Biology in Evangelion: Angel blood is blue, so why is Tabris’ red? - A theory
To start this off:
This is about the original series + EoE, so any Lore or Explanations added or changed by the rebuilds is not acknowledged.
This heavily relies on my interpretation, which does slightly alter the meanings of certain terms
My knowledge on biology ends at 8th grade so I’m sorry if any of this is painfully wrong / explained very poorly.
I have never had any training when it comes to writing in english so this is all over the place and has many grammar errors
Introduction
The other day I thinking about the difference between lilim / human and the seed of Adam. Specifically their blood. Beings of Adam (angels) have blue blood and beings of Lilith (humans/Lilim) have red blood.
Sooo… why does Kaworu / Tabris have red blood? We know he has red blood because of his eyes (red eyes are when there is no pigment and the light reflects the blood cells), and after unit 1 squishes him and is being cleaned off we see her hand is covered in RED blood. (Like I said earlier this is just about the original series & EoE, but I find it important to note that there is no ignoring the fact that his blood is VERY red in the rebuilds as well)
Tabris is of Adam, shouldn’t his blood be blue? If his blood is red, does that mean he’s less of an Angel? Is he really an Angel at all? I thought about these questions for far too long, and actually got quite frustrated at some points due to what seemed to be inconsistencies, until I realised it all makes sense.
Tabris does not have the biology of an angel, but that doesnt change the fact that he is one. Why is that?
What is an Angel?
Before I get too into it, I want to define what an Angel is in Evangelion. What an angel is, is defined by the characters in the show without knowing the big picture. The definition being the 15 children of Adam are Angels. In my interpretation an Angel is any and every being directly related to Adam. So Lilith isn’t an angel, and its offspring and clones aren’t either. They are Humans / Lilim. As an example following this logic, Evangelion Unit 1 (clone of Lilith) and all Lilim (offspring of Lilith) are not angels, and Adams children (Sachiel, Ramiel, Sandalphon etc) as well as Unit 0 and Unit 2 (clones of Adam) are.
I am very aware that Lilith is referred to as an Angel (specifically as the second Angel), but that is only because, like I said earlier, the characters that defined what an angel is didn’t really have the big picture in mind, nor did they have much information to go off of. Lilith isn’t of Adam, so it doesn’t make sense for it to be called an Angel. The humans found it after finding Adam, so they just assumed they are the same.
About clones
We know clones inherit the biology of their source body, even if the clone itself isn’t a 1to1 copy. So for example Rei is a clone of a Lilim (Yui), so her blood is red. As seen in her eyes and the bandages covering her many many injuries throughout the series are stained red. There’s no denying it, reis blood is red. This makes sense.
And this isn’t just for Humans / Lilim, it also applies to beings of Adam. We see this with unit 2 (a clone of Adam) in her fight with Zeruel and in EoE when she fights the mass produced Evas that her blood is also the lovely shade of blue associated with angels. (Note: To my knowledge we never see unit 0s blood, but if anyone has some scenes from the original series where we do see her bleed, let me know).
The blue blood is not something unique to Unit 2. We never see Adam bleed, however we do see that his offspring (not clones, but still related) do in fact have blue blood. Unit 1s fight with Sachiel in the second episode shows and confirms this best. This is why angels are “Pattern Blue”. It’s for their blue blood type.
Clone "genetics"
(We get a bit more into my personal interpretations here, but bear with me.)
Everything related to Lilith has red blood and everything related to Adam has blue blood.
…Right? Well, not always.
An example of this not always being completely being true is the same example I used earlier. Unit 2. Unit 2 is also related to Lilith.
Yes, she is a clone of Adam, but her soul is from Asuka’s mom, a Lilim. Unit 2 in my opinion is better described as being related to Lilith because of her soul. Who you are is determined by your soul and not necessarily your body.
So, she is related to Lilith and Adam simultaneously. But is better described as of Lilith despite being biologically of Adam.
So Clones biology is determined by the source BODY and not the biology of the original souls host, despite the souls source being better used to describe who / what the person or being is.
Where am I going with this?
Personally I believe that Kaworu is also clone of a Lilim. Which is why he can pass as human, and looks so similar to Rei. Both having red eyes, pale skin, light hair, a thinner body, and looking rather sickly. Now, I do not know if this is canon or not, but if it isn’t ever outright stated it’s pretty heavily implied in my opinion.
Tabris says that Rei is “like him”. And he isn’t referring to the fact he’s an Angel, because Rei isn’t an angel. She has Liliths soul. Lilith isn’t an angel. But she also isn’t really Lilith. Yes, she is the Vessel for its soul but they are still referred to as different beings. Just like how Kaworu is the vessel for Adams soul, but Tabris and Adam are seen as seperate beings, seperate Angels even.
So, he must be referring to the fact that they are both clones of Lilim housing the souls of other beings, Lilith and Adam respectively.
Who Tabris is a clone of is a mystery. I personally like the theory that it’s Dr. Katsuragi (Misatos dad) but in the end it’s irrelevant. What’s relevant is that he is a clone of a Lilim. And like i determined earlier, clones inherit their biology from the source of the body, and not the biology of what originally housed their soul.
In conclusion:
Despite his soul being (of) Adam and being an angel, due to the fact that he is a clone of a Lilim, Tabris’ blood is red, and not Blue.

OC QUESTION!! :D
which kind of stories do your ocs like? (can be any oc) like, how we read books and watch shows, which kind of stories would your ocs like?
OMG HI AZ. HI HI HI HI fuck ok that is a very good question.
oryx because i've been thinking about him lately... he's a doctor, so very analytical and has similar interests to mel (though he LOATHES that fact.) often reads nonfiction, usually factual things like studies of the brain and soul magic. despite being a physical doctor, he reads a LOT about mental disorders & the like. if you asked him what stories he liked, in terms of fictional ones... he'd probably like something like evangelion. he'd definitely watch house md, and find the medical practices funny. though again, humans don't really exist in this era so house md wouldnt.,... like.,......happen . eva either. but like HYPOTHETICALLY. you know.
mel will read anything and everything. stories, anatomical reference books, automotive mechanic books, pre-koboreal invasion literature, fucking give him a 600 page book on cleaning bathroom floor tiles he Will Read It. he wants to KNOW shit. he fucking HATES movies, but because he's a contrarian there are some instances where he'll watch them. he can't sit still long enough to watch entire hour long movies/episodes etc but if you give him something to do while listening in the bg he'll be set for life. he's ME so he'd watch what i watch, mp100, dunmeshi, murder drones (he would LOVE murder drones. ep 4 would make him hungry for oil, which is dangerous because he works as a mechanic on occasion LOL) you could never get him to admit it but he's probably watched twilight. he's a vampire and he LOVES wolves. (i... don't share this trait. i haven't watched twilight. mel would NEVER watch true crime/horror movies. not because he's scared of them or anything similar, because he much prefers when the violence is actually happening in front of him, ESPECIALLY when he's the one doing it. don't forget he is a mass murderer & a cannibal who enjoys violence.
draco is illiterate. she's not stupid, but she, similarly to me, struggles in investing herself in a story unless she really clicks with it/its characters or story. she probably likes MAKING stories more than reading them, honestly... the issue with that though is that she can't write because of her claws. she's too insecure about her own opinions to think too hard about characters & stories and even MORE so to even share them, but maybe at some point she read with magmivit, & they helped her write! you gotta consider she was living away from civilization with nothing & no one but her freak ass of a mom & crazy bitch dad out in the woods, she never had stories, so she really likes them. she'd much rather cozy up and struggle to read a book than go out and do something on her own, unless the "doing something" involved being useful for others. stories that are more blunt & obvious in their delivery but still handle mature themes would be good for her... atla, mlp, guardians of gahoole would be good for her. i think she'd like warrior cats if it didn't make her sad.
TROUT! manga reader. anime watcher. she's kind of a weeb... DEFINITELY WATCHES RWBY & AMPHIBIA & HOMESTUCK my main inspos for her were ruby, marcy & june after all . haha. she watches eva because of oryx, when your weird adoptive cat uncle/past life recommends you a show you HAVE to watch it. she doesn't *read* a lot, she likes picture books & comics more than big walls of text because of how easily she's bored. action movies would be something she likes. she's museful, but likes to shut her brain off sometimes. not very character-analysis-y, prefers when characters are easy to read & relatable.
THJANK UOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING ME THIS I LIOVE QUESTINS ABOUT MY; OCS. *DIES

Umineko AU Ramblings - Genderbent Ushiromiya Family
If You Do Not Like Genderbending, Please Look Away. I'll Try My Best To Avoid Spoilers, But Please Read At Your Own Risk.
Sometimes I think about genderbending Umineko and how fucked up the dynamics would be. For the sake of simplicity and avoiding spoilers for anything during/post Alliance, I'm just looking at the Ushiromiya Family, here.
This is just me rambling here, not a true deep analysis of the characters. There'll probably be lines of thought that go nowhere.
For reasons, Kinzo would remain the same sex. However, everyone from the main family down, wouldn’t be. (Gender, on the other hand, is potentially a different story and an AU of a genderbent AU).
Krauss, Eva, Rudolf, and Rosa would be the opposite sex they are in canon. As would George, Battler, Jessica, Maria, and Ange.
This alone would massively change the family’s dynamics. Considering Kinzo’s misogynistic outlook and the fact that Japan is a primarily patriarchal society - the upbringing of the adult generation as kids, their adolescence and young adulthood, to their marriages and the birth of the cousin’s generation is all made different.
Krauss, as a girl, wouldn’t have the same sense of superiority over the rest of Kinzo’s children as he does in canon. As eldest, sure she’d have some power - but as a girl, in Kinzo’s eyes - and depending on the circumstances, even the family elders who named Kinzo as a puppet head - what use was she as an heiress?
She’d marry out of the family - or in normal cases, should have - to supply the Ushiromiya family with further connection in the upper class’s world of riches and politics.
You know who would actually, in their youth, have the most ‘power’?
Eva.
As a boy, even if Kinzo didn’t care much or pay much attention to his kids, again depending on how involved the elders were - influencing or alternatively abusing their mother with high expectations, because Kinzo had to have learned some prejudices and bias from somewhere, in turn leading to the mother’s strict expectations - Eva would have been raised as heir, not Krauss.
Whereas both Fem! Krauss and Fem! Rudolf would be expected to learn domestic skills and the basics of academics, focus on thought of child rearing and homemaking household management, becoming deft hostesses able to keep keen eyes on connections and silent lips for others but their husbands when requested -
Out of them all, it would be Eva who was expected to carry on the illustrious name of the Ushiromiya’s after Kinzo, have it soar to heights which surpassed that of its former wealth lost to the quakes. For some time, he’d be the only son in a household of three children, a single boy between two daughters.
If not by Kinzo, Eva would have been raised by his mothers - by the elders, potentially - that he was going to be the heir over his sisters, that he would continue the family name and was expected to bring them greatness through his intelligence, something that his sisters could only do in marrying well to wealthy, well-connected men.
While his sisters would be allowed to attend high school, it was Eva who would be afforded a higher education - a proper gentleman’s education. The girls wouldn’t be, had no need to be given such a thing.
Krauss, as a girl, would marry out of the family. So would Rudolf. Eva was going to be the heir, as his mother and the elders said - in this way, they would make the family - make their father - proud.
He was going to the heir.
(Which would really burn when he wasn’t, when Krauss didn’t marry out of the register, when Kinzo, for whatever damned reason, had her spouse marry into the Ushiromiya family rather than his eldest daughter out of it).
(By all means, legally he never even declared a direct heir. It’s assumed at first that it goes to Eva, and then, after Krauss’ marriage and remaining on the register, to the oldest child - strange, but not unheard of).
(I haven’t though much on it, except, perhaps, to say that Kinzo’s reason would be pure spite towards the elders - and then, simply, a lack of caring. What did it matter to him, any of it? The family, the wealth, the prestige…it was his only in name, his body forced to sow the crops the elders got to reap for their own profit).
Like their canon counterparts, though:
It’s not just Eva who is extremely prideful. Both Krauss and Rudolf are prideful, stubborn, as well.
All of the haughty superiority that Krauss throws into being the eldest, being the heir? This gets burned down into a need to prove herself as the perfect young lady, the most desirable, proper bachelorette of the upper echelons of society. The inner economy of running a household, rearing children, being a hostess - that is what she would strive for. But, similar to Eva in canon, I don't think Fem! Krauss would settle for, on several accounts, being deemed lesser than her younger brother.
She'd fight in becoming the most perfect, lovely lady - so that Kinzo and the elders could hold nothing against her, if she wished to achieve further education. What she would look into learning, I'm not sure - but it's still something to at the very least consider, whether she would strive for higher education or not.
(lowkey thinking of Eva and Krauss attending the same university or college, just to potentially get on the other's nerves and show how they are 'that much more' superior to the other).
It wouldn't give much leverage over Eva, no - why would he even deign to give the thought of a girl's know-how time out of his day? an attitude that later bites him in the ass because his only child is a girl - but leverage over Rudolf? Potentially. There, there we have things to look at.
Rudolf, as a lady, is still an incorrigible flirt. Still able to charm the pants off of literally most people - a lady by her sex, and a cougar, a carnivore, otherwise. A smoky mafia lady vibe. Flirtatious and brusque, almost. Her etiquette and the snubbing of it (examples being smoking, a bit rough and lackadaisical in regards to housekeeping and being a hostess).
Different from Krauss and Eva, Rudolf would just barely toe the line of societal propriety of an upper class lady - quite the modern woman. She'd know it all, embroidery and all that - but she'd utilize it like a spider building a web, snakes coiling around prey and paralyzing them with venom. Charming, skilled if a bit lazy at it - and deceptively clever, but deadly.
Something Krauss had reason to chide her on, at least.
A cunning flirt, to make up for Krauss' cutting etiquette and Eva's blindingly superior holier-than-thou everything. Lusting to make up for a lack of love, or affection - which, while I can't say it wasn't there, there likely wasn't much of it in the Ushiromiya Household. Just, pride and expectations and cold limitations put down as law.
That behavior they grew into is comprised of their upbringing, and attempts to - at least in part - fill voids left in them by fair lack of warmth from certain people (elders, parents, you know), and filled only with harsh and high expectations and strict limitations. Which isn't to say that at least their mother didn't care, but I still have to think on that since we get zero information of the Ushiromiya Matriarch.
Rosa would get the short end of the stick, born with a pretty decent age difference between Rudolf, who is the 'baby' of the older siblings - and all of his siblings would have their own issues by this point, learned to weaponize haughtiness and a sharp tongue and intellect and charm and lust as shields and tools.
This poor kid would be so soft, so defenseless, compared to them. Up until the circumstances involving a stuffed animal, the forest, and Maria's mom (in this case). This is me trying to avoid spoilers, because I've been there and it sucked.
I can't really say much about Rosa, here, because I just don't have a good grasp on her character. Like I said, I was spoiled for Umineko just after finishing watching Banquet - and that was some time ago, it's only recently I've begun rewatching a no-commentary playthrough (and it's primarily through the fanfiction on A03. That, more than anything else, it what inspired me to pick Umineko up again).
The siblings alone, the ways they were raised along with the expectations for them, how they coped with it - all of it is very complex in canon, and it changes with their sex, in some ways minutely and in other ways, majorly.
Then we get to look at their marriages. Which occurs after Kinzo's miraculous revival of the Ushiromiya Family's wealth - after slowly loosening and severing the puppet strings of the elders (those alive, at least?) wrapped around his limbs - and the dynamics of the family change.
Kinzo remains silent, as to the matter of naming the heir - and while Eva holds tight to the belief, and even taunts his elder sister for not yet having married...there's a sort of unstability in the air, only furthered by worsening tensions between Kinzo and his wife - and Kinzo, often, disappearing on business trips from their home.
Then comes the acquisition of Rokkenjima by Kinzo, the construction of the mansion....for reference, the Ushiromiya Mansion is built in the 1950's - '52?
The Ushiromiya family is elite, having a personal island and the head of them all is a man infamous for his sheer luck in investing and gaining great wealth in a fairly short amount of time post-war. Still, Kinzo is silent about a heir - silent about his eldest marrying outside the family....
Usually, usually, woman in japan marry outside of the family register. So first and foremost, looking at a genderbent AU, why wouldn't Krauss and Rudolf marry into the spouses' family register?
Starting with Krauss:
Canonically, Krauss marries Natsuhi because he needs a wife to have a child. Natsuhi is essentially forced into this marriage, because her family is in dire financial straits. The marriage is an arranged one, essentially meant to solve two issues. The money issue for Natsuhi's family, and the heir issue for the Ushiromiya's.
In a genderbent AU, things would work...considerably differently.
Natsuhi's family would, quite likely, be in a similar situation - but this is a demerit on their end, because it holds no benefit to Kinzo or the Ushiromiya family. By marrying Krauss off to a member of Natsu's family, a line of shinto priests (and, if I'm not wrong, once-nobles?), there's no connections in other circles of society, no wealth awaiting his daughter or a boon to the family. From a utilitarian viewpoint, it would be a worthless match...
Considering Kinzo had already thrown off the elders by now, unless he was still in the process of trying to do so, it wouldn't be even enough to spite them (unless he was going down the whole 'spite their memory' route).
So, why Krauss and Natsuhi in this au? Why would they still be Ushiromiya's? Unless, even branch family's who no longer carry the name would be there - as in Eva = heir - but I'm aiming for somewhat close to canon here, working off the assumption that Krauss + Natsuhi are still the main household - not Eva + Hideyoshi.
Then again, it could be that Kinzo compares both Natsuhi and Eva. Eva having been groomed by the elders, but Natsuhi...Natsuhi, possibly, untouched by them. Perhaps throwing a bone to an old business partner, or even just lack of really caring...that bares a lot of thinking on, trying to get more insight as to Kinzo's point of view.
That would imply a projection of disdain, of hate or anger, upon his kids though. I'm...pretty sure Kinzo just, didn't care about them much, canonically? I'm aware he was physically abusive, and the effects that had on the siblings lasted their whole lifetimes - but for Kinzo, the abuser himself? Would you remember stepping on an ant, if it was just another pest to deal with, a minor worry in a sea of major ones?
Other then stating in the episodes that they failed to live up to expectations, being vultures...not mentioning Everything Else regarding the episodes that I know the bare minimum of, so I can't give a more in-depth look into the matter.
Anyway, Krauss would be the first to marry. Krauss should have left the family register -
and it's a blow to the system, to Eva personally, when she does not. When a man comes to the mansion as his sister's husband, unable to bear the family crest, and yet it's him who will be the next family head, for all that it is Krauss who is the actual heiress.
(Really wonder what Natsuhi would find work as, though...has more common sense than Krauss though, so the disatrous application of the Ushiromiya Money by Krauss in canon wouldn't come up...)
Oh, feeling particularly evil. Eva, going to Kinzo and wondering why Kristine is still there, bring up that it was him who was the heir - and Kinzo just musing if he, himself, had ever called Eva the heir.
It was always the elders, always mother -
But never father.
Goddamn, that's crushing.
That would also possibly be a major power trip on Krauss' end, one massive 'who is superior to whom now?' type situation. And poor Natsu would get caught in the brunt of the fallout.
Two extremely prideful, extremely intelligent men. The family crest worn by one, forbidden to the other - and it was the other, and the sister, who had been chosen by the father.
...I'm picturing some pretty achillean showdowns between Natsuhi and Eva, not going to lie. Eva being angry and wondering what made Kinzo deem him worthy over his own blood son (not even factoring in his sister here), this man he didn't permit to wear the one-winged eagle. Imagine the (toxic) kabedon to be had here...
Imagine the tension, possibly causing Eva to leave the mansion - or Kinzo or his wife to arrange a marriage for him because of the growing aggression and antagonistic attitude he began to take - worse than the past. If he was fixated on being a good 'heir', why didn't he take a wife and sire a child himself, too?
Which, then leads to the consideration of Hideyoshi's character. Canonically, I believe he started making money by rolling cigars and selling them - even if his business later was a restaurant chain. This post goes into the implications that he started this around the second world war, and was an orphan or old enough to be on his own at that time. Though I think I have slightly different headcanons pertaining to age, that doesn't have much bearing on the likelihood that, canonically, he was older than Eva and decently well-off at the time of their marriage.
Eva would likely already be running his own business, in a genderbent au. I can potentially see Hideyoshi still running a business here, but...man, oh man, wouldn't a pairing like that be a smack to Eva's sensibilities and belief system. His father, pairing him up with a woman just a bit older than him - a woman who works like a businessman, too? Imagine the sheer amount of times he'd put his foot in his mouth.
Assuming, of course, Kinzo would deem a woman 'like that' who was staunchly different from how he expected women to behave, as a good match. Another possibility was that, although not officially a big part of some company or other's success, Hideyoshi was the brains behind the operation - and that's what made her a fitting wife. We don't get much of Hideyoshi's backstory, in canon. We don't get much of any spouse's backstory, really - except in specific circumstances.
...Eva and Hideyoshi, I need more time to think about.
But, in a turn of events, it's ultimately not Krauss who leaves Rokkenjima. It's Eva.
and then there's Rudolf and Rosa.
Rudolf is complicated because there are two marriages. Asumu, and Kyrie. Mentioned in the post I linked above, it's likely that they all met around college and are close in age - Kyrie knew Rudolf first, I believe. Rudolf ended up marrying Asumu though, after he unintentionally got her pregnant - though he carried on an affair with her, and likely other woman throughout it all.
In a genderbent au, Rudolf's flirtatious nature and infidelity bites back on the ass. hard. namely in the form of a pregnancy. Considering she'd be sleeping with (at least) two men, Asumu and Kyrie, either one could be the baby daddy - meaning her father would either force her to marry one of them, or Rudolf could abort the child and cover it up so no one has to know it happened at all.
Rudolf is a selfish person, who thrives off gambling to fill endless vices - namely, lust in place of love and affection, though she gets that too. A child would get in the way of that, her bed frolicking when put bluntly - not to mention Krauss and her mother scoldings and haughty attitude and Rudolf's blatant snubbery of ladylike things - no one, least of all herself, believed her fit to be a mother. abortion would come to mind, no doubt.
shit like this could get her disowned. Unlike rosa in canon, she wasn't tricked or abandoned - doesn't really have a good excuse. Rudolf literally fucked around, and found out.
In canon, this led to a blitz wedding binding him and Asumu. In a Genderbent verse, assuming an abortion couldn't be done - either because the pregnancy wasn't noticed until it was too late or for some other reason, a similar event could occur.
If Kinzo got wind of it, it would be a matter of Kyrie's family vs Asumu's - and we know more about Kyrie than Asumu's. Guess who'd possibly win out, in Kinzo's eyes? A low-middle class family, or an upperclass household with shady potential yakuza connections? I say this, because I'm pretty sure Kyrie's summary screen mentions that she and Rudolf have shady dealings or connections or something and that's how they make bank.
And she doesn't know who the baby's daddy is, had to make a choice between men she was pulling along on a string. She works with one on a regular basis, and possibly the other. Hell of a proposal, that she was pregnant.
Considering even Rudolf in canon thought that Asumu knew about the affair, there's probably always the wonder of 'is this my child?' Which is fucked up all around, because not even Rudolf would know, unless she had a little black book where she wrote down when she slept with who - but especially for Kyrie and Asumu.
If Rudolf hid it, no doubt Kinzo would suspect the truth behind the sudden wedding - if he didn't find out, during preparations or just after.
Put simply, it's a total clusterfuck of drama.
Rosa - she didn't even have the chance to get married in canon. Her boyfriend got her pregnant, and then fucking left her with debt after she took out a loan for him.
In a GB AU, this gives me several ideas. Rosa gets a girlfriend pregnant, and she leaves him with the baby. Rosa does get married, or they're forced to, but they have a divorce somewhere along the line. Darkest of all, Rosa's girlfriend/wife dies.
The lives of the Ushiromiya siblings are like a soap opera.
It's one in morning, so I'll give just a quick rundown of the cousins. Going in order of age: George, Battler, Jessica, Maria, Ange.
George is Eva's only child, and a daughter. In his younger years, what he'd deem useless as a heir - useful only in marriages. His daughter is also the most precious thing he'd ever seen or held, while also being a nail in his coffin. He might have had a child before Krauss, but it wasn't a boy - useless to Kinzo, useless to securing Eva as heir.
George is raised strictly. Very strictly, to be the perfect lady - while also educated far beyond the standards of what he'd once thought a young lady should be held to. Eva, in a genderbent world, would be a bit like Natsuhi...he'd want his daughter to be capable of standing as a powerful heiress in her own right, even if it would have been better for them both if she'd been born a boy. She'd also be held accountable for achieving impossible standards - appearances, grades... not a material want in the world, but a deep need for space to breathe.
Battler, or in this case Valor, is Rudolf and Asumu's daughter. Quite a ways down the line of succession, isn't quite raised like Eva raises George. She gets raised a bit closer to a normal child, behave in school, try to get at least a B in classes...she is cosseted by her father. Kyrie would be a little less cool to her, I think, a little warmer - namely because she could very probably be his daughter and they just didn't know - DNA testing emerged in the 80's and Valor was born in '68 or '69 I think. Heightened tensions in the Rudolf Love Triangle, though.
Would still be raised with higher expectations, though. Good etiquette, good handwriting, maybe dancing...? (these are, admittedly, more stereotypes than what I actually know of a member of the upper crust's education and extracurriculars).
I can't tell if Rudolf would be fiercely protective of Valor, a bit uncomfortable with her, or something else entirely. Fiercely protective because - possibly - Kinzo wanted her to get an abortion, uncomfortable because she had planned to get an abortion herself - and also, what Valor meant between Asumu and Kyrie and herself.
But at the same time, I feel like she'd be done to commit fraud to ruin the father of a kid who teased her daughter on the playground. Maybe because I have a broken sense of humor.
Rudolf is a selfish man, would be a selfish woman - but cares for their kids. They might not be willing to be their neck on the line for them, maybe, but also have the potential to go ballistic for them.
Jessica would be raised strictly - not as intense as 'the world will end' schooling like with George, but pretty damn close. As the next head of the family, one allowed to wear the one-winged-eagle, he has to be above and beyond reproach. Natsuhi is the strict one of his parents, more often than not dealing with the worst of Eva being Eva, but...both of them are prone to wanting to spoil him.
It took so long to conceive Jessica, for Krauss. So, so, so very long. Considering a woman's worth in the family amounted to the connections she could bring and her womb's ability to carry a child - preferably a son - it was...hard for her, especially with Eva.
Though, he did shut up for a bit after George was born.
Maria...there's a lot for Maria, and I don't actually I could analyze his upbringing and how it changes in a GB verse right now. A big aspect is Rosa's abuse and neglect, and I think a large bit of it would remain the same but....I want to read more Umineko, especially turn and banquet, to get a better grasp on it.
It's about 1:20 in the morning, and the way she's raised touches kind of close to home. Not in terms of physical abuse, or the fact that it's very very very heavily implied that Maria is neurodivergent - just some parts of it.
anyway, yeah, this is my rambling on how genderbending stuff would change a lot of things in umineko - not getting heavily into the cousin's upbringing and mental state because my laptop is about to die and I'm not well-rested enough fpr this, nor are my ideas quite as fleshed out.
Please don’t flame me if you don’t agree with this or don’t like it, but if anyone has ideas they’d like to add, I’m all ears.

Humu humu, your silly little oomfie is awake on a patch morning you know what that means :pausechamp: ANALYSIS TIME
Let’s go down the list based on what order I’m gonna do them
Shimanto: kinda thought she was a little bad at first but it was because I forgor about plygun (once again plymmie fixes everything for me) she’s a aa specialist so I’m not *that* in love with her kit (especially since no torp preload with a skill that wants you to load your torps twice before getting it off) but she’ll be a star in w13 at least (three years too late :chernoupset: but hither thither)
Kearsarge: “where is my brother sasuke?” “I air strike I salvo I airstrike I salvo I airstrike I sa-” she’s absolutely everything I wanted out of a DR bbv, she slots a real fuckign plane, she synergizes immaculately between the two with planes increasing shell damage and shells increasing plane damage, speaking of synergy she loves yorktwon I think my new anti-light is gonna be Kear/NJ/Yorkie
Felix- I bet you’re all surprised to see fewix here instead of Hindy, well it’s for good reason- long time oomfies will know that I’m a big fan of dds, especially gun dds, from a gameplay perspective and wooo buddy Felix goes OFF, s2 gives 18% eva *and* damage reduc, shields every 10 seconds that give 8% eva RATE when broken, on a skill that also fucking gives luigis slow torp skill and 15% extra cruiser damage, and this isn’t even my favorite fucking skill because s1 gives her increase crit rate AND damage (10 and 20% respectively), gives her a skill to make her want to use her CL gun instead with 10% extra efficiency and a 10 second cool down on the REAL star of the show, a barrage that makes her do 15% more to the enemy, kit wise this ship is the most excited I’ve been to test for a while (for dds at least), even if she’s bad it’ll be a lot of fun finding out where she lies
Hindy- CAs are tricky because for a while now there’s been this stigma, save ancho there hasn’t been a CA that’s really been better then the average CB in a while, their guns are only moderately faster and deal less damage, they’re less tanky and they don’t have nearly as much utility even if they do have damage or tank (all of the ones you’d even consider using are the ones that have good utility like adalberts damage sponge or baltis avi buff) but holy shit does hindy perform and then some, let me put this in a language you can understand- mgm+2 ca gun/torp mount (no one give a shit)/*ca gun/aa gun flex slot*, we are fucking COOKING - her first skill gives 15% fp, 5% more damage and SHIELD PEN if you dual wield (she has some buffs for using an aa gun but I don’t really give a fuck about those) and her second skill gives her a barrage that gives a debuff that makes her fire a special weapon (the skill is vague so we don’t know much but possible 4th gun?!?!?!?) this girl is everything I could possibly want out of a DR CA and it feels so nice knowing they haven’t forgor them in favor of large cruisers
Flan- I’m really not a huge fan of her, my feelings about her faction aside they kinda did her fuckign nasty, a skill that gives a) a 20 second barrage (whatever) b) whenever this ship fires its gun for the first time (it says second but she has a preload), she marks an enemy that takes 12% more damage FROM HER till she drops below 60%, the amount of unpacking this would take could fill a library so I’m gonna be succinct and say it’s fucking dogshit but here’s the real fucking kicker, her second skill increases her eva and fp (nice) and gives her a 15% heal that increases her secondary guns range and efficiency by a substantial amount, meaning that she’s only really good for bosses that don’t have a lot of pregame or fucking pvp, and bossing is pretty fucking competitive

@princeescaluswords tagged me in a fanfic ask meme, and I’m loling at how few of the questions I can actually answer, because I swear I’ve literally forgotten more fandoms than most people will ever have. And I’ve probably written a good couple million words of fanfic all in total....
I know with just my first fandom alone, Roswell, I was in that one writing regularly for about three years and wrote and published probably a million words between the six or so ‘big fics’ I wrote......21 Down topped out at just over 200K, my Paradise Lost trilogy was probably a little longer as I think Genesis and Exodus were both around 80K and Revelations was probably closer to 100K. Riders of the Storm was around 120K.....Passage to Dawn I never actually finished because I scrapped it halfway through and started over.....and my revised version left off at around 50K I think, but the previous version before that had gotten up to 100K......and then I honestly can’t remember the names of my other two big fics at the moment, lmfao, I just know I had one more that was an amnesia trope fic and one that was....oh! Never mind, just remembered. The Long Dark Night of the Soul was one of my shorter ones, probably somewhere between 60-80K.
But yeah, that was just my first fandom alone......but fandom was a little different then, like in the sense that nobody was really writing posts about meta or episode or character analysis......Roswell fandom existed almost entirely on various messageboards and linked sites created by the community. It was years before Ao3 of course, and while ff.net was around, Roswell was one of those fandoms that just never congregated around it......people posting Roswell fics on ff.net were the outliers, the majority of fandom was centered around sites like roswellfanatics.net, crashdown.com and my personal site/board of choice to hang out and post at, polarattraction.com. I’m pretty sure all of those sites have been defunct for years, and I wish I’d done a better job of saving some of my own fics at least, lol. But point is, the fandom was geared just towards the writing and consumption of fanfic more than anything else......so if you were writing something, it was either a fic itself, or a comment on somebody else’s fic, lol.
Anyway, was just reviewing my various past fandoms, the ones I could remember, and thought of Dark Angel fandom, which I haven’t thought of in forever. Which is kinda funny to me, actually, considering my focus in DA fandom was pretty much exactly my focus in Batfandom - the found family feels.
LOL. Like, I was never one of the better known writers in DA fandom given that my focus was not really the same as most of fandom’s. DA fandom was largely split into two camps locked in eternal ship war - Logan/Max and Alec/Max. I had by this time ‘evolved’ to the point of looking at this and just snobbishly intoning “I do not care for the Straightness of this all and thus I choose to Abstain from the conflict” so there was that at least.....but yeah, thing was, personally, I was in Dark Angel fandom for the found family feels. Max’s eternal search for her siblings she’d been raised with but lost track of when they escaped from Manticore as children.....like that was the good stuff, that was what drew me in and kept me under lock and key until I’d banged out a good couple years’ worth of constant fic writing about her and her siblings before I moved on.
But while Max’s search for her siblings was the catalyst and central plot of the first season of Dark Angel, fandom pretty much only ever took off with the introduction of Alec in the second season, when it became an either/or choice between Alec and Logan. And with most of the second season moving away from Max’s search for her family to focus more on the larger big-picture plots, combined with the fact that most of Max’s siblings never actually made an appearance onscreen.....understandably, they didn’t end up occupying too much of a role in most of fandoms’ fics or interests.
Anyway, like I said, I churned out a shit ton of DA fanfic in a pretty short period of time....my single most popular fic was probably one about transgenics racing to find a cure when they realize they’d been genetically engineered to all ‘expire’ by a certain age, since their creators had no use for genetically engineered super-soldiers past the prime of their lives.
But my personal fave bits of writing, and the series I reeeeeeally regret not saving and wish I could find again, like, there was this one series of one-shots (ranging from a couple thousand words long to some that were about 20-30K long) written about each of Max’s siblings.....all fifteen of them, lol. Jondy’s was the first one I wrote, and one of the first things I wrote in that fandom, and then I just added new stories to that particular series up until Jack’s, the very last one a couple years later....which I THINK was the last thing I ever wrote/posted in that fandom.
And since we only ever met about half of these characters on the show, and most of them only for an episode each, for the most part they were blank slates and the equivalent of writing OCs......and so I’ll always have a soft spot for my time in DA fandom solely because of how many people told me my version of Max’s various siblings was like, the definitive version for them and what they based their own fics or takes on her siblings on. Swoon. Like, that’s my favorite kind of compliment, especially in fanfic writing.
So that series was my Big Thing even if it wasn’t my most popular or well-known fic, and the various stories in it were weird and whimsical and largely experimental. Because part of the point of fic writing for me instead of writing original fic is its like....fanfic is often the place where I just get weird with my writing and try new things even just stylistically. See what works and what doesn’t, etc.
Anyway, kinda curious if there’s anyone out there who was in Dark Angel fandom at all to any degree, or if any of these sound familiar or if anyone remembers reading them.
Like, so Jondy was Max’s sister who we never met in canon but Max talked about often as being her favorite sibling, and her story in this series was called “Little Lightning Girl.” In it she was a stripper slash vigilante, who used her job to take note of predatory guys who then she preemptively scared away from her coworkers or ran totally out of town. I forget how it went exactly, but that one was written as though it was all her stream of consciousness, and she had to my mind a kind of chaotic, whimsical sort of nature, so there was something in there like:
“Call me little lightning girl, for I’ve lightning in my veins. My hair is always frizzy, my steps all flicker-shimmy-shake. But when I strike, boom, clap, I’m thunder in reverse - by the time you hear the rumble, its already too late. That was you hitting the ground. Don’t hurry getting up. I can wait.”
And then Zane’s story was called “Zen and the Art of Not Breaking Your Customer’s Fucking Face (remember, its bad for business).”
Brin’s was “I Wasn’t Born Yesterday (but yesterday, I remember being very small).”
Zack’s was “Rules For When The Sky Is Falling (and this time it isn’t your fault).”
Syl’s was “The Kind of Girl You Bring Home to Meet Your Parents (when you’ve got the kind of parents that need killing).”
Ben’s was “They keep telling me I’m crazy (I say its the world that’s gone mad).”
Tinga’s was “A Storybook Kind of Princess (with a Grimm kind of happily ever after)” and Krit’s was “The Good Die Young, So Boy, You Better Be Bad.”
Kavi’s was “I Never Learned How To Play Ball (striking out comes naturally).”
Vada’s was “Chase Me To The Desert and Watch Me Live, I Bet I’ll Thrive (you better believe I was born to survive).”
And then Seth’s was “All Her Brothers’ Keeper (you keep your secrets and I’ll keep the watch).”
And though technically not escapees with the rest of them, I am anal and a completionist, so of course I had to write ones for Eva, Jack and Jace too.
Eva’s was “Big Sisters Know Best (so when I say I’ll die for you, just say thank you and live).”
Jace’s was “Leopards Never Change Their Spots (but why worry about my 5% leopard when I’m 10% shark).
And Jack’s was “Shelter The Innocent (but don’t look at the boy without shelter and say that boy, he’s no good).”
Anyway, been randomly thinking about those today now. Well, not randomly since I can follow the train of thought that led me to thinking about them, but you know what I mean. Its just kinda funny to me that I do remember those particular stories so well when there’s entire other fandoms I can barely remember writing in at all. And DA fandom wasn’t even one I was in all that long, ever knew too many other people in, or like....idk. I definitely, definitely have written much more well read and frequently commented upon stories than that fairly random little series of almost-OCs, but for some reason it stuck around in my head a lot longer and a lot more clearly than a ton of other stuff.

I watched 3.33 again, after many a year, and it’s going to take some more rewatches to really stick in my brain, but here’s what stands out to me.
Most of it’s Kaworu-heavy, as there is a lot going on here.
Also please note that this is just me getting my thoughts in order. This is all me trying to figure out what I just watched for the first time in many years. I will likely come back to this post and change some thoughts.
Also also, if you don’t like the Rebuilds, don’t bother with this post. It’s hard enough to find any discussions about these movies without someone sticking their ass in to say how they hate them. I don’t care if you hate them.
Kaworu is both the first angel and the thirteenth/final angel, which isn’t too big a difference from the original NGE, but it’s still significant to me. He becomes the ‘thirteenth’ when he and Shinji unknowingly fall into Gendo’s plot to wipe out the last traces of SEELE (which includes getting rid of Kaworu). This means Kaworu is technically the Alpha and the Omega--like Vergil from DMC :3
Kaworu is called “SEELE’s boy” by Fuyutsuki and Gendo, which means at some point between 2.22 (when they saw him on the moon) and 3.33 (fourteen years after he was given to them), they discovered his origins. They also learned he was intended as part of their Instrumentality Project (which is why Gendo insists Shinji pilot Unit 13 with Kaworu when the time comes).
But I don’t think Kaworu’s just a clone of Adam. Or rather, if he is, he’s the ideal type with a soul intact. When Shinji asks Kaworu why Rei wasn’t chosen to be the second pilot of Unit 13, Kaworu says that a “replica of [a human] won’t do; her soul is somewhere else.” This suggests that Kaworu, despite being made from Adam, also has a soul.
Kaworu seeing himself as the first angel--Adam--makes his comments to Shinji about how there is no such thing as an unforgivable sin, and that there is always hope, hit a lot harder this time around than they did originally. He’s speaking from the heart about things he feels about himself. He’s telling Shinji things he’s had to learn alone. This makes him hangin’ out on the moon, always looking up at Earth (which is still heavily damaged from Second Impact--in fact, you can see the wound of Second Impact on Earth very visibly from space) make a lot more sense. He’s looking at the damage he caused. He can’t not look at it.
This also makes him showing Shinji the damage of Near Third Impact incredibly painful not just because it’s an awful truth Shinji has to face, but because Kaworu is likely thinking of his own past and guilt. Shinji was unknowingly responsible for the near total destruction of the world and humanity--something Kaworu, as Adam, was also responsible for. But even though Kaworu himself technically didn’t do it (nor did Adam willingly cause Second Impact), he still harbors the grief and guilt--the sin--of those actions. This is why he’s so determined to make up for the past. This is why he clings so stubbornly to hope.
This is also why he takes the choker off Shinji. He is very blatantly taking on the burden of Shinji’s “sin” as an act of trust and love to Shinji. The choker was created to prevent an awakening disaster that was similar to the Impacts. The Second Impact only happened because test experiments on Adam woke him up. Kaworu puts the choker on himself, saying that it was created by Lilin because they feared him. I imagine a lot of this goes completely over Shinji’s head, and it sure flew over mine until this rewatch. While the choker wasn’t created with Kaworu specifically in mind, it was created in response to the type of destruction he did. Ergo, it was created out of fear of him.
The only two people in the world, in all of existence perhaps, who can understand the guilt, pain, horror, and desperate hope of being both responsible for the world’s destruction and its only chance at hope, are Kaworu and Shinji. These are also the two pilots whose hopes and actions are consistently used against them by the machinations of others (SEELE and NERV respectively).
This is in no way an attempt to diminish what Mari, Asuka, and Rei all go through as pilots, by the way. They’ve all got it pretty rough, and I’m not saying Kaworu and Shinji have it worse, only that 3.33 lays it on pretty thick that Shinji and Kaworu are the two characters who can really understand how the other one feels as they’re both consistently used as pawns. (Rei isn’t even a pawn, she’s cannon fodder waiting to be deployed, and that’s fucked up on a whole other level that makes me really sad for her.)
One thing I find quite sad about the choker bit is that it’s clear Kaworu never for a moment doubts that his orders (pilot Unit 13 with Shinji, remove the Lances, and restore the world) are in any way lies. He, like Rei (who only does anything as long as it’s an order), trusts his orders implicitly--which makes me wonder what, exactly, SEELE told him. I’m gonna guess they told him he was responsible in some way for the Second Impact, and that only he (and Shinji) could work together to fix it. He puts on the choker because he doesn’t think there’s a chance of it activating, doesn’t think there’s a chance that what they’re doing is wrong, but he still wants to relieve Shinji of his fear and pain.
The one thing that strikes me as really bizarre--like, to the point where I still struggle to understand it--is Kaworu’s final speech to Shinji.
Shinji: What should I do?
Kaworu: Even if your soul disappears, your wishes and curses remain in this world. Your will roams the world as information, and gradually changes. Eventually, even your own self is altered.
I think this is Kaworu saying, in a very... Kaworu way, that even if he dies, part of him will remain here with Shinji. The hopes he and Shinji shared, and even their pain/sin, will linger on in the world. That “will” lingers, and creates change. That’s why his final words are him directly saying, “We’ll meet again.”
I think this is also a very Kaworu way to tell Shinji what he was told at the start: don’t do anything/there’s nothing you can do. Kaworu is saying that there’s sadly nothing Shinji can do in this situation, just like there’s nothing any living person can do to control the fact that who they are--and how they are remembered--will be forever out of their control after death. But he also points out that even if you can’t deliberately change things, your impact on the world (your will) does change, and that in turn changes you.
3.33 is really not easy for me to digest, so I’m going to have to watch and rewatch it a lot to see what sticks out again. I just wish there was more actual analysis of the Rebuilds going around, because the changes they’re doing are super interesting, and 3.33 in particular seems to be both a big step up from EP 25/26′s and End of Eva’s lessons combined (how the only way you can ever hope to change what you hate about yourself and your life is by continuing to live). 3.33′s final message is about how change is inevitable even if you can’t control it--it continues on even after death.
But also, Kaworu’s final message is just one more evidence in the “loop zoop reincarnation timeline” theory pile lmao. Because his last words are ABOUT MEETING AGAIN AND HOW PARTS OF YOU LINGER IN THE WORLD AND CHANGE EVEN IF YOUR SOUL IS GONE
SO RLY THE FINAL CONVO IS LIKE
Shinji: What should I do? Kaworu: Wait a little bit, another loop zoop will kick in eventually.

sorry this is a lot but I enjoy your opinions. G, P, U, W, X, Z
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
Nah. I’m aggressively boring and uninvested in general in most romances so I usually just go with whatever’s canon and call it a day.
The closest thing I got to ever shipping in the past was being mildly surprised that people saw Link and Zelda as an item in Twilight Princess because they don’t really talk much in that game (they have maybe two conversations? Three if we count any presumed dialogue they might’ve had during the last boss battle when they’re on a horse together). I wouldn’t say I’m actually invested in it one way or another though. Link didn’t really have much of a personality until Wind Waker came along.
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
FFXV AU where Noctis asks literally any questions at all about anything and interacts with the plot as an active participant in it instead of a copypasted emotional beat from FFX and thus doesn’t die at the end due to lazy writer caveat. (spoilers i guess)
I am so so so so tempted to write this and the urge has been growing stronger over the last few weeks. I imagine fans of XV wouldn’t be too thrilled I’m writing fanfic specifically because I hate everything about XV, but y’all keep circulating posts about how writing fanfic to fix canon is totally valid!!! so I fully expect everyone to walk the walk after talking the talk.
On another note, AU where Cloud never actually makes it to Midgar after Zack gets filled with lead, thus never meeting Tifa at and least screwing his head on semi-straight, and just wanders around in the wilderness as a weird amnesiac murderhobo in a perpetual fugue state. Hijinks ensue I guess.
Shit, I should write that.
And now I have 48 fics queued. Look at what you’ve done. Are you proud of yourself?
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
alright let’s get the obvious one out of the way
Cloud because I used to fucking despise him and over time he really grew on me after I was exposed to his genuinely moving character arc and narrative that actively trampled every expectation I had about what it would be. Dumb asshole that unabashedly loves his friends, which is something that you rarely if ever see in other protagonists of his mould which is why it infurates me as much as it does when people (Square or the fanbase, it’s annoying either way) try to downplay it. That was one of the things that made him unique and compelling in the first place and you’re actively discarding it? Fuck you.
It’s genuinely refreshing to see someone try as hard as they can and fail catastrophically in every possible respect, and then that’s just the result and he has to come terms with that pain as something shaping who he was instead of just learning a lesson and then getting over it. There are a lot of matter-of-fact moments like that with regards to loss and pain in VII but Cloud’s arc actually took one of said moments and made it extremely cathartic.
I have a lot of fukken feelings about Cloud, man. That character analysis essay is officially four years old and the ETA on it is “whenever I guess”.
Azula from ATLA. I mean, I adore basically everyone in that series so I don’t even know which one I’d call my favourite, but I do think I ought to highlight Azula since a lot of who she is kinda gets overlooked. She’s like a family-friendly Eva character.
It’s genuinely fascinating to watch her break down, and on a second rewatch you can sort of tell which beats fell into place where. Ironically, she considers Zuko the “favoured child”, and part of the reasons she utterly despises/loves/despises him as much as she does is because she tries to earn his approval in her own weird, sociopathic way. Then, when he inevitably bails, he not only rejects her, he goes and shacks up with even more people that consciously chose to love him, and for all her talent, after all her hard work, all she has is Ozai, who’s probably never loved anything in his life. The unfairness of it all.
The breakdown she has at the end isn’t even anything new, really. It’s just the first time other people get to see it.
Speaking of Eva, Shinji. DISCLAIMER: YES SHINJI MASTURBATED TO COMPLETION OVER ASUKA’S COMATOSE BODY IN A BLATANT DISPLAY OF NOT ONLY HIS GENERAL DISLIKE AND FEAR OF WOMEN BUT IN AN EXPRESSION OF HIS REFUSAL TO PROJECT AFFECTION ONTO PEOPLE BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN REJECT HIM, PREFERRING TO SEE ASUKA AS A PERSON-SHAPED OBJECT INSTEAD. THERE I HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEMATIQUE ™ BIT NOW. CAN I LIKE THIS CHARACTER YET?
Shinji and Cloud have a lot of the same character arc, as I’ve mentioned probably more than a few times because I repeat myself a lot. Where Cloud is a more optimistic take on defining oneself on one’s own terms and as a result accepting that they can be someone worthy of love, Shinji’s side of that concept is waaaaaaaaaaay more cynical, in that Shinji kind of… doesn’t learn to do that in the end. Refuses to, in fact, to the point where it gets everyone killed. Also Kaworu is Zack if Zack actually had character development and if C//la/ck was actually canon. Where Cloud overcomes his fear of rejection by learning he is deserving of existence on his own merits, otherwise why would he have people that care about him in the first place, Shinji is crippled by it and spends most of the series screaming at anything that remotely resembles responsibility. For a guy that repeatedly tells himself “I mustn’t run away” his reaction to everything is almost exclusively to run away.
Now, I’m not necessarily implying that if things had gone worse, Cloud might have masturbated to completion over Tifa’s comatose body, but like… I’m just saying.
(Though Aeris and Tifa were admittedly a lot more stable than poor Asuka or Rei ever were, as low of a bar as that may be.)
In case it wasn’t obvious, I clearly have a Type. And that type is a maladjusted child soldier screaming VALIDATE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE from the top of the lightpole they climbed up to avoid their feelings, and they all deserve a good hug and a firm shove down a flight of stairs or two, in either order.
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
Love triangles. If I wanted to see a bunch of assholes do a bunch of petty bickering fueled by hormones and poor communication and pitting two people against one another for extremely asinine reasons, I’d lurk outside a high school.
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
Apart from the aforementioned Type ™ I have, people getting overwhelmed by gestures of basic human decency and the implications of that.
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)
God they did poor Luna so dirty. You could have replaced her with another fucking crystal or something and it would affect the plot about as much. Man, didn’t the selling point for FF used to be its rich, inventive storytelling?
Come the fuck on, Square, you had female characters figured out in fucking 1992. This isn’t hard.

Skam Italia episode 7 reaction
Edoardo: looking good just by comparison.
Clip 1 - A sandwich and a spoon
This is not a substantial comment but Silvia’s sandwich made me hungry.
So Silvia made out with the famous Rocco Martucci? That was the guy eyeballing her? I guess since we got a visual, he can’t be Italian Julian Dahl.
If I didn’t know better from having seen where the storyline goes, I’d say Silvia does a fairly convincing job of acting like she doesn’t care about Edoardo. You know, except for the part where she’s already making travel plans to accompany them on their vacation.
Lmao, Silvia and Eleonora allowed this spoon sucking to go on when Martino was right there in their faces. I appreciated how awkward this scenario was and that like, none of them attempted to make small talk to distract from Fede’s innuendo.
Clip 2 - Skate park
That skate park looks fun. It kinda looks like a swimming pool that was converted into something else, based on the colors, but I’m assuming it was always a skate park. But on that note, the visuals and colors of Skam Italia are usually great. I’m not going to do an in-depth analysis at the moment but it seems like the majority of scenes are very warm with a lot of brown/orange/yellow, and sometimes they do a scene that sticks out to me because it’s so cool and blue. It’s all rather striking. And of all the remakes, this one is making the most of its setting (Skam Austin is doing some things with the city but I feel way more of a sense of place in Skam Italia than Druck or Skam France).
I like when the Isak character prods Eva a little to tell him what’s up, since I think it fits what Isak is about to do to her in a few scenes, and because I always wonder why Eva didn’t just tell Noora if she was feel guilty - it helps to have the prompt from Isak to get out her confession. That being said, Eva and Martino’s relationship has been established as close and comfortable on its own merits that I can certainly buy Eva opening up to him. They’ve put in the work to make them have a rapport.
Lmao, Martino making that hand motion about Fede and her spoon. Thanks for the S3 teaser!
Tiny thing but when Eva swallows out of anxiety, you can see Martino half out of frame swallow right after she does, like he’s got some conflict on his own. That might not even be a conscious choice but it’s a good acting detail nonetheless. I think I mentioned previously that these actors have known each other for years and it’s stuff like that, the mimicry and feeding off each other, which makes the chemistry more convincing.
Yeah, this is my favorite Eva-Isak friendship after the original by far, so it’s really going to sting when the reveal happens.
Clip 3 - The wall
I’m glad that Eleonora checked in whether Edoardo wrote back to Silvia before she snapped her back to reality. You know, just in case he did.
Also in this scene Silvia still seems stuck in Edoardoland and firmly convinced that he’s into her, whereas I remember Vilde seeming a little deflated and knowing that Noora would not approve of her talking about William when she entered the scene. She’s pretty good at putting up a confident front when she needs to.
I think Silvia’s hooking up with Rocco Martucci was a misguided attempt to make Edoardo jealous and get him back, which is too bad. I wish she was legit trying to have fun or move on. I know for plot reasons that’s not how it goes, but still.
Both Eleonora and Eva were very sweet to Silvia and not too harsh or judgmental.
I really love making it into a wall of conquests instead of the sweatshirts, and I appreciate that Silvia gets to save face a little bit since the sweatshirt is a public “I fucked Edoardo” marker but the wall gets to preserve her anonymity and (some of) her dignity while still communicating that the boys think of the girls as trophies. But I almost hate it, because now I need that scene where the girls paint over or draw or deface the wall in some way, and I don’t think I’ll get it. Give me that thing, Skam Italia!
For a minute I thought Eva was going to pull out a marker or something and draw over the chart.
Based off the wall, Rocco Martucci sure has been busy.
Clip 4 - Eva on the phone with “mom”
Federico roleplaying as Eva’s mom toward the end of that phone conversation … I’ve never been a huge fan of P-Chris or any version of this character but this is a detail I often forget and I have no idea why, it’s one of the best things he ever did.
Gio deserves all the roasting he can get about his weed use. It’s nice that he’s being honest about having weed on him, but like … she’s made it clear he behaves like an asshole when he’s high, and that this isn’t some vague ideological problem for her but something based on his past behavior. So some of the banter is cute and all but him offering her some pot, even in a joking way, annoys me more than it should with this dynamic in mind. Dammit, Gio.
Clip 5 - Eleonora goes in on Edoardo
Silvia opening with some random mundane topics was kind of cute - either a bit clueless and rambling, much like her many many texts to the girls, or you can also take away that she was building up to the big news and trying to psych herself up.
I’m glad Eva called Sana on the dignity comment since that always seemed like one of the least necessary Sana comments about Vilde, particularly in this context, and probably just egged her on to confront him.
Silvia didn’t need any convincing from the girls whereas Noora was encouraging Vilde in the other versions. Silvia is dead set on it.
I like how they built up to it with the catchy music that cuts out as Edoardo bursts Silvia’s confidence bubble.
Sooo … Edoardo is still a dick, but maybe less of a dick that William? Who knew?
He still does the fake forgetting Silvia’s name, and his comment about the wall is outright lying but not as personal of an attack. He does laugh more at her which is a dick move, especially in front of his crew. However, he doesn’t tell her she isn’t worth it.
“What were you doing behind the boys’ toilets?” I’m assuming he’s insinuating that she’s a slut? That’s horrible and Edoardo is a creep, but I also have less of a fuuuuuuck youuuuuuu feeling toward him. Because the whole thing about Vilde not being worth it/not being pretty enough plays directly into Vilde’s worst insecurities and body image. And we’ve seen that Silvia has the body image issues as evidenced by her picking at her sandwich. I’m not positive that Silvia has the same hangups about being labeled a slut? She has the hesitation to go upstairs with Eduardo and you could interpret that as fear of her reputation, but she’s also down to make out with Rocco Martucci and stresses that she wanted to.
So while I want to make it clear, Edoardo is being an asshole, and being called a slut is hurtful and misogynistic … I actually will find this easier to forgive than William’s comments. I mean it mostly depends on how Edoardo reacts in future episodes, whether he regrets it or not, how it all plays out, but so far he doesn’t have as high of a hurdle in getting me to like him. Like how is Edoardo going to justify his comments the same way in S2 when Eleonora calls him on it? It’s not the same context. (And again: NOT excusing slut-shaming but I think there may be a difference in terms of how someone with poor self-image might perceive this comment, because “slut” is an insult dependent on behavior, vs. telling someone they aren’t pretty enough which is perceived as a more inherent, unchangeable characteristic. But again, William’s comment directly feeds into Vilde’s ED; how will Edoardo’s comment affect Silvia on a similar level? “Slut” doesn’t have much to do with an ED, at least not in an obvious way.)
Lmao, I feel kinda gross writing anything vaguely positive about Edoardo in this scene, since “not as much of a dick as he could have been” is not a ringing endorsement, but since this incident is a huge roadblock in me liking William in the original version, it’s worth talking about.
This was also the best version of this roasting in the remakes. Eleonora has the attitude to back up her comments, and Edoardo has some personality in how he responds to her.
Love that Eleonora got in her comment about his stupid hair as a last dig, but also, Edoardo has the best hair of any of the Williams, IMO.
Clip 6 - Fight
Gio opens his mouth so much for the kisses, damn. I’m not knocking him, I would rather see enthusiastic kisses than a bunch of pathetic pecks, but the dude is like Pac-Man.
Um that bit about the teacher siding with Alice over Federico and making him run laps is really funny, but you can see why it would alarm Eva, because she realizes she’s on the side of the bad guy in this situation. Would the teacher side with Alice against Eva, too?
The fight was brutal! All the girls jumped in to protect Eva. Sana went in with the dictionary, Silvia with the backpack. Eleonora is straight-up snarling by the end. Eva wasn’t even fighting after a certain point, just standing back as her girls defended her. The most heartwarming brawl of all time.
General Comments:
How does Skam Italia have the worst Jonas (outside of Marlon from Skam Austin) and the best William? How?
Listen, I am really not expecting to love Eleonora/Edoardo or Edoardo himself. It’s not a relationship type I’m fond of, he’s not a character archetype I enjoy. But if they can eliminate the worst of his behavior and modify certain actions ... then I can be fine with him and with the ship. I am being very, very hesitant to assume Skam Italia will make enough radical changes just because they did a few things that weren’t as bad; however, I am willing to give it a chance.
It’s kind of funny because there was a rumor going around that they’ll jump to Martino’s story in S2 instead of Eleonora’s and lmao, not sure how legit that is but of course they would do it for the one remake where I hate the William the least. Not that I’m objecting to the gay storyline getting the spotlight sooner, though I do wonder how they will adapt certain plot elements without the buildup (Eskild’s S2 introduction, Isak’s background storyline of dating Sara and living in the basement).
Skam Italia seems by far the most popular and well-liked of the European remakes, which I can quite understand. Skam France is too much of a copy without much of an individual personality and Druck, though I’ve liked many of the scenes and characters, has a lot of hiccups in terms of production and updates, which is unfortunately turning people off and making the show less accessible. Not to repeat myself too much but: I have some big gripes about Skam Italia but it’s for the most part consistent, is nicely made with beautiful locations and nice cinematography, and has integrated the local culture well, putting its own spin on the material and not being a direct copy. None of the actors have really wowed me so far but there are some likable personalities in the bunch. My hope is that they will keep it up and either improve on the Eleonora/Edoardo relationship, or do a respectful job of Martino’s story, depending on what S2 is. (Even though I don’t want them to attempt Evak 2.0 at all ... but that’s a larger topic.)
I’m not Italian so if I misunderstood or missed something, feel free to correct me.
If you got this far, thank you for reading!

SKAM Theories, Speculation, and Analysis of what we know so far - Season 4 Hiatus
Hi all, It’s Holly, your least favorite SKAM blog again. I am putting together a master post of speculation, theories, and other stuff because this hiatus is killing me. You’d think after 112 days of absolutely zero content would prepare me for ten days, but here I am. So, this will kind of be chronological, and kind of in order of small details to big picture stuff. Because It’s semi - chronological, most of the beginning sections will be Even and Balloon Squad stuff, and  Feel free to message me on your thoughts, I encourage you all to disagree, have your own opinions, but just do it respectfully.
This should be pretty obvious, but if you aren’t caught up with S4E5 yet, this will be spoilers galore.
Bolded things are summaries of a topic, or main / important ideas of a topic
Disclaimer: I am not an expert on anything bipolar / mental illness related, or anything related to Islam. I’ve pulled an Isak and googled different types of bipolar, I know a few people who are mentally ill, but its different for everyone. I’ve read a little bit of the Qur’an, and I’ve tried to educate myself of some Islamic traditions and rituals, but I definitely do not know everything. If I say something wrong or ignorant, PLEASE CORRECT ME, but do it respectfully and I will gladly change it.
Here is the list of topics in order that will be covered:

Here we go!
Sana being ignored - a look through the ages
Sana has been being ignored from the first episode she is introduced.
Vilde’s first visit to the school doctor: Where’s Sana?
The rest of the girls drinking in Eva’s room before Vilde sleeps with William: Where’s Sana?
We didn’t really think much of it when it was happening, and thats because of perspective. Perspective is possibly the most important lesson in this entire series (more on that later) and we were seeing this from Eva’s perspective. Eva probably didn’t notice too much that Sana was being left out, probably because she wasn’t that close to her yet, but now we get upset about Sana being excluded because we are actually affected by it.
Even’s timeline
This is what we have been told as of now. Some theorize that some of this info is false, and we obviously have a lot of missing information, but here’s what we think we know so far:
In Even’s second year, the video interview with him and Mikael was made. (x)
It’s 2015
Even is in his third year at Bakka
He is part of the Balloon Squad
Sonja and him have been dating for a year or two at this point
At some point, Even tries to kiss Mikael
Mikael pulls away because he is religious
Even memorizes the Qur’an in Arabic in attempt to cure himself
Even begins posting verses on Facebook about gay people going to Hell (flame emoji?)
We know this is the school’s Facebook page, as per Vilde in this text
I think its safe to assume that Even was manic when he posted that stuff
BUT we cannot be sure whether he was manic or not when he decided to read the Qur’an.
Sonja says he was in S3E8
But Sonja has also said that Even’s feelings for Isak are a result of mania, and basically that Isak was a symptom of Even’s mania
Obviously this turned out to be false
So the line between his mania and non-mania regarding what happened at Bakka is still extremely blurry. (non-mania? idk what to call it sorry, as I’ve said, I’m not an expert on bipolar, and I'm pretty sure it’s not appropriate to call it “when he was ‘normal’”, is “stable” an okay word to use? someone please educate me)
He hurt someone, and we have yet to find out who that is.
We know he hurt someone, or at least thinks he did because
Take a look at the aluminum leg story in S3E3. It seems like a harmless little joke, but it turned out to be an allegory to how he thinks Sonja views their relationship and such. So in S3E10 when he says “I’ll just hurt you, and then you’ll hate me”, this isn’t just because he thinks it will happen, it’s because it has happened before.
The obvious answer at the beginning of the season was Mikael, but now it seems to be Yousef. (I think it’s Yousef)
Even’s relationship with each member of the Balloon Squad
Mikael refers to Even as his best buddy, so we know they were close at some point, definitely before the kissing incident happened.
Elias and Even must have been close as well. This is demonstrated when Even asks Sana how “the boys” are doing, and then asks specifically about Elias. This is probably because Elias is her brother, the one she would know most about, but he doesn’t go on to ask about the rest of them individually.
Yousef and Even’s relationship seems more complicated than the others. They were close friends at some point, (battle 2015 photo, Yousef knows too much a lot about what happened between him and Mikael) Even obviously still loves all the boys, as I said in the bullet above, and Yousef seems to still love Even too, as we see in S4E4. He was so upset about what happened with Even, he gave up his religion, his beliefs. I think the reason he could have been potentially upset at Sana for having them be in the same place at the end of S4E5 was because he wasn’t ready. Not because he didn’t love Even, or was mad at Even, but because he wasn’t ready. (I think this goes without saying, but when I say love here, it is being used 100% platonic. The Balloon Squad, those boys, love each other. That much is obvious, and that’s that.)
I think Mutta and Adam are just more side characters, to add to the dynamic of the squad. They balance out the 5 Girl Squad members and the 4 (5? Is Even officially part of the Boy Squad now?) Boy Squad members, so it just kinda makes sense that there would be 5 Balloon Boys as well. They were probably Even’s buddies, but not as close to him as the other three.
Hvem er Mikael?
Ahh, here we are, the ever elusive Mikael. The Man, The Myth,The Legend. He is
Even’s “best buddy” in 2015
“I’m honest because I care about you” (x)  We’ve seen Mikael and the other boys be affectionate with each other, physically and emotionally. This seems to be just another example of this.
Even refers to him as the “previous man of my life” in this text, and as I’ve stated before, Even’s jokes always have an element of truth in them somewhere.
“He tried to kiss Mikael” - Okay, but if all of what Yousef said in that clip was true, why would Mikael be laughing at the mention of Even’s name in the SMS Roulette video?
When Yousef brought up Even in “The Best of Islam”, he was sad talking about him, obviously because one of his friends tried to kill himself.
I will explain in the “The Even x Mikael x Yousef situation: A Theory” section of this post why I think that is that they have such different reactions.
The Even x Mikael x Yousef situation: A Theory
This is a theory, not an analysis of what we already know and etc.
Sooo... here are some theories (x) (x) (x) especially the last one, etc. about Yousef (and Mikael) being gay / not straight, and I honestly don’t agree with it. As much as I would love to see a Muslim LGBT+ character in the media, it just doesn’t seem like it would be Yousef to me.
Some of the evidence pointing to the fact he might be gay is
the visual parallels between Isak and Emma making out in S3E1 and Yousef and Noora making out in S4E5 (I.E. just kissing, arms at the sides, generally disinterested) which makes sense.
Julie is looking for any opportunity to throw us off, plot twist the shit out of this season, and keep us on our toes, which is getting more and more difficult as time goes on, so we always have to keep that in mind.
Now here’s why I think he’s not gay
If Yousef was gay, and it was actually him that was involved with the kissing situation then
the Qur’an verses that Even posted would be directed at Yousef (and himself)
Hence the flame emoji thing in the SMS Roulette video
But Elias is the one that said that.
I highly doubt that when Even posted that stuff, he called Yousef out by name. So assuming the passages were just directed at Yousef and that’s what Elias was referencing with the flame emoji thing, that would mean Elias knows that Yousef is gay or that something happened between him and Even. Then that would mean Elias encouraged Sana to romantically pursue Yousef in Humble, while knowing he was gay, and intentionally fucking over his sister???? which is the exact opposite of everything we’ve seen with him????? It just doesn’t add up
I could see Yousef being bi or something and having a sexuality crisis in his Bakka days, because I truly believe he had feelings for Sana, and if he was bi, then that takes care of that.
I also don’t think Mikael is gay / LGBT+ because
he supposedly pushed Even away for being gay because he is religious
but he wears nail polish and kisses other boy’s hands and stuff like that
and in no way am I saying that because he does that stuff that makes him gay
But if Mikael is actually homophobic, or if he is actually gay and had internalized homophobia and issues with himself, I highly doubt in either situation he’d be too keen on doing traditionally gay things a lot
does that make sense?
I think that Yousef is the only Balloon Boy that knows Even tried to kill himself
Yousef seems to be the only one that is sad to see / hear bout Even
The others seem not affected, like Mikael in SMS Roulette, or upset / startled / angry, like Elias at the end of S4E5 etc.
Other people have pointed out that if he’s the only one that knows
Yousef must have been the one to find Even when he tried
Sonja’s Role
If I did the math right, her and Even started dating roughly around 2012, waayyy before the kissing incident with the Balloon Squad
As I talked about above somewhere, she claims Even memorized the Qur’an, “because at the time he thought it was a ‘good idea’”, and how that might not be entirely true because the line between mania and non-mania back then was so blurry
So did she know about the Mikael situation?
I feel like her role might be really important, because it was actually one of the most important roles in S3, but I don’t think we’d ever see Sana and Sonja interact, so maybe when we get the full story she will have something more to do with it.
Even’s Christmas Text
This is bolded because it’s my favorite theory I think. Who could it be? That little facial expression (timestamp: 5:09) was not in there for no reason, and like Julie said, she’s looking to throw us off.
Mikael: I don’t think it’s him. The second Mikael sees Even and Isak at the karaoke bar, he’s outta there faster than a green snake in a sugar cane field. He doesn’t seem too keen on acknowledging Even.
Sana: She might have texted him right before she walked in and told him not to worry, she wouldn’t say anything, or something along those lines. Again, possible, but not likely.
Yousef: Probable. Like I’ve said before, Yousef was probably upset to see that Sana brought him and Even together because he wasn’t ready. He seems like a very thoughtful person. After Sana asks him why he doesn’t believe in Allah, he doesn’t immediate respond. He takes a moment to gather his thoughts, and I feel like he would want to think over what he wants to say to his friend he hasn’t talked to in a year who tried to kill himself very carefully, (who wouldn’t) and what better way than a text he can write over and over again and revise it?
Sonja: Everything points to her, at least to me. After Isak texted her, maybe she felt she should say something directly to Even. This always seemed the most probable to me, but I am absolutely set on finding out what that was about, and like I said in the “Sonja’s Role” section, I don’t think we’ll see more of her. The only thing I could think of is if Even tells Sana that Sonja texted him, but I don’t see how that would be relevant to anything.
Season 4 Trailer Analysis
I’m not gonna go into what each action in the trailer means. People have already done that. But the new speculation: The Trailer Is In Reverse!!!
I’m going to refer to the original trailer as the original, and the edited one as the “forwards” one.
So, in the forwards trailer, Sana trips Noora and causes a chain reaction that ends with Even getting hurt (with a selfie stick = social media?) and Isak stays by his side.
But, in the original, it starts with Even gathering up his blood (clearing up his past?) and Isak helps him back on his feet.
It ends with Sana pulling Noora up.
In the forwards version, Sana makes a decision that causes people to get hurt, while in the original Sana fixes everything just like she’s done in all three past seasons.
Also, are the roles reversed? Even bleeds in the trailer, but Isak got punched. Sana tripped Noora but Sana got hurt when Noora kissed Yousef. So if Isak is actually Even and Sana is actually Noora, is Yousef actually Mikael (and Vilde falls for Eva?)
Sana’s Attitude Towards Vilde in S4 so far
Sana seems generally annoyed at her and is ready to snip at her
“your mom is not having a wine tasting party”
Sana won’t let her talk when they go to look at the bus
Sana tells the girls they are joining with Pepsi Max, and that they pay and she is the Bus Boss
This is Vilde’s reaction:
Tumblr media
She looks angry
But she says “sana’s the boss, she’ll fix it. Remember when she fixed the toilet paper situation (in S1)?”
This seems innocent, but I think it’s a challenge
Like “You can fix it... can’t you?”
Vilde is waiting for Sana to screw up so she can take over.
In S2, Vilde talks about how much she likes William, after she saw Noora kissing him
She does this because she’s trying to get Noora to tell her about it and get a reaction out of her
So isn’t she trying to get a reaction out of Sana too?
She’s also trying to get a rise out of Sana by talking about her and Magnus
In S4E1, before Sana walks in they are “casually talking bout different shades of blue”. Everyone stops, says hi, to her, and the Vilde pipes up and says, “anyway Magnus and I have sex all the time blahh blah blah”
In her mind, maybe what she wants to happen is Sana snaps and does something, Vilde will tell the Girl Squad she’s psycho (I could see her being like “I knew from the beginning and you guys didn’t listen to me”) and then she will be the new buss boss
Was Yousef going to kiss Sana at the end of “The Best of Islam”?
First off, I’d like to say props to Julie Andem for creating potentially the most pure relationship in television history. If Sana and Yousef do get together, I feel it is highly unlikely for them to kiss or anything, so this would be a relationship fueled by purely emotion, trust, and communication, and not on physical things (of course there’s the physical want we’ve seen from Sana’s side, but you know what I mean). I’m pretty sure no one wants to see her compromise her beliefs and have sex with Yousef or something stupid like that (like Noora did with William)
I think that he was going to kiss her
they seemed to have an entire conversation that we, the viewers, didn’t understand entirely just by looking at each other.
Yousef does this tiny little head nod (timestamp: 14:24) and leans forward a minute amount, and then Sana starts shaking her head.
Then, at 14:30 he rolls his eyes a little, and says, “No?” like he was asking to kiss her, she said no, and then he was like “why am I such an idiot, she obviously doesn’t like me if she deleted me on Facebook” etc.
This would also explain why he would kiss Noora
Sana + Noorhelm drama
Eva was the first one to know about William’s knew
Sana was the only one who wanted to tell Noora
She wanted to tell her because she’s trying to protect her friend
Just like she told Vilde William wasn’t interested in S1
Noora thought that was mean of Sana to be honest with Vilde
But Noora thought it was mean of Sana to not tell her?
SANA WAS LITERALLY ABOUT TO TELL NOORA AND THEN NOORA STARTED TALKING OVER HER. In “heartbreak”, (timestamp: 5:28) Sana takes a breath and says, “Du-” (you) and immediately gets cut off by Noora saying “oh my god, if I think about him with anyone else I’m going to break” or whatever
Maybe Noora will realize this and apologize to Sana right away and it will set up Noora being on Sana’s side when she finds out about Sana being kicked off the bus?
But maybe I’m just being optimistic
Yousef and Not Fighting
I feel like the reason he stayed behind was because he didn’t want to choose sides. If we’re sticking with the theory that he knew about about Even’s suicide attempt, but the others didn’t, then this makes sense. He didn’t want to choose sides. He wouldn’t want to go out there and fight with the Balloon Squad because he obviously still cares about Even and wouldn’t want to fight his friends. But he wouldn’t want to fight with the Boy Squad because then he’d have to explain why he stood up for Even to the Balloon boys, and tell them about the suicide attempt.
What was the fight about?
My original theory: before the clip came out, I saw the BTS pics and thought maybe Magnus finds out about the SMS roulette Nudes 4 Nudes thing and dukes it out when he sees Elias. This is probably not true now that we’ve seen the clip.
Obvious theory: Mikael or Mutta, the only two outside with the Boy Squad, started a fight because they didn’t like seeing Even in a homosexual relationship. Obvious. Too obvious. Especially because the girls in the bathroom think that's why it happened.
Other: Isak threw the first punch. As we see him walking away, we see him shaking his hand. Maybe because he was shaking off blood, maybe because he was shaking off pain?
Girls in the bathroom
Like I just said, Because they think that the fight was about Muslims Vs. Gays™ this is probably not true.
Sana can’t win. According to the girls, she’s too Muslim to be on the bus and be a good bus boss... but she’s not Muslim enough to be a good representation of Islam... like... what? That conversation upset me so much.
Did Vilde snake? Or is that just false rumors? I don’t think Noora knows, or Chris, but did Eva know that they were going to throw her off the bus? She looks uncomfortable when Sana and Noora approach them and the Pepsi Max girls. Assuming they didn’t know, will they stand by her? Will they take Pepsi Max’s side?
Noora’s motivation to kiss Yousef
1. Noora did not know about Sana’s feelings for Yousef. She had already expressed interest in him, and was lonely and upset and saw him and kissed him.
2. Noora did know about Sana’s feelings for Yousef, and she was upset at Sana and wanted to get back at her. Some think that Noora expressing interest in Yousef was actually her subtly asking about Sana’s feelings for him. This seems ooc to me, but who knows?
Yousef’s Motivation to kiss Noora
This is more complicated.
Perspective: He didn’t actually like Sana, and since we’re seeing things through her eyes, she made it up in her head. He is affectionate with his friends, so he would be affectionate towards her too. (This kinda makes sense, but my Yousana shipping heart refuses to believe it)
Mama Bakkoush told him to stay away. This seems like a possibility, like after she knows 100% that there is nothing to worry about, and then she texts Sana and is like “I trust you” etc. I just feel like every time we see a kid with a religious family, the parents are always portrayed as overbearing and suffocating, and I feel like Julie is gonna give us a new look at a religious poc mom that is actually a great mom, like most of what we’ve seen of her.
The most likely thing to me seems like he liked her, and then was upset because he opened up to her in S4E4, and then she put the Balloon Boys and Evak intentionally in the same place without warning him. Or Noora told him what Sana said about him being immature etc.
Season 4 Hiatus Trailer Analysis
Who is eating the carrot?
Assuming it’s Noora, the carrot represents Yousana. She destroys it.
Assuming it’s Sana, the carrot represents her feelings. Instead of “pulling it closer”, like Yousef suggests, she “pushes it away and looses control over it.” Her feelings eat her up, and she’s stuffing all her feelings inside.
It is Isak’s black eye, someone did a side by side comparison proving it’s him.
Tumblr media
Whose hair and whose hand?
Yousef running his hands through his hair?
Mikael running his hands through his hair?
Even running his hands through Mikael’s hair? (Pls no Julie)
It looks like a male hand, so not Noora and Yousef.
I think it’s Yousef. look at how he does it in “feel it coming”

Sara’s Mouth.
She’s smiling... dos this mean she gets what she wants and Sana is actually thrown off the bus?

BIGGER IDEAS
Why the Russ bus is Important
It’s a symbol. Y’all are complaining that it’s getting too much screen time for something we won’t even get to see, but first of all, It’s what brought the girls together in the first place. But it’s also a symbol to Sana. It’s a symbol of her Norwegian identity.
Vilde’s Character Development / Gay Vilde
Very few side characters have gone through development. It’s mainly only been
William through the second season.
We’ve also heard of Even’s development; he hated himself for wanting to kiss boys and now he’s comfortable with himself. We didn’t actually see that though, we only know him after he’s comfortable with himself.
One could make the argue Jonas had a little development, from Jonas “you only know gay songs” Noah Vasquez in S1 to Jonas “what’s up with you dissing gay people”  “he needs to break up with his girlfriend”  “straight up” Noah Vasquez in S3.
Vilde is the most complex non-main character we’ve ever had, but is there even time for a redemption arc?
When I first saw the gay Vilde theory, I thought it was just people on Tumblr doing their thing and head cannoning her as gay with only 1 questionable scene as evidence but upon further inspection....
The thing that sticks out to me most is the scene in S1 when Vilde is trying to get turned on when thinking about William, she says “nothing makesme horny”. Then in S2 when are the girls are sitting on the windowsil, Noora is texting so it’s only in some versions of the subtitles, but Vilde’s back at it again talking about Noora being a lesbian. And Vilde says “I’ve made out with Eva. The feelings that arise when you make out with a girl don’t necessarily mean you’re a lesbian.”  Eva replies, “What kind of feelings?”  To which Vilde responds “horny”.
This post does a nice job outlining it.
Sana’s Mirror and Foil
Even is Sana’s Mirror (click here if you don’t know what a mirror is, or here to see how Noora was Isak’s mirror in S3)
Even pulled away from Isak after Isak said “I don’t want mentally Ill people in my life”
Sana pulled away from Yousef after he said “I don’t believe in Allah”
Again, God bless Julie Andem, we get to see the perspective of both sides
Even’s struggle with his past vs. his future self, and we’ll probably see him find a great balance, Sana’s struggle with her Muslim self vs her Norwegian self, which again, we will hopefully see resolved.
Noora is Sana’s Foil (click here or here if you don’t know what a foil is)
She is the epitome of the typical Norwegian girl, what Sana thinks she is expected to be like, or what she wants to fit into. The girls in the bathroom saying “wow Noora’s so pretty” Noora kissing Sana’s love interest, etc. etc.
Evak is paralleling Yousana
Evak is the foil to Vildus
I will explain more of that in a later post I will make and link to it
Parallels
Like I said, I’m working on it. It needs to be a whole separate post because this is already so long.
Themes
Figuring out who you are and who you want to be, rather than what others want you to be. In Season 1, when Eva tells Jonas that “his opinion meant more than her own, and that’s not okay.” The central theme of Season 1, reflected again in Season 3 with Isak struggling to fit in with his friends. This also seems to be making a comeback in Season 4, Sana struggling between her Muslim identity, her Norwegian identity, and her personality. She’s the kind of person who’s comfortable with who she is, but I think she has yet to find out who that is.
Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.
Learn to consider how other people think. Everyone has their reasons for what they do, not everyone will think the way you do, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Think back to Sana and Noora and the windowsill talk in Season 2, or in Season 3 when Sana tells Isak “can’t we just agree that there’s a lot between Heaven and Earth that none of us know anything about? Instead of sitting here criticizing my religion, just respect that we’ve chosen different beliefs.”
Alt er love
Predestination. In season 3, with all of the Christianity symbolism and talk of parrallel universes, we see that you can’t see the future. Every choice you make affects the possibilities for the future, so instead of worrying about what you did, and what might happen, just remember that
Life is Now.
Misunderstandings. Season 4. This is pretty self explanatory, and I’m extremely interested to see how his plays out.
Perspective. THIS IS HUGE. THIS IS THE OVERALL THEME OF THE ENTIRE SHOW, SO IT GETS ITS OWN SECTION.
PERSPECTIVE
Oh boy, here we go. The reason why the narrative only stays in one person’s perspective for a whole season is because that’s how we get immersed in the story. We don’t know more than they know, we are frustrated because we don’t know why that other person did that thing to the main. It makes everything more relatable, and hit closer to home. This ties into communication is key, this ties into misunderstandings, this ties into be yourself, this ties into Alt er love, this ties into be kind always. It teaches us that we can’t get into someone else head. We can’t make assumptions about other people. We won’t ever truly understand someone without seeing everything from their perspective.
So remember: Karma’s a bitch, be kind, always, alt er love, and life is... Now.

Sol LeWitt and Eva Hesse Background
When I first saw the wall, I didn’t see what was on it. I thought it was blank, a strange aberration in the middle of an otherwise full exhibition. It was only when I moved closer that I started to see them: wavy pencil marks running down the wall in small- to medium-length strokes, like residue from drops of rain. When I stood close, I could see them clearly, their imprecise bends and careful curves conjuring the hands that made them. When I moved back, they became a mass, a barely perceptible pattern interrupting the wall like a field of static. My eyes adjusted to see the marks, and my vision seemed to shift.
So this was what a wall drawing was meant to do.
The piece was Sol LeWitt’s “Wall Drawing #46: Vertical lines, not straight, not touching, uniformly dispersed with maximum density, covering the entire surface of the wall.” LeWitt created it in Paris in 1970, four days after his friend and fellow artist Eva Hesse died in New York from a brain tumor. It was a tribute to her and his first time making a work with “not straight” lines. “I wanted to do something at the time of her death that would be a bond between us, in our work,” he later explained. “So I took something of hers and mine and they worked together well. You may say it was her influence on me.”
This utterly moving story of LeWitt’s homage to Hesse speaks to the power of mutual influence; it should be in all the art history books. Yet, from what I can tell, it’s not. The discussion we hear instead tends to be about LeWitt’s one-way effect on Hesse, how he helped and shaped her work, even in a new documentary about her. Because LeWitt was older and, of course, because he was a man.
“While Hesse’s debts to Minimalism — and specifically LeWitt — are acknowledged in virtually every text on her work, there is scant recognition or analysis of the important ways that her work influenced LeWitt’s, even though he spoke openly about his credit to her,” writes curator Veronica Roberts in the catalogue for Converging Lines: Eva Hesse and Sol LeWitt. The exhibition — which Roberts organized at the Blanton Museum of Art and is now on view at the Cleveland Museum of Art — aims to rectify that, using a concentrated group of artworks to argue just as much for Hesse’s impact on LeWitt as the other way around.
In the first room of the show, we see Hesse and LeWitt working on parallel tracks in the early 1960s, when the two were also becoming close friends. Both were painting at the time, and you can see them similarly grappling with their chosen medium in the wake of Abstract Expressionism. Arrows and bright, colorful forms appear in their works as they probe the possibilities and limitations of the pictorial surface. Then, a striking pairing of LeWitt’s “Double Wall Piece” (1962) and an untitled work by Hesse (1964) crystallizes the divergence of their paths: LeWitt embraces the Minimalist grid, moving into three dimensions and eliminating all colors except black and white in the process; Hesse — who would soon move into three dimensions, too, and strip away most color — nods to the grid by structuring her piece with a border of small rectangles, but uses collage elements and looser, almost figurative forms set on diagonals to interrupt it.
What appears to be a contrast is, in the the second gallery — the show’s strongest — revealed to be a conversation. The centerpieces of the room are Hesse’s “Accession V” (1968), an open-top metal cube with tubes of black rubber threaded through its holes, like the tentacles of an invasive species covering the walls of a cave, and LeWitt’s “3 x 3 x 3” (1965), a neat and spare, almost antiseptic, white-lattice cube whose faces are broken into three rows of three squares each. Seeing how Hesse and LeWitt used the same means — the Minimalist cube — to their own divergent ends is thrilling: she evokes emotion and imperfection through physicality; he pares physicality down to a perfect, cerebral form.
At the far end of the gallery, a case displays LeWitt’s now famous 1965 letter to Hesse, five pages of playful, unrelenting, and truly inspiring encouragement. “You seem the same as always, and being you, hate every minute of it. Don’t! Learn to say ‘fuck you’ to the world once in a while. You have every right to,” he counsels. The letter seems to reinforce the familiar narrative of one-way influence, positioning LeWitt as the sage mentor, but turn around and you encounter a sight line that challenges it: a view straight through LeWitt’s lattice to Hesse’s cube and, beyond that, to the wall containing LeWitt’s first “not straight” lines. This is a visualization of the show’s thesis, an artistic dialogue made clear: we can see, step by step, how the chain of inspiration moves from him to her and back to him. Or, as art historian Lucy Lippard writes in the excellent catalogue, “Influence among artists is never as specific as art historical shorthand makes it out to be. In the case of Hesse and LeWitt the respect was mutual, and with respect comes dialogue.”
If the second gallery represents the point at which Hesse’s and LeWitt’s lines converge, the third demonstrates both artists continuing on their own trajectories after the crossing is done. With her haunting “Washer Table” (1967), as well as a series of delicate drawings, Hesse goes on bending Minimalism from the inside out; with his electric wall drawings of “not straight” lines and the literal burying of one of his cubes, LeWitt continues to use artistic form to impose order on chaos. The chronology of the show’s wall texts is confusing in this regard — the panel in the second room refers to Hesse’s death, but in the third she is alive and working once again. When we move into the fourth and final gallery, however, she has definitively passed away, and we’re left to confront LeWitt’s late work alone, sussing out Hesse’s influence on it.
To me, her impact was most visible in the remarkably un-LeWittian Scribbles drawings, which he made in the last two years of his life (2005–07). For these pieces, LeWitt scribbled his lines together into thick patterns of waves and stripes. The execution is messy; the edges of the forms fray with hectic lines that look like strands of hair that won’t stay put. The accompanying wall text simply notes that “35 years after Eva Hesse’s untimely death, the ‘not straight’ line still resonates,” but the drawings seem to suggest a deeper recognition, some kind of acceptance by LeWitt of the absurdity of life that Hesse knew so well. Influence is never a straight line, and it can be a tricky thing to trace. But the exhibition convincingly leads us and leaves us here — at a place where LeWitt’s drawings are haunted by Hesse’s ghost.
Converging Lines: Eva Hesse and Sol LeWitt continues at the Cleveland Museum of Art (11150 East Boulevard, University Circle, Cleveland) through July 31.
