One thing I love about Horimiya is that it never explicitly mentions anything, but we know. Miyamura as a middle schooler was bullied to the extent of him causing himself self harm by piercing his ears. He never says it but we know through Shindou’s relieved looks, through Hori crying when Miyamura wants to repierce his ears. She begs him never to do it again. You know then that they talked about it or at least Hori put two and two together.

Sawada is attached to Miyamura because she lost her brother just the year prior to her meeting the cast. We have no idea how it happened, but we can assume it wasn’t a physical illness.

The manga talks about issues as they are in real life, which really is that most of the time we never talk about them. And people grow closer because they can read in between the lines. It’s the painful things no one wants to talk about because they want to move forward or because the pain is too great.

In class yuki is reading a a boy love manga when hori comes up and asks what she's reading and they start reading It to together. It gets to a scene where the boys are in the bedroom eating cake together and licking frosting of each other fingers and lips and eventually have hot passionate sex.

Hori goes home and has a nightmare or miyamura and shindo as the boy love characters.

She hit miyamura as soon as she sees him in the morning and says "im getting you a chastity belt to wear around shindo!"

Miyamura was very confused and walked hand in hand with his very angry girlfriend.

and yeah, usually people do, but you’re dead tired on your feet and just want to go home so you can conk out. but here’s some wanker buying some overrated book written by whatever ever dead white guy from the 1800s acting like it’s god’s literally gift to earth

and shindo doesn’t miss the scoff that passes through your lips when you see the title, and he’s in a little mood of his own (when isn’t he?) as he presses you for what you mean by it.

and then all the customers in the store are siding eyeing the two of you as y’all go head to head about books and classics, and you’re pretty proud of yourself for the through dragging you just gave this ass hole. which is why you’re kinda surprised he comes back the next week, having read your recommendation, and is asking for another.

a tentative friendship forms, you suggesting titles and him coming in sporadically to give you his thoughts, a smirk always on his lips when the two of you argue over plot points.

it’s not until you run into him on his patrol that you realize your little customer crush is a fucking pro hero?? when the hell did that happen, and shit, is he trying to discuss books right now??

I’M SCREAMING!

I absolutely adore the idea of him actually being in to books? And just the thought of sitting in comfortable silence with him and reading together has my entire heart? Like your legs slung over his lap or either side of the couch while one of his hands strokes your calf or foot while he reads🥺

But also him coming in and giving us recommendations and we do the same? Like a cute little bookclub just for us?😭

But also him being smarmy enough to corner us in one of the quieter aisles and slip his hand down our pants or beneath our skirt while we tell him to stop, that people can see— and he’s just like “I dunno who you think you’re fooling, I know you ain’t sold a single book in this aisle since the 90s sweetheart.”
