You guys, I've been binging season 10 of Hawaii Five-0 because I'm off work sick. But I have a problem. Because the only episode I have left is the finale and I still get so gut wrenchingly disappointed in it that I don't want to watch it. But also, Scott is so good and Alex is so good that I feel I should watch it to honour the hard work they put in to it. Argh!

RIP James Edmund Caan (26 March 1940 – 6 July 2022).  He’s best known for his roles in El Dorado, A Bridge Too Far, Misery, Elf, and his most famous role as  Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.  One of his most acclaimed roles was in the 1971 TV movie Brian's Song.

while I don’t think it’s fair to actors to question them exclusively about shipping content & it can be a topic to tread lightly on, I do love when they’re like actually I have thought about this. james mcavoy saying that “it is a little bit of a mini-tragedy that [prof x] and magneto don't, you know, have sex and become married and become best friends." sean astin saying sam and frodo could have kissed bc it was a long way to mordor. charlie day and burn gorman saying they played their characters in pacific rim as though they had feelings for each other. scott caan saying steve n danny in hawaii five o should date. michael sheen saying aziraphale is in luv w crowley. it’s like oh! u see the vision !

Okay so I have never watched Hawaii Five-O but I saw your tags and you are telling me that they lived out the EO “I'd give you a kidney” promise?
YEAH, THEY SURE DID!!!!!!!! 🤩🥰🥺🥹😭🤧💗💓💞
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Before I go on, I gotta mention that the actual organ in question was a liver and not a kidney, but the fact remains that an organ is an organ all the same!!!
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Anyway...!!
This is a CANONICAL EVENT that took place during part two of the season six finale (officially episode 25)!!!!!!!!!!
I watched that Hawaii Five-0 episode the very first time it aired, back on May 25th, 2016 when I was 17 years old!!!!
It was-and still is!!-an absolutely monumental moment from Danny and Steve's relationship!!!!
Both episodes are completely BONKERS (as most Five-0 finales tended to be!!) and so filled to the brim with chaotic energy.
The thing that is the most important here/with this specific case is that when the doctor came out and said that Steve would need a new liver, all of the other Five-0 team members immediately volunteered, but Danny was the only one who said, "Take me, I KNOW that Steve and I have the same blood type."
So the doctor was all, "Alright, bet!" And began prepping Danny for the surgery!!!
Later at the very end of the episode, we saw the men recovering together in the same hospital room. 🥺🥹😭🤧🤩🥰💞💗💓
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
In conclusion, Danny Williams and Steve McGarrett, aka McDanno are a ship that dreams are made of!!!!!
They have fantastic chemistry with each other, which of course is in part due to their actors, Scott Caan (Danny!) and Alex O'Loughlin (Steve!)!!!
The writers/producers/show runners gave us so much amazing content for them that a large majority of us fans see them as THE canon ship, even though they never kissed. 🥲
This pair constantly told each other "I love you" and were a true, more-than-work-buddies PARTNER to each other all the way through.
Danny and Steve are precious, special, and so (SO!!) important to me!!!!!!!!
The end of the series unfortunately did them so dirty, but I still miss them and their weekly on-screen gay love affair. 🥺😩🤧😔
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Thank you so much for sending me this message, thus letting me talk about one of my most favorite ships-and shows!!-of all time!!!!!!!
I will never be tired of talking about them and how very much in love they were!!!!
They are definitely one of my Forever OTP's and I hope one day, Scott, Alex and the rest of the cast do a mini-reboot of Hawaii Five-0, if only so Danny and Steve can FINALLY get the on-screen closure they very much deserve!!!!!!!!

RIP Alan Arkin
Tumblr media
I just learned Alan Arkin passed away yesterday. He lived a long life (89 years) and had a fantastic career, remaining pretty busy until the end. He is one of few actors I would watch in absolutely anything because he had a tendency to elevate any material he was in. A film could be mediocre, but Arkin certainly never was.
What endears Arkin so much to me? Two things come to mind.
Tumblr media
First, he was incredibly versatile. I know that is a common platitude to give an actor, but Arkin truly disappeared into his roles in the way few actors actually do. It’s hard to believe the panicked, uptight Sheldon Kornplett is played by the same actor as the borderline insane but affectionate Abraham Rodrieguez, or that the delusional intellectual Simon Mendelssohn is the same guy as the lonely and sensitive but guarded John Singer. He did everything to make each character distinct and he succeeded.
Tumblr media
Second, there’s the way Arkin never approached roles the way you would expect. My favorite example of this is in how he played the murderous Harry Roat Jr. in Wait Until Dark. The director and crew expected a typical growling heavy performance (physically sturdier actors George C. Scott and Rod Steiger were originally offered the part), so they were baffled by Arkin’s choice to make the character seem laidback and even goofy at times. But these qualities only serve as a great contrast to the character’s true sadism and aggression. When he unexpectedly pulls a knife on his underlings or shouts at a defiant Audrey Hepburn in rage, you realize all those beatnik vibes were a facade. Arkin’s risktaking resulted in a movie villain for the ages.
Tumblr media
The same applies to The Heart is a Lonely Hunter: most actors might have drenched John Singer in sentimental yearning, but Arkin makes him a bit cold, even with the people he befriends. This doesn’t take away from the character’s compassion for others or his love for his fellow deaf-mute friend-- it only makes him more complicated and his ultimate fate all the more tragic. He’s not a “saintly disabled person” stereotype. He has flaws and the fatal one comes from all the walls he puts up around himself. If Harry Roat Jr. scares the shit out of me, Singer breaks my damn heart.
Tumblr media
I even admire Arkin in movies that were not as wholly successful, or at least are not seen as such. Deadhead Miles is a big favorite of mine, where he plays a mischievous, hilarious criminal who sounds like a Texan Kermit the Frog and steals a big rig. Inspector Clouseau might not be as fabulous as the Pink Panther films with Peter Sellers, but Arkin brought his own unique touches to the character and was not satisfied to simply ape his predecessor in the same role. The Magician of Lublin is a bit of an Oscar-baity drag, but Arkin’s performance as the arrogant but existentially unfulfilled Yasha was great-- he’s unlikable and at times awful, but very, very human. And then there’s that masterclass in bad taste and car crashes, Freebie and the Bean, where Arkin and James Caan were one of the most iconic comedy duos of all time.
Tumblr media
Oh, and how could I forget Bud in The Santa Clause 3? That movie sucks but Arkin’s deadpan “WOWs” when he learns Tim Allen is Santa is so fucking bizarre that I have to at least watch that scene come Christmas time.
I could go on forever (I somehow did not mention Catch-22 and should be ashamed of myself for that-- such an underrated movie and Arkin is the best thing in it), and not just about movies. Arkin was also a singer, musician, children’s book author, theater and film director, memoirist, and teacher. Any biography of the man would be bursting with his creative endeavors. From the interviews I’ve perused, Arkin was truly passionate about his projects and always wanted to push himself.
Dammit, I just love this guy. He was and is a true treasure, and I’m grateful he got to live a long, active life.
Rest in peace and thank you for everything.

Hello! I only occasionally watched H50, but I know that McDanno was a very popular ship. Years ago I remember either seeing or reading about an interview in which one of the actors said that he was open to a McDanno romance, but the network/studio executives said no. I've been scouring the Internet for it (my search history looks ridiculous, LOL) but can't find it or any reference to it. It was buried (at least to me). Does this ring any bells for you??? I SWEAR I didn't make this up!
Hi there! The closest thing I got was at 0:51 of this video, Scott Caan says that, “maybe we (him and Alex) have a relationship… that’s what I would hope for.” Whether he was being serious is up to you, lol! But I always felt that Scott and Alex were always open for their characters to explore that in the show. But it never was an option.
If this rings any bells for anyone else, let me know! I want to get to the bottom of this. And thanks for stopping by, anon. ❤️ Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m sorry I couldn’t think of anything else that was said. :(

Just rewatched one of my favorite buddy comedies, The In-Laws (1979).
Just rewatched my fave buddy comedy, The In-Laws (1979).
In the movie, Peter Falk (aka Columbo) plays Vince Ricardo and Alan Arkin is Sheldon Kornpett. Funny thing is, both actors were Jewish, though only Sheldon is figured as such. Vince (as with Columbo) is meant to be Italian American. Michael Lembeck, who played Vince’s son? Also Jewish.
It’s a pretty common trope in films/tv. Imagine if both fathers were figured as Jewish. What if Columbo was Jewish?
