ok so i spent spanish class going down a rabbithole instead of doing my work and you bet your ass im going to make a tumblr post abt my findings

Did you know you can use leaves as postcards?

this summer, i spent a week in the florida keys, and while learning about the wildlife there (its very interesting actually!! there are certain types of animals like key deer and vacacoons that came to the keys and evolved to fit the environment. google them, theyre very cute :3) and one of them was the florida seagrape.

the man taking us around the island told us that seagrapes could actually be stamped and mailed by the US postal service, something that i promptly forgot about until spanish class today.

googling seemed like a dead end at first- “leaves as postcards” and “mailing leaves florida” and “stamping and mailing leaf” yielded no results. then i remembered what the plant itself was actually called, and “seagrapes as postcards” pulled up a few stray reddit posts.

the poster learned about it the same way i did, and with the photo evidence, im inclined to believe u/WonderfulKnowledge91.

unfortunately i never got a chance to take a leaf home, and where i live there are no seagrapes for me to test this theory. but if i ever go back to the keys, TRUST i will be mailing myself a leaf, just to see what happens.

After work, I didn’t go to sleep instantly. Instead, I went to the fish market with my brother. And also to the nearby town’s wet market. I saw these sea grapes and bought them. After arriving in our house, I showed them to my mother. She asked why was I rinsing the ��lato”, I said so that I could prepare my salad. Then she said, “didn’t you know they would melt? You should eat that sooner than later.” And of course I didn’t know, why i had to eat them, because after a few minutes in our fridge, they really did start to “melt”

Also, someone made me feel giddy on Instagram today 🥰🩵✨
