Kyuubi | Nine-tails | Kurama Appreciation Post

Apparently, I have a thing for feral Naruto, who gains his animalistic traits from being Kurama's vessel; snarky remarks from Kyuubi; them working together; or Kurama being on his own discovering what it means to be human.

Some of these fics are very popular, but I post them mostly to digitalize my reading diary<3.

A Cage, a Bargain, and Vengence by GoldenEyesObsession(@goldeneyedkim) Konoha has cost Sasuke everything--his clan, childhood, and brother. To pay them back, he searches out a figure of legend: The vessel of the Nine-Tails, the creature that nearly once destroyed Konoha in its early days, and the one responsible for the destruction of Uzushio. If anyone will help him level the village, surely the Nine Tails' vessel will. And if he demands a price, Sasuke will gladly pay it. - Naruto is feared for being the vessel of Ninetails and thus was locked up for decades; he has animalistic traits, is nearly immortal and chooses Sasuke as his reward for destroying Konoha. This fanfic has fantastic storytelling, character description and... well, smut. It is NaruSasu only. I don't get why there is such a small amount of Kudos. No Better Matchmaker by SasuNarufan13 Than a millenium old demon fox. Kurama takes up the distasteful task of being a matchmaker for his Jinchuuriki, because clearly Naruto has no taste whatsoever in romantic partners. Honestly, the things he suffers through for the kit! - This is so funny, fluffy and sweet. Kurama is in denial that sns is a thing. I just love their interactions so much. Kurama's still getting the hang of this 'human' thing, but given that he's 30 years back in time with catastrophes to prevent and a blond brat to save, he'll have to figure things out on the fly. Luckily, living with Naruto's been good for his ability to improvise, if nothing else. - Main paring is Kurama/Kakashi. This has sns in the background, but mainly it is a time-travel fix-it with Kurama being sent back in time in Naruto's body. It is one of the best time travel and must-read in Naruto's fanfiction. Interaction between Kurama and small Naruto is way too sweet and foxes!!! I LOVE your Sakura AU, thank you so much for making it 🥹

Even though her ending is supposed to be “good”, I always thought that canon didn’t do her justice and threw any character development she had out of the window so she can be with Sasuke

I SO wanted her to finally move on and just let go

And I don’t have anything against Sasusaku

But I think it’d be much more beautiful if Sakura long let go of her feelings by the time Sasuke came to his senses and they developed their relationship TOGETHER from the START

And, once again, your work is AMAZING and I can’t wait for next pieces ❤️

Btw, can I ask a question?) Will we see Naruto’s and Sasuke’s reaction to her condition (maybe flashback to before she left the village?), if not, can you please tell me a bit about it? I can’t imagine them to ignore her after the incident, especially considering that they are at fault as usual

Thank you so much for the kind words! I've also never been a fan of how Sakura ended up. I have no beef with SasuSaku, but my biggest issue was that we never saw Sasuke try to make up/connect with Sakura in the same way we saw him do with Naruto, so their romance in Boruto just felt so...abrupt?

As for what happens to Sakura and her friends....

Sasuke was essentially put on probation/jailed, but broke out and defected to Otogakure as canon. This devastates Sakura, as she's both in deep denial about his contribution to her injuries and also the fact that she basically threw herself in there for nothing. Kakashi shuts down completely. It's a nightmare replay of his own past, including the female team-mate being horrifically injured by the chidori. The guilt of everything is eating him alive so he basically withdraws into himself and uses her demotion to civilian status as a way to trick himself into thinking that if he just 'rips off the bandaid' and cut ties, she'll be able to move on more easily.

Naruto is the only person who is really able/willing to face justice. After the incident, he was basically also put on probation/awaiting trial but busted himself out to join Jiraya.

So for context, Sakura got clapped hard by the Rasengan/Chidori combo (hearing gone, nerve damage, eyes shot etc) and basically had to be put in a coma to try and stop the damage from getting worse, but unfortunately none of the medics in Konoha had the ability to reverse anything but the most superficial damage. So Naruto joined Jiraya in an attempt to find and bring the only person in the world who could give Sakura a sliver of hope.

I felt like this worked well with canon and the desperation to get Tsunade to be hokage and Naruto basically begged her on his hands and knees to help Sakura. Tsunade made it there in the nick of time managed to save everything but her eyes.

But Sakura's life has fallen apart, her career is over, her parents dead from Konoha Crush and her eyes gone...and Naruto is the most convenient and available person to take out all her rage on, so...while he deserves a lot of that rage..she is essentially punching down on who she perceives to be the cause of all her problems.

Lee is in the same boat as her, but while he tries very hard to be there for her, Sakura can't stand to be with him right now, as it just makes the reality of life hit that much worse- especially when she finds out there's a surgery that might give him a better chance than she'll ever have.

And Ino visits often at first, but then it's awkward...and painful as the weeks go by. They have lunch and gossip but at some point, there's not much a shinobi and civilian have in common, especially after the shortage of manpower post Konoha-crush has Ino entrenched in the shinobi life more than ever before.

I hope this answered some stuff! Thank you so much for the questions and the interest! I love Sakura and I just wanna give her the development and power she deserves!!

So I read something on LiveJournal about flirting and sex in japan from a forginers POV for fanfic reasons, and found something that made me think about Hinata Hyuga.

So first I should post something for context

"and mostly, if you are Japanese and you like someone, you embark on a series of subtle, indirect stealth manoeuvres, because liking prohibits action, especially for women, but also for men.

Why is this the case? Japanese social interaction is all about intuiting the other person’s wishes without discussing them openly, at the same time that they are intuiting your wishes without discussing them openly, so that although nothing is ever verbalised, the two of you will always exist in a compromise position of equilibrium. If you like someone, that intuitive part goes into overdrive, because you should be able to understand everything about that person without them ever telling you, and you should be able to please them without ever asking how, even more than you would with a normal person. So it’s more important than ever to be indirect."

Negotiating through a third party, is more relevent to final fantasy 8 and Squall and Riona's romance, which I might table and come back to sometime in the future. Hinatas too introverted to use that method effectively anyways.

So to get to the point.

"Subtle signals

- Shyness. Pronounced shyness is form of flirting, since it’s a sign of liking, especially from girls, but also from guys. She interacts with everyone else more than him, she doesn’t sit next to him, she doesn’t talk much to him, she doesn’t initiate anything with him. - Attentiveness. You make life easier for the other person without being asked to. For example, when you got to a restaurant in Japan it’s normal to share food, so flirting means not ordering what you like, but ordering what s/he likes, which you already know without asking, because you’re observant. Stuff like that.- Eye contact. It’s the opposite to the west, where you gaze deeply into someone’s eyes if you like them. Direct eye contact is a bit rude in Japan at the best of times. If you’re flirting you look down and away a lot.- Indirect compliments. I can’t think of a good example. It’s pretty rare to give direct compliments and even more rare to compliment someone’s looks. (It’s especially rare for guys to compliment girls directly.)"

So by that standard Hinata might be trying hard to flirt with Naruto, but their love languages are different cultures. And by that I mean Naruto is a social outcast and orphan who starts the series pranking people to get attention in his life that he otherwise lacks, would not pick up on Hinata's crush this way, and in contrast Hinata was raised to be the future leader of a nobel clan- regardless of her temperment- and so is taught these rules of indirect flirting.

Sex surprised me even more, more about that under the gif

"The biggest difference is that sex in Japan is not a mutual sharing experience with both partners spontaneously doing whatever they feel like or enjoy whenever they feel like doing it. Sex has rules and sex has roles just as every social interaction in Japan has rules and roles. There is an active partner and a passive partner. Active means moving; passive means unmoving. In heterosexual sex, the active partner is always male, and the passive partner is always female. In gay sex you work out your roles beforehand: the seme is active, the uke is passive (for gay guys); the tachi is active, the neko is passive (for gay women). If you are familiar with seme/uke conventions from yaoi manga, you can use them as a way of relating to what I’m talking about, because those conventions are not a fictional construct, randomly decided upon by a group of yaoi mangaka. Straight people have sex like that too, in reality.

So there is an active partner and a passive partner, which causes various flow on effects. You can’t have “Whoo-hoo! Go for it!” sex because both partners are constrained by their roles. The passive partner (obviously) because she can’t move, and the active partner because he has to take care of the passive partner, instructing her on what to do and exerting himself so that she has a good time.

I also can’t emphasise enough just how passive the passive partner is. The way a woman kisses is by submissively opening her mouth, not moving her tongue unless she is cued to do so; if she’s really feminine she won’t open her mouth at all, until she’s told to. Sometimes women will move around a (very) little during sex, but mostly not at all. "

And I'm thinking ' I thought the Seme/Uke thing was some kind of story narrative trend, like ABO is today. I had no idea that was a real way people had sex. '

That sure was a culture shock. Am glad someone talked about it on the internet as thats one of those unspoken culture things people get unconfortable talking about, and would probably be hard to find out even if I knew how to read or speak Japanese.

Finding it really hard to picture some of the ships I ship with one of the parties being unresponsive durring sex, particularly ships involving Rivals like Sasuke and Naruto, or Joker and Akechi (it is hard to be in the P5 fandom without finding at least one Akeshu fic you like).

Also important in Japan, is showers. That is the signal for someone asking you if you want to have sex with them.

"Shower is important. You should shower directly before and after you have sex. Before is more important than after. This makes me sound like I only ever dated people with OCD, but it’s the norm"

Not having a shower before is considered gross (even if you had one before you came to visit)

To end it off on a paraphrased quote from one of the writers boyfriends

"Seiji told me much later that dating me made him feel like he was gay, because I was active in bed, and he couldn’t connect that with anything except masculinity."

Last thing to keep in mind, this thing was posted years ago, I do not know what modern Japanese dating culture is up to, but it does shead some light on Japanese media I grew up around such as Naruto, and offer new insight to parts of it I didn't pick up on the significance of.

Such as for instance, final fantasy VIII features (among other things) a Japanese romance, and this offers insight into cultural differences of romance that I had no idea about.

“You’ve seen the world,” Sarada tells me one day.

It’s one of those rare, ordinary summers when missions are few and far in between and a lazy calm tempers the fiery movements of the village. This is how I find myself enjoying a whole watermelon with my daughter, and nothing but pauses in between eating to dodge her pointed observations.

I want to tell her, My feet may have roamed earths, but my axis orbits here—with you, with Sakura. But that would be a tad too cheesy, and she would grimace and hide her laughter. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

“Not the whole of it,” is my attempt at the truth.

“Then you’ve probably seen all sorts of seasons.” She straightens her back, braces, and spit the seeds in wildfire sequence.

(“It’s not a katon jutsu.” Itachi’s scolding went like this when I did the same thing, seemingly a lifetime ago.)

“I guess.”

“Tell me about them Papa.”

I don’t tell her how she will carve those experiences for herself, or how she will also leave the village for an entirely different reason, or where she will find her corner of peace in this universe. Instead, I tell her about the blizzards that last for weeks that a village is forced to hibernate. I describe autumn as the mountain’s annual metamorphosis when it follows the many shades of the sun. Summer is unlike the watermelon they devoured; it is of sea creatures congregating on the shore in a homecoming. Spring, spring is the gigantic flowers blooming in crevices no one dares to discover, their scent as the sole indicator of their existence.

“I think about winters and the snow angels I haven’t seen you make. The pumpkin spice latte a random stall offers when it's fall—”

“—but there are no pumpkins in Konoha, Papa!”

“Yes, peanut.” I smirk at her. “And yet your Mama is a sucker for them. They’re a bit too sweet for me.”

“And weird.”

“Spring is picnics—” A shadow falls on Sarada’s face, and my guilt for sporadic departures clutches at me like a sudden attack. “—and petals on sandwiches.” And pink hair splayed across the sheets.

“Summer here is so hot,” she zeroes in Konoha’s shortfall. “Literally the land of fire.”

“You’re right.” I find myself mirroring her stance earlier, a straight back, a compressed chest, and a long exhale as I spit out the seeds. “Summer is this—you, me, and watermelons.”

Sarada stiffens, probably in embarrassment, and upon realization that we’re on our porch, waiting for Sakura to arrive, she breaks into uncontained laughter.

You see, my daughter, I may have seen all the seasons, but it’s the weather at home that I miss.

Okay, since it seems nobody asked yet, I’m too curious now. Couple game: Sasuke and Sakura. On my end, gave it a fair shot, then dropped it before Shippuden ended (did not like what it did to Sakura’s self-respect). The fandom just made it worse for me😑.

I need a “fanon made it tolerable” option. I, fortunately, ran into more of their tame shippers and ex shippers

No disrespect intended; I still dislike how canon handled it at every turn (for both characters) when they are the only canon ship of their generation that was on the same team, meaning there was more opportunities to make it make sense and work without the need for light novels or friend/sensei interventions.

Then for the distance and lack of communication to continue into the next series?? When he can basically teleport!? Makes me wonder why they even bothered making them canon 💀
