In this picture, I used slightly muted colors, darker than the original version. Kagami is now with light makeup, which makes her a little older.

Kouji Kagami - age 17 years. This girl is the daughter of Ibuki Kouji and his wife Hotaru. But the woman left him with her daughter having fled abroad. Kagami has a calm character, the girl is intelligent, and always cold. She is the oldest of all idols in her group "Moon Sirens". The girl takes good care of her colleagues and always supports them.

Mitsukari Shiho - age of 16 years. Shiho is an average participant of the group "Moon Sirens". She is a kind but very touchy girl. Often offended by Lita, but well relates to Kagami. Shiho respectfully calls her "Sempai."

To be fair to Vanguard, the show USED TO use technology and magic to show the monsters fighting. There are the VF Gloves/Motion Figure System throughout the original series, the Reverse floating tables in Link Joker, the Quatre Knights fight fields in Legion Mate and later GIRS during Vanguard G, and finally the climax of Stride Gate has the monsters manifest in the real world.

Oh right, I just remember them adoring those fucking tables so it kinda ghosted on me all the non-table versions. My defeat on this point.

But this kind of proves my point.

Vanguard was a kid's show, and it followed kid conventions for the same usual reasons, it's for kids to go Poggers at big kewl monsters. And for more adult shows, the fans are just grown up kid as are most adults.

But it's basically industry standard for card game anime.

Yu-Gi-Oh! does it. Duel Masters does it. Cardfight!! Vanguard does it. Future Card Buddyfight did it. Battle Spirits does it. Wixoss sorta did it. Shadowverse does it.

overDress doesn't have a holographic system (yet, and wouldn't be shocked if Deluxe had one), but it's made up by Kinema Citrus' amazing battle work. But it's an exception.

And keep in mind overDress has been basically relegated to a very small viewership and narrow focus.

Not done thinking about card game animes yet. I think it’s obvious at this point, and I hope that bushiroad can see it. Having Yu-yu come out as trans is one of the best marketing decisions they could make. Think about it. Transfemmes play a lot of trading card games (not sure why that’s a thing, but it is. I am a part of it.) right now, the most popularly memes game to find transfemmes playing is MTG. But… that would most likely change, if a major tcg revealed that not only a major character, but a main character was canonically trans. Remember Bridget? Of course you do. Everyone remembers Bridget. Because her coming out made a major splash, and made her become arguably the most recognizable character in guilty gear, if not fighting games as a whole. I mean. It’s brisket. It’s budget, basket, bridges. This is the girl who became a trans icon on par with Blahaj, and I think Yu-yu could do the same. Think about it. People loved when Bridget came out, a slightly transphobic character archetype being revealed to have been an actual trans girl the whole time. And that’s exactly what Yu-yu would be. Not only that, Yu-yu’s transition would be of a very rare type, one I don’t think I’ve ever seen (outside of Bridget) where a character is introduced as one gender and then transitions after their initial story and comes back as an awesome trans person. It would be such an interesting type of representation. And representation matters. Representation sells. Think about it. What’ll happen if Yu-yu is canonized as trans? Step 1: the queer fan base (a major part of the CFV fandom considering. Y’know. Everything.) rejoices= major free marketing push. The transphobes (*cough* r/cardfightvanguard *cough*) complain, and get ratioed= free marketing. New trans girls enter the franchise because they’re interested in this popular franchise having a canon trans character (sadly still a rarity) and start watching the show and buying cards= profits go through the roof (and Nirvana prices skyrocket on the secondary market). Not having Yu-yu be trans would not just be a disservice to the character, it would be plane bad business. And… I don’t know. I’m scared to hope too hard, but I genuinely think Bushiroad might do the right thing here. At least… I really hope they do.

What's the worst card game anime you've ever seen?

Build Divide -#FFFFFF (Code White)- for just being a bumbling mess that pantsed itself repeatedly and had no idea what it wanted to be. Its prequel was god awful at explaining its rules. But was at least a better story.

Cardfight!! Vanguard, especially its first four seasons. Badly written uncoordinated nonsense that had no good sense of pacing, the game is un-telegenic as hell, and the only reason the game got off the ground was the ill will Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL had on launch.
