Part 2 of year Six in Obliviate

Ominis X MC

Summary: Remington Conwyn has come to Hogwarts and he is not looking to make friends.

Warnings: kind of angst?

As professor Black gives his beginning of the year speech your eyes are Fixed upon Remington Conwyn sat at the head table with the same sour expression he had upon your first meeting. The strong urge to pull faces at the Ministry Man fills you, and you have to bite down hard on your bottom lip to quell the laughter. Noticing your merth Sebastian nudges you with questioning eyes.

“The sour-faced round man is the one I met with a couple of days ago.”

“Looks like Saint Nick's cross brother.” Sebastian remarks.

“Why is he here?” Ominous interjects in a hushed tone.

“Not to make friends I'll tell you that.” You giggle. A stern look from your house's prefect quiets the three of you. As the Headmaster ends his monologue you inwardly thank him for his ability to keep things short and sweet. You had skipped lunch in preparation for the feast and were eager to eat. Just as you are about to start in on your plate which is piled full of all of your favorite things to eat, Professor Weastly places a hand on your back.

“A word?” Shoulders drooping dejectedly you push your plate back standing to follow the professor.

“Do not let Sebastian touch my food.” Is your parting instructions to Ominis before, following the professor out of the Great hall. Weastly leads you into the reception hall and turns, speaking in a hushed tone.

“As I am sure you have noticed, Mr. Conwyn will be joining us for the foreseeable future. He is here with the express purpose of keeping an eye on you. There are those in the Ministry who believe you to be a dangerous unknown. They remain ignorant of your ability to wield ancient magic and I suggest that we keep it that way.” The professors words take you a second to digest. Giving the woman a funny look you reply,

“Are you saying I should not tell an authority figure of my secret power?” Rolling her eyes at you Professor Weastly sighs,

“I know you are use to keeping this secret but be warned MC. This man is out to get you. To what end I am not entirely sure, however he seems determined to put you in Azkaban one way or another.”

“You can not be serious professor. I haven't done anything wrong!” Protesting you back away slightly, the words sending a wave of fear through your body.

“I know you have not done anything wrong, which is why I am here now. I will do everything in my power to keep you from this, however you have to protect yourself as well; stop giving that cross man reasons to hate you.” Ruffly you shrug acknowledging you have not set yourself up for success with this one.

“I know this will be almost impossible for you, but keep your head down and stay out of trouble this semester. Do you think you can manage that?”

“I will try my best, professor.” She gives you a stern look.

“I am sorry. I mean yes.” The woman raises an eyebrow at you.

“For your own sake I do hope you heed my words. Now, back to your friends. I am sure your absence has been missed.” You turn to leave eager to get back to your food before you stop and say,

“Thank you. For having my back.” She smiles at you and gives you a shooing motion. As she watches you go the woman sighs,

“That girl will be the death of me I swear.”

Back in the Great Hall Sebastian are locked in an intense argument.

“I heard you Sebastian!” Ominis accuses,

“You heard nothing, Ominis mind your own business!”

“You have absolutely zero respect for other property!”

“You are just being a twat because you snogged her and now you think you can ruin all of my fun!” Sebastian sulks. Imeldia chokes on her drink at this assertion.

“Who did Ominis snog?” She demands. Face flushing Ominis snaps,

“You will shut your mouth Sebastian and you shouldn’t listen to other people’s conversations Imelda.” Taking your seat next to a flustered Ominis you glare at Sebastian,

“You have until the count of three to return my plate before I transform you into the that toad you are.”

“Let’s not go insulting toads now, my toad is a very respectable fellow.” Laughing at Ominis objection you begin your countdown.

“1…2…”

“Fine, fine! Don’t go psychopathic on me.” Sebastian pulls your plate from under the table.

“Who did Ominis kiss?” Imelda demands. A deep blush creeps across your cheeks which does not go unnoticed by your Scottish friend.

“Ohhh,” she waggles her eyebrows at you. “Summer love I see.”

"Are you up for a little role playing?" 💋

Ezra’s arms slid around him and Remington could see his knuckles whiten as he gripped the wooden divider in front of him, trapping him in the space between the railing and Ezra’s body. The fingers of one of Ezra’s hands laced tightly through his as he moved in closer against him, fitting along his gentle curves like the edges of a puzzle. Remington’s heart thumped hard in his chest, and he worked to keep his focus on the studious looking woman speaking to their group in heavily accented English about the rise of Protestantism in Europe in the 16th century, and how it affected the largely Catholic France. He flicked his eyes up at the stained glass Saints that seemed to glare down their two dimensional noses at him from their high windows, as the fingertips of Ezra’s other hand slid unseen along his belt buckle. The heavy incense on the air was making him feel a little light headed.

Remington dragged his eyes back to their guide in an attempt to pay attention; though she might as well have just continued the tour in French, for all that he was comprehending. Ezra’s fingertips brushed lightly south of his belt buckle, so gently that all he felt were tingles against the fabric of his jeans.

After a moment, Remington turned his head over his shoulder and whispered, “If there’s a quiz at the end of this tour, we’re so fucked.” Ezra laughed against his t-shirt, and the silky, low sound of it made something uncurl and stretch luxuriously deep down inside Remington’s belly. He felt the tension release along his spine as his body loosened and relaxed back against Ezra’s hard chest and hips.

The tour group began to move away and Remington tried to follow, though couldn’t because Ezra didn’t lower his arm to let him go. He tightened his fingers on Remington’s and gripped the railing of the wooden partition harder. Remington looked back over his shoulder at him.

“Hang back a minute,” Ezra murmured to him, resting his chin onto his shoulder as he watched the rest of the group walk away to the next stop in the tour.

It was fairly late in the afternoon; theirs had been the last tour of the day, so there were no other groups behind them. As the last few people shuffled away following their guide, Remington and Ezra were alone in the huge, empty cathedral. Ezra nodded his head over at the ornate wooden stalls in the back right of the raised pulpit. There was a sign in front of them proclaiming in curly script that the confessionals were closed for the day, to open again at 9 am the following morning. Remington laughed under his breath as Ezra pushed against him from behind and kissed his shoulder.

“Are you up for a little role playing?” Ezra asked him quietly. Remington turned his face to him, smiling.

“What did you have in mind?” he asked. Ezra pushed his sunglasses up onto his head as he moved them against the railing closer to the confessionals on the right side. He began to kiss his way up the curve of Remington’s neck.

“I was thinking…I could be the Sinner and you could be the Priest?”

Review:

Ready or Not meets The Bachelor with a dash of Ace of Spades in this story about a Black teen who will do anything to get her Ivy League acceptance back, even enter an elite competition against other girls, the only problem? No one told her it was literally a life or death game and these girls are out for blood. Adina Walker has had to work for everything she got but it was all taken away in a moment of rage where she fought another student and then all her acceptances to colleges were rescinded... but now she has a plan: seduce a Remington to secure her spot in the prestigious Remington Games which state that all you have to do is beat three events and the winner will gain money and power to their hearts content, and that means she can get back into her Ivy League school. Adina doesn't realize that Pierce Remington, the boy she nearly sleeps with has ulterior motives for getting her into the games, even when his girlfriend is already another player in the game and knows what Adina did. But when bodies start dropping and Adina realizes that all the other contestants are willing to kill for the prize and that the real prize is being married off to a Remington boy she needs allies and if that means seducing the other Remington boy, Graham, the failure of the family, then there's nothing she won't do to survive. Along for the ride is Saint: (the girl who stole MY heart) a girl who only came to the games to network and get her family's business another partner and is the only true friend Adina has, Esme: the girl who got Adina expelled and was her ex-best friend until their fight and who hates Adina but needs this competition to help her family escape the embezzlement issues, Hawthorne: Esme's best friend who is quiet but will do anything for Esme because she's in love with her (I loved Hawthorne's story so much), and Penthesilea: the girl groomed to become the next Remington wife, Pierce's girlfriend, and the one who seems calm. I have to say I absolutely adored Saint, Hawthorne, and Penthesilea so much, like these were girls after my own heart. Hawthorne's toxic but insane love for Esme?? Give me that book please. Saint was a real one, seriously what I wouldn't have given for Saint or Penthesilea to be the love interest for Adina rather than the bland Remington boys, seriously such wasted potential, because you can only imagine HOW GREAT OF A STORY THAT WOULD BE. Penthesilea, truly one of the most interesting characters of the entire book, she was seething with anger and I was happy she got her say in the end. Overall its a really fun read that keeps you interested until the end!

Cavill’s double loss a possible road to 007?

Henry Cavill’s announcement on Instagram that he’d been let go as Superman due to DC’s plans to do a reboot of the character - only two months after he announced he was coming back - has a very familiar ring to it.

That’s because much the same happened to Pierce Brosnan back around 2004 or 2005 when he was widely expected to return for a 5th and final Bond film. Instead, he was dismissed from the role due to EON Productions having recently (after 50 years) obtained the film rights to the first Bond novel, Casino Royale, which was seen as an opportunity to do a reboot of the character and show his origin story - for which a younger actor was needed.

Reportedly, much the same is planned now for Superman. For Cavill, this must hurt given he recently walked away from playing Geralt of Rivia in the Witcher TV series in part due to plans for him to return as Superman. Liam Hemsworth (brother of Chris) has been past as Geralt for Season 4 and beyond, assuming the Witcher isn’t cancelled in the meantime (the blowback on Cavill’s departure has been intense).

So what does this mean for Henry Cavill? Ironically, it could open the door for him to throw his hat into the ring to play the next James Bond. He’s been considered a contender for the part ever since his days on The Tudors, but his film and TV commitments have often been cited as reasons why he hasn’t really been in the running. (Much like Roger Moore was initially disqualified back in 1962 because he was starring in The Saint, and when NBC unexpectedly renewed Remington Steele it cost Pierce Brosnan the role of Bond the first time around. Between Superman and Witcher, Cavill was usually dismissed as a potential Bond because of being committed to the shows and you can’t have the current Bond also being the current Superman, etc. Now, however, his dance card is suddenly empty.

Casting the popular actor as a revived Bond wouldn’t be a bad idea. I know he already played a spy in Man from UNCLE, but come on - the guy was born to play 007.

Their Viscious Games🗡

Now ain't this some medieval ass shit? First off, the book really reminded me of the movie The Hunt because...well that's essentially what it is. But I love a good ole plot twist and I LOVE games so naturally...I liked this book too. You know how you see a movie so good it's the first movie you recommend for like damn near a year? That'll be me with this book. My poor girlfriend had to listen to me explain the entire lore of the book and if you've read my previous reviews, I can be a little all over the place.

Now it does have a bit of a slow start. But baby if you think this is just some shit about a black girl at a predominantely white private school, THINK AGAIN. Personally though, I am kinda over the 'only black girl around white people' trope like WE GEEEEEET IIIIIIIT!!! And even though without it, the layer of racial tension is gone but the classism, however, is not. I get that Adina (the main character) is supposed to stick out more because she's black (I haven't forgotten that Saint is there, she is Asian) but it's just so tired. Sometimes a girl reads a book to escape the racial tension in her real life. And The Remingtons are worth billions of dollars. They are already terrible people so they did not NEED to be white, right along with everyone else. I also get that the point is Adina is feeling like she needs to fit into this certain box. I know all of this but please. We have to find a different way to do it.

All of that being said, it's still a mad interesting book. The Ride, The Raid, The Royale. Imma let y'all figure out what that menas because again, I'm not here to tell you what the book is about. But I am saying its worth the read if you love a plot twist, and terrible people getting exactly what they deserve.

And well hell, you know what they say. You have to work twice as hard to get half as much.

Déjà Who, All Over Again The vast majority of encounters in the realm the Tour calls ‘Who Not Who!’ are truly cases of serendipity, chancing upon Doctor Who actors often quite far away temporally and spiritually from their time on Doctor Who. But there are exceptions, as there always must be, to this violable rule. The late 60s saw programs such as ‘The Saint’ and ‘The Avengers’ and even ‘The Prisoner’ on US TV schedules. Another window appeared in the mid-80’s where cross-pollination between both sides of the pond, where British actors take their shot in sunny California or American productions decamp for Britain. Years ago we wrote about Tom Baker turning up on ‘Remington Steele’ as a baddie. But the Tour Honchos also have seen the reverse coming at them for quite some time, to when Peter Davison appeared in Magnum P.I, Within 18 months of wrapping his time in the TARDIS, Davison had a prominent role of the Season 6 opener ‘Deja Vu’ as a Higgins protégé Ian MacKerras. But this is Davison in ‘Tristan’ mode, all wide-eyed and inexperienced to the point of naïveté. Still it’s always a treat when these things come to pass. As an added treat, Geoffrey Beevers from The Keeper of Traken appeared as a Coroner. Pamela Salem from The Robots of Death and Remembrance of the Daleks as a femme fatale and Julian Glover from The Crusades and City of Death as, shockingly, a bad guy, also appeared. The long, winding road surely can’t keep finding Doctor Who people outside of Doctor Who much longer … can they?
