I see people be like "If Sarek don't like the human side of Spock why he had a half human child in the first place?" or "Why Amanda shames Spock for his vulcan part when she herself in love with a vulcan?"
My siblings in Christ you had parents don't you know how they be????
Of course both Sarek and Amanda love each other in spite of their differences because they understand that they're fundamentally different people! They both understand that they can not fully understand each other and they can find a beauty in this because they're different people! They made peace about the matters that other will never understand because their cultures fundamentally different because they're different people!!!!!
And Spock is their child and I'm sorry to be the person to tell you this but a lot of parents find it difficult to view their children as a separate from them person. A lot of parents projecting themselves onto their children! Literally! And most of the time it's absolutely unhealthy yet still it happens! Amanda bore Spock under her hear for nine month and Sarek has familial bond with him, Spock for them is literally the continuation of their selves!!! And they can express love to the traits of their partner because it's a diffrent person, but I think both Amanda and Sarek are terrified at thought of losing the human/vulcan qualities of themselves! Because it would imply literally losing their selves.
Neither Amanda nor Sarek had gone through a proper separation with their child and they do not see him as a person of his own so of course they're not happy to see him expressing human/vulcan part because it's like seeing your hand turn into a claw and maybe I love crabs but I don't want to be one! And he is in some sense a version of themselves that they're afraid of.
And it's sad! And it's bad! And I hope they would appreciate him more for who he is!
But at the same time - it's absolutely clear to me why they act the way they do
(especially when you remember that Sarek didn't speak to Spock for 18 years because Spock didn't continue his legacy... I mean he literally almost disowned his child for not being his own replica)

Just watched TOS's episode Journey to Babel and there was a moment that had me giggling.
Around 5 minutes in, when Jim is giving Sarek a tour and Spock is not-so-inconspicuously sulking in the foreground with Amanda, Sarek says 'My wife, attend.' which we can presume is a Vulcan thing, probably a nice and polite way of reminding others who your mate is without all of the pre-Surak stabby-ness.
And then not even ten seconds later, when Spock turns to leave, Jim turns to him and says 'Mr. Spock, a moment if you please?'
And I can't help but see the little parallel. Its like Kirk felt the need to also show the room who his boyfriend is but copying Sarek, who Kirk only learned two minutes ago was Spock's dad, would have been a bit too cheeky. First meeting with the in-laws and all that.
Plus Jim calls Spock over to explain the Enterprise's computers which Sarek does not need to know about. Almost as if Jim had to come up with a reason on the spot to explain away why he just called Spock over like Sarek did with Amanda.
Double plus, Sarek and Amanda are Vulcan kissing the entire agonising trip Spock takes to walk over to Jim. Like, not a light brush of the fingers, those babies are firmly pressed and not budging. And they don't stop until Sarek has insulted Spock and sent him away. Its more a makeout session than a kiss.
So, anyway, Jim calls Spock over both because he's maybe a little intimidated by Sarek and wants his best friend/boyfriend to support him and also because, no matter the species, men behave similarly when it comes to certain things like mates and Jim was not about to be shown up on his own ship.

"At the time it seemed the logical thing to do."
A scruffy little sketch of young Amanda and Sarek on the sands of Vulcan, because I adore their little love story.

I will never get tired of Vulcans quietly going to extremes to perform acts of service and devotion for the people they care about

idea for your vulcan/human ships: vulcan partner doesn't need as much sleep as their human. they wake hours before their partner does, readying for their morning meditation. they come back to their bedroom to find the human sprawled out on the bed. they've kicked the covers off, a leg hanging off the edge of the bed. the vulcan makes sure they don't fall out, tucking their limbs back in place. the human shivers at a chill breeze flowing through the room. the vulcan makes sure their partner is covered, bringing the blanket up to their chin. they watch as the human smiles in their sleep, sensing a wave of contentment and love flow through their bond.

Have only just started watching Discovery and am so enamored of these two, and whatever is said about Discovery in general aside, this might be the most compelling portrayal of these two in Trek. This version of Amanda in particular is outstanding.

A Sarek/Amanda headcanon that has consumed my whole brain <3
Sarek proposed to Amanda while he was drunk on Valentine's Day chocolates that Amanda had given him. Just two days after they met. And she didn't have a crush on him- it was just because she didn't like the chocolates. Sarek spent the next two years trying to marry Amanda, because he very logically decided within the first 10 minutes of meeting her that living without her would be just SO unbearable, and that the most logical course of action would be to marry her<3

I'm reading The Vulcan Academy Murders rn and OH MY.... it's so good. I want to do a (really bad) review when I'm done because it's so subtly spirk-y.
Although my favorite thing about it so far has to be the Sarek POV sections, where he just loves his wife so much. It's adorable. Illogical, one might even say. There is also a romance storyline between another Vulcan x Human, and I'm going crazy with the parallels to Spock and Jim. Like, actually help.
And don't even get me started on how Jim is always thinking about Spock when he's going on "dates." MY MAN. MY MAIN STARSHIP MAN. YOU ARE A BLIND FOOL.
But until then, enjoy this little snippet (more to come😌).
