I have basically no art to post so why not flex my media drawer
#im kind of obsessed with the way that everything fits in perfectly#the inherent eroticism in sliding a dvd out and putting back in so everything is flush#i bought 5 new dvds yesterday and i just have to haphazardly put them on top#also pretty much all of these are second hand save for some more recent movies#i also have 7 cds stuck on my wall because theyre my pride and joys and red flags for people who walk into my room#save me physical media#jake speaks into the void

Y’all I miss physical media so much.
Yeah sure preservation of art and all but also like.
I miss sharing media.
I miss giving my friends video games to borrow that I loved, because a physical disk would immediately play on every system. I miss bringing movies over to friends house for a movie night, because they didn’t have them, or I didn’t have them. I miss renting DVDs. It made sharing a movie an EVENT not just something to have on in the background.
I miss making my friends little mixtapes and burning them CDs of music I think they like. Of songs that make me think of them. I miss being gifted CDs from people who wanted me to share something that meant a lot to them. I have so many songs that make me think of friends and lovers long past, simply because they were the ones who gave me the CD.
I miss when you had to choose an album. When you only had the collection that you had. And your friends all had different collections, different media, different games.
The *SHARING* aspect of physical media, not for the media itself, but for the emotions and connections and community that came with it. The fact that I could hold my dad’s favorite album the day he died. That I could ever so softly put a disk into my car, that was touched by a lover before our young lives drifted apart. (I still have that CD today)
I think we all lost a little bit of our humanity when we stopped being able to give our friends movies and games and CDs, in a physical and tangible way.

got a worm nibbling my brain. can someone help me find a piece of obscure media?
webcomic/indie comic from the 2010s. basically a sci-fi short story about a young girl (with red hair?) who was being raised by scientists as part of an experiment. she receives a haircut/has her head shaved, in preparation for her annual brain scan/testing. it is revealed that while her body is human, her "brain" is artificial, made of computer implants throughout her skull and spine. at some point her biological mother (also a scientist on the same campus?) encounters her and is repulsed, viewing her as a machine who has murdered her daughter.
it was very poignant and it bruised my heart and i can NOT find it anywhere

sometimes looking at like Self Help Strategies lists for the symptoms I'm having is always just like:

hrmm, oh wait, maybe finally- OH, yeah.. okay. thing that I already do but it was just phrased slightly differently

#I think maybe productivity tips help less if the reason you're unproductive is partially like.. physcial health and other extenral things#out of your control. rather than just like having trouble paying attention or spending too much time on tiktok or whatever#all the strategic to do lists in the world are not going to somehow prevent me from waking up with a debilitating migraine or whatever#or having external stressors or lacking resources and connections or other Productivity Essentials etc.#especially many tips involve stuff like 'cut off from social media' since thats the modern day time waster for so many poeple#and it's like.. lol.. i can hardly even maintain a blog even thuogh i actively WANT TO DO SO. 'shut off your smart phone!' already#done babey i fucking hate smart phones i shall never use an app unless i am forced to. 'delete tiktok' yep. already covered. tiktok and#all of those thinsg are my enemies. 'save money by cancelling some of your services' cool. already ahead of you.#who the fuck is out here paying for like 10 different subscription services. pirated videos uploaded to google drive and youtube to mp3#my beloved. etc. etc. and so on. 'socialize less' .........LOL.. if only you knew.. mr.writer of the article. i can barely muster#talking to friends more than once a month and even less if I'm actively sick (often occurence) etc. etc. ... hewoo#I think maybe instead of generic productivity tips I need more like.. how to refocus and be productive anyway even if you have a headache#or are nauseous or etc. Not that those are always things to ignore. and of course you should let your body rest and etc. But plenty of peop#e have mild physical symptoms and just work through them. Ithink something about the way my body/mind is SOO hyper attuned to all#sensory information just makes it like... constantly 'GRR well I cant focus on WRITING right now because my lef#t ear feels weird and my socks are too itchy and my back has a strange pressure and I'm vaguely warm and my eye feels some ssort of#way it doesnt normally feel and I'm hyperaware of my breathing and also nauseous for no reason' and like half of those things I#think '''normal''' people wouldnt even notice or at least would be able to just live through. but for me it's like.. nealry impossible to i#gnore and soooo distracting always. like 'wahh.. nooo we can't draw or get anything done.. my legs feel slightly heavy or something!!'#like............. ok......... who cares. thats not even a PAIN sensation it's just something weird. but it's just like.. NO. constant#mental alerts about the 'heaviness' of your legs be upon ye. Though Imean like.. yes.. 70% of the time I am in genuine pain#or having some sort of actual ailment with trackable physical symptoms. but sometimes it's just like... we could totally be working right#now and ignoring this silly thing but my brain is fixated on it for no reason uncontrollably. etc. etc. I guess it's the same way that like#most people can go to a grocery store without the whole experience being so overwhelming and so much stuff going on at once#that they have to rest afterwards but like.. in my own HOME doing NOTHING i feel like I should be able to not get overwhelmed lol. so I’ve been watching sex and the city and i really like it and im lowkey stressing myself out cause id love to do a SATC themed party for my 30th but we still have a few years but anyways! I feel silly now cause im coming up on the finale and i want to do something special? Like maybe bake a cake, get a good cocktail in a can and just savor the last episode? Idk it really has gotten me through these past few months and i thought it’d be cute to celebrate

when i move out i need to find a good old vhs tape player so bad
#do most tvs still come with vhs tape jacks. if not ill find an older tv too#u cn find these things at used places all the time but i simpy do not have room for any of that right now#i just need this n a record player n a dvd player and im all set i fucking love physical media grahhhh#found my cloudy w a chance of meatballs 2 (got for bday one year) dvd holder the other day and even tho the dvd is no longer with us#i kept the packadging for memories sake#AND AND AND i cant wait to have enough privacy i can buy whatever books and comics i want without my familys judgement#theyre crazy#but im feeling positive. i Am capable of moving out and living on my own its whats gonna save me#theres a lot of good things 2 come with the scaries of it all too. so i will survive for joy

Team Star is kinda fun, but I'm not very good at it
But Crystal is pretty easy and oddly engrossing considering there's no timer or anything? Like you just go around digging, you can only break through 3 big rocks and you can't double back.
I also wanted to share a sampling of the other games my new My Arcade/Go Gamer offers, including Brother Ball (aka Why Do They Look Like Bootleg Electrode?), Animal Rescue (feat. the weirdest looking snail I've ever seen), and such stellar & thought-provoking titles as Girl.

watching this blog come together is kind of wild
like I would actually perish at this point if it disappeared bc I've put so much work into it
#i can very confidently say that i have never really understood what it meant to “feel like myself again”#i killed off so many worse versions of myself i thought there was nothing left#but truly#i am writing again; and have found so much passion in an art i used to indulge in constantly#im making art that i actually enjoy and dont think is complete shit because of my inability to conquer traditional media the way i want to#I FUCKING COSPLAY WITH MY PARTNER#and indulge in anime/manga pretty consistently#that is something i used to get made fun of for by someone who was supposed to be a parent#it took me a very long time to not feel stupid in cosplay#sometimes i still do#but IM DOING IT!!!#even if its not amazing#or i look like shit#or my art looks like shit#or my writing is shit#at least im fucking DOING something#pushing towards goals#practicing#every step i take is a step in the direction i want to be in#i am enough#i am allowed to take up space#ive seriously got this#theres nothing to be scared of anymore#the only thing that i continue to struggle with is my own mental and physical illness#but i am learning and adapting more and more every day#IM FORGETTING HOW TO HATE MYSELF I SAVED MY OWN LIFE#yapping
