cheers to this guest lecturer for nearly giving me a heart attack making me think there was a paper due tomorrow that i hadn’t even heard about so i couldn’t focus the rest of the lecture and like rushed home and opened the site to find there was nothing at all
#when you’re gone for a week and only check your email (which sends notifs when assignments are due in 24 hours) and nothing else#it is not difficult to be convinced that A Big Thing Is Happening That You Didn’t Know About#i already (for shame) had an awkward experience in german class today#the entire class session was spoken entirely in german about a comic we were meant to have read and i only minimally participated#the prof afterwards was like ‘did you manage to follow along ok?’ and i had to tell him yeah i fully understood the conversation#i just didn’t contribute words of my own bc um. i didn’t have any material from which to draw forth words#which is tooooootally on me i could have and should have done the reading while away#he’s been nice and forgiving but i couldn’t teehee my way out of that one#and yet somehow he still was like ‘oh do you want me to postpone your quiz on friday’ SIR you are being way too nice#i completely do not deserve an extension on any of this i ran away to another continent for a week just for funsies#i easily could’ve done the work and studying i just kind of Suck it’s my own fault i should’ve been more responsible#so i told him oh no no i can fully handle doing all this work in the next two days and i’m fully ready to study for this quiz#which like. let’s be real based on what i heard in class today uhhh yeah this should be a cakewalk i am far more skilled than he realizes#i still have to study but like. the last minute grind is what i do best i’m genuinely not concerned and ik good resources if i get stuck#peach rambles#but anyway about this guest lecturer guy. he was talking about meditation and mentioned stuff that might be distracting us#and said something about ‘that paper you have due tomorrow in this class’#twice#which made me FLIP#i guess he was referring to a theoretical paper in a theoretical class?#that might be theoretically causing stress#because we don’t have this class physically tomorrow and there’s nothing open online due tomorrow so there can’t be anything#but like sheesh bro

#personal#the engineering chronicles#this is getting so frustrating there is literally no other time i can attend tutoring for this class except sunday by which point he never#has the assignment posted yet#and the assignment is then due before the next sunday#and i can’t schedule a personal appointment bc they’re not available for this class (or any engineering classes)#i literally just want to ask some clarifying questions my professor actively discourages us from emailing him and i have no idea who our GAs#even are.. i thought for a while it was probably the grader but there’s only one grader and apparently multiple GAs going off of what i#heard a classmate mention#and i don’t KNOW anyone in this class so i can’t even discuss it w them#even if i WERE to email my prof or the grader neither of them ever Answers the emails i send so there’s still no point#and it’s not like im going to Fail this week’s assignment i think i have it down pretty well actually but i don’t want to needlessly lose#easy points when i need all the point i can get :/ i really want to get 100% on this one i can’t remember the last time i got anything#higher than an 85#also these instructions are not clear they say one assignment part per page and then use the spaces provided & dont attach additional pages#and there are two assignment parts on one page of the file that he gave us to print out and write on like. which am i doing then! bc i know#you’re going to deduct like 20 pts if it’s the wrong choice

There's just something about you – Professor!Austin Butler (smut)
Well well well, ofc I {as somebody who has a massive prof!crush} had to give in and write this. I think this has potential for a part 2, so please tell me how you feel about that. Please like and reblog if you enjoyed reading this, your comments keep us writers motivated! Enjoy my loves. xxx
Summary: The reader works as Professor Butler's teaching assistant. The two are about to take a trip with his class when she gets sick. While staying with him for the weekend the two finally give in to the pull keeping them chained together.
Warnings: 18+, smut, piv, oral (f), professor x TA relationship, quite fluffy
Pairing: prof!Austin Butler x fem!TA!reader (3k words)

“Alright, listen up!“ Professor Butler’s voice echoed through the room. His words were followed by instant silence, forcing all eyes towards the handsome professor. She stood close to him, not enough to feel his body heat clashing against her, though just enough to hyperfocus on the scent of his expensive cologne – a scent she’d always pick up on, no matter where she was at.
“As you all know, we’re leaving for our trip next week. (Y/n) was kind enough to take over the bookings, but we need you to find one or two people to share a room with. Please send (y/n) an email til Monday, so we can avoid any confusion when we check in. If you have any further questions about the trip or concerns, feel free to reach out to one of us.”
She had joined the faculty as Professor Butler’s PhD candidate and teaching assistant a while ago, slowly having to adjust to being around a man like him. At first, (y/n) had struggled to focus, fighting against the urge to stare at him at any given chance, but slowly she had gotten more and more relaxed around him, actually getting to enjoy her interactions with the young professor.
“Please don’t forget your homework, alright? I’ll see you all next week.” The room was filled with loud noises as he ended the class, forcing the students to their feet and out into the hallway. (Y/n) busied herself with his notes, rechecking them before she allowed her gaze to find his bright eyes. You did good today, (y/n), if you feel comfortable enough you can gladly do next week’s class on your own.”
“I don’t think I feel ready to do this without you yet.” His big hand found her shoulder, leaving her torn between focusing on the feeling of his thumb softly stroking the fabric of her blouse, and the intense eye contact he now held with her. For a second, neither of them spoke, leaving (y/n) to wonder what he was thinking about.
“Alright, but you’re by far better than me at catching their attention, I hope one day you’ll realise that.” Professor Butler’s raspy chuckle had an addicting effect to it, leaving her to avert her gaze as he took a step away from her. “Chinese takeout while we grade the essays?”
……
She woke with a pained whine as her hand reached for her phone, trying to read the time. It was Saturday morning, two days before they’d go on their short trip, but her body was clearly fighting against all plans, making her suffer from a sore throat and a blocked nose. Curses wanted to claw through her, cursing fate for pushing her into her misery.
(Y/n) had been looking forward to the trip for a while, excited about spending some more time with Professor Butler outside of his office and the room he was teaching in. Secretly she had hoped for some more calmer moments where they could go back to sharing information about one another that had nothing to do with their research or their university work. Hopes that were now evaporating into nothing but cold air.
For a moment, (y/n) pondered over her choices, but her fingers had already started to move before her mind could protest, opening the email app. With a few quick words she sent her professor a small warning, telling him that she was sick and would most likely not be able to join on Monday. She felt pathetic for the wave of hurt and exhaustion flushing through her, leaving her trembling body to search the warmth of her bed.
It didn’t take long for her phone to go off, forcing her glassy eyes to read his reply. Simple words told her to give him a call with his added number to the email. Perhaps it was the fault of her cold, perhaps it was the fault of her hazy thoughts, whatever it was, it stopped (y/n) from overthinking, clicking on the number before her anxiety could get the best of her.
“Morning, (y/n).” His raspy voice shot shudders down her spine, momentarily letting her eyes flutter close. She repeated the greeting while internally cringing at the raspy sound of her voice. “Oh sweetheart, you sound horrible.”
Heat rose to her face at the pet name, having to forcefully stop herself from gasping. She could only let go of a hum, not trusting herself to speak coherent words he could easily pick up on.
“Are you still living alone?” A while ago (y/n) had told him about her struggles to find a roommate, unsure who to pick as she had high priorities she didn’t want to let go of. Once again she hummed, wondering where he was taking this conversation. “Alright, I want you to pack a bag. I’ll pick you up in a few, you’re spending the weekend with me, I can’t go on that trip without you. We’ll get you back to your healthy self in no time.”
“Professor,” she sat up as she tried to protest, having to drown out the sinful thoughts instantly flushing through her mind. “I don’t want to take up any of your space, and you could also get sick. I’ll be alright here, don’t worry.”
“No, you’re staying with me. I won’t accept any protests, (y/n). What’s your address?”
It hadn’t taken long for them to end the call, for her to take a quick shower and to pack a bag. Her heart kept racing in her chest, urging her to move, to be smart about the things she packed. She barely got any time to overthink as he had arrived at her place rather quickly, but now as she was sitting on his couch, wrapped in a blanket, (y/n)’s thoughts finally caught up with her.
Austin – as he had asked her to call him – was all too gentle with her, tending to her every need with worry tugging on his features. (Y/n) could only guess that she looked as horrible as she felt, tired eyes barely managing to stay open, and yet she didn’t want to miss a thing, cherishing the chance to be so close to him.
“How about we watch a movie before I make some soup, huh?” Austin plopped down next to her, tugging on her legs to place them in his lap. (Y/n) allowed herself to study him for a few seconds, his blonde hair had that slightly unruly touch to it, blue eyes focusing on his TV. He wore a simple white shirt that perfectly stuck to his muscles, paired with blue jeans that gave him a different touch to the version of him who always wore suits in class.
“Sure, I’m good with whatever.” He shot her a quick smile that left her trembling, having to calm her racing heart with her grasp on the blanket growing stronger. She barely managed to pay the opening sequence of the movie any attention, getting lost in her thoughts as his thumb stroked the soft skin of her ankle, holding onto her as if he was scared she could slip right through his fingers.
For the first time in years, she felt an unfamiliar kind of safety wrapping itself around her, clinging to her like a second skin made to protect her, to cherish her, to perhaps even love her.
……
Quiet steps carried her towards the big kitchen, engulfed in darkness as (y/n) started the kettle, hoping that another cup of tea could finally lull her to sleep. She was too deep in thought to notice his approaching figure, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed in front of his naked chest.
“You alright, sweetheart?” (Y/n) jumped at the sound of his raspy voice, pressing her hand to her chest as she turned towards him. A laugh clawed through Austin, guiding him closer to her with slow steps. “Sorry, I didn’t want to scare you.”
(Y/n) had to turn from him, trying to focus on the almost boiling water as he came to a halt behind her, reaching for another cup. His naked upper body was pressed against her back, one of his arms found its way around her waist to keep her close to him. Goosebumps covered her limbs, silently whispering to her, guiding her hand to find his.
No words were spoken between the two as she poured the hot water into the big cups while Austin reached for the teabags. He loosened his hold on her as if he was begging her to turn around, to get lost in the bright eyes that reminded her of warm summer mornings spent at the beach, getting lost in daydreams that felt more real than memories of things she had lived through. Her body urged her to move, to lean against the counter with her eyes finding his features, wandering over his handsome face.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours, (y/n)?” She didn’t trust her voice, knowing that she’d most likely make a fool of herself, but the two hands finding her waist, keeping her caged between his tall frame and the counter, encouraged her to part her lips. (Y/n)’s eyes focused on his neck, on the golden necklace he wore, dangling from his neck like a pendulum about to give her a glimpse into her future.
“I,” a shaky exhale left (y/n), trusting her mind and heart to guide her. “I keep thinking about how comfortable I feel here. Thank you for letting me stay with you, Austin.”
She expected him to shoot her his signature smile, to pull away from her to reach for his cup. But he kept close to her, hand slowly moving up to her face, cupping her cold cheek. He forced her to look up at him, making her breath hitch in her chest as she watched his gaze flicker between her eyes and her lips.
“I tried to stay away from you, but you’re not making it easy for me, sweetheart.” (Y/n) got no chance to reply, silenced by the feeling of his lips finding hers. Ever since she had joined his team, (y/n) had imagined this very moment, wondering how his lips would feel pressed against hers, how he’d hold onto her as they got lost in their kiss. But this was so very different to all these daydreams, more intense, more exciting even. With his hands finding the back of her thighs, he helped her onto the counter, allowing himself to stand between her thighs as they kept kissing.
“Now you’re definitely getting sick for sure,” (y/n) mumbled the words against his lips as they parted to catch their breaths. Austin’s raspy laugh echoed through the kitchen, bright eyes burning her skin as if she was caught in a wildfire, about to burn to the ground.
“For you I’ll gladly take on the struggles of being sick.” His words left her heart roaring, lips finding his once again. Their tongues met in a teeth clashing kiss, wordlessly managing to communicate their longing, the desperate need they had fought against these past months. “I need you to be honest with me, do you want this? I don’t want to pressure you, sweetheart.”
“Take me to bed, professor.” (Y/n)’s smirk grew wider as his pupils dilated, picking her up without another warning. She had her legs wrapped around him, face buried in the crook of his neck. Within seconds they found themselves in Austin’s bedroom, he didn’t give her much time to take in the big room, the pictures gracing the walls, fully focused on him as he pressed her down on the mattress.
Austin kissed his way down her throat as if he was following the trail of a treasure hunt, high on the adrenaline of the search. (Y/n) trembled beneath him while her fingers tugged on the hairs at the nape of his neck before moving down to his muscular shoulders. Somehow it felt as if they had done this numerous times before, knowing exactly how and where to touch one another.
He parted from her to pull her shirt over her head, focus instantly drawn to her naked chest. The way Austin was staring at her made (y/n) feel as if he was marvelling at a masterpiece, a creation of old times the human mind barely managed to understand. Carefully he cupped her breasts, groaning at the feeling of her soft skin pressing against his. They held eye contact as he brought his lips back to her skin, sucking on both nipples before kissing his way down her stomach.
“Austin,” (y/n) choked on his name, begging him to keep on moving, to touch her where she needed him the most.
“Talk to me, sweetheart, what do you want?” His voice grew lower with every spoken syllable, pushing heat down to her core. She felt her walls clench around nothing, begging him to finally fuck her.
“You, all of you. Please, I need you so badly.” Without speaking another word, he ripped her panties from her hips, letting his fingers explore her arousal-covered folds. His name rolled off her tongue, she arched her back at the careful touches, trying to shuffle even closer. Austin could do whatever he wanted to her at that very moment, she was putty in his hands, his to toy with, his to use for his own pleasure. Whatever he wanted, she’d do it, if he kept on touching her like this.
“Will you let me taste you? I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.” (Y/n) could only nod her head, letting go of a breathless gasp the second his rough tongue brushed through her folds. Austin moaned at her taste, he wrapped one arm around her thigh, keeping her pressed to him while the other hand found her clit, rubbing the bundle of nerves with his fingers. Within the first seconds of him touching her, (y/n) had known that she wouldn’t be able to hold on for long, overstimulated by his touches.
No longer could she spare her hurting throat any attention, no longer did she struggle to breathe on, all she could do was focus on him, on the way he dipped his tongue into her tightness, how he added more speed to his movements, pushing her closer and closer to the edge.
“You taste so sweet, I could stay like that forever, if you’ll let me.” She moaned at his praise, fingernails scratching at his skin to try and hold on. Her legs were trembling from the strength she used to curl her toes, unsure how much longer she could stop herself from giving in to an intense orgasm.
“It’s alright, cum for me, show me how pretty you look when you cum for me.” Austin’s words pushed her into the open arms of her orgasm, calling out his name as he kept circling her clit with a smirk glued to his lips. He watched her every move, every micro-expression he could pick up on, fully mesmerised by the beautiful woman he had wanted to pull closer for months.
“Oh god,” (y/n) panted the words, drawing gleeful chuckles from Austin as he let go of her. Her glassy eyes watched him undress, gaze wandering down his muscular upper body, past his six-pack to his sweatpants. His cock sprang free as he stepped out of his clothes, a sight that pushed heat straight down to her cunt, needing to feel him buried inside of her. “I need you to fuck me now, I can’t wait any longer, Austin.”
“Mhm, such a desperate girl, we should teach you some patience one day.” He reached for a condom, rolled it down his cock and positioned himself between her thighs. With her hand finding the back of his neck, (y/n) pulled him back down for a kiss, distracting herself from the slight pain as he pushed into her, having to adjust to his size. For a second, they held still, clinging to one another to let go of a few deep exhales, fingers interlaced to try and keep themselves grounded.
“Move, please, professor.” Austin let go of a growl at the use of the title, building a comfortable rhythm that allowed one another to get used to the sensation. He was careful with her, not daring to hurt her when she was still sick, not fully able to guide her body. But the blissful expression tugging on her features was enough to calm his racing heart, finding enjoyment in the way she clung to him, how she seemingly felt the same pull he did.
They were a mess of tangled limbs, of moans blurring together, of hearts beating in sync, a match so perfect neither of them wanted to break out of their very own bubble. Their bodies met with every thrust, bringing them closer and closer together, while their eyes found back together.
“My pretty girl, I don’t want to let you go again.” He murmured the words against her lips, luring a soft chuckle out of (y/n).
“Don’t let me go, don’t you dare.” Her head rolled back as his cock nudged her swollen spot, leaving him grinning in success. Austin kept staring down at her, trying to burn every passing second into his mind, praying that he won’t ever forget about this night.
“Touch yourself, make yourself cum on my cock, sweetheart.” With a gasp leaving her, her fingers found her pulsing clit, moving quickly to give her the needed push. He fucked her through her second orgasm, letting go himself as she relaxed beneath him.
Austin clung to her as they both tried to catch their breaths, only parting as they managed to break through the hazy fog wrapping itself around the two lovers. He threw away the condom before he returned to her, cupping her now warm cheek to pull her in for another kiss.
“How about a bath?” She could only nod as he picked her up and carried her into his bathroom, while making the silent promise to cherish her for as long as she’ll let him.

Google falsely told the police that a father was a molesting his son
Tumblr media
[Correction: An earlier draft of this story misstated a technical detail; Mark didn’t email his photo to his doctor; rather, he took the photo with his phone and the image was automatically synched to his Google Photos account, triggering a scan]
Mark’s toddler had a painful, swollen penis. His wife contacted their doctor, whose nurse asked Mark to send him a picture of the toddler’s penis, because the pandemic was raging and the doctor wasn’t seeing patients in person. Mark’s phone synched the photo to his Google Photos account, and Google’s scanning tools automatically detected the picture of a child’s penis and turned Mark into the SFPD, accusing him of molesting his son.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/21/technology/google-surveillance-toddler-photo.html
Mark and his wife took several pictures of their son’s penis, including one that contained Mark’s hand. The child had a bacterial infection, which was quickly alleviated with antibiotics that the doctor prescribed via telemedicine.
Google refused to listen to Mark’s explanation. Instead, they terminated his account, seizing more than a decade’s worth of personal and business email, cloud files, and calendar entries. He lost all the family photos he’d synched with Google Photos (including all the photos of his toddler from birth, on). He even lost his mobile plan, because he’s a Google Fi user. He lost access to Google Authenticator and couldn’t sign into any of his other online accounts to tell them that he had a new, non-Gmail email address.
Mark received an envelope from the SFPD telling him that Google had contacted the police department, accusing him of producing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and that the company had secretly given the police full access to all of his files and data, including his location and search history, as well as all his photos and videos.
The reason the police had to mail him all this stuff? Google had shut down his phone number and so they couldn’t reach him.
To SFPD’s credit, they’d figured out what was going on and decided Mark wasn’t a child molester. To Google’s shame, they continue to hold all his data hostage — including his address book with the contact info for everyone he is personally or professionally connected to, denying him access to it.
Google says they won’t give Mark his account back because they found another “problematic” image in his files: “a young child lying in bed with an unclothed woman.” Mark doesn’t know which picture they mean (he no longer has access to any of his photos), but he thinks it was probably an intimate photo he captured of his son and wife together in bed one morning (“If only we slept with pajamas on, this all could have been avoided.”).
Writing for the New York Times, Kashimir Hill discusses another, similar case, involving a Houston dad called Cassio, whose doctor asked him to send in photos of his child’s genitals for diagnostic purposes. Like Mark, Cassio was cleared by police, and, like Mark, Cassio is locked out of his Gmail account, along with all the services associated with it.
Hill spoke with my EFF colleague Jon Callas, who criticized Google, saying that private family photos should be a “private sphere” and not subject to routine scanning by algorithms or review by moderators. Google claims that they only scan your photos when you take an “affirmative action” related to them, but this includes automatically uploading your photos to Google Photos, which is the default behavior on Android devices.
Also cited in the article is Kate Klonick, a cyberlaw prof and expert on content moderation. Klonick pointed out that this was “doubly dangerous in that it also results in someone being reported to law enforcement,” suggesting that this could have resulted in a loss of custody if the police had been a little less measured.
Klonick criticized Google for the lack of a “robust process” for handling this kind of automated filter error. Hill describes the “AI” tools Google uses to automatically flag potential CSAM. As is so often the case with automated filtering tools, the flagging takes place in a nanosecond, while the process for questioning its judgment takes months or years, or forever.
Last summer, I called Google and its Big Tech competitors “utilities governed like empires.” The companies deliberately pursued a strategy of becoming indispensable to us, declaring mission statements like “organize all the world’s information” and backing them up with vertical stacks of products designed to capture your whole digital life.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/08/utilities-governed-empires
That is, the tech giants set out to become utilities, as important to your life as your electricity and water — and they succeeded. However, they continue to behave as though they are simply another business, whose commercial imperatives — including the arbitrary cancellation of your services without appeal — are private matters.
Some people say this means we should just turn these companies into actual utilities, but I think that’s the wrong impulse. The problem with (say) Facebook, isn’t merely that Zuck is monumentally unqualified to be the unaccountable self-appointed dictator of three billion peoples’ digital lives. The problem is that no one should have that job. We should abolish that job.
Which is why I’m so interested in interoperability — including a mix of state-imposed interop obligations and protecting interoperators’ self-help measures like reverse-engineering, scraping and bots.
https://www.eff.org/wp/interoperability-and-privacy
That is a path to pluralizing power over the necessities of our lives — use the power of the state to set limits on the conduct of online platforms (say, by passing strong privacy laws with a private right of action), which makes sure that no matter which choice a user makes, they won’t be exploited by online companies. Then use the power of the state to safeguard interoperability, so that users who don’t like the way an online host uses its discretion can easily leave, without surrendering their data or their social connections:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/08/facebooks-secret-war-switching-costs
Rather than entrusting the US government — including its policing and espionage arms — to run our digital lives, and the digital lives of non-Americans around the world whom the US government explicitly disclaims any duty to, we can ask the government to do a much narrower job. We can ask them to prevent companies from harming us, and we can ask them to force companies not to take our data and social connections hostage. That way, we don’t have to ask the government — which might be run by e.g. Ron Desantis in a couple years — to decide which conversations are lawful to have:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/07/right-or-left-you-should-be-worried-about-big-tech-censorship
Instead, we can create our own, community run and community managed online spaces and services.

Hi hi! I’ve been loving your writing and desperately need more please!
Can you do a platonic Larissa weems x student!reader that comes out as transgender non-binary and uses he/they pronouns?
They see her desk has many pride flags with a sign that says ‘all are welcome and protected here’ that’s when they tell her and she couldn’t be more proud of them.
Larissa is seen as a mother figure and so I’d like the fluff of a mother - child relationship. She showers them in motherly love and gives them a little treat to celebrate finding themselves. She even helps reader send out emails to all of their teachers to spread awareness and is sure to be the first to respond to demonstrate the acceptance that should be be coming from each of them.
Changing for the Better
Larissa Weems x Student!Reader
Authors Note: this was sweet. i hope many lgbtq readers can enjoy this fic! also the final quote is literally something a prof told me when i came out to him.
Tumblr media
You were so nervous to come out to Principal Weems. There was always a sign out front of her door that read ‘all are welcome and protected here’ with various pride flags decorating the boarder. You assumed that she would be the person to talk to about this, but it didn't make it any less nerve wracking.
You sat in an armchair in front of her desk when you came out to her. You felt your hands shaking and you couldn't help it when tears stung at your eyes. Her reaction was more than you could have hoped for, "That's incredible. Thank you for telling me."
Principal Weems pushed a bowl of chocolates to you, "Please take one."
As you reached into the bowl, she circled the desk and pulled a second chair closer to you so she could be next to you as she spoke, "I'm so proud of you. It can be so scary being yourself. Thank you again for trusting me so much."
You didn't know exactly what to say to her, "I-I'm not sure what to do next. How do I talk to my teachers?"
"Well you have a few options. All of the teachers have been through weeks worth of training and discussions about helping students such as yourself. However, would you like me to send an email or I could help you send one? Or perhaps we could go to their classrooms and talk to them in person?"
"Email... I'm not ready for in person."
"That's perfectly fine, dear." Principal Weems helped you draft up an email that could be sent to all of your professors. She was extremely serious in crafting the email, checking and double checking every sentence with you. By the end of the email, you were smiling and feeling much more confident about Nevermore accepting you for you, "Ready to send?"
You nod with a smile, "I think so."
Principal Weems sent the email and you felt your phone buzz in your pocket from the new email in your inbox. You began grasping at your backpack strap and Principal Weems stopped you, "Now, before you go, would you like a hug, a chocolate, or both?"
You hesitated for a moment before quietly speaking, "Both..."
She took the bowl from the desk and offered it to you. You plucked a chocolate from the bowl and stood. Principal Weems followed suit and gathered you in her arms, offering you what you felt like was one of the best hugs of your life. When she pulled away, she held you by your arms, looking you dead in the eyes, "Now if you need anything, you come speak to me. I won't tolerate any hate at this school. Pardon my language, but nobody fucks with my students."

time travel in ten - sequential narrative collage piece done for my class, Artifact.
ramblings below the cut for those interested in the process/life update for friends who have noticed i've been gone
right lmao. i had two weeks to do this project and had a completely different idea that i just could not get myself to be excited about. emailed my prof in desperation, but it being like 10 pm meant that she was not about to respond. within 30 minutes, as it goes, i got struck with divine inspiration by whatever force of nature governs procrastination-induced genius, and i promptly spent the next 12 waking hours non-stop working on this.
my class, artifact, is a requirement for the foundation year at the college i attend. it centers around time-based media, ranging from the sequential illustration here to video later in the semester, and a bunch of other projects designed to get us thinking in 4d. artifact is the theme of the class - my peers are doing the same projects under a variety of different themes (tragically, haunting filled up too quickly and i missed out on enrollment in that one).
our first project was designing an artifact and doing a write-up of the story behind it. the girl to my left made beaded spiders members of a fictional cult carried. the guy across from me made an amulet of a long-dead god. you get the vibes. mine, which I still need to take professional photos of, is a pocketwatch that lets you time travel. cause, yknow. i'm me. it was gonna be about time travel.
i had originally intended to do a bunch of drawings of the watch's owner, building out her backstory and the world she lives in, and explaining why the watch exists,,,, then i couldn't bring myself to pick up the stylus. I just can't seem to find the energy for my usual digital art (sorry friends i miss yall i'm still here i swear).
here's the bit about my life so feel free to stop reading if you just care about the art 👍
I haven't drawn fanart or my ocs in months now, since last semester, and I miss it a whole bunch but right now that creative energy just. is not happening. i don't plan on abandoning it forever by any means, but p much everything i have is going towards school right now. sad as that is, i'm having so much fun, and i'm so proud of the technical improvements i've made. I've got so many things i want to create, mostly for my ocs. i still love crit role, but i've fallen of campaign three. i don't have the time, and the story hasn't been engaging me for a bit.
i've been really into dr who lately, and am eagerly waiting for the spare time to sit and watch all of candela obscura. i'm in a new dnd game. i've got friends! real life friends! irl friends who called me the wizard friend within a few hours of knowing me before i even opened my mouth about dnd lmao. i've discovered a new love of collage, and i've just declared my major in something unique to my school, a program called Studio for Interrelated Media. i'll be learning about illustration still through the extra electives i'll have room for, but i also get to explore printmaking in more depth, as well as event planning, installation, curation, and theatre work as well.
i miss being on here a whole bunch and want to be more active when i get more time. don't plan on abandoning this blog by any means. boston has been kind to me, and though i have had some Real Low Points, i've also been living the life i've hoped for since i was a kid. i'm good, really really good.
to my friends, ily, i miss you, and i hope you're well. can't wait to catch up on all yalls art and fic. sending all my love. <3

this trope's got a little kick to it, sleepover event ;
one    intro in celebration of the upcoming new year & the fact that i desperately want to give you all the content you crave, i am hosting an impromptu sleepover event that closes on jan. 1!!!
two    about this event tropes are so fun & i have so many faves. considering the fact that you follow my blog and (im assuming here) that you enjoy my writing, i figured that you all would have similar preferences as me. but, doing "enemies to lovers", "friends to lovers", "oh no there's only one bed", etc. seems too plain and simple. we are doing oddly specific tropes that wttcsms pulled out of her ass and thought "this sounds like a good pairing"
three    how to participate — choose a trope from the list — choose a character from any of these fandoms: hq, bnha, aot, jjk, blue lock, cod — send me an ask with the character & trope, and get ready to receive your drabble x
four    tropes — "i bet on losing dogs" x the losing dog — the closed wound x the bleeding heart — on a road trip with your ex — ghost who needs help passing to the afterlife x reluctant person who does not want to help but is currently cursed and helping this ghost is the only way to lift it — knife to the throat but the blade can't seem to cut this weird sexual tension we've got going on — ex-thief trying to live a straight & narrow life x their original partner who drags them back in for one big heist — getting person a to do something ridiculous because they owe person b a favor — when person a realizes they're in love with person b, but instead of it being cute and generating butterflies, their internal monologue is disgust and shame — person a who thinks person b is in love with them and p.a. tries to actively avoid p.b. because they think they're trying to confess their love, but p.b. keeps trying to get them alone to explain that it's not p.a. they like, but p.a.'s best friend — wrong number, right person — royal who thinks they're picking a safe option as their betrothed x the betrothed who is actually an undercover spy working for the very kingdom that wants to kill the royal — drunken confessions — party game that results in the beginning of a relationship — kissing as a distraction to avoid being caught — the invisible string theory (or: 5 times you almost met each other + the 1 time you do) — sunshine x midnight rain — when the rebound is your ex's brother — grumpy tenured professor x new, sunshine-y associate professor — womanizer x maneater — love story told in untraditional format (ex: voicemails, email exchanges, hinge dms, twitter beef, etc.)
five    current requests — on a road trip with your ex, megumi fushiguro — womanizer x maneater, satoru gojo — grumpy prof x sunshine prof, naoya zenin — when ur royal betrothed is ur backstabber, katsuki bakugo — rebound is ex's brother, eren yeager — sunshine x midnight rain, toji fushiguro — party game, shinsuke kita — kissing as a distraction, levi ackerman — shame over the realization you love him, satoru gojo — knife to the throat, megumi fushiguro — closed wound x bleeding heart, yuuji itadori — when ur royal betrothed is ur backstabber, kento nanami — i bet on losing dogs x the losing dog, kento nanami — wrong number, right person, hajime iwaizumi — i bet on losing dogs x the losing dog, armin arlert — love story told in untraditional format, dabi — when ur royal betrothed is ur backstabber, tooru oikawa — invisible string theory, kiyoomi sakusa — drunken confessions, hiromi higuruma — womanizer x maneater, michael kaiser — closed wound x bleeding heart, simon riley

Good news..... doctors can campaign for the discussion of science!
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has been forced into an about-turn after cancelling a conference on sex and gender.
LGBTQ+ campaigners approached the college to express their concern that it was allowing the Clinical Advisory Network on Sex and Gender (CAN-SG), a group of psychiatrists and doctors who campaign for science-based dialogue on gender issues, to use its conference space.
The event, titled First Do No Harm, aims to explore “current controversies in the care of children and young people with gender-related distress”.
Aware of a situation’
After being contacted by the campaigners, including the Association of LGBTQ+ Doctors & Dentists and Pride RCGP, the college said last week that it was “aware of a situation regarding an upcoming event”.
The college’s events management team, Searcys, later wrote to CAN-SG to inform it that its event had been cancelled. Searcys proposed two alternative venues but said it wasn’t sure “if any of those two medical institutions would hold similar views to the RCGP as far as your event is concerned”.
Dr Louise Irvine, the co-chairman of CAN-SG, said: “I asked why the event was cancelled and the manager said he did not know. He just said that senior people in RCGP had been discussing it all day and then instructed him to contact me to cancel.
“I found out later that on that Friday, there was a well-orchestrated campaign by activists to send numerous emails to RCGP full of false allegations about our conference.”
Tumblr media
Baroness Hayter, a Labour peer, subsequently wrote to the college to warn it that gender-critical beliefs were protected under the Equality Act 2010.
She told The Telegraph: “I’m shocked and disappointed that a medical body – indeed a Royal College – which should promote evidence-based treatment tried to close down debate on an important clinical issue. This is not in patients’ interests. Open, academic discussion is essential if all patients and their carers are to be guaranteed best treatment by their GPs.
“The RCGP needs to explain why it sought to silence certain senior medical practitioners and thus deny their own members the opportunity of hearing current findings on this subject.”
Prof Mike Holmes, the chairman of the trustees for the RCGP, said: “Our initial concern… was that it was being marketed and publicised in a way that could give the impression the college was hosting, sponsoring or supporting the conference and having an active role in the content and programme.”
‘Decided to honour the booking’
The college said that after CAN-GS agreed to remove the college’s name from promotional material, it “decided to honour the booking”.
A spokesman for CAN-SG said: “We are delighted that our conference will go ahead at 30 Euston Square, and we are looking forward to a great event with excellent speakers. All CAN-SG members are clinical professionals who uphold professional standards to provide safe and effective care to all our patients, including our LGBTQ+ patients, to promote long-term well-being.”
A spokesman for the Association of LGBTQ+ Doctors & Dentists said: “The existence and rights of gender-diverse people are not up for debate and the community currently does not feel safe as the result of actions of groups like CAN-SG. This is not about wokery but about decency.”

Any words of wisdom for a very burned-out PhD student who is trying to teach an online class? I feel bad because I put very little thought into my video lectures, and at this point in the spring semester (I'm in the US), I'm basically just fielding emails, grading as fast as I can, and trying to do the bare minimum so I can write my dissertation. But I get discouraged because if I had more mental energy, I could maybe be a better teacher.
It's not like I work 10-hour shifts or something. I sleep a lot? My brain is just overwhelmed, and I'm getting paid $17k for a total of two jobs and working a third to supplement that, I have a hard time finding the motivation to do anything. Especially teaching when I have no support system, no mentorship from older professors, nothing.
I love my research field, so the dissertation still matters to me in spite of the burnout and the low pay. But I try to care about the teaching aspect and just end up feeling guilt that I can't care (other than making sure my students aren't too overwhelmed and turn their work in). Idk. I need a pep talk from someone who survived this. I just wanna research my lil books in peace or teach middle schoolers. I recklessly spent $48 on a sweater because it was cute. help.
Yes. It's going to sound unforgivably flippant and lazy to say 'forgive yourself,' or, worse, 'give yourself grace' (blech, heresy and Christianese, the worst) but... do that. You are being grossly underpaid for a job that is grossly undervalued. And you are still paying attention to your students' education and their well-being. That's enough.
I submitted a dissertation that was sloppy and exhausted because I was sloppy and exhausted from living beneath the poverty line and desperately stringing together tutoring gigs. And my research and I both survived, as did my relationships with my dissertation advisor and the rest of the committee. My other pro tip (such as it is) is to find an Older Professor™ who can provide mentoring. Find, ideally, several. Spread the mentoring around. Even a wise email once in a while can work wonders. And mentors don't have to be that much older, either; I have colleagues whom I met at conferences who are now also invaluable resources for helping me learn about fellowships and sending external support letters to help me combat sexism. Oh, and for venting over coffee. Also apropos mentoring, send an email to one of the profs who helped you fall in love with the field in undergrad; they'll probably send you a nice email back and this will make you feel better.
Anyway, solidarity forever from the bleeding edge of a dismembered discipline. And I'm sure your sweater is very cute.

Any hc on prof!Spencer? Thoughts on anything 🌶🥵 in his office??
PROFESSOR SPENCER REID!!! He gets my gears going. He's so smart and smart is friggin sexy especially when he wears that those dark suits and looks so delicious. I love Soft!Dom Prof Reid as much as the next Reid Girl. But Prof Reid being kinda subby?? Yeah that's hot. Like him being totally obsessed with you. Maybe you're another professor or (my favorite) the librarian for his department and he keeps finding excuses to talk or email, like sending interesting articles, eating lunch other. And it quickly turns into something more fun.
Okay. So making out in his office. He would grow out a little stubble that feels so good against your much softer skin. At this point, you don't really know that he's more of a "you lead, I'll follow" kind of guy, but you tug his hair, leading his mouth closer and closer to yours and grind down hard onto his hips and he whimpers into your mouth. Of course you break apart, completely shocked that that little noise came out of someone so stoic and reserved as Professor Reid. He's embarrassed. And so so so turned on. And of course. That's like the hottest thing.
He'd be so apologetic. Saying like "oh, god I didn't mean to do that. You're just so pretty. And it getting intense for me when my hair is pulled,"
And of course you'd make him admit that he liked when you did that and he'd be putty in your hands. He would look so good with a fresh blush on his cheeks and his tie all undone and his hair completely ruined.
And that sight would totally make you have this urge to see what kind of whimpers he makes when you get on your knees for him. But you'd make sure he knows that just because you're the one on his knees, he's certainly not the one in charge.

A selection of unhinged quotes from my political theory professor:
"Socrates has a tiny ghost in his head telling him when things are wrong. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell him when things are right so he’s just really annoying."
*Brings a 1-liter bottle of sparkling water to every class and drinks the whole thing during lecture.*
“The flood happened because God looked down at earth and said ‘I don’t know what the hell I’m supposed to do with this’, and so he nerfed us again.”
“God comes down and asks ‘Where my people at?’ And Adam and Eve are like ‘We done fucked up’.”
“Any schmuck can match their socks to their shoes but the mark of a true gentleman is matching your socks to your mood.” - said because someone insulted his neon pink socks.
“At that point, everyone else would be dead and it would just be Carl Schmidt waddling around Germany all alone.”
Prof: “Is the Illuminati still a thing with your generation?” Student: “Yeah” Prof: “The number one rule of the Illuminati is toughen the fuck up.”
“You can read Hobbes’ Behemoth if you're like a glutton for punishment or something.”
“The neat thing about soup is that you can start with the same ingredients and end up with a new soup every time.”
“If any of you steal my pies I’m going to assume you’re possessed by a demon... I made a pie yesterday. You have NO IDEA how much fruit goes into one of those fuckers.”
“The great thing about Locke is he’s dead. Once you’re a corpse you can be used for anything.”
“I am the crazy leftist professor your parents warned you about. I will make you read Marx and I will say that racism is bad. Sue me.”
"de Sade would be great at being on the internet. And I do mean that as an insult."
Brought a jar to class and put a dollar in it every time he used the word ‘neoliberal’, said he'd give us the money that goes in at the end of the semester. (we each got 3 bucks, there are 15 people in the class)
"Time is a flat circle and I am but a lonely goldfish cracker."
“By a show of hands, who is hungover today? I’ll go first to make you feel better. I am hungover today, be nice to me."
Starts lecture by writing on the whiteboard: “THE ECONOMY IS STUPID”
“Just to be clear, I’m not saying we should guillotine people who open soap shops on Etsy.”
“People don’t get my Simpsons references anymore. You kids today with your sponge bob and anime.”
“If you need help, please ask for it. The worst thing that happens is I send you a super condescending email and you’re no worse off.”
“You’re a shitty libertarian if you accidentally become a Leninist.”
“Anyone seen one of these modern garbage trucks? It’s sick right?! Pretty fucking cool!” proceeds to do an impression of a garbage truck “Marx would love to drive around a dope robot truck.”
"That’s what makes babies just awful. They don’t understand that they don’t always get what they want."
"For how many of y’all does getting stoned and staring at a wall to ponder morality sound like a great class?"
“I once had a student use the topic 'The only way to commune with the aliens is through nuclear warfare' for this assignment, nothing you write can scare me anymore."
“I'm not going to make you read this. It’s 4 volumes, 2500 pages, and mostly about how linen is produced. Moments of brilliance though.”
“I think we should replace the death penalty with public humiliation. ”
"Crude Freudism will get you 80% of the way there 90% of the time."
"I’m going to throw my uncle under the bus here… Actually, I fucking hated that guy and he’s dead so whatever."
"The best thing you can do for your future happiness is to never think about politics. …I say to a bunch of people enrolled in a 400-level political theory class. Y’alls mental health is fucked I guess."
"God tells you not to do the one Bad Thing and Eve is just so sexy that man has to do the one Bad Thing."
"I haven’t worn a 1950’s bra but I’ve heard they’re very uncomfortable. …Not that I’m opposed, I just don’t have the access and I've been banned from three museums so far."
"Course evaluations are available now y’all. I don’t care what you say about me or the class, but make sure you mention how great my hair is."
"Identity politics can be useful, but I think we’ve probably taken it too far since now we’re at the point where Kid Rock is shotgunning 18 packs of bud light on Twitter as a form of protest."
"We basically live in an aristocracy where you can vote. Sorry to disappoint you if you think Joe Biden is a communist."
"Do you know why we didn’t celebrate international workers day on May first? Because America says fuck you, that’s why."
