Summary:
From where he’s gesturing in the middle of the group, Chimney is still deep-down into his half-baked explanations.
“So, see, my parents already love Buck, and Albert too, so obviously it’ll make sense that he takes my name—”
“Wait wait wait,” says Hen, raising her drink toward her best friend. “If you go this way, he can take my name too!”
Karen muffles a giggle before nodding gleefully. “Yeah! You already have one of them, leave us the other!”
Buck seriously has no idea how their usual hang-out at Bobby and Athena’s ended in a — what, a custody battle?"
OR: Buck is doing some thinking, the firefam is trying to help (or not), and there's some feelings, too.
Oh yeah my favorite part of Better Call Saul is when they say “oh look it’s Better Call Saul” and everybody’s like “oh yeah that IS Better Call Saul” and then they all chant “Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul.” How about you?
Something something "we don't cross the glass doors" something something about the entire core unit of the 118 crossing the glass doors with Buck in the center of them.
Also this episode proves to me that Buck (deep down) knew the kind of impact he had on Eddie and Christopher’s life. It also tells me Buck doesn’t fully believe the Diaz parents wouldn’t try to take Chris away if they could. That Chris needs both of his parents to fight for him, and what’s best for him, protecting him.
And Christopher asking Buck to help him find his dad. Bear with me because my mind is all over the place, but I interpreted that line 2 different ways.
1.) the literal meaning in needing Buck’s help to find Eddie. There was a stark lack of Eddie in Buck’s dream and I’m beginning to think that was purposeful. Y’all, Buck’s coma dream was not meant to be something he wanted to stay in in the end. Everything was off, everything was wrong. Including the fact that Eddie was not there. A reminder that in the dream, each ‘character’ talking to Buck IS Buck, including Christopher. So Chris asking Buck to help him find his dad, is Buck’s own subconscious seeking out Eddie and understanding that he needs to leave, because he doesn’t want to live in a world without Eddie. Without Eddie and Christopher together with him.
And 2.) another subtextual meaning of Chris asking Buck to help him find his dad. I choose to also hear that as Chris wanting to find Buck. I’m not sure if Buck FULLY understands his place as Chris’s other father. This line almost felt like Buck’s subconscious trying to tell him something. That Chris is looking for Buck, wanting Buck, needing Buck as his father just as much as he needs Eddie. And Buck needs to find that understanding in himself. To be more concise: Chris is not just looking for Eddie, but he’s looking for his dad, Buck, too.
Kim is the one person who knows that Saul Goodman’s gone, and the guy who's left is Jimmy McGill. I think she's the one person who really gets that, and you can see it when he walks in the door.
Peter Gould, Vanity Fair.
They're not doing any kind of presentation to each other. They're being together, fully. I love it. I love it so much!
They've just been restless, restless characters ... And now we're seeing a guy at peace with the choices he's made, with who he is and he's got love. He's got love for the rest of his life. He's got her.
Bob Odenkirk, EW.
As soon as we started rehearsing it, I was very affected by this dynamic where it felt like Jimmy was trying to make sure Kim was okay, with how worried she is for him, how scared she is for him, how sad she is for him, how hard it's to see him there, how hard it is to leave him there.
Even with him helping her light the cigarette, he's trying to tell her that he's okay now.
