I GOT A NEW CAR

Everybody meet the new baby that i will never shut up about forever!

This is Clifford the Third, my new 1996 Nissan Pickup!! I probably paid too much for her but given that I live in Massachusetts and she has virtually no rust I’m okay with that lol.

So a brief history of the Nissan Pickup! These trucks were released in the US in 1985 and were sold through 1997, when they were replaced with the Frontier. They were the successor to the beloved Datsun 720, which had been in production since 1979. They are in fact just called the Pickup! They’re colloquially known as the D21 - their chassis code, and the Hardbody, because of the double walled durable construction of the trucks’ bed.

The D21 was available with a couple different engines and drivetrain layouts. Mine is a 4x4 with the KA24 motor (which it shared with the 240SX/Silvia). She’s also a King Cab, meaning she has a slightly elongated wheelbase to allow for two small inwards facing jump seats in the back of the cab. Still a two door though.

AND SHE’S A STICK! She has a 5-speed manual transmission, and it’s the best transmission i’ve ever personally had in a car. She’s my third manual, the other two being a 1999 Toyota Corolla and a 2004 Subaru WRX, both of which were great but the Corolla had a really sloppy gearbox that felt incredibly vague at times, whereas the WRX had a sportier transmission that was pretty unforgiving and stiff. This one is definitive about where each gear is, but also won’t get too jerky or loud if you shift a little early or late.

Nissan Hardbody trucks are known and loved for their durability, versatility, and simplicity. They’re super bare bones but what they do have is built remarkably well and meant to withstand lots of abuse. If they don’t rust and have basic maintenance kept up it’s not uncommon for them to go 300k+ miles with minimal issues. Mine has around 184k miles, high but manageable. She also has a few modifications from the previous owner, namely a straight piped exhaust (no muffler, just one big long aluminum tube), aftermarket bumpers and lights, locking hubs, and a small lift. The guy i bought it from had plans to make it an off-roader but had too many projects and needed to offload one to make space in his driveway.

While many people either take these off-roading or turn them into drift trucks, my plan is to bring her back to mostly stock. I’m in the process of tracking down OEM bumpers and a more typical cat-back (from the catalytic converter back) exhaust system so she’s a little less obnoxiously loud. Since i mostly just need reliable transport more than a toy and she is now my sole car, I want to just make her relatively normal. But I love her a lot and am happy to be able to share!

fucking wild when your dog is approaching 3yo and suddenly a lot of your problems just kinda go away.

#this happened a lot when she was a puppy #we had a problem #and then after a little while it... went away #and then we had new problems and then those went away too #anyway kaija now rides on the elevator no problem #she met and greeted all my colleagues and that was totally fine #she was great at ob class today after an >1 month break #was completely neutral towards the other dogs in class #and she did great with house guests today too - polite greetings and overall lovely manners #(a lot of this stuff she was alright/mostly alright with a year ago as well #but now it's truly nbd)#if this is maturity then holy hell it's amazing #i mean i love puppies and i loved puppy!kaija and teen!kaija and everything in between #but this is amazing

AITA for throwing away my daughter's flowers

My daughter (19f) was sick recently and while she's doing much better, some doctor friends have been checking up on her. Unbeknownst to me they absolutely stuffed her room with strong-smelling flowers yesterday and completely locked all the windows so when i checked in on her around midnight her room basically reeked. I opened the window and threw out all the flowers so she could have some fresh air.

This morning the older doctor told me the flowers were "medicinal" and should have stayed, and the window should have stayed closed as well. He seemed polite enough about it but i heard what sounded like him having a full-blown nervous breakdown through the door. I thought maybe that was just because he's foreign and prone to being overly sensitive but i mentioned the situation to a friend of mine and she thinks i should have at least asked my daughter before throwing out "another woman's flowers". It's not like i trashed precious roses from her fiancee though. AITA?

eta I didn't ask my daughter because she was sleeping the whole time i was in there.

eta2 The "whole time" was maybe forty minutes? Guys i cannot exaggerate how many flowers there were. There were even some TIED AROUND HER NECK and where there weren't flowers it still smelled like flowers, they were so strong. If i didn't know better i'd think the doctor literally just rubbed flowers all over everything. It was ridiculous.

eta3 Yes i took the flowers from around her neck too. No she did not wake up then either, she was sleeping very soundly and i wasn't trying to be disruptive as she's still recovering. to all the people snidely saying they "bet this wasn't the first time [i] acted like the only person who matters in this house and just threw away someone else's belongings" first off i thought she'd be better with fresher air, it wasn't all about me, but even if it was, hello… it is my house… am i not allowed to decide what belongs here?

eta4 I guess i'm not and my daughter should just be allowed to bring in whatever she wants and i'm TA if i do anything about it. You'll all be very happy to know she's getting married soon and moving in with her husband and i guess i'll just spend the time from now until the wedding NEVER TAKING ANYTHING OUT OF HER ROOM because that's the only non-asshole behavior, right?

Back in the earlier months of the qsmp I was a hardcore Jaiden main. That woman got me through a rough spring quarter and while I haven’t been watching her as actively lately I still really treasure the time that I did (condolences to all of the active Jaiden mains out there). I reblogged so many posts about her/animations family/parrot duo that ‘jaiden animations’ is still one of the default tags that pops up for this blog. I have a charm of her cubito on the backpack I use almost everyday.

I 100% support her decision to leave the qsmp. She does so much work already and it sounds like it was very much the best thing to do. And I’ve been watching her for years, so I fully intend to keep watching her other stuff. And after everything that’s happened lately I’m glad the reason is something normal for once 😭
