Hello!! Coming to visit your blog from ao3 lol - I love the way you write Bond and Q!! As for distractions I personally love trying to create a playlist for characters - specifically what they would listen to! Bond I think would publicly be a person who listens to blues and jazz but secretly enjoys American 70s type beats. The first time ABBA appears on one of Q’s curated mission playlists on the Aston Martin for him he’s torn between being known (horrible and slightly terrifying) and being known (feeling so so loved). Q on the other hand is one of those people whose all over the place music wise. One time Moneypenny caught him falling asleep to soft Spanish love songs (a la Rosana or Soraya) in his office. Another time the entirety of Q-Branch got blazingly drunk to the dulcet beats™️ of his dua lipa and megan thee stallion playlist. He argues with Mallory over which classical maestro is the best, and has a favorite opera. But I bet his favorite genre right now is Motown - because slow dancing with Bond in their kitchen to Al Green is slowly becoming one of his favorite activities.

Omg I love all of these headcanons. Especially that Motown/soul one about them dancing in the kitchen. Also, Bond being an ABBA man ties in so flawlessly with Pierce Brosnan being a Mamma Mia man that it feels like it should be canon!

I have a playlist I’m working on (and absolutely overthinking) for Bond and Q that I’m hoping to get out soon. I think it’ll form part of my project for this year’s 007 Fest (a big fandom event in July).

I saw your Fic Line Guessing game so here we go:

There’s something about that thought, the thought of sending Bond away smelling of sex — smelling of him — that makes Q dizzy. At the same time, the illicit thrill of it makes him nauseous. It’s unkind of him, but Bond was right. He’s always been too kind where he ought not to be.

With a quick smile, Q puts down his glass and lays his hands in his lap, suddenly quite overcome with the madness of the situation and all the things he’s come here for tonight. He and Bond hardly know each other, really.

“I love you. God, I love you so much, you infuriating, anachronistic relic.”

My choices here are entirely self-indulgent

I struggled over answering this! I wanted to say that Q is a secret flier (i.e. risk-taker), but really, how secret is that? Between being in cahoots with Bond from day one and testing experimental tech in the field, I think people know he is.

So I'll say his warmth. It's unexpected to most people. Even to Q himself. Maybe he grew up thinking he didn't like people very much, but that became "except this person, and this person" and then eventually there were a few many people he got on with to say he hated people.

I think he tried to be cold and arrogant for all of five minutes in his job, but as soon as he saw the horrors the agents dealt with, he let it go.

And I think his warmth leads to people putting their trust in him, telling him things they wouldn't otherwise tell a soul. By the end of his first year on the job, he's a hoarder of guns, tech and the secrets of secret keepers.

I'm going to throw the rest open to everyone else (though maybe I'll come back to Bond later on! I have plenty of thoughts I need to wrangle about him).

Fic Line Guessing Game

A distraction! I've been wanting to start watching the Slow Horses TV adaptation and I'm posing this question to you since I know you enjoy it, is there anything to keep in mind as someone who has no prior exposure to it? (I know there are books but I haven't read any of them)

The short answer:

I went in unprepared aside from knowing Gary Oldman was in it, and I had a blast. In general, I think if you like the world (and fanfic) of Bond you'll like Slow Horses a lot. It shows the full spectrum of working for a secret government service: the darkness, the lightness, the paperwork, the intensity and the idiocy. If you like found family dynamics, you'll love it. In many ways, it is the anti-James Bond franchise, but that's why I enjoyed it. Everyone is so dumb. They're doing their worst. It's fantastic.

I'm not sure if you're asking about trigger/content warnings, but I will mention a few under the cut. As with Bond, there are some less savoury parts to the series, but on balance, I think something like London Spy is way more intense and hard to watch. Slow Horses is partly silly romp, and partly an unexpectedly moving action show.

The fatphobia (which really bothered me in the books for how rampant and unexpected it was) isn't nearly as bad in the TV show. But Gary Oldman's character is a bit of a visual gag, especially at the start (he's a lazy, washed up bastard - that's his whole thing).

There is some entertainment of white flag operations and conspiracy theories in S1. I think the show strikes the balance well when it comes to portraying those things tbh, but I know it is a point of criticism sometimes.

The only other thing I'd keep in mind is that during the first season, some of the more violent scenes are very intense. There are one or two pretty bloody/gnarly scenes, both of which involve an axe, but IMO it's not protracted beyond what the viewer needs to see to understand the story. I don't know how spoilery you want me to get, so I'll leave it there for now and if you have any other questions, just ask!

A distraction for you! Will you tell me about a fluffy/hurt-comfort 00Q concept you would like to write, or wish someone would write for you?

I think I’ve talked about this before, but because of tumblr’s hot garbage fire search function, I can’t find it.

Anyway, I really want to write a fic (maybe as part of the black dog series) that sees Q signed off from work with stress/burnout/depression that’s exacerbated by a terrible incident. And either Bond’s been away or he’s just come back post-Spectre, but he can’t find Q at the office and no one will tell him where he is.

So obviously, like the stray cat he is, he goes to Q’s house and finds him in the depths of a depressive episode. And he just stays. Partly because he doesn’t have a flat anymore, but mostly because Q’s house is a mess, he hasn’t been eating, and he’s one more bout of insomnia away from burning down the house during an experiment.

I really want to explore Bond’s kindness. We see glimpses of it in canon, but he’s never been allowed to be kind for very long. And I’m also keen to explore how caring for Q will help him with his own demons. After all, extending grace and kindness to others is often the first step to finding it for ourselves.

Would 1000% love to write this but it’s a very personal topic for me and I am too tired to exorcise my own demons at the moment!!!
