie and Alex hated the topic of how their mom was doing, but if they didn’t talk about it with each other, who else did they have? Their mom and Alex still live in the same area even if Alex was away at college and living in a dorm rather than with her. Ellie was on the other side of the continent now, for a job that she barely had any friends at, in a city she still barely knew, surrounded by things she wasn’t used to.
“Hey, I’m outside the bar now, I’ll talk to you later?” she ends the call, taking in one last deep breath before heading into what she was sure was going to be
“You came!” Kendyl yells once Ellie finally manages to get into the bar. “Here’s the first drink.”
Before Ellie could even tell Kendyl she wasn’t ready yet to start drinking, the drink was pressed to her chest and nearly spilled down the front of her. Despite it being early enough in the night that no one should be drunk by now, Kendyl and the rest of her coworkers seemed to be well on their way with Ellie needing more drinks than she could count to catch up.
The night goes by slowly, the drinks going away fast, and Ellie sitting in the corner while her coworkers, who are obviously close, talk about a bunch of inside jokes from before she was hired that Ellie was unable to participate in.
“Remember when he ordered the wrong cake?” Wesley slurs, punching Doug in the shoulder.
“I swear she told me to say, ‘Happy Retirement,’” Douglas defends himself.
“It was my 28th birthday, not my retirement?” Hazel says, everyone except Ellie bursting into a fit of laughter.
“What about when Sammy dialed 911 during the meeting?” Kendyl adds through wheezes, the remains of her drink nearly spilling on Ellie’s shirt, again.
“It fell out of my pocket and bounced weird!”
“How does a bouncing phone dial 911?”
“That’s the set up to a bad pick up line.”
“More like the setup to a story that makes no sense,” Ellie mutters, thankful that her coworker's howling laughter was too loud to hear her.
She gets up from the table, draining her drink on her way to the bar. It was only 9:15. She promised Kendyl 15 more minutes. The least she could do was down another drink in that time before pulling her classic Irish exit to go home and get in bed.
“Rum and coke?” she asks once she gets up to the bar, the sticky wooden counter acting as anything but inviting for her to lean on.
“Me, too, and put it on my tab,” someone says behind her, Ellie’s face immediately turning sour at the thought of some guy buying her a drink to probably get her to hook up with him.
“My friend is paying for it, actually,” she turns to him, surprised to find a seemingly innocent-looking guy around her age and not the middle-aged gross man she thought he would be. Anything was possible, and looks can be deceiving.
“Which friend, the one who almost spilled her drink on you or the one of the ones who have been ignoring you the entire night and letting you sit in silence while they have a good time around you?”
“I already don’t like you.”
“My friends pointed you out and said you were me when they drag me out to bars.”
“So you’re the friend who they barely know and who they only invited out of pity?”
“That’s dark. But also, kinda hot,” he says, the pink rushing to his cheeks as he turns away out of embarrassment. “Sorry, um. I’m going to go sit down now.”
“You haven’t gotten your drink yet,” Ellie points out, his sudden bashfulness making Ellie soften for him. “I just moved here. I don’t really know any of them too well.”
“I know what that’s like,” he tells her, leaning against the bar.
“You’re not from here, either?”
He shakes his head. “Born in Orlando, moved to Boston, then moved to Toronto, and kept going from there.”
“That sounds unstable,” she says, passing one of the newly appeared glasses of alcohol to the guy in front of her.
He shrugs, lifting the drink to his lips. “Well, they say you are a product of your environment.”
Ellie lets out a laugh, the first one that she had let out all night. “That’s dark. But also, kinda hot,” she repeats, the pink returning to his cheeks again.
“I’m never gonna live that down, am I?”
“Depends on how long we keep talking.”
“Hopefully it lasts past tonight.”
“It can’t if you don’t tell me your name. I’m Ellie.”
“I’m Quinn.”
Ellie loses count of how many drinks Quinn gets her, how long they’re talking, and when all of her coworkers leave the bar, not even telling her that they were leaving without her.
She could feel the warmth of the alcohol coursing through her body, the bar getting busier the longer she and Quinn stood there. Someone shoves in between Ellie and whoever is behind her, pushing her into Quinn’s arms without her being able to catch her balance. His hand falls to the small of her back, spreading out to hold her steady. They stood there in silence, the rest of the bar a world away from them.
“Are you ok?” Quinn whispers in her ear, his breath tickling her skin.
Ellie stammers for a second, trying to process what just happened. The alcohol was making everything foggy, and the room starting to spin slightly around her as if Quinn was rocking her back and forth. “Um, I, yes?”
His eyes flickered down to her lips, the distance between them closing with each additional person, he was so close to kissing her.
“I should go home,” Ellie says before he can, knowing that kissing him now would not be a good idea for either of them.
His grip on her doesn’t relax, the disappointment Ellie expected to show up on his face not there at all. “I’m walking you home,” he tells her, slipping his hand into hers before she can protest.
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I want to.”
The difference in temperature between the bar and outside hit Ellie faster than she could process it, her lack of jacket her brother had scolded her for earlier biting her in the ass harder than the cold was in the moment.
Ellie didn’t even process Quinn taking off his own coat, the one she didn’t even realize he had been wearing the entire time, and putting it around her shoulders before wrapping his arm around her and pulling her close.
She was on autopilot, unsure how she managed to navigate her way to her apartment when her mind was on Quinn’s body pressed against hers. She just met him. She didn’t know much about him. She didn’t even know what he did for work and only knew that he had two brothers who lived in New Jersey even though that wasn’t one of the places that he mentioned living before.
“Here,” Ellie barely gets out, surprised with herself for managing to get back to the right place.
“Do you want me to walk you to your door?” Quinn asks, shoving his hands in his pockets when he finally lets go of her.
“No, it’s fine.”
Ellie goes to take off the jacket and give it back to him, the warmth something her drunk self quickly realized she was going to miss. “No, keep it. It looks better on you anyway,” Quinn tells her, pulling his things out of his pockets before turning away to head off.
She stands there for a few seconds, trying to process what had happened that night.
“Wait, no,” Quinn says, appearing again in front of her. “I can’t leave without getting your number first.”
“I couldn’t even tell you what my number is right now,” she admits, handing him her phone instead.
Quinn laughs, putting his number in. “I want to see you again, Ellie.”
She smirks at him. “We’ll see, Quinn.”

“What do you mean you’re not bringing anyone?”
“No one said I had to bring anyone.”
“Everyone brings someone. You have to bring a date to the holiday party.”
“Then why was one of the options on the RSVP ‘no’ to the question ‘will a guest be accompanying you?’”
Kendyl whines, earning a cringy look from Ellie. “You have no one you can bring?”
Ellie rolls her eyes, leaning back in her desk chair. “Let’s see, I’ve been here for like, what, two months? I knew no one when I got here, I hate going out and don’t have anywhere to meet anyone, and somehow none of you here know anyone either. Who would I bring?”
“What about that guy you met at the bar that one time? I see his name popping up on your phone all the time.”
Ellie snatches her phone from her desk and holds it against her chest as Kendyl cranes her neck to see that her statement is actually fact, three messages from Quinn, a fourth appearing while they were talking. “You need to learn what a boundary is.”
“And you need to learn what the Focus feature is on your phone when you’re showing me things because his name always shows up.”
She couldn’t invite Quinn to the party. She barely knew him, she couldn’t throw him into the party with a bunch of her coworkers who she also barely knew, putting her phone back on the desk without thinking. “He’s probably busy.”
Kendyl rolls her eyes, snatching Ellie’s phone from her desk before she can protest, fiddling with it while Ellie tries to process what could possibly be happening in front of her. “He’s not.”
“What?”
“He’s not busy.”
“Ken, what did you do?” Kendyl hands Ellie back her phone, a quick conversation with Quinn on her screen, ‘Ellie’ asks him what he was doing the night of the holiday party and he immediately answers that he is free. “Why are you like this?”
Kendyl shrugs, slowly backing away from Ellie’s desk. “You had fun talking to him at the bar, enough fun that he responded to you within seconds of being asked if he was free.”
Ellie looks back at her phone as Kendyl finally leaves her alone. The whole idea of having to bring a date seemed archaic in a way that Ellie couldn’t quite put her finger on. Why did she have to bring someone she barely knew to a party with more people she barely knew?
But she really did know Quinn better than she was letting on. She still didn’t know what he did with his life, him weirdly making her promise not to look him up, which made Ellie immediately question if he was a serial killer. He wasn’t, allegedly, but that still didn’t make sense.
She knew that he was from the States, went to school there until he left early for whatever job he had. He has two younger brothers, and apparently is known amongst his friends for looking like he was having a nonstop existential crisis, while also being nicknamed ‘Huggy Bear.’ She also knew that he was sweet, and listened to her when she went off on a tangent about something, him following right along and matching the energy she had. She knew that she wanted to see him again every night since she had met him that first time, and that he wanted the same thing.
His name came up on her phone, a call from him. “Hi, sorry, it’s easier to talk than text right now.”
“Why are you out of breath?”
“Workout.” Must be nice to have a job where he can just go and work out in the middle of the day, Ellie thinks to herself. “So, the 18th?”
“Yeah,” Ellie lets out, suddenly nervous. It felt like she was asking him for something much more serious than just going with her to an office party. “It’s the holiday party for my company, and apparently everyone needs to bring a date.”
“And you want me to find you one?”
Ellie’s jaw drops at his comment. “No, idiot, I wanted to bring you.”
“Oh, thank god. I was running through my friends who would go and none of them are good enough for you.”
Ellie could feel the heat rushing to her cheeks at his comment. Did he consider this a date? Was it a date? Was it bad if she considered it a date and he didn’t? What if he didn’t? Why was her mind running at a mile a minute while Quinn was there on the other end of her phone waiting for her to say something else? “So that’s a yes?”
“Of course, it’s a yes. It’s one of the few nights I have off, I want to spend it with you.”
The next days went by in a blur, Ellie freaking out over everything from what she was going to wear, texting and calling Quinn even more, wishing that they could see each other sooner.
“It’s not obsessive, is it?” she asks Kendyl, staring at herself in the mirror. Kendyl insisted on coming over to Ellie’s place to get ready, telling her that her roommate had their partner over that night and the last thing she needed to do was try to use the bathroom to get rid when they had a habit of taking it over for more than a few hours.
“No, El, you just like him. I think it becomes obsessive when you start to stalk him and you show up to where he works unprovoked.”
“Why do you say that like you’ve either done that or you’ve had that happen to you?”
“I’ll let you decide which one is better. What time is Quinn coming?”
“He’s supposed to get here in ten minutes.”
“Just breathe, El. You’re going to have fun.” Kendyl left her to finish getting herself ready, her date already waiting outside to take her to the party. They could have all gone together, as pointed out by Kendyl, but it was better to not throw Quinn directly into the fire that was her closest coworker.
Ellie’s phone starts ringing, not checking but expecting it to be Quinn calling to tell her he was early. She pops out of her seat to head to the door, picking up the phone and answering with an excited “Hi!”
“Eleanor?”
Ellie stops in her tracks, her mom’s voice coming over her phone speaker. “Mom?”
“Sweetie, can you do me a favor?”
Ellie felt her heart drop to her stomach, already knowing what her mom was going to ask her. It was the same thing that her mom always asked since she first got a job when she was in high school, every time she answered the phone while she was getting her degree, no matter where Ellie was in her life, it was never a call that a mother should have to make to one of her children this often. “Mom,” she lets out, knowing that she couldn’t say no.
“Please, Eleanor. I need the money. I, I-”
“Mom, you promised,” Ellie cuts her off, not wanting to hear anymore even though she knew her mom would keep going.
“I thought I would get a raise before they sent the eviction notice this time.”
“Mom,” Ellie says, more exasperated this time. “You have to stop doing this. You do this to me every time.”
“Alexander can’t help this time.”
Ellie heard a knock at her door, not even processing the fact that she should be looking through the peephole to make sure it wasn’t a murderer, opening it, and letting whoever it was in. Thankfully, it was Quinn, waving him in and motioning to give her a moment.
“Alex is still in college, already struggling because you’re no help. He shouldn’t have to give you anything in the first place.”
Quinn stands there, clearly uneasy at listening to only Ellie’s end of the conversation but following Ellie into her room regardless. He stands in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed while he watches Ellie continue to get ready.
“But you said last time that I couldn’t ask you again.”
“I didn’t mean for you to ask my little brother.”
“Eleanor, please. He’ll have nowhere to come home to. I’ll have nowhere to go home to.”
“What happened to everything you had last time I asked you?”
“It went towards all of the other bills, I promise. I’ll send you every confirmation for every bill I have.”
“You’re not lying to me this time?”
“I’m not, I swear!”
“How many months did Alex cover?”
“Only half of one month.”
“How many months are you behind?”
“I swear I used everything I had to pay-”
“Mom, how many months are you behind?” Ellie knew she was raising her voice, forgetting that Quinn was even behind her. She stopped putting her makeup on at this point, knowing that the tears that were about to fall were going to ruin what she had already on, anyway.
“Four.”
“Fuck, Mom.”
“Please?” her mom’s voice comes through, small and on the brink of breaking. “I know I’m still paying you back from last time. But what else am I supposed to do?’
“I’m sending it now,” she tells her, hanging up before her mother could say anything else. Ellie forgot Quinn was standing there in her doorway, putting her phone down on her vanity and putting her face in her hands. This couldn’t be happening again. Not again.
Quinn clears his throat, causing Ellie to jump. “Should I go?” he asks, creeping into her room.
Ellie wipes the tears from her cheeks, cursing herself mentally for now having to redo the makeup she already took too long to do the first time. “Uh,” she stammers, “No, no. I’ll be ready in a second.”
“Ellie,” Quinn kneels on the floor next to her, gently placing his hand on her thigh. “We don’t have to go to this.”
“No, it’s fine, I’m fine.”
“El.”
Ellie finally turned to him, the genuine concern on his face causing her to burst into tears. He reached up and pulled her close to him, his one hand on her back, the other holding her head on his shoulder, letting her cry on his white shirt. She hears him let out a quiet shushing noise, trying to comfort her in the way she had needed for so long. She cried for so long that she didn’t know how much time passed. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” he whispers when she finally stops crying, not moving from their position. “Do you want to talk about it?”
She never told anyone about the stuff with her mom. Ellie had been holding it in for years, going from friend to friend, place to place, never letting this out with anyone who wasn’t her younger brother, the one person who would understand and who she knew also understood what it was like.
But there was something about Quinn. She thought she could trust him, for whatever reason. She never told her ex-boyfriends in college or high school, despite the fact that this had been going on since then.
Ellie takes in a deep breath. “The only people who know this are me, my mom, and my brother, do you understand?” she asks him, watching him nod. “It started, I think, when my dad left. I was probably 10? Alex was 6, maybe?  I don’t even remember, honestly. This probably started before Dad left, Alex and I think it’s why he left. But our mother is absolutely shit when it comes to money. Like, put us in debt every few months that then somehow fell to us as her children to bail her out.”
“God,” Quinn lets out, Ellie continuing over him.
“I think we realized it was getting bad when she told us we were moving somewhere smaller right before I was starting high school, out of the blue, when we had already moved to ‘somewhere smaller’ three times in four years. Normally she said she had been planning it because we, of course, needed somewhere to live, and she didn’t like where we were, but that was weird. I didn’t realize it was because we had been evicted every single time until I found the seven eviction notices my second year of high school from the last three times and a notice that we were getting evicted that year, too.”
“Ellie, I’m so sorry,” he tells her, pulling her back in for a hug.
She sighed, knowing that there was nothing more he could say. “At this point it’s normal, it’s just still frustrating when she tells me and Alex that she’s fine and that she has the money for everything, and then out of nowhere, tells us she hasn’t paid the rent for her current place in four months. Like, do you know what it’s like to have your mother owe you nearly a hundred thousand dollars because of how much she keeps needing?”
“I can’t even imagine.” The two of them sit in silence for a moment, neither of them sure what to do next.
“I’m glad you can’t. It fucking sucks,” she says, turning back to her vanity mirror. “God, I don’t even want to go to this stupid party anymore.”
“Hey, we don’t have to go if you don’t want to. We can stay here, we can go to my place, we can go somewhere else, we can do anything.”
“We?”
“I don’t want to leave you, Ellie. I came tonight because I wanted to spend time with you,” Quinn tells her, taking her hand in his. “If you’ll let me, I’ll take you wherever you want.”
“You don’t have to.”
“Ellie, I want to be with you.”

“Kendyl, I told you, I’m hanging out with Quinn and the rest of the guys tonight.”
“Can I please come?”
“Absolutely not.”
“But you’re dating the captain of the fucking Vancouver Canucks. You have to bring your best friend along with you.”
“Alexander can’t come tonight either.”
“Ok, rude.”
Ellie was already nervous about meeting Quinn's teammates. It had taken a while for her to wrap her head around that he was not only a hockey player, but a professional one, and the actual captain of the team. Honestly, she didn’t see it coming. She had heard so much about Elias and Brock that she felt like she knew them at this point. She hadn’t even met them. As close as she had gotten to Kendyl in the last six months she spent at her job, and as much time as they spent together outside of work when she wasn’t with Quinn, she didn’t need Kendyl mixed into the group.
“Let me meet them first, then we can talk about you meeting them, ok?” she tries to assure her, hearing a knock at her door. “I’ve gotta go, Quinn is here.”
She hangs up on Kendyl before she can protest, slightly worried that she would use the ‘Find my friends’ feature to just stalk the house they were going to and end up on the doorstep uninvited.
“Hi,” she opens the door, stopping for a second to take him in. God, she hated how hard she fell for him in a short amount of time. He was perfect to her at that moment.
He pulled her in for a kiss, one that made her wish they were staying in rather than heading to spend time with his friends. “Hi,” he whispers, kissing her again before pulling away. “You look amazing, as always.”
“I’m wearing jeans and a sweater,” she counters.
“And?” He could say anything to her with that stupid smile on his face and make her swoon. “Ready?”
They head out to his car, Ellie’s heart racing as they get closer and closer to Thatcher’s house. She wasn’t great with meeting large groups of people all at once, despite being in a new school nearly every year of her awkward teenage years and being forced to interact with new people every time.
“Hey,” Quinn says, resting his hand on her thigh as he drives down the highway, giving her a gentle squeeze to try to calm her down. “You’re going to like the guys. And they’re going to love you.”
“Yeah?” she says, her voice shaking slightly.
“How could they not?” he asks, taking her hand and bringing to his lips, his eyes glued to the road in front of them so he couldn’t see her melting at his words and his touch. “You’ll get along great with Elias.”
“He’s the one from Sweden?”
“Yeah,” Quinn tells her, pulling into the driveway of a house so massive Ellie wasn’t sure people could actually live in it. It was certainly bigger than anything she could have ever dreamed of being near, let alone being invited to. “He’s got kind of a dry humor. You’ll like him.”
Ellie takes in a deep breath, feeling incredibly inadequate just getting out of his car and standing on the pavement of a place like Thatcher’s house. Maybe she should have invited Kendyl.
Quinn takes her hand, pulling her along to the door when everything inside her was telling her to turn around and just run. There was no way she was good enough to be in this house, not with everything in her life, not when Quinn and his teammates had everything they could possibly want at the tips of their fingers.
He stops at the door, pulling her close to him, dropping her hand, and cupping her face to kiss her again, calming her immediately. “Hi,” he breathes when he pulls away.
“Hi again. What was that for?” she asked, his hands slipping down to her waist, sending a shiver through her entire body as he traced her sides.
“I’m going to want to do that so many times tonight, but I know the guys will tease us for it. I’ve gotta do what I can now.”
That shouldn’t have made her feel the way it did. He could say or do anything at this point and she would melt.
They go inside, the house loud and full of people despite Quinn telling her that it was just supposed to be a ‘small get-together.’ Everything in the house looked expensive, Ellie’s anxiety immediately spiking. She followed Quinn blindly through the house, all of his teammates talking to him and him introducing her to all of them while she stood there nearly mute over the sheer stimulus overload that was all around her. She barely noticed the drinks that found their way in hers and Quinn's hands, drinking once she saw Quinn drinking it, as well.
“Elias is right over here,” he whispers in her ear, his hand still in hers and giving her a reassuring squeeze as he leads her off into one of the side rooms. The room was quieter, the lights dimmer, and had a lot less people than any of the other rooms.
“You got here half an hour ago and you’re just making it in here?” one of the guys asks as she and Quinn sit next to each other on the couch. “Ellie, you have to get him to go faster through the greetings next time. I cannot be left alone with Brock for this long.”
She looks at Quinn, confused as to how they already know her name.
“You know I have to say hi to everyone, I’m captain.”
“As captain, you should be able to do one big greeting and let that be it so you can seclude yourself in a separate room where you don’t have to talk to everyone else,” one of the other guys said.
“Every time you talk, Brock, you add more to the long list of why you would make a horrible captain.”
“I would be a great captain.”
“Elias, Brock, jeez.”
“You know you can’t leave us alone for too long.”
Ellie gets lost in their conversation, not even being able to contribute to what they were saying because their verbal sparring is so fast and so specific to their history with each other, she wouldn’t even know where to begin. Quinn puts his arm around her, pulling her closer to him by her waist. He looks at her while Brock and Elias continue bickering, smiling at her and giving her a soft kiss on her forehead.
The guys interrupt them, jeering and teasing them to the point where Ellie has her face buried in Quinn’s shoulder, trying to hide from the embarrassment. “So, Ellie, what do you see in El Capitan here?” Brock asks, giving the most obnoxious facial expression possible.
“You do not have to answer that,” Elias tells her. “Brock has no idea how to interact with anyone, just ignore him.”
“That’s not true.”
“You thought a good pick up line to use on a girl was ‘you dropped something, my jaw,’ the other night and then were shocked when she just turned and walked away,” Elias says, earning a laugh from Ellie and Quinn.
“You have definitely taken a girl out on a date and then talked about yourself the entire time,” Quinn adds, Brock shrinking further into his seat.
“You look like the kind of guy that would go to a bookstore and pretend to look lost to see if a girl would talk to you,” Ellie adds, sending the guys into a frenzy.
“He wouldn’t have to pretend to be lost,” Elias says, poking a pouting Brock in the leg. “You should come around more, Ellie.”
“She’s spent too much time with Quinn already,” Brock whines, Quinn pulling her so she’s practically in his lap, kissing her cheek.
“I told you,” he whispers, just loud enough for only her to hear. “I need you to come around more, too.” Ellie turns to him, her cheeks burning before they both burst out laughing. “That sounded horrible.”
The four of them fall into an easy conversation, the three boys doing everything they can to make Ellie feel included, not shying away from teasing her like they were each other earlier. She felt comfortable.
Ellie eventually excused herself to go to the bathroom and get more drinks for her and Quinn, the alcohol finally hitting her. She barely finds her way back to the room the guys were in, Thatcher’s house seeming much bigger now that she wasn’t sober and much harder to navigate without Quinn taking her around.
She didn’t mean to listen to their conversation, standing on other side of the opening without them seeing her.
“Brock, I swear, if brains were dynamite, you wouldn’t be able to blow your fucking nose,” she hears Elias say, stiffling a laugh as Brock mumbles something about not meaning to spill his drink on Elias.
“Anyway,” Quinn grunts, sounding like he was getting off the floor.
“Ellie is awesome, by the way,” Elias says, Ellie sure she missed some sort of segue that could have led the conversation from Brock to Ellie.
“She’s snarky,” Brock adds, Ellie hearing a smack and Brock letting out a cough. “That’s not a bad thing.”
“I met her by accident but I cannot think about what it would be like without her now,” she hears Quinn say, Ellie trying to figure out if she actually heard him right. That sounded like he was much more serious about her than she thought he was.
“Woah, Quinn,” Elias says. “You met her a few months ago.”
“God, I know,” she hears Quinn let out. “But you know how you just know sometimes? You run into this person one day and they just make your life better?”
“You guys made my life worse since I met you,” Brock mutters. “I say goodnight to her every night and I can’t wait until I can say good morning to her the next day.”
“You’re a simp.”
“Can you blame me? She’s perfect.”
Ellie finally enters the room, trying her best to pretend that she didn’t just hear everything Quinn told his friends, the ones he told her he would trust with anything. It had to mean something that they already knew who she was before coming and that he could tell them those things unprovoked.
Quinn lights up at the sight of her, giving her another kiss and wrapping his arms around her when she sits down. “You took a bit,” he comments.
“This house is confusing,” she lies.
Elias and Brock continue to bicker while ignoring Ellie and Quinn. Ellie eventually finishes her drink, along with the third one that Brock had managed to hand off to her at some point, sinking down so her head was in Quinn’s lap.
“How often do you think about the future?”
“I mean, I’m normally thinking about what I’m making for my next meal once I finish the one I’m eating.”
Ellie groans, their hands intertwined and in constant movement, suddenly regretting how much they had both had to drink. She looks up at him, a smile on her face despite the look on his that told her he had absolutely no thoughts behind those eyes. “Like, us in the future. Our future.”
“Huh,” Quinn starts, “I don’t know. I like us right now where we are.”
Ellie nods, trying to hide the disappointment that she felt. Why could he tell Elias and Brock what he thought about her, but not tell her? He hadn’t even called her his girlfriend to her face, yet. Were they even boyfriend and girlfriend yet? Was it too early to even ask, or should she even ask at all?
They were staying over at Thatcher’s house at this point, neither of them in the position to drive, Elias and Brock electing to stay on the couches. Quinn pulls her up and kisses her, a yawn escaping her after he pulls away. “Want to head to bed? Thatch said we can snag one of the guest rooms.”
Ellie nodded, Quinns hand in hers as he lead her down the hallway. She should be nervous, the first night they were spending together completely unplanned and in one of his teammates house instead of somewhere special.
But it was with Quinn.
She was fine.

“When are you going to be ready?”
“When I am.”
“You’re taking way too long.”
“I am not taking too long, you got ready too quickly.”
“Kendyl, I took an hour to get ready to meet Quinn and his friends, and you started getting ready before I got here,” Ellie groans, lying down on Kendyl’s bed. The group chat Ellie had with Quinn and the guys was blowing up, asking where Ellie and Kendyl were. After meeting Kendyl a while back, Quinn was convinced she would be the person to set Brock straight. Ellie wasn’t convinced, but what was the harm of introducing them?
“I’m meeting a Canuck, tonight, El, I have to look good.”
Ellie sits up, looking at Kendyl in her mirror. She knew her friend was nervous. No matter what she could say, nothing would change. “I promise you, you could wear nothing more than a trash bag and Brock would be drooling over you.”
Kendyl took a deep breath. “Are you sure?”
“Ken, you’re beautiful. You’re funny. You can verbally spar with anyone to get what you want at any time. If you decide you want something to happen with Brock, there’s no way he wouldn’t agree to it.”
Kendyl nods, finally getting up and grabbing Ellie’s hand and her coat to drag her out the door.
“Are we sure we’re going to have fun?” Kendyl asks, the shaking in her voice something Ellie had never seen before.
“You sound like me now.” It was still winter in Vancouver, the below freezing temperatures combined with the warmest bar appropriate outfits they had not enough to actually keep them warm as they walked through the city to meet all of the guys.
“What are they like? I only know Quinn.”
Ellie has to stop and think for a moment. How did she even begin to describe them? “I think you just have to wait and see. Quinn is nothing like them.”
“Oh, my god, you hate your boyfriend's friends.”
“No, what?” Ellie asks, unable to hide her laughter. “I really like his friends. I’m getting closer with Elias and Brock is definitely good for a laugh when you need it.”
Kendyl nods, both of them shivering as they walk. Quinn had such a warm jacket, Ellie thought back to the night the two of them met. She wouldn’t have been able to see herlife with Quinn coming. She thought Kendyl was just an annoying coworker, Quinn would be just a hook up, and that she would end up having to move home because of her mom and Alex. She never thought it would be this.
They get to the bar after feeling like they were walking forever, Quinn making a beeline to Ellie as soon as they made eye contact. “God, I’m happy you’re here,” he slurs, planting a sloppy kiss on her cheek.
“Wow, you’re already drunk,” she points out, trying to push him away slightly. Quinn had told her they were going into a break in the season, so getting drunk was necessary. She had seen him a little drunk, more tipsy than anything, but never like this, and never in public. “Let’s get you some water, babe.”
Quinn lets out a giggle, slinging his arm around Ellie while she focuses on him instead of getting Kendyl over to Brock. She looks around the bar for her friend, or at least one of the guys to hopefully help her make sure he doesn’t go much farther than he already was with the alcohol.
“Ellie, right?” she hears from behind her as she sets Quinn down at the booth in the back where the rest of the guys were seated. She turns around, one of the new guys in the office standing behind her, glass of beer in hand.
“Uh, yeah, hey. Dylan, right?”
“Declan, actually,” he corrects her, a quick apology escaping her lips. “Sorry, I don’t mean to interrupt, I just saw Kendyl over by the bar and she mentioned you were here. I wanted to say hi.”
Even though it was darker in the bar, Ellie swears she saw him blushing, fidgeting and acting nervous in front of her. The guys didn’t seem to notice she was even standing there, but Declan seemed to be trying to take in everything about her.
“Are you here with anyone?” she asks, feeling Quinn pull her into his lap, Ellie falling without an ounce of grace down towards him. “Sorry, this is my boyfriend, Quinn, and some of his friends.”
“Uh, hi,” he says, Ellie feeling Quinns arms wrap tighter around her as Declan talks, “I’m here with my roommate, but I lost him about half an hour ago.”
“You should join us then,” Quinn says, moving him and Ellie further into the booth to make room for Declan. The tone in his voice told her he really didn’t want to do that.
Kendyl finally comes back with drinks, Quinn taking the beer that was meant for Ellie and downing it much faster than he should have. Brock was already captivated by Kendyl as soon as she sat down, Elias rolling his eyes as he was making a fool of himself, Kendyl finding it weirdly endearing.
“So, Deacon,” Quinn starts, much louder than he should have been. “How do you know my girlfriend?”
“Uh,” Declan says, as caught off guard by Quinn’s sudden shift in mood as Ellie is, “I work with her. Just started about a month ago.”
Quinn nods. “What did you do before this?”
“I was a nurse in the ICU at Vancouver General.”
“Couldn’t handle it, Derek?”
“Quinn, what?” Ellie scoffs.
Declan coughs, clearly getting uncomfortable fast. “It was a lot, so no. I liked helping people, but seeing traumatic thing after traumatic thing takes a toll on you really fast. So I went back to school and ended up with Ellie and Kendyl.”
“Ah, a college degree.”
“Quinn,” Ellie hissed. She didn’t like where this was going, Quinn holding on to Ellie like he was marking his territory.
“I actually don’t have my degree, yet.”
“Interesting thing to brag about?” Declan says, nervously sipping on his beer.
“Well, it’s hard to finish when you get called up to play with the Canucks, you know?”
Declan shrugs. “Is that the CFL team? I don’t follow sports.”
Ellie gets off Quinns lap, pushing Declan aside and dragging Quinn along with her. She didn’t need to hear what Quinn was going to say next. He was starting to act like a jackass and she didn’t want to see more.
The two of them end up outside, the cold hitting Ellie like a slap in face. “What is wrong with you? He wasn’t doing anything for you to act like that to him.”
“I don’t like him,” Quinn pouts.
“You just met him.”
“I don’t like people who are trying to take my girl.”
Ellie can’t help but scoff. “‘Take your girl?’ What, am I your property? Did you get a good dowry? How many sheep did you have to give my family in exchange for your hand?”
Quinn rolls his eyes. “Come on, Ellie.”
“No, Quinn, you come on. He wasn’t hitting on me. He doesn’t even know me to like me.”
“Of course he likes you, Ellie, look at you.” Quinn takes a step closer to her, suddenly getting softer towards her. “You’re so pretty. You’re so smart. You know what to do with everything.”
“If he likes me, that doesn’t matter,” Ellie snaps, still annoyed with him. “I don’t like him. I like you. I’m dating you. That should be enough for you to not act like an asshole towards him.”
Quinn hangs his head. “I’m sorry.”
“You should be saying that to him.”
The two of them stand there in the cold in silence, Ellie not wanting to budge and Quinn wanting her to go with him. “Come with me?”
Ellie bites her lip, her mood ruined because of him in just a short amount of time. “I think I’m going to go home. I’m tired, anyway.”
“Let me walk you?” Just like the night they met.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll let you know when I’m back.”
They stand there for another moment, Quinn making the first move to pull Ellie in for a kiss. “I love you, Ellie.”
Ellie hadn’t been thinking about love with him yet. She wasn’t there yet. “Goodnight, Quinn,” she told him, turning and walking away, leaving him there on the sidewalk.
___________________
“Have you ever loved anyone?”
“Uh, you.”
“Not that kind of love, idiot.”
“Oh, um. I was in love with Tess Virtue for a while there.”
“While I get that, I still don’t mean that kind of love, Alex.”
Alex laughs on the other end of the call, Ellie getting ready for work while he got ready for class. “El, you’re the other sister here, aren’t I supposed to be asking you this?”
Ellie and Quinn were in a weird place since Ellie left that night. She had hoped that Quinn was too drunk to remember that he had told her loved her and Ellie’s response was just to walk away. She didn’t know if she was in love with him. She knew she wanted to be with him. She didn’t know if she loved him.
“I mean,” Ellie starts, not sure where to go.
“Are you and Quinn ok?” Ellie tells her brother everything that happened, Alex staying silent for a few seconds after she finished. “Ellie, you did this last time.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Not to go psychology major on you,” Alex says, earning a groan from his sister, “But I think you’re more messed up from Dad leaving than you like to admit you are. You have what sounds like a solid relationship with this guy but you’re afraid that if you let him love you and you let yourself love him, that he’s going to leave just like Dad did. He left us with Mom and we never got that love back.”
Ellie takes a deep breath. “Jesus. At least I know your degree is worth it.”
“I could be wrong. I’m only six semesters into this degree, after all.”
“I hate you.”
“I love you, too, El.”
Everything goes back to her parents. There’s no reason she couldn’t love Quinn.
She was in a daze on her commute to the office. Does she love him? Regardless of Alex’s psychoanalysis, even if their dad leaving them with their mom made her think anyone who would love her would leave, is she able to love him?
She wanted to be with him, but she didn’t know what it was like to love him.
“You look horrible,” Kendyl says, Declan trying not to make eye contact with her at their little desk clump, probably trying to not agree.
“Thank you, for that,” Ellie huffs, dropping her bag on the floor before she falls into her chair. “I just had a weird morning. Don’t really want to talk about it.”
The morning passes by in a blur, the menial tasks of her job at least giving Ellie something to take her mind off Quinn. Anytime her mind would start to wander, anytime she thought about him in any way, she would just switch back to work mode and force herself to do whatever it is she needed to do.
“Hey,” Ellie thinks she hears from behind her, someone sounding just like Quinn. She ignored it, figuring it was just her imagination and her officially losing her mind over what was going on in her relationship. “Babe?”
Ellie jumps, thoroughly surprised that Quinn was actually standing behind her. “I thought you were leaving for Florida today.”
Quinn pulls her up, kissing her hello, a soft look on his face that told Ellie that everything was ok. “We leave in a few hours, so I wanted to come by and surprise you. Do you have a minute?”
Ellie nods, following Quinn down to the lobby of the building. She knew that if she went somewhere in the office, Kendyl would probably have her ear glued to the other side of the wall of whatever room they were in to try to listen to their conversation.
“So, you don’t love me,” Quinn lets out slowly, pausing a little between each word, breaking Ellie’s heart each time.
“God,” she lets out.
“It’s ok.” They stand in silence, what they had with each other when they first met already somehow dying off between them. “I’m ok.”
“I want to love you. You know I have other things going on that are messing with my mind. You know me.”
Quinn rolls his eyes, Ellie taking a step back. “What, the stuff with your mom?” Ellie gives him a small nod. “You can’t keep using that as an excuse, Ellie,” he snaps.
Ellie recoils at his words, the person in front of her not the same one who told her would always be there for her when she needed him, that he would help if she would let him and that he wanted to be there, for her and with her, for everything. This was someone who wouldn’t do any of that. “It’s not an excuse. It’s my life, Quinn. You grew up never having to worry about coming home from school and learning that the lights were turned off, or getting scared that the heat would get cut off in the middle of the winter, or that you were two days away from living in a car,” she nearly yells at him, catching him off guard. “I’m sorry that it messed me up and I’m trying to fix it and at least be honest with you about it because I want to be with you.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, you idiot. I want to be with you. But I don’t know what it’s like to be loved by someone who stays. I don’t know what it’s like to love someone who wants to stay. I think I love you, but I don’t think that my work is the place to figure it out.”
Quinn smiles at her, hugging her and holding her tight, every part of her relaxing as he does so. “That’s all I need. That’s all I want.”

“Ok, if we have to stay all night, then we’re ordering food.”
“I never agreed to staying all night.”
“Ellie, we have to get this done before we go home.”
“Yeah, but I have plans tonight. I’m not staying all night, extra pay or not.”
Declan groans, a stupid smile on his face. “Are you driving to these plans tonight?”
Ellie gets a bad feeling in her stomach, one that puts a smile on her face regardless. This project had forced them together much more often than Quinn probably would have liked if he found out. The client was demanding it be done three weeks faster than anticipated, which meant they had to get it done before Monday. “Nope. Why?” Declan gets up from the table the two of them and Kendyl are sitting at in the conference room to give them more space to spread out, running over to his desk and yanking one of the drawers open. “Dex, what are you doing?” Ellie calls.
The three of them had already been in the office much longer than everyone else, the rest of their colleagues having left early for the weekend while the three of them stayed behind.
Ellie had plans with Quinn that night for the first time in a while.
“Getting this,” Declan says, pulling her out of the spiraling thoughts she was having about her relationship.
He holds up three plastic red cups and a bottle of rum, the one alcohol that Ellie could stomach without any mixer, a sociopathic tendency as Kendyl would call it. “Why is that there?” Kendyl asks.
Declan shrugs, popping open the bottle with ease and pouring way more than a single shot into each of the cups. “One of the clients gave it to me as a thank you.”
“We never get alcohol as a thank you,” Ellie scoffs, Kendyl agreeing.
“Men,” Kendyl rolls her eyes.
Declan laughs, raising his cup to Ellie and clinking it against hers, downing it in a few seconds as he watches Ellie do the same. Both of them cough, the liquid burning down their throats much more than they were expecting, neither of them breaking eye contact with each other while forgetting Kendyl was there with them. “Alright, we work until we’re done. We refill when we need to.”
Ellie smiles at him, the warmth of the alcohol already coursing through her. Her phone starts buzzing, a call coming in from someone whose contact she can’t quite make out. “No phones.”
The three of them get to work, the sun setting without them realizing it as their phones keep buzzing over and over again. They weren’t even entirely sure what the project was that their boss was asking of them, but then again, when were they ever?
They had to have been working for at least two hours straight without moving, feeling like they hadn’t even made a dent in the amount of tasks they had for the project. “I need to go home,” Kendyl groans, rubbing her hands over her face.
“We need to finish this,” Ellie points out.
“We need more alcohol.” Declan gets up, already somehow emptying the bottle into their three cups. He winks at Ellie, yet again ignoring Kendyl and sending a chill down Ellie’s spine before heading back out of the conference room without another word.
Kendyl squeals once he’s out of earshot, shaking Ellie’s arm. “Oh, my god, he is so obsessed with you.”
“He is not,” Ellie insists, the heat running to her cheeks at the thought of her coworker liking her. She’s dating Quinn. Dating a coworker is out of the question. Dating Delcan isn’t even a thought.
“Ellie, I’m not even here when he’s around. You two are flirting so much.”
“I’m not sure you know what flirting is.”
“What about Quinn?”
Ellie’s stomach churned at his name. “Quinn and I are fine,” she tells Kendyl, trying to ignore how high her voice got involuntarily.
“El.”
“Ken.”
“You’re lying to me.” Ellie bites her lip, hating that Kendyl knew her well enough to tell. “What’s going on with you two? You were off last time I saw you together.”
Ellie sees Declan out of the corner of her eye shifting around the desks outside the conference room. “I have no idea.” Kendyl stays silent, Ellie feeling like she has to fill the space. “We see each other less and less now, part of it because of both our jobs right now.”
“Well, that makes sense, that happens.”
“But when we do spend time together, we don’t say anything. We barely talk anymore at all. It’s like we ran out of things to say.”
“Who has nothing to say?” Declan interrupts, plopping down in his chair with another bottle of rum.
“Ellie and Quinn. Why do you have another bottle?” Kendyl asks.
“I have many bottles. Who’s Quinn?”
“Ellie’s boyfriend.”
Declan just nods, giving Ellie an uneasy feeling as they both take a sip of their drinks again, the eye contact between them mixed with the alcohol making her mind spin. “We’re just going through a weird phase right now. We’ll get through it.”
Kendyl recaps what Ellie told her, unprompted, to Declan, who infuriatingly just sits there, the alcohol making him look way too attractive for Ellie’s liking. “You don’t want my opinion, do you?” he asks.
“Kendyl gives me hers all the time when I don’t want it, you might as well give yours.”
“You’re both busy. That happens.”
“See?” Ellie prods Kendyl.
“But,” Declan starts again, Kendyl sticking her tongue out at Ellie like a child, “Being busy could also mean not being willing to make time for each other.”
Ellie took in a deep breath, hating what he was saying. It wasn’t like he said that much, but he said enough. The room suddenly felt too small, the work too overwhelming, the alcohol hitting her all at once. “I’m going to go to the bathroom,” she says, practically running out of the room.
Are she and Quinn not making enough time for each other? Are they just ending their relationship without saying that it’s over? She didn’t think she wanted to break up with him, but at this point, what was staying with him doing for her?
Ellie looks at herself in the mirror. She didn’t know if it was the alcohol distorting her perception of herself or if it was the mirror that probably hadn’t been cleaned in a while, but she didn’t look like herself. She looked off. She had felt off for a while, but she had no idea why.
Was it because of Quinn? Ellie had heard that to be loved was to be changed, but what happens when you don’t like how you’ve changed? How much should she fight to get things back to the way there were when they first started seeing each other? What has to happen for her to just give up instead?
“Hey, sorry,” Declan startles Ellie, causing her to lose her balance and stumble against the sink. “I’m sorry that I upset you.”
“No, uh,” Ellie starts, wiping a tear from her cheek she didn’t even know had fallen, “You didn’t upset me.”
“Can I ask you something?” Declan’s voice is gentle as he takes a step closer to you, waiting for her to nod. “If you aren’t happy, why are you still with him?”
Ellie shrugs, not wanting to look at him. If she looks, she’ll fall apart. “I love him. I do. He knows me better than anyone. I’ve told him things I haven’t told anyone outside of my family, not even Kendyl. But sometimes,” she takes in a breath, her voice shaking. “Sometimes I wonder if it was all for nothing. We have no time for each other anymore. I see Kendyl more than I see him.”
“Ellie,” he says, his voice low as he steps closer to her. She was sure he could hear her heart racing.
She was dating Quinn.
Quinn.
“Oh, fuck,” Ellie practically yells. “What time is it?”
“Uh, 8:30.”
“Quinn was picking me up at 8:15.” Ellie runs from the bathroom, leaving Declan calling after her. She grabs her stuff from the conference room without saying a word to Kendyl.
She hears Declan in the background, calling after her as she runs down the stairs, dropping things in the stairwell that she doesn’t bother to pick up. She was rattled, Quinn already waiting for what had now become twenty minutes without her so much as texting him back the entire time.
Declan catches up to her, everything she’s dropped in his hands when she bursts through the front door of the building, Quinn’s car at the curb with him leaning against it scrolling on his phone. He looks up, his eyes going between his disheveled girlfriend and the one guy that she talked to that he was worried about, equally out of breath and carrying her things, both of them looking panicked.
He could tell Ellie was drunk. He knew she was drinking with him.
“What is this, Ellie?” he asks, trying to keep a calm tone in his voice as best as he can.
Ellie starts stammering, the alcohol not helping her at all. “We were doing that project I told you about, we lost track of time. I know I’m late but I wasn’t looking at my phone so we could finish as fast as possible.”
Quinn takes in a deep breath, looking up to the sky so he didn’t have to see her reaction to what he was about to say. “Ellie, I know he likes you. I told you likes you the night I met him. And, I know you like him, even if you don’t realize it yet. What am I doing here?”
Ellie steps toward him, her legs starting to shake as she tried to process what he was saying. “Quinn, you’re taking me out. You said we were meeting the guys tonight.”
“No, Ellie. I am. You’re gonna stay here. You’re gonna finish the project. You’re going to spend the night with Declan. You should be with someone who has time for you.”
“Quinn.”
“We’ve both been busy. We’ve both had way too many things going on to focus on each other. We deserve better. You deserve better.”
“Quinn,” she repeats, standing right in front of him. She reaches up to his cheek, him leaning into her touch as he finally looks at her. “What are you saying?”
“You know, Ellie.”
They stand there, forgetting Declan behind them and ignoring the world around them. Quinn cups her cheeks, kissing her like he did the very first time. “Bye, Eleanor.”
“Bye, Quinn,” Ellie whispers, not wanting to let go.
Everything happened so fast. Ellie stood on the curb, wanting to drop her things right on the sidewalk and chase after him as he got in his car and drove away. She didn’t move as Declan came up behind her, gently putting his arm around her to try to comfort her. She didn’t hear him say that he wanted to get her back inside so that Kendyl could be with her, so that she’d have someone she trusted to talk to after what just happened.
She just stood there.
___________________
Quinn was miserable. The guys were all with their partners, while Quinn sat in the middle with no one by his side. All he had was the beer in front of him that he didn’t even want to drink.
He should be happy. They were already having a great season. They had already secured a playoff spot. The team was playing to have fun and winning was coming because of it.
Brock comes up to him with Kendyl, the two of them still going strong. Quinn liked Kendyl, but seeing her still reminded him of Ellie, even if the two of them didn’t work together anymore.
“Come on, buck up. There are plenty of girls here that you could at least talk to,” Brock tries to encourage him.
Quinn just shrugs him off, slowly turning the glass of beer around on the table. He wasn’t in the mood to be there, but there was no way the guys would let him leave this early.
Brock leaves to get another round of drinks, Kendyl staying behind. “She’s doing ok, you know,” she says, barely above a whisper.
Quinn sighs. “I miss her.”
Kendyl puts her hand on his shoulder, giving him a sympathetic smile. I know.”
They sit for a moment, both of them unsure what to say next. What do you say to someone who was still broken over something that should have never shattered in the first place?
“Hey, isn’t that that Dexter guy you work with?” Elias comes over and asks, pointing to the other side of the bar.
Quinn feels the air escape his lungs, Ellie and Declan together, Declan holding on to her as a guy moved past them, pressing their bodies against each other. She didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity to drape her arms on his shoulders, getting up on her toes to kiss him, their foreheads pressed together when they pull away while they looked at each other like they were the only people in the world.
“She’s happy,” Kendyl says.
“She’s happier,” Quinn corrects her, his heart breaking at the fact that he couldn’t do that for her.

When Spencer told me that the water damage in his apartment made it necessary to find a place to stay for a couple of days, I didn’t even think twice before inviting him to come live with me. He was hesitant at first but after a little bit of encouragement he took my offer at last.
I soon realized that I hadn’t taken into consideration that my secret desire for my coworker could make things a little complicated. There was an undeniable tension between the two of us, so much so that I had convinced myself that he had to feel it too. My skin had been flushed and heated for days now and that had nothing to do with the current heatwave.
Just when I thought that I couldn’t possibly get more hot and bothered, the air-conditioning in my apartment stopped working.
The cold shower helped to cool down my skin but my blood still felt like it was boiling ever since I saw Spencer in ridiculously short gym shorts and a plain shirt sitting on the couch earlier. It was understandable that he didn’t feel like wearing actual pants now that my place had become uncomfortably hot, but seeing so much of his skin exposed was doing things to me.
As I stood in front of my wardrobe, I contemplated which outfit choice would accommodate my current state the best. It was then that I started to smirk to myself, deciding to take into action what Spencer had said to me a few days prior.
Please don’t act any differently than you usually would just because I’m around. It’s still your apartment.
Keeping his words and the current temperature in my apartment in mind, not putting too many clothes on felt like the natural thing to do. Being excited to see Spencer’s reaction to my matching set of black underwear and nothing else on my body was just a pleasant side effect. Or so I told myself.
“I swear if the landlord doesn’t fix the A/C soon, I’m gonna melt,” I whined as I stepped out of my bedroom.
Without looking up from his book Spencer mumbled, “That’s very unlikely.”
As I approached the couch, his eyes finally left the pages in front of him to look at me instead. I could see the immediate regret in his face once he glanced over my body. He cleared his throat and shifted his position on the couch, very suspiciously lowering the book in his hands to lay in his lap. I had a hunch that he wished he wasn’t wearing those flimsy shorts now.
With cheeks tinted in a crimson shade, he averted his eyes from me, muttering something inaudibly.
“I’m sorry, what was that?” I snickered while sitting down beside him.
He still didn’t dare looking at me and I noticed droplets of sweat building on his forehead.
“Uhm… you forgot to put on clothes,” he muttered.
“I didn’t forget, silly. I’m trying to prevent heat exhaustion. And I am wearing clothes,” I giggled.
From the corners of his eyes he looked at me, only to close his lids just a split second later.
“You said I shouldn’t act any differently with you around and I’m most comfortable in as little clothing as possible in this heat.”
My eyes fell to the book in his lap, curious what I would find if I dared to remove it. I didn’t do it, though, Spencer already seemed uncomfortable as is. A part of me felt bad for making him feel this way, but a larger part felt very accomplished to have proof that Spencer was at least somewhat attracted to me.
“I’m sorry, I can cover up if it bothers you,” I offered, almost pitying him.
“No!” He almost shouted. “This is your home. I’ll just go to the other room.”
He attempted to stand up only to abort his mission a second later when he seemed to remember why he covered his crotch with a book. “...in a minute,” he added, defeated.
I wondered if he still hoped that I hadn’t noticed his current state or if he had already given up on that. Knowing that apparently he got hard just by seeing me in underwear evoked a spark in me, curious to find out what effects other actions could have.
When I got up from the couch to walk over to the kitchen, I could have sworn that I heard him sigh in relief to be gone from his sight. If he had been a smarter man, he could have used my absence to disappear into the guest bedroom. He didn’t though, instead he kept sitting on the couch, waiting for my return as if he had not yet seen enough of my outfit.
As I poured myself a drink, I came up with an idea to test the waters some more. I added a copious amount of ice cubes into my water glass before I went back over to the couch. Spencer seemed to have relaxed a little, the initial shock of seeing me half-naked seemed to have worn off.
He even dared to look at me now, even though it didn’t stay unnoticed that he tried really hard to keep his eyes glued to my face and not let them fall further down my body.
“Did your landlord say anything about how long this could take?”
Smart boy, trying to make conversation to distract himself.
“No, he wasn’t very specific about that. I think I’ll call again tomorrow,” I sincerely answered.
I fished an ice cube out of my drink and purred, “Looks like we need to find other ways to cool down until then.”
Our eyes locked when I took the little cube between my fingers and let it glide over my neck and collarbone. The cold sensation shocked my system, all my cells suddenly feeling hyper aware of everything around me. It was then that I noticed that Spencer’s body seemed to be a greater source of heat than the summer sun was.
The reddish shade had spread from his cheeks all over his face and down his neck. I saw his adam’s apple bob up and down as he swallowed hard, clearly trying to focus to not let his sight drop from my face. His lips parted as his breathing seemed a little faster than usual, a single droplet of sweat falling down from his temple.
When my fingers wandered lower, I let the ice cube draw a wet path over my skin until it reached the seam of my bra. That was the moment Spencer lost his composure, letting his sight drop to my chest while a whimper escaped his throat. The sound went through my body like lightning, the heat that had spread in my chest suddenly rushing down to my center.
The peaks of my breasts hardened at the coolness of the frozen cube and I was sure Spencer was able to make out their outlines through the thin lace of my bra. I let the ice cube wander over the swell of my breasts until the last bit of it melted. That was when his eyes found mine again, now darkened with pupils blown wide.
It took me a second to be able to read his expression. When I noticed his tongue darting out to wet his lips, I knew it: Spencer was yearning to taste me.
Deciding I still wasn’t done teasing him just yet, I took another ice cube from my glass and moved over on the couch until my body pressed into his side.
“What is it, Spencer?” I snickered. “You seem so tense and hot.”
Before he could manage to get words out, I let the ice meet the skin of his neck. He tensed at the contact and granted me another one of his little whines. He felt so hot under my touch that I was surprised the liquid didn’t evaporate immediately. He tensed his hands around the edges of the book still laying in his lap while I let the ice cube run up and down his neck, my face mere inches away from his.
Looking at me seemed to be too much for him, so instead he closed his eyes. I moved even closer until I was sure he could feel my breath against his face.
“Is this helping?” I mocked while drawing little circles on his skin with the ice cube.
“God,” he groaned with his eyes still closed, “you’re going to kill me.”
The choice of his words let me hesitate and I leaned back slightly, offering, “I can stop if you want.”
His eyes shot open, finding mine in an instant. “No! Please don’t stop.”
There was no way to stop the smug grin from forming on my face. The ice cube was completely melted by now but my fingertips kept lingering on his neck. His pulse was elevated and the crimson shade of his skin almost made him glow.
Leaning closer to him, I still let a gap remain between our lips to give him a chance to move away from me. I wanted to make sure when I whispered, “Do you want me, Spencer?”
He closed the distance between our lips, kissing me with a fervor that knocked the air out of my lungs. His hands forgot about the book in his lap, letting it tumble to the floor as they gripped my waist instead. I climbed into his lap, my arms around his neck to pull him even closer. When I lowered my hips onto his thighs, I felt his cock straining hard against the thin material of his gym shorts.
As we deepened our kiss, I started grinding my hips against him timidly, the flimsy fabric of my panties hardly providing a barrier between my core and his hardness. When a moan escaped my mouth, I felt him smile against my lips and his confidence seemed to grow. His hands wandered from my waist down to my hips, his fingertips burying into the supple flesh as he encouraged my motions.
When I moved over his length just the right way, he praised me with the sweetest moan I had ever heard. His mouth left my lips to kiss down my neck instead, sucking and licking on sensitive skin, careless about leaving some broken blood vessels along his path. His palms glided over my back, exploring my body as if his life depended on it. When his fingertips found the clasp of my bra, he was quick to undo it, removing the fabric from my body.
He leaned back slightly, letting his eyes roam over the curves and dips of my body before he continued his mission to my undoing. Without a warning, his mouth closed around the hardened peak of one breast while his hand found the other one, kneading it gently. I threw my head back as a sigh escaped my lips while my fingers found his hair, intertwining with his curls to keep him in place.
Although I was the one on top, it was clear to me that he was in control. Not for long, though. A little harsher than I had anticipated, I took a fistful of his hair and yanked his head back, making him whine in protest. He smirked at me while licking his lips, still looking hungry to taste more of me. My hands wandered down to the hem of his shirt, pulling it upwards.
“You’re wearing way too many clothes for this heat,” I whispered while pulling the piece of clothing over his head.
He looked down at my almost completely exposed body and chuckled, “You’re leading by good example.”
“Yeah?” I snickered as I climbed off his lap to sit down on the couch beside him, “Feel free to follow my lead, then.”
He hesitated to do what I had implied, giving me time to glance down at those ridiculous gym shorts some more. The outline of his erection was clearly visible, making it obvious that he wasn’t wearing anything underneath his shorts. I leaned against his side as I let my fingertips run down his upper body, noticing his muscles tense underneath my touch. When I reached the waistband of his pants, I traced along the fabric without actually touching him where he was clearly longing to feel me.
“Those fucking shorts,” I cooed, ”You have no idea what you do to me when you’re wearing them.”
“You’re one to talk when it comes to outfit choices.”
“Getting a little cocky now, huh? I didn’t know your lips even knew how to form words that aren’t polite,” I mocked him.
He raised his eyebrows at me while moving away from my side, sliding off the couch and chuckling, “Clearly you’re underestimating the abilities of my mouth.”
It took me a moment to process what was happening, speechless when I saw Spencer kneeling on the floor before me. His hands gently separated my knees as he started to kiss up my legs. With one swift motion he hooked his arms around my thighs to pull me forward to the edge of the couch. I let my legs rest on his shoulders while he explored the sensitive skin of the insides of my thighs until he reached my center.
I was sure that my panties must have been soaked by now. Spencer’s lips met the fabric, kissing along my covered slit until I started rocking against his face, getting desperate to feel him more. Hooking his fingers around the waistband of my underwear, he pulled it down and let it drop to the floor beside him. His mouth was on me once more, leaving feather light kisses on wet skin until I felt like I was losing my mind.
When I couldn’t handle his teasing anymore, my hands flew to his hair to push him further into me. He understood what I wanted, his tongue gliding through my folds as if he had done it a million times before. I dared to look down at him then and couldn’t stop the moan from leaving my lips at the sight in front of me.
He was staring up at me, clearly studying my reaction to each of his ministrations, his eyes dark and filled with lust. Seeing him on his knees with his face buried between my legs, eager to please me, excited me more than I could put into words. He seemed to notice that by the way my hips started to rock almost erratically against his face. Without breaking eye contact, he moved one of his hands to my entrance, teasing it before letting two of his fingers slowly glide into me.
“Fuck, Spencer,” I panted, “That feels so good.”
He hummed against my folds in excitement as he started to work his fingers inside me. It didn’t take much more until I fell over the edge, my walls fluttering around his digits as I gasped out his name. He didn’t stop until I started pushing him away right before the stimulation got too much for me to bear. Still, he lingered between my legs and gently kissed down my thighs while I tried to catch my breath, my eyes closed and my head thrown back against the couch.
When he sat down on the couch beside me, his lips met my cheeks briefly before he whispered, “You okay?”
I opened my eyes to look at him, finding him softly smiling at me. “Yes. I’m good.”
I found his lips in a hungry kiss, feeling my vigor kick back in as I pressed my body against his. My palm glided down his chest and over his stomach until I found the waistband of his shorts once more. This time I didn’t tease him, my hand finding his cock through the fabric of his shorts, brushing over it with enough pressure to make him gasp.
My fingertips made their way underneath the waistband, moving over velvety skin without a barrier. The urge to experience him in the same way I let him experience me moments before overcame me, so I slid off the couch to kneel before him.
He looked at me with a startled expression. “You… you don’t have to do this,” he stammered.
“I know. But I really want to,” I purred as I pulled down his shorts.
I wrapped my hand around his cock and gave him a few strokes, my thumb gliding over his leaking tip. A groan rumbled through his chest and he looked down at me with half-lidded eyes and glowing cheeks. His fingertips brushed over the side of my face as if he was encouraging me to do what I was planning to anyway.
I left soft kisses along his shaft before letting my tongue glide over his tip, collecting his taste in my mouth. When I closed my lips around him, I locked eyes with him. He moaned out my name when I sank down on him, a broken “Fuck!” following soon after. With my hand I covered what couldn’t fit in my mouth as I moved along his hardness, eliciting the sweet sounds of his undoing from his throat.
I felt him twitch against my tongue, warning me that he got closer to his breaking point. At this point I felt my own arousal practically dripping down my thighs, still not having had enough of him. My mouth left his length but my hand kept caressing him, making him tremble under my touch.
“I’m happy to finish you like this but I would really like to know how your cock feels inside of me,” I admitted.
He stared at me with raised eyebrows, clearly trying to make sense of what I was saying. When his brain finally caught up, he placed his hand on mine to remove it from his erection, pulling me up from the floor and guiding me into his lap until I was straddling him.
I wanted to let him know, “I’m on birth control and I just got tested.”
He nodded. “I trust you.”
With his hands cradling my face, he pulled me closer until our lips met. His kiss was soft and unhurried, contradicting the desperation growing inside me. He pulled back to look at me.
“Are you sure about this?” He wondered.
“Yes. I want you, Spencer. I have dreamed about this for a really long time,” I reassured him.
“You have?”
I nodded as I let my hand sneak between our bodies to guide his cock into my heat. As I sank down on him, I muttered, “Yes.. I have. But… reality exceeds my imagination by far.”
I relished the sensation of him stretching me open, halting my movement when I felt him at my deepest point. Kissing down his neck, I slowly started to rock my hips against his, slightly readjusting my position until I found the perfect angle. Spencer’s hands flew to my hips, gripping me harshly and moving along with my motions.
Our lips met in a feverish kiss, tongues brushing against one another as if they longed to merge. My movements became quicker every second passing, ignoring the burning sensation in my thighs. I was already looking forward to sore muscles reminding me of this exact moment the next few days.
Spencer must have noticed the trembling in my legs because he wrapped his arms around my body, holding me tightly against him while starting to buck his hips upwards to push into me. He was relentless in his pace, chasing his relief together with me. The room was filled with a mixture of our moans and the filthy sounds coming from where our bodies were joined.
I noticed how his face scrunched up, clearly holding back until I would finish first. Little did he know that seeing him fall apart was just what I needed to reach my own breaking point.
“Do it,” I sighed.
He looked at me in confusion.
“Do it!” I repeated. “Come inside me.”
Although his pupils were already blown to the rim, I could have sworn that they dilated a little more when he heard my words. When I felt his cock throb inside me, my walls started pulsating as well, entering a state of pure bliss together with him. He buried his face into the crook of my neck and started trembling underneath me, filling me with his warmth while I took over the movements once more until the last wave of pleasure simmered down.
Both of our bodies were covered in a layer of sweat, our chests pressed together as we panted into each other’s skins. His palms glided over my back in soothing circles while my fingertips intertwined with the curls in the nape of his neck.
With the back of his hand, Spencer wiped the sweat from his forehead. “I think now it’s my turn for a cold shower.”
I placed a soft kiss on his mouth and whispered against his lips, “Would you mind if I joined you?”
He smiled into our kiss before helping me get up from his lap. “Not at all.”
His eyes glanced down at my body when I stood in front of him.
“I think, I wouldn’t mind if your landlord took his time to fix the A/C,” Spencer chuckled.
“Yeah? Me neither.”

Would You Go with Me?
rk900 x goth!reader
nines invites you to a work party
warnings: general bullying (gavin), joking talks of suicide, but mostly fluff i promise, she/her pronouns used, misogynistic comments, lowkey size kink (nines just likes lifting u)
A/N: loosely inspired by the song "would you go with me?" by josh turner (shoutout my cowgoths), as always reader is bipoc coded
Tumblr media
nines might actually kill himself.
he would prefer to be disasembled and put back together 24 times than to be his current predicament of this spot at the end of a booth in a dingy, run down bar. the other table members consisted of chris, hank, connor and his coin tricks, and gavin... being gavin.
"who does assigned seating at a fucking bar?" gavin whined for the upteenth time. nines didn't move in his spot aside from an eyeroll, well aquatinted with gavin's annoyances; hank however wasn't so easily placated.
taking the pitcher off the table to pour himself another glass- his third this early in the evening; hank scoffeed, "maybe if you weren't such a dick to androids fowler wouldn't have to sit you with 'em like a fuckin kindergardener."
nines ignored the rest of their bickering having his own conversation with connor. nines was getting a handle on his own sense of humour and although the stoic delivery made most people unaware he was telling a joke, connor understood him. leading to connor trying and failing not to laugh at nines creative insults regarding gavin.
gavin' abruptly cut through their conversation with a high pitched whistle. "who invited dracula barbie?"
all heads turned at the door of the bar, opened under the dim light by a woman in all black, lace, and platform boots. she stayed by the door looking through the crowd curiously, waiting.
chris let out a low whistle as well, followed by gavin's chuckle. "what i'd give for a piece of that," connor stilled in place in his spot besides hank watching nines carefully. "you know those goth girls are such fucking freaks in bed."
connor stepped in before his sucessor had a chance to speak; seemingly the only one to notice nine's led was solid red. his unspoken message to nines telling him to go get you so as not to leave you alone.
"gavin i don't believe women actually enjoy being spoken to or about like that." connor started as nines stood up, his palms leaving a dent in the diner's table. "i'd especially avoid such vulgarity around nines. at least if you value your life, detective."
"are you fucking threatening- what?" gavin's rant was cut off by chris nudging him hard as he nodded to the door. "what are you-"
hank turned in his seat as well, all three mens jaws dropping at the sight of nines leaning down to press a chaste kiss to the aforemention woman's temple as they stood by the entrance.
connor smiled and you waved from your spot in nines arms before turning back to your android boyfriend.
"sorry i'm late love," you giggles as nines tightened his hug to lift you off the floor, "the zipper on my boots broke."
he kissed you, soft, slow, and sweet. he wanted nothing more than to spend the night feeling your weight against him- on him, kissing you. he loathed the mandatory work party for taking up time he could be spending alone with you but at least you were here.
nines set you back down on your feet after a moment, arms still around your waist as yours laid on his shoulders; nines being too tall for you to properly wrap them around his neck even in platforms. "i don't care," he said "that you were late. i am sorry about your shoes."
you snorted. despite his cold and brooding appearence he was one of the sweetest people you've ever met. you loved so much.
you ran your black nails down his arms in a way you knew he found comforting. nines was never the social type, even after becoming deviant. he was naturally an introvert and you could tell he would rather be anywhere than an office mixer with drunk coworkers.
you stood on your toes and with the assistant of your platforms pressed a quick kiss to his waiting lips, "let's get back to your table, yeah? sooner we sit this out sooner we can leave."
nines only hummed as he craddled your face in his hands as if you were something precious; and to him you were. he kissed you as you were his fragile, his pefectly imperfect human.
you pulled back from the kiss chuckling at his pout. you were the only one he allowed to see him like this. he rarely acted like this in public, even with his back to the bar, so you new he must be suffering through this event.
"c'mon big guy." you said, taking his hands as you had to practically drag him back to connor's table. "we stay for an hour, go home, and i'll let you choose what we watch tonight. deal?" nines only response being a slight nod, had you sated.
approaching the table you waved again, greeting connor briefly. you had met on a few occasions with connor being nine's friend, even if nines would never admit it.
gavin interuppted your greetings, manspead across the back of the booth, shoving chris closer to the edge of the bench. "sorry tin man, looks like there isn't enough room for the both of you." he pat the spot on the booth directly next to his thigh "you can join me if you'd like though princess.
you only smiled innocently and before he could respond nudged nines to sit taking up residence on his lap. "no worries, we'll make do."
hank couldn't help the snort that left him as gavin fumed.
nines would rather be anywhere but here, but as long as you were right beside him tonight might even be fun.

My name's Bree. How can I help you?💉📒
Tumblr media
Shoutout to @hypocriticaltypwriter for the inspiration!
REF/INFO BELOW CUT 💜💜💜
𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Bree
𝐀𝐠𝐞: 25
𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: Female She/They
𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 5'8
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: ISFJ
Though very shy around others, Bree has a good head on her shoulders and a kind heart. She values the work she does, making sure to help others as best as she can. Not only does she care about her patients, but she also likes to help out her friends and coworkers. Being useful for a greater good is something truly valuable to her, though it can sometimes get the better of her.
Bree struggles quite a bit with stress. She tries to push herself to a point where burnout is inevitable. All she wants is to be helpful, but it can cause her to feel tired and depressed after the long days of work. She feels guilty about the idea of leaving her field of work, as so many patients count on her care. It makes her feel a bit stuck and frustrated. Her biggest dream in life is to become a writer, becoming the next Bram Stoker or Mary Shelley.
She’s fascinated with romance and monsters, inspired to bring such two complex things together. During her free time, she enjoys writing down short stories that she hopes to get published some day.
Bree is used to blending into the background, not really one to get attention from boys in her teenage years. However, she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, and others are starting to notice her more. Since she’s not used to such affection and attention, it makes her quite bashful~
𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Bree is often in her work uniform. As a nurse, she wears a light blue work dress with a white collar, cuffs and belt. Outside of work, she prefers to wear more soft and loose clothing. Usually she wears fun sweatshirts and stretchy jeans with converse sneakers. A special accessory she wears every day is her silver key necklace. It has an amethyst gemstone in the center.
Her skin is quite pale, as she has to stay out of the sun, lest she want a nasty sunburn. She’s got a dusting of freckles on her face. Her makeup is plain, often just mascara and chapstick. She can’t do a full face of makeup every day, as it would just end up on her face mask whenever she puts it on.
Bree is more chubby in her features, making her insecure compared to the thin, toned bodies she sees on the Santa Carla boardwalk. However, she’s got several beautiful features and a shapely body. Her hair is flowing and thick with brunette color. She’s got some natural highlights from the rays of the sunshine. She often hides behind her long hair, sometimes too shy to show her face.
𝐉𝐨𝐛: She’s a nurse at Santa Carla Medical Clinic. She works night shifts, as nobody else wants them. Bree is a natural night owl, so it ends up working in her favor. Most of her job is front desk admin work, but she also provides checkups and vaccinations/blood draws when need be.
𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬:
B (Michael, Sam, coworkers)
My dear, Darling, Beautiful, Sweetling (David)
Baby, Babygirl, Little lady (Dwayne)
Mama, Sugar, Pretty girl (Paul)
Bella, Bellisima, Angel (Marko)
Babe, Baby (Michael)
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞?: Bree is in your typical multi-roommate-in-small-apartment setup. She moved out to California with her friends so she could start fresh, and was able to get set up in the basement of the condo they found. Her roommates are usually asleep whenever she’s awake due to their different work hours, which she doesn’t mind. She finds peace in the night time, though she does tend to get lonely.
Though their home doesn’t have a lot of space, Bree has worked hard to make it cozy. It’s not far from the boardwalk, meaning a lot of shops are within walking distance.
𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:
Bree has always been a bit of odd girl. Growing up, she found herself in the school library quite a bit. She was too shy to talk to other kids, and was afraid of bullies that would pick on her for being extra sensitive (not to mention they were quite unkind to her and her chubby features). She would often switch back and forth between romance novels and scary stories, finding equal interest in love and darkness. The two began to blend together, and she became attracted to the monsters that were supposed to frighten her. She found sympathy in these creatures, as she knew what it was like to feel isolated and tormented for simply being different.
A passion for writing her own stories was born, and every chance she got, she would eagerly write down stories of these monsters in her journal. Ones where they would get happy ending rather than tragic downfalls. It fueled her dream of becoming a writer someday, and even when she pursued a career in the medical field, she never forgot her true passion.
She became a bit more confident in herself when she got older, and ended up making close friends. They were very supportive of her work, and were there for her when her mother got sick. When she finished school and got her degree, Bree found out her friends had their sights set on California. The complete opposite side of the country. She was scared of such a massive change, but her family encouraged it, as she would have more opportunities for her writing to get noticed in such an environment. Touched by their support, Bree took the jump and moved cross-country with her friends.
Until she can fulfill her writing dream, she’s working hard as a nurse. Not only does she provide for herself, but for her beloved chocolate labrador as well.
𝐂𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡: She’s torn at the moment. On the one hand, she is infatuated with Michael. He’s kind and gentle and very responsible. She admires the dedication he has to his family and appreciates his sweet nature keeping her spirits up. On the other hand, she can’t stop thinking about the mysterious pack of biker boys that she sees in her office now and then. There’s something about them that draws her in. Something dark and mysterious. It’s like a siren’s call, and she’s powerless around them.
(She wouldn’t mind a poly relationship, but she does have somewhat of an extra fondness for Dwayne, given how good he is with Laddie)
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡: Bree was able to use her degree to get set up at local primary care doctor’s office. It was there that she so happened to meet Michael Emerson, a handsome guy who decided to pursue physical therapy as a study once he got his GED. He worked part time in between night school, and Bree was completely smitten whenever they had the same shift. He was so doting and kind. A perfect gentleman who never failed to put a smile on her face. Sometimes his mother and little brother would stop by for a checkup or to simply say hello, and Bree found herself adoring them too.
Michael explained to her at one point that he had a devastating breakup with a runaway girl he met during a past summer. He didn’t like to talk about what led to their breakup, but Bree never forced him to tell more. She was simply happy to be there for him, and she had a feeling that he was starting to open his heart up to her in return.
However, he wasn’t the only man in her life.
During quieter nights, Bree started to get visits from four mysterious, yet very sexy bikers. They would ask for a walk-in appointment. A cut here, a sprain there, usual stuff. Normally, the office didn’t take walk-ins, but she was happy to examine them on her own. She suspected something was off about them when she found that their bodies weren’t exactly….normal. The stethoscope she used never could pick up a heartbeat. The blood sample she collected looked sparkly in the light. The thermometer always said their temperature was far below what it should have been.
She was frightened at first…..but soon became intrigued.
They were all so mysterious and unusual. The four of them watched her with hunger in their eyes. They’d coo sweet nothings to her, offering to take her out for a date or a ride on their motorcycles. Ask her back to their place for a drink. The more she got to know them personally, the more tempted she felt to listen to their call. Bree had the same fascination in the boys as she did with the monsters she read about growing up.
Little does she know that her indecision between Michael and the Lost Boys is more akin to a fight between good and evil~

I Will Rescue You
Title and story inspired the song “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle.
Summary: The team solves a case, and Aurora learns to open up.
Warnings: Mentions of kidnapping, gun and knife usage, and attempted suicide (from the perpetrator, not heavily detailed.)
Word Count: 3.4k
A/N: I just want to thank everyone for all the new support recently, it means the world to me that people are reading my story!
I’m so excited for the next upcoming chapters! We will get Bradley soon I promise! The next chapter though, is going to shift the story to what I’ve been waiting for! And probably what everyone else has been waiting for! 🫣Please listen to the song if you can! I love having songs for each chapter. This one definitely has a double meaning, where not only do they rescue someone, but Aurora gets rescued by her found family. 💛
Shoutout to my beta reader, and editor @reginleight!
On that note! Please enjoy the chapter. As always, comments, reblogs, and feedback are appreciated! 🤭

“Okay, what do you have for me?” Gibbs asks.
It was the next day and Aurora had come back to the office, with a clearer mindset, and the determination to crack this case..
Tony, Ziva, McGee, and Aurora were researching anything and everything they could on the petty officer and who would have motive to kill him.
“Girlfriend checks out. She was at a job conference with coworkers able to back up her story,” McGee was the first to reply.
“Same with Lieutenant Seresin,” Aurora follows up. “We were able to eliminate him as a suspect due to the DNA Abby had found under the victim’s fingernails when he was defending himself, as well as on a metal pipe aka the murder weapon. And he was seen by a few officers on board that he was passed out in his bunk.”
“Anyone else, or are you just telling me that we have run out of suspects?” Gibbs sighs, his frustration beginning to show.
“I think I found something,” Tony reports, quickly setting down his phone.
“An ex-girlfriend of the petty officer. Her name is-”
“Emma Reynolds. Made several calls to our petty officer, including the night that he was killed,” Ziva interrupts Tony.
“Made several voicemails threatening him too,” Tony interjects after Ziva interrupted him.
“Why didn’t we find that in our initial search?” Gibbs asks.
“They were erased. We just got the cell phone restored due to the information Abby got.” Ziva shrugs.
“What does she say in the voicemail?” McGee asks.
“Listen for yourself,” Dinozzo replies, putting the voicemail on speaker for the group to listen..
“You will regret ever dumping me. You get to go off and date a new girl while getting the satisfaction of being in a happy relationship? No way! You’re going to pay for what you did. Including whoever told you about me cheating on you!”
“So we have a motive and evidence!” Aurora exclaims.
“Is that enough for a warrant?” McGee quirks a brow in question.
All of a sudden, a phone rings out causing everyone to look toward the source. Aurora.
“Sorry, oh wait, hold on,” Aurora tells them, confused at seeing the caller ID. “It’s Jake.”
“Jake?” Gibbs asks.
“Lieutenant Seresin,” Aurora explains before answering the phone. “Agent Benjamin.”
“Why did you kidnap me?” Jake questions, his voice sounding a bit far away.
“Because you are the only person who knows my identity, and now you’re going to take the blame for Derek’s death!” a female voice yells out.
“NCIS is going to find you, and when they do they’re going to put you in jail” Jake retorts, his voice raising almost matching the woman’s.
“Jake’s been kidnapped by the killer, sounds female,” Aurora examines the call, as she places her phone on speaker. From what she can gather, Jake must have dialed her number so they could find him.
“Fits the ex-girlfriend's motive,” Tony affirms.
“McGee-”
“On it boss,” McGee says, interrupting Gibbs as he starts tracing the phone. While he does that, the team starts gearing up so they could leave as soon as they had the location. Aurora sets the phone down and mutes her side of the call. She makes sure to grab her knife, gun, and badge.
“Alright, got it. Looks like an abandoned house 15 minutes from here.”
“Let’s go!” Gibbs shouts as the team runs out, hoping to save Jake on time and capture the killer.
“David, secure the perimeter. Artemis, you and I will go in from the front. Dinozzo, McGee, side entrance and back got it?”
“Got it boss.” They all reply.
Everyone moved into position, as Aurora adjusted her vest, making sure her gun was loaded. On Gibb’s signal, she kicks down the door to the abandoned house.
“Freeze! NCIS!” she yells out, aiming her gun inside the house.
Jake Seresin was tied up to a chair, eyes a bit glazed over, while a woman holding a gun to his head stood behind him. Remembering the picture and profile she’d seen, Aurora instantly recognized her as the ex-girlfriend, Emma Reynolds.
Aurora’s eyes flashed from when she was tied up and tortured, before the memory could overtake her, she shook it off and fought against it. She had to get Jake safely out of here, she needed to do her job.
Noting Emma’s facial expression, it appeared she did not expect the NCIS team to find her so soon.
“You come any closer, and Lieutenant Seresin here gets a bullet in his brain!” the woman threatens.
“Emma, you don’t want to do that!” Gibbs shouts at her.
“Emma, just put the gun down-” Aurora yells before she is interrupted by Emma.
“NO! I will not go to jail for something that was justified! Derek deserved to die! He got what was coming to him!”
“Emma, calm down. Here I’ll put my gun away, just put yours down too.” Aurora slowly began to holster her gun. Gibbs, standing next to Aurora, kept his gun trained on the woman in case she decides to change her target.
Seeing as she wasn’t going to make a move in doing so just yet, Gibbs spoke up. “Just let Lieutenant Seresin go. He’s an innocent bystander-”
“No, he isn’t! If it wasn’t for him, Derek wouldn’t have broken up with me!”
“You cheated on him with another officer on the ship! He thought it was me! I had to tell him!” Jake yells out to defend himself.
“And y-you were going to take the b-blame for his death,” Emma stamers.
“Emma, it’s over. Put down the gun!” Aurora shouts at the woman. There was a bang, and soon Ziva, McGee, and Tony surrounds her, guns in hand.
Emma grew frustrated. “I’m not going to jail!”
“There is no other way, Emma!” Aurora tells her.
Slowly, Emma removes the gun from Jake’s head.
Aurora sighs in relief until seeing Emma then turn the gun to her own head. Just as she’s about to pull the trigger, Aurora acts quickly, whipping out her knife and expertly throwing it at the gun, knocking it clean from Emma’s hand.
Left defenseless and with no more cards up her sleeve, Ziva takes her down just as Tony retrieves the knocked gun. Gibbs and Aurora let out a breath that they were holding before Aurora helps McGee untie Jake from the chair. She grabs her knife that was left impaled into the wall before kneeling down beside Jake, scanning over his body for any injuries. A small scratch on his cheek, and a small bump on his head, but other than that he seemed unharmed.
“You came,” Jake smiles at Aurora.
“You called,” she replied, smirking at him. She uses her knife to help cut away any remaining rope. McGee then unties the last of the rope leaving Jake no longer bound to the chair. He stands up and sways a little. Aurora quickly puts her knife in her holster and stands to support him before he could fall.
“Ok Hangman, time to get you checked by the paramedics,” she chuckles at Jake’s actions, leading  him outside to where local LEOs and paramedics were on the scene.
Gibbs was talking to a local LEO while Aurora helped Jake sit at the back of the ambulance, with Tony, Ziva, and McGee trailing behind them.
“Thank you. All of you,” Jake says, giving all of them a sincere look of gratitude.
“It’s our job, we’re just glad you’re alright,” Ziva says, speaking for the team. Her eyes just so happen to wander to Aurora, suspecting there might be something going on between the two in front of her.
“I’m really glad you’re okay, Jake,” Aurora smiles.
The paramedics soon come up saying that they will need to bring the lieutenant to the hospital for a check up. Before they could leave, Aurora stopped Jake, giving him a concerned look. “Do you want me to come with you?”
“Nah,” shaking his head, Jake gave her a confident grin. “I’ll just get a quick check up and head to NCIS for a statement. I’ll meet you back at the Navy yard, Mitchell?”
She smiles at hearing her last name.
“See ya in a bit then, Hangman.” Jake waves to all of them as he’s loaded into the back of the ambulance, soon disappearing from sight as they leave. Aurora turns around and sees her team looking at her, confused.
“Mitchell?” Ziva asks, confused.
Aurora sighs. “I’ll explain when we get back to the Navy yard.”
“So, wait. Your last name is actually Mitchell?” McGee asks incredulously, trying to wrap his head around the new information. In fact, the whole team was trying to wrap their heads around this one.
Aurora sat down at her desk in the bullpen, while Tony, Ziva, Abby, McGee, and Palmer stood around her.
“Yep,” Aurora confirms as she puts her hand under her chin, trying to gauge her team’s response and facial expressions.
Tony and McGee looked at each other, before they ran to their desks to pull up information. Aurora and Ziva look at each other and roll their eyes as Abby and Palmer chuckle at their antics. McGee then says he found something and puts it up on the bullpen TV screen. On it, showed her dad’s profile.
“Woah, he’s hot.” Abby acknowledges looking at her dad’s official Navy photo.
“Abby!” Aurora laughs at her outburst. Ziva nods approvingly at Abby’s comment, agreeing with her.
“Wait, I have another one too,” Tony says, as he puts another profile up on the screen right next to her dad’s. It was her brother’s.
“Oh, he’s cute too! How are you related to good looking men, Rory?” Abby asks as Aurora chuckles at her antics, choosing not to answer the rhetorical question.
“Your dad is Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell?!” Tony said, not believing it.
Aurora laughs and nods. “And that’s my brother. You both work fast.”
“Wait? What’s a Maverick?” Ziva asks, confused.
“Not a what, a who. Maverick is his call sign. States here Captain Mitchell is a highly decorated captain, a naval aviator graduated from Top Gun in ‘86,” McGee summarized from the profile he found “Has medals and awards, and currently is the pilot in a secret Mach 10 project, called the Darkstar.”
“Callsign?” Ziva’s brows furrow. “What’s a callsign?”
“A nickname each naval aviator has rather than using their actual name,” Aurora explains.
“And then there’s Chief Petty Officer Peyton Benjamin-Mitchell. He’s a naval aviation mechanic, graduated from the Naval Academy, currently deployed on the USS Franklin, with a stop in Japan,” Tony reads from the profile.
“Well that explains the postcard,” Ziva acknowledges.
“Actually half,” Aurora smirks at Ziva and Abby knowing they’ll be wondering what she meant by that.
“Your dad is a legend!” McGee exclaims. “I’ve heard of the Mitchell name from my dad so many times.”
“The Mitchell Legacy,” Aurora sarcastically mumbles.
“Why didn’t you tell us this before? Why are you telling us now?” Ziva asks.
Aurora takes a deep breath and lets it out.
“I didn’t want you all to treat me differently,” Aurora shrugs. “Take you, for example, Ziva. Everyone connects you to your dad who’s the head director of Mossad. They assume things about you and you’ve had to prove them wrong, as well as step up to your position. I just wanted a clean slate, a way to make my own name and not be connected to the Mitchell name,” she explains.
“But why tell us now?” Abby reiterates Ziva’s last question, standing next to the woman.
Aurora looks at all of them and smiles. “Because it was time to come clean to you all. You are also my family, you have been there for me, and I figured it was time to trust you all to know the rest of me.”
Abby finally bursts, throwing her arms around her friend in a big hug, Ziva joining in as well.
“Wait, then how does Lieutenant Seresin know about your last name?” McGee asks.
“Because I know her brother and her boyfriend,” a voice interrupts and they all turn towards it. Jake Seresin stood there, back from the hospital, smirking at them.
“Wait, boyfriend?!” The team yells out, as Aurora rolls her eyes at Jake.
“Best friend.” Aurora corrects, looking at him. “Glad to see you’re doing better.”
“Well, I guess I have you to thank for that,” he confesses.
“McGee, you should probably bring Lieutenant Seresin to the conference room for his statement? Gibbs is probably waiting for him there,” Tony tells McGee, his tone commandeering. McGee rolled his eyes, but didn’t argue.
“Sure, right this way Lieutenant,” McGee says, leading Jake to the stairs up the conference room.
They all watch Jake and McGee disappear going up the stairs before then turning back to Aurora.
“Ok, talk to us about this best friend/boyfriend of yours!” Abby exclaims, excitedly.
“And your brother!” Ziva insists.
Aurora groans but then proceeds to tell them all about Bradley and Peyton.
—
“So, you’re heading out?” Aurora asks Jake. He had just come back down after having to give his statement on the case and went straight to joining Aurora at her desk.
“Yep, the USS Seahawk is bound for departure in a few hours,” Jake replies, as he takes a look at the picture she had pinned on a corkboard behind her.
After she came clean to her team, she started putting pictures of her family that she had hid away in her desk drawer, including the postcard from Bradley and Peyron.
“Wow, what a way to spend time off the ship. Kidnapped, spending most of the time in the Navy Yard,” Aurora sarcastically replies to him.
“I still can’t believe she hid in your car that you were borrowing, hit you on the head, drove the car with you in it, and then dragged you into that abandoned house And you STILL didn’t wake up until she tightened the rope,” Aurora looks at Jake in disbelief.
“Hey, she had a strong arm, and upper body strength!” Jake remarks, tearing his gaze away from the corkboard.
“It’s a good thing she was so focused on kidnapping you, she forgot to take your phone away.”
“I’m just glad your number was the one I pressed, and not like your brother’s,” Jake cringes at the thought.
Aurora nods, because Peyton wouldn’t answer since he’s at sea.
Deep down, she was sad he was leaving. She had really bonded with Jake, and he was one of the reasons why she started opening up to her team.
“At least I finally got to meet THE Artemis. Everyone is going to be so jealous,” Jake teases.
Aurora laughs and smiles at him. “Be safe? I know how you flyboys get when you’re in those fighter jets,” she sassily remarks at him.
“Always am safe,” he winks at her.
She shakes her head. “And, please don’t give Bradley a hard time when you see him. I know you two butt heads a lot of times,” she advises.
“Well, he starts it,” he protests, making her chuckle at his remark.
“And you and Peyton? I won’t say anything.” She winks.
Jake rolls his eyes, looking away. “Nothing is even there.”
“Yet.”
“You be safe too Mitchell,” changing the subject, Jake returns his gaze to her. “Still can’t believe you brought a knife to a gunfight.”
“Hey, that knife saved your life!” They both chuckle. Jake turns to the rest of the team to give them a goodbye and thanks as well. Aurora stands up after he says his last goodbye to Tony, who also weirdly he had bonded with as well.
“Let me walk you to the elevators,” Aurora volunteers. Without any protest from him, they walk to the elevator as Jake hits the button to go down.
“Call me sometime,” Jake tells her as they stand waiting for the elevator.
She chuckles and shakes her head. “Here we go again with the flirting.”
“Hey, what are friends for?” Jake jokes. Once the elevator doors open and Jake’s inside, he gives Aurora one final wave goodbye.
“See you next time, Artemis.”
“See ya around, Hangman.”
“You heading home yet Arty-choke?” Dinozzo asks Aurora, as the team starts packing up for the day.
“That was the worst nickname you’ve ever made up, DiNaggy,” Aurora retorts looking up from what she was writing.
“Hey, I give my best with what’s been given! And DiNaggy isn’t your best either.”
“It is, you nag me a lot. But I am still partial to DiNutsos.”
Tony sticks his tongue out at her in retaliation.
“I still can’t believe your brother’s nickname is Apollo, when we gave you Artemis. What are the odds of that happening?” McGee ponders.
“I still can’t believe you came from a Naval aviation legacy, and still went into a career Navy adjacent,” Tony marvels at Aurora’s background.
“And I still can’t believe you all are still here,” Gibbs snaps as he looks up from his paperwork that he was finishing. “Do you need me to assign more work?”
“Nope!” “No thanks!” Tony and McGee reply, grabbing their bags and saying their goodbyes to everyone before heading out for the elevators..
Shaking her head, Aurora went back to writing, noticing out of the corner of her eye when Ziva approached her desk.
“Hey, wanna go to the bar with Abby and I? I’ll buy the first round,” Ziva offers, trying to convince her friend to go out with them.
“Yeah, can I actually meet you both there? I’m just going to finish up something and make a quick phone call real quick. I can’t stay out too long though. I want to get home to my puppy,” Aurora replies.
Ziva chuckles. “Yeah, sounds good. See you in a bit!” She walks out, headed to the elevators as Aurora goes back to her writing.
A few minutes pass by as she folds the paper, and puts it in an envelope. As she’s about to write on the envelope, she sees Gibbs turn off his desk light, a signal that he’s heading home.
Gibbs stands and turns to Aurora. “You doing alright, kiddo? You did good today.”
She smiles at Gibbs. “I’m doing a lot better, Gibbs. Thank you for today, last night, and for all the days that I’ve been on this team,” she tells him.
Gibbs chuckles, and kisses the top of her head, a fatherly gesture. “We’re always here for you, Artemis. Go home soon, alright?”
“Yes’sir,” Aurora says, giving a mock salute as Gibbs shakes his head before heading out.
Sighing, she puts a hand to her head. No panic attacks today, for that Aurora was grateful. She knew she was going to have to take it a few days at a time. She was going to schedule a therapist that was recommended to her by McGee and she was going to be alright.
Coming out of her thoughts, Aurora went back to the envelope, putting the name and address on it before slipping it into her bag. She was going to mail it out in the morning. Peyton and Bradley would get it hopefully at a speedy pace. She then turns her chair and sees her corkboard, not as bare anymore.
Pictures of her family, Bradley, Goose, Carole, Ice and Sarah were now displayed proudly. She takes a photo into her hands, holding it as if it would help the memory come back to life.  The last picture she had of the trio, taken by her Uncle Goose at the graduation party. Aurora in the middle laughing while Peyton made a funny face and Bradley smiling down at Aurora. The one time she can remember being happy.
She smiles as she puts the photo next to a photo of the NCIS team during one Thanksgiving she had spent with them when she wasn’t able to go home to San Diego that year. She leans back into her chair, biting the inside of her cheek.
Aurora was nervous for this phone call, but she knew it was something she needed to do sooner rather than later. She grabs her phone off her desk and clicks on the number that she had called a few times. Putting the phone to her ear, she waits and listens to the phone ring  until she hears the person answer on the other end.
“Hello?”
Aurora’s eyes started to water at hearing his voice, a voice she had missed and wished she had called more often. She took a deep breath, nervous to come clean to him about everything, her panic attacks, her PTSD. Aurora was scared of his reaction because she knew all he wanted was to protect her. But she was ready to tell him, no more hiding.
“Hi dad.”

Who are the artists that you love on here?
I want you to know this is the narrowed down list:
General artists:
@doekis (has a lot of soft 80s inspired cartoon art (think carebears, classic mlp, etc.)) their works are like cotton candy on silk canvas to the eyes, they’re so so SO pretty and cute.
@nicktoonsunite (aka izbubbles) the expansion to the nicktoons cinematic universe I didn’t know I needed but now that I have it, I am in love with it.
@graskip pretty use of colors and visual textures, a very maximalist use of short hand indicators on simple silhouettes that elegantly balance each other out. Their work is the closest thing to touching grass if that makes sense.
@ferretrix I forgot why I followed them and then scrolled down, and oh my goodness their comics? Their colors??? Their sketchy thick lines that make me wanna go feral???? Good stuff, check them out
@mutiniir followed for the epithet erased fan characters, stayed for the shoes with gun heels. They are incredibly talented, and have a fun and fantastic writing style.
@speyerboot everything cute, colorful, and just Shaped ™️ their works are super fun, they made that one epithet erased avatar maker (I can’t for the life of me remember the site rn), really good stuff!
@yamujiburo I don’t think they require a shoutout from me, but they’re a storyboard artist and director on Big City Greens, they make a lot of cute shipping art of Jessie and Ash’s mom which is both wholesome and hilarious, and I just think they’re neat :)
@k-eke animations right? But they’re animals. And they’re done on the FLIPNOTE APP ON THE NINTENDO DSI. Howwwwww??????? They’re fantastic with expressions, weight, and follow through in technical terms, and have a very funny sense of humor with their works.
@amberluvsbugs an old coworker, has The Most Talent, is currently working with Mob Entertainment, they know a lot about moths and have this elegant, whispy style to their work that the rococo period could only DREAM of replicating.
I Found During My Nuzlocke Phase:
@pettyartist I think they made the first comic I ever read in highschool, and while they don’t do it anymore I still keep up with their works.
@protocol00 was also one of the first comics I read, their artstyle changed dramatically overtime for the better, they’ve had a lot of improvement over the years! They don’t post as often any more so it’s like a delicious morsel when they do.
@kynimdraws was the reason I started to get into digital art in the first place. I followed their black and white comics intensely, and I appreciate that they wrote N like the freak he is ❤️

What gave you the idea / inspired you to create the Steve x Katya ship? 👀 Also, can people write headcanons about them?
It all started with me day dreaming about Raine and Eda getting married and I wanted to draw their wedding reception (a drawing which I never finished LOL) and I started thinking about where all the characters would go. The Clawthorne family, Darius and Eber, huntlow, gustholomule, Camila and Vee, lumity and the twins, etc. Then as I was thinking about where to put the CATs I thought teehee wouldn’t it be fun to draw Steve and Katya dancing together! They are technically coworkers now so they know each other!
Then the insanity set in.
Also YES OF COURSE anybody can make or draw or write anything they want about them! I don’t have a copyright lmao you can go nuts! Feel free to tag me if you want to make sure I see it, I also check the stevatya hashtag most days so that works too :)
Here are the ancient texts that I screenshot a while ago for posterity btw. Shoutout to my lovely mutual @aydaines you were the first to witness this madness unfold 😁✌️

I can absolutely tell you about my soaps! I'm horribly accident prone, so mine are all of the melt and pour variety, so I have the personal rule that any scent made has to be of my own personal make.
So, all of the scents used in my soaps are blends that I made myself in small batches. Everything's inspired either by my own D&D characters, or pop culture in general. I have a pair of soaps inspired by the Game Grumps, one inspired by Elden Ring, and one inspired by Moon Knight, among others.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite, since I love all of them, but my top two favorites are one called The Huntress, and the Moon Knight one called Avatar of Khonshu. They're shaped like a star and moon respectively. Huntress is dark blue and features seaweed based biodegradable glitter, and is a smoky, rosy, sweet scent. Avatar of Khonshu is a solid gold color, and is incense-y and leathery, just yummy.
I also make lip balms that are coconut free, hand knit spa washcloths, crocheted dice bags, and bath salts for soaking. (The bath salts are Avatar: The Last Airbender inspired, and the scent is called Leaves From the Vine because I'm a demon like that. It features actual organic tea leaves and biodegradable seaweed based glitter.)
In addition to the soap thing, I also make jewelry with spent bullet casings (I get them from my partner's coworker when he goes to the shooting range), I knit, I crochet, I sew, and I even bake a little. I've got hobbies on hobbies, lmao. Don't get me started on the doll collecting.
What about you?

OKAY FIRST OF ALLLLLLLL - HELL TO THE YES ON SOAP. THEN ALSO MASSIVE SHOUTOUT TO BEING ACCIDENT PRONE.
I love crafty friendos! I checked out your Etsy Shop and everything is hella cute! [I will be placing an order btw!] I also love the themes you use! The colours and the names are just presh, and then the jewelry????? You're so darn talented - thank you for sharing!
[it's pulling the Canadian Etsy site bc I am in Canada]
My hobbies? Well, I do my own nails.
It started as a way to lower my monthly maintenance costs (as Mr. Beefcal so lovingly put it), and during the pandemic, I was the only one with my nails done. I have an office with a whole nail station and depending on the week, the colour can range from neon to nude. I only do my own (I'm not certified and will only risk damaging my nail beds thank you!), but it's a weekly activity where I enjoy an hour or two on my own.
Tumblr media
I prefer the accent nails on the ring finger and thumb (as you can probably tell!), and despite me no longer going to the nail salon, I have accumulated a vast collection of nail polish, gels, nail tools, various nail builder supplies...
As for doll collecting? Baby, you and me are the same!
Yours in sin,
Beefro👌🥩💜

I might get into the fine arts, my inspiration is striking. I just feel so many emotions sometimes, maybe expressionism and something about life under the spotlight… It’s difficult trying to stay so humble and something about my coworkers is they don’t understand it sometimes. One like and I’ll pursue my hobby and post results. Two likes and I’ll give you a shoutout. Three likes and I’ll post the same picture but in different filters (Paris, noir, etc)
