You know, with Shein, Alibaba and Temu being so popular, I was thinking that maybe we could make a list of some ethical and sustainable clothing brands. These will be more expensive, but if you buy from them you'll be helping someone anytime you make a purchase. Please list all the ones you know in a reply.
Pact Clothing sizes up to 2X. Sells men, women, and children's clothing. Items are sustainably made and Fair Trade.
Midnight Hour Sizes up to 4X with a few 5X items. Cute goth and alternative clothing. Items are sustainably and ethically made.
Able Sustainably and ethically made women's clothing. Sizes up to 3X.
Svaha Own by an Indian woman. Very cute science themed clothing for men, women, and kids. Clothing is mostly made in India and is ethically sourced. Sizes go up to 5XL
Proclaim ethically sourced bras and underwear and basics that comes in three shades of "nude". Sizes S to 3XL
Toad&Co Clothing inspired by nature. sizes S to 2XL.
Raven and Lily Supports female artisans creating handmade jewelry, bags, and homewares. Empowers communities through fair wages.
Altar Specializes in alternative and custom fashion. Sizes S to 6XL.
EDIT: I did not expect the to blow up! I want to find all the suggestions in the reblog and add them to the OP. I'm a bit swamped with work this week though. I may make a whole new post later. In the mean time, please check the notes for some other excellent suggestions! Some are here on tumblr! Shout out to
@freshhotflavors @morningwitchy @crowlines @mayakern
@mayakern has posted images of her clothes in the notes and they are all very cute!
I want to stress that you can't do everything. This post isn't here to judge anyone who needs new clothes but can't afford an ethical brand. I once had my apartment flood (basement unit!) where the ceiling fell in the bedroom and had to replace everything! Clothing that fit me is hard to find and I think I bought everything from Walmart. This is just for some suggestions and to advertise these other brands.

Major fast-fashion retailer Shein plans a factory in Mexico
Shein, the online clothing聽retailer聽giant, is considering building a factory in Mexico as a manufacturing hub outside of China.
The factory will produce聽Shein products聽and is part of the retailer's initiative to localize production. For Shein customers in Latin America, this could result in faster shipping and lower distribution costs. It comes after the company declared that a manufacturing hub would be established in Brazil to serve a global customer base.
Shein was established in China, where it continues to produce the majority of its products, though it is currently looking to grow. With its $10 dresses and $5 tops, the company has driven out other low-cost fashion retailers from the market.
Tumblr media
Shein, which has its current headquarters in Singapore, competes with PDD Holdings' Temu, which offers low-cost goods from China, including clothing and electronics, for sale in the United States.
According to the sources, who asked for anonymity because the discussions are private, a final location for the Mexico site has not yet been chosen.
Shein will use the $2 billion it recently raised in capital from investors such as Mubadala and Sequoia China to fund the expansion as it prepares for an IPO in the United States. One of the sources added that the retailer still reports annual revenue growth of 40% despite a valuation reduction to $66 billion in its most recent funding round.
Recently, Shein provided a platform for an online market place in Brazil, enabling independent vendors to sell their own products on the Shein app and website. Then, before going global, a similar marketplace would be introduced in the United States.
Items from independent vendors won't be kept in the upcoming Mexico factory, according to sources. Shein is considering expanding its marketplace model to other markets across Latin America.

Beating Shein
In price, quality, and spiritually, with a tire iron
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some crappy Shein jeans and their prices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are my newest visibly mended jeans
Here鈥檚 what they cost to make
LL Bean flannel lined jeans: $3.00, half off at goodwill (I know, lucky find)
Denim Patches: $0.00 taken from a much loved and mended pair of jeans that finally gave up the ghost after many years of loyal service.
Flannel patch to mend a hole in the lining: $0.00 from a lot of free scrap fabric my mom found for me in a buy nothing group.
Sewing supplies: $0.00 inherited/stolen from various female family members
Total: $3.00
Beating shein at:
Cheapness
Quality
Appearance (in my opinion)
Probably comfort
Not doing slavery :)
There鈥檚 a narrative that sustainable or ethical fashion is more expensive, and often this is true. But there are affordable ways to have a cool sustainable wardrobe.
To leave you: here are some process shots of how the mending was done, in case it helps someone else.

I wasn't going to post about this but the recent headlines changed my mind. A couple of weeks ago someone linked me this design and asked if it was mine. It's not. I don't work with Romwe (owned by Shein). However, their shirt is a blatant knockoff of one of my designs that I've had for sale for 3 years now. I'm not sure what I'll do about this situation yet. Fyi, my official merch is always linked in my profile (and sometime soon I should have a bunch of new designs, including a series of significantly improved cherry blossom designs)

Remember to avoid fast fashion! Wear the clothes you like, style them in different ways, and make your own fashion choices! We don't need websites and companies like Shein that profit off of the abuse of workers. Thrift and shop locally if you need. Learning how to sew is a rewarding hobby and will allow you to make your own unique accessories as well!

I hate modern shopping
I hate how we are practically forced to buy clothes online now. I want to hold it in my hands. I hate how cheap on low quality clothes are today. I hate that production rates and profit come before people's wellbeing.
I hate Shein for brainwashing us into thinking a shirt should cost less than $5 when it's been clear for a while that their products are usually chock full of lead and new allegations say Shein is using actual slave labor
I hate Temu for bringing expected prices even lower and selling negative ion (which might protect you from 5G but certainly doesn't help on the radioactive front) items. For selling cheap garbage and trying to tell us they're a company.
I hate Shein and Temu for basically forcing underage influencers to take sponsorships so they can get out of bad financial situation.
I hate Amazon, but not their workers
I hate Etsy, but not their shop owners
I hate modern shopping. I'm tired of the labor violations. I'm tired of the bs and the hoops you have to jump through to find a company that doesn't use child labor.
I hate that pay is bad enough that people are forced to work for people like Shein, Temu, Amazon, etc.
I hate that we aren't paid enough to buy even mediocre quality products. I hate that about ~19 people for every 10,000 in America is homeless and 40% of homeless people have jobs. I hate that we are considered entitled when all we want is an apartment and to maybe be treated like human beings at work.
Anyway here's my personal good but expensive recommendation:
Sheep Inc clothing will last decades at least. They have a repair service which you can use for life.
This isn't a paid ad I just like their business model
Btw, don't even get me started on Nestle
