In hindsight, I can see how tagging roughly 270 people over three days would be seen as suspicious. But I promise you @staff all of them asked to be tagged!

Is anyone else experiencing little to no likes/notes on their posts? I know at least one of my friends are experiencing this on here. My notes have been low for some time now and I don't know if it's because it's not my usual stuff that I'm posting or if it's because I've been banished to the void.

hello friends, i have an update.

as far as i can tell, this blog is still shadow banned. my blog and posts aren’t showing up in search results, i cannot receive / send any direct messages, i don’t believe i can receive asks at this time (update: i can receive asks), and my reach has diminished pretty significantly. i have heard that some other blogs are going through a similar experience as i am, so i’m not sure if this is completely unique to me or not.

i have sent 5+ tickets to support, both from my main and from a burner account i created and i have still not received a response to any of them other than the initial automated responses.

it would not be wise for me to reopen requests at this time, as my blog is so inaccessible to many folks that have wanted to request in the past. therefore, i will be pinning this post to let those who visit my blog of what is happening currently, and why i haven’t been posting new boards often.

i will keep trying to get in contact with support, and i will post an update in the event my blog becomes accessible again.

While these are things that I stand by and I understand how they may be unsavory positions to most people, I will admit, I am far less concerned with convincing you of this, and far MORE concerned if this is a result of censorship.

I love Tumblr because I can have plain conversations about politics. In the past I tried having conversations on Facebook, Youtube, Reddit, and I was shadowbanned (when I wasn't outright banned) just for using keywords that I could see other people using without consequence.

While Tumblr is much less of a megacorporate entity than the likes of those, it is not immune to capitalist enshittification and the increasing stranglehold on discourse via the US government proper, and I anticipated it eventually falling to such depths. We can see this already with the broken new features nobody asked for, the brief attempt to be the next TikTok, the increase in advertising, but I was really hoping outright censorship would be a few more years further down the road.

As we can see with the CEO v. trans folk drama, as we saw with the repressed #freegaza etc. tags soon after Al-Aqsa Flood, as I could see everybody from communists to fascists to all the fringe spaces in between slowly turning into unclickable sunglasses emojis, this was perhaps a foolish dream for me to hold.

It is really a shame knowing that a website that was a haven for those dispossessed by US corporate/federal censorship is already well on the way to just being another AI-generated neoliberal echo chamber panopticon. I suppose things will continue to get much worse before they get better.

Am I shadow banned? Are people just not getting notified? Do people just not want to reply? Is this good or bad thing? Whose replies am I missing? Am I missing any? Is no one interacting with me and I just think I’m missing notifications? Is that good? Does that make being on social media pointless?

I was (likely)shadow banned for tagging fic updates- how to save yourself:

Thanks to a lovely suggestion, I looked into tumblr's new(ish) 'subscribe to the conversation' feature since, by all apparent deduction, tagging people (as requested by them) on fics has gotten me shadow banned.

How subscribing to a conversation works:

On the website, you subscribe by clicking the ... navigation on the upper right of the post and selecting 'subscribe to the conversation'.

On the app, you subscribe by clicking 'notes' on the bottom left of the post and then the bell icon in the upper right.

You will be notified of every reply and reblog with fresh content.

To set this up for replacing tagging:

Create either a side blog or a non linked blog.

In the blog settings, under replies, set it to 'Only members can reply' (website) /'Only Tumblrs you follow can reply'(app).

(I am hoping that the website one becomes the standard as at the moment you will have to ask mutuals not to comment.)

Create an Update post on this side blog that says something such as "Subscribe to this post to be notified of updates to x fic!", a link to the work on the main blog, and any other relevant information.

As you make the Update post, click on the menu icon in the upper right as you are making the post and under 'Who Can Reblog'(website)/'Reblog Control'(app) change it to 'No One'

THIS WILL INCLUDE YOU. (You can change it again by editing the post and going back to the menu.)

You can create as many Update posts as wip you have.

To use this for replacing tagging:

When you want to update your readers there is a new part, edit the Update post to include links to where the update is posted.

Reply on the Update post that there is an update and that the link in the post. "Chapter 5 posted! Find the link in this post!"

Readers can click on the notification to go to the post, then click on the link to go to the new part.

It's a bit of a faff, but once set up it's actually easier than tagging! No list to maintain, no limits, people can manage their own subscriptions. And may save you from being shadow banned like me!

I wanted to make a post about how to help get your blog unshadowbanned! I’ve received a lot of messages over the last day asking what to do! Here’s what helped me after a month of trying to reach support.

Make a burner blog. Not a secondary! Something that will not be connected to the email that your banned blog is attached to.

When making support tickets through the burner blog be sure to include the name of your banned blog in the explanation section and manually change the email at the bottom to the email of the blog currently shadowbanned.

This should get you an email from support! They typically send an automated email once a support ticket has been made! My problem was solved within two days but be weary as it could take up to a week!

Do note that this is what has worked for me a few people who have asked me for help! Luckily it was a glitch on their end so we were sorted out! If you’re shadowbanned for a specific reason I’m not sure if it will work but it’s worth a try!
