Day Eleven: Favorite Fan Fiction/Author

Seth Kate Fandom Celebration 2017 (Saturday, May 20th - Thursday, June 2nd)

There are sooo many that I could point out here, since I write I have a huge appreciation for those that also write. I know the time and effort that it takes and each one of these are so beautiful in their own way.

Inside the Quilt of Your Hand by Duchamp Rating: Explicit Summary: The point is this: Kate knows that no matter how much you love someone, you have to give them the space they need. If they want to be alone, you remove yourself. If they want quiet, despite how much you might want them to share with you, you give them the quiet they crave.

I love EVERYTHING this writer posts. She writes some of the most breathtaking and heartbreaking pieces. This is a personal favorite of mine. It is from Kate’s POV and it hard at moments, it isn’t entirely happy - but it is raw and it is real. The way she describes the love between the characters is simply incredible. She writes another piece: The Mighty - which is more Seth focused and does reference drug use. It is one of my favorite pieces of writing ever.

Burn my Bridges by Openhearts Rating: Teen - Mature Summary: Kate thinks about asking “then what?” and she opens her mouth around the words before closing it again. She leans her head back against the headrest and lets her eyes slip closed. Seth is quiet now, for once, and she isn’t sure whether she’s glad of it or not. Isn’t sure she really wants to feel alone in her head.

So this is a series a three piece series - that if you have not read you NEED to. It is cannon divert and takes place after Season 1. Her Kate is so incredible that I was moved to tears. The moments between Seth and Kate are so hot and so real.There is a compliance to Seth that fits with his self-loathing and a openness to Kate that anchors the three pieces and makes it feel both surreal and honest at the same time. There are so many moments in these three pieces. The quote that haunts me “Show me. The energy, when it’s like clockwork.” The whole series has unique take on what happens after Season 1 and ignores the other two seasons - but trust me... you will not regret reading this series

The Good Left Undone by Imaginedfables Rating: Mature Summary:There's a story where she stays.

Canon divergent, because it’s the story where she stays. He doesn’t abandon her on the side of the road. I honest to god love Seth as a mild-to-complete disaster and Kate holding her own. Love this piece. And all my feels in that 4th chapter. Such a great piece. But really again this author is beyond talented, go read all of her amazing!!!!

Only Proof (That I Need) by Caramelle Rating: Not Rated Summary: The thing is, as long as they're working a job, he has to spend a good three-quarters of his day calling Kate Fuller his wife.… Not that it's a chore, or anything.mBut, ultimately, it's fucking terrible, because he's officially stopped thinking twice before opening his mouth to say the damned words. Or, the one where Seth has trouble disassociating completely from the cover he and Kate employ most — that of Young Newlywed Couple.

Just read it! Just read it. It’s the lightest on on my list. All the fumbling puppy-Seth and Kate knowing exactly what’s up. Also LOVE how Seth is written. He gives great narration (that’s not inuendo ... I swear it’s not). Really again read any of her things. Love them all!!

Okay that’s a lot of words - as normal I cannot do anything in short form. These are all so lovely! Go read the things and show love to these writer that dedicate their time to giving us all the feels!

I saw on another blog you were asking for sethkate fic recommendations. One I've recently found that I didn't see listed on her recs is _stargazing_dreamer who you can find on ao3. How to Train Your Hellhound, Home for the Holidays, and her Sleepless Nights series especially the Glimpses of Geckos story which I re-read chapters of every day. I also really like her Second Chances which is a single dad Seth AU. It's WIP but almost 48,000 words so it's pretty long.

yet another ridiculously long list of fic recs from me, mostly so I can keep all my favorites organized. There are so many amazing and heartbreaking and hot and funny and awesome fics in this fandom though.

This isn’t some film reel. There’s no soundtrack or script to dictate blocking. No action or cut. This is real life and Seth’s flesh and blood and bone and the closest thing she has to a friend. She doesn’t want to ruin that. Not that she could.

last song i listened to: Hit and Run by LOLO Maybe someday when I have way more time I’ll try and make the very weird over the top vid that plays out in my head whenever I hear this song.

currently watching: Still Fringe and Twin Peaks at the moment! And it is a very odd combination, my friends. Enjoyable! but very whiplashy in tone and mood to go back and forth between the two.

currently reading: Finished we are fated to grow old by

waterfront aka @youbecool, a Scott POV fic that pulls zero punches, and really digs into all that mix of anger and love that carries him through the show and beyond. I highly recommend it, it packs so much interesting insight into all the things he was thinking and feeling and believing, both the stuff we saw and the pieces of his journey we missed on screen! And I’m about to reread for the one thousandth time one of my all time favorites: A Lesson In Navigation by @sandalaris (WIP) which is such pitch perfect Kate (and Seth! And SethKate! and Everyone Else) that it makes me just ache. A deep dive into a different path for her in season 2 (with Seth by her side instead of on her own this time around, and her by his) as she grows and learns and adapts to everything life throws at her. I love that it explores how she stands her ground or fights back when pushed, not just the how but also the why, the battles she picks and the ones she lets go and how carefully and deliberately she weighs which is which. And the way she observes and examines and reassess new information and new feelings with such determination be true to both who she was and who is she becoming! 💖💖💖 This fic captures so much of Kate’s heart and her mind for me, her strength and her doubts and fears and beliefs, all the things I love most and find so fascinating about her, and I will always reread it when I miss her. Which is now.

how’s it going: emotional about the Fuller Siblings once again, and SethKate so more of the same 😂 Also wishing I wasn’t so tired by the time the day was done for me, because I want to make so many things right now, and write about 500 metas if I had the energy and ambition to do so. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

50 Questions for Fic Readers - Answers

Taking a break from writing and decided to complete this as a little get-to-know-me. Read if you are interested, if not ignore it.

What fandom(s) do you read? Once Upon a Time, Supernatural x BtVS, Harry Potter, Roswell, BtVS, Black Sails, and From Dusk till Dawn: the Series

If you could request more of a certain type of fic, which would it be? I love Modern AU anything.

What is your favorite all-time fic? For ONCE: The Lost Boys by @niniadepapa. I LOVE that story, it is my go-to read.

Do you ever re-read fics? How about triple-read? Oh yes. Sometimes I get bored and want something I know is good so I re-read.

Do you prefer angst or fluff? Angst. It is also my favorite thing to write.

Do you prefer long fics or short fics? That depends on my mood. I like to always be reading a long fic, but I will pick up short ones to read between updates.

What’s the longest fic you’ve ever read? I couldn’t tell you. I know I have read plenty of BtVS ones back in the day that took WEEKS to finish.

What’s your opinion on reading dubious consent or no consent? I stay away from those. Not a fan.

Name a type of fic you’ll never ever read. Trope wise: anything that gives one character power over another (hence the consent issue) or Teacher/Student (I am a teacher so it is weird).

Name a type of fic that you wish there was more of. I love when fandoms cross. For example: BtVS/SPN or BtVS/HP

Do people know that you read fanfiction? Yep, I know people in my real life as well as people I’ve met through fandom.

Do you leave reviews after reading fics? If so, what do they sound like? Sometimes. Normally I talk about what I like or what I am excited to see in upcoming chapters. I always thank them for taking the time out to write the fic.

When you read a good fic, do you go to the author’s page? Yep.

Name a common type of fic that you cannot stand. I hate fic that is unrealistic. It if doesn’t seem plausible them I don’t like it.

Name all the Work in Progress fics that you are currently reading. Seriously, there are too many. I think actively the rough number would be over 30.

Has a fic ever left you unable to fall asleep or think about anything else? I often stay up late to read fic like that. There have been several fic that ended up giving me life revelations. I remember one fic from the Roswell fandom that forever altered the way I thought about relationships.

Are you good about keeping up when reading Work in Progresses? Normally, I am very good at it. I read it as soon as I get the notification. Recently, I haven’t been so good at it because of work and school.

Name some of your favorite fic recommendations pages. @shady-swan-jones makes great lists for Captain Swan, as well as @timeless-love-story and @loving-cs-fanfiction.

YESSSS im glad you love it!! i need to rewatch s3 tbh… anyway i can’t say I’ve read a lot of sethkate fic. partly bc of the age gap lol i think that may be the reason, i dont particularly like reading explicit fic of them (Yes i know they are now both consenting adults and I’m not shaming anyone who likes reading sethkate smut, it’s just not been my cup of tea)

but i firmly believe @wellamyblake characterizes them so so unerringly well in her drabble series Tales from a Mexican Honeymoon (set between s1 and s2, so if you havent finished s1 you might wanna wait).

Also read @mellamymake‘s drabble Is It Such a Problem? because it’s so IC and entertaining. She has a bunch of sethkate stories on her profile and she is a great writer in general so you really can’t go wrong there, if you want more.

People were interested in me doing a thing like this, so here we go! I figured I’d do a short little blurb about each writer, including one or two of my favorite works by them. So, in no real order (like, I literally randomized the list) here are some of the most talented people* whose art I’ve had the pleasure of reading:

*Please note that some of these people haven’t written for bellarke in a while! That doesn’t mean you should pester them about it! Appreciate the heck out of what they have written instead. Cool? Cool.

1. Maria @rebelprincebell AO3

Maria’s written a good variety of longer and shorter fics, and each of them is excellent. (She’s also an amazing human/friend, but that’s more of a side perk.) She’s currently writing Things We Shouldn’t Do which is what everyone wants out of a multi-chap, fake-dating, actors AU. Or for something shorter, check out T.O.P. S.E.C.R.E.T. for some friends-with-benefits/feelings-reveal goodness. And maybe if she loves me she’ll finish Let’s Go to the Mall but it’s nbd.

2. Steph @ofhobbitsandwomen AO3

I read The Squire (multi-chap, medieval AU) when I was pretty new to the fandom, and I’m still completely in awe of it. Steph’s also written a million other amazing bellarke fics, like this fluffy-af youtubers AU (and, recently, some fucking amazing Jyn/Cassian stuff, if you’re into that) so make sure to check out all of her incredible writing.

3. M @ahmren AO3

M’s writing is magical. At the risk of sounding cliche, it wraps you up and carries you to another world. I could survive on nothing but her collection of soulmate AUs for years to come.

4. Chash @ponyregrets AO3

Chash has written a million and one amazing fics, so obvs read everything she’s written, but one of my particular faves is Some Cheese With That Whine. It gives me all the best-friends-to-lovers feelings. Amazing. Plus she likes all my posts when I’m flailing about ffx <3

5. Katelyn @nathenmiller AO3

Secrets is the only arranged marriage fic you ever need to read. Period. I also love this fluffy lil childhood-friends-meet-up-ten-years-later AU. Plus, on top of all the fantastic writing, K’s one of the incredibly hardworking ladies behind bff. What a girl??

6. Lana @marauders-groupie AO3

Lana’s another one of those writers where I know I’ll like everything she publishes. She’s like, the queen a soulmate AU’s. Her most recent one is here--a cool iteration where you feel whatever pain your soulmate feels. As with all the other authors here, don’t forget to check out all her other stories!

7. Kacka @katchyalater AO3

I discovered Kacka this summer, and her stories saved me from boredom on the countless train rides I was taking across Europe. By which I mean you should just read through everything on her AO3 page, like I did. Everyone loves a good coffee-shop AU, right? Check out Got to Find Those Extra Cups to Fill. She’s a fantastic, inspiring writer and an even lovelier human being.

8. Emily @prosciuttoe AO3

Emily had the nerve to make me cry by posting a canonverse fic, Hold This Heart Steady, today. So do yourself a favor and read that. Other Emily faves include: Your Heart Is Your Own (So Build Me A Home) and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (for all your Hogwarts AU needs).

9. Brianna @jvnscass AO3

Bri’s another one of the authors I first read when I joined the fandom! She doesn’t write much bellarke anymore, but it’s all still up on her AO3 along with a ton of quality Jyn/Cassian fics, if that’s your jam!

10. Nai @hiddenpolkadots AO3

Want canon-verse smut? Nai’s got u covered: Mouth Like Heaven, Kisses Like Stars. Or for something on the fluffier/hurtcomfort side, try the light that sits at the bottom of your chest. You literally can’t go wrong. She writes Jily too!

11. Kayla @kay-emm-gee AO3

Kayla’s the first person I ever considered my “favorite fanfic author” and the title still fits, even if I do have about a million “favorite” authors now. Full Circle is an older, post s2, fic of hers, but it’s undeniably still one of my faves. A more recent fave is: this is your heart (can you feel it). These are both canonverse, but she writes amazing modern AUs as well. <3

12. Meghan @bellamyfrecklefaceblake AO3

I feel like Meghan writes the best epic-feelings-reveal scenes?? Some faves are: A Drunk Mind Speaks A Sober Heart and You Won’t Get Rid of Me Without a Fight. I want to live in the feelings at the end of these fics pls and thx. (Also, hope your hand is doing better!!)

13. Mel @caramelkru AO3

Is it getting old for me to keep saying I like everything insert-name-here writes?? I’d stop, except that it’s TRUE. Mel is fantastic. Her last installment in Good Times Gonna Come is so cute I can’t actually stand it. Something In The Air (That Night) is also super good. (She also writes Sethkate and Jyn/Cassian!)
