"Kenny told me to come visit you more often. I'm sorry but trying to cover up digimon crimes takes most of my time."
He’s not covering up anything though… It’s just that sometimes he messes with the Chosen Children’s business in order to protect Ken. Without letting Ken know though.
"Sooo... Howdy?"

What “Osamu lives AU” is most appealing to you?
Ken was still infected with a Dark Seed, which still awakens even without Oikawa’s interference, and Osamu can’t get any adults around him to take his concerns over the sudden changes to Ken’s personality seriously.
Ken wasn’t able to push Ryo out of the way in time, and Ryo gets infected with a Dark Seed and becomes the Kaiser instead. Osamu is still salty over Ken getting to run off to the Digital World (the Japanese version implies that Osamu recognized the Digivice and was disappointed over not being chosen, and a there’s a memorial book that attributes him exploding at Ken to jealousy) and only concedes Ken’s Digivice when some situation forces him to. They do eventually repair their relationship though and protect the worlds from Kaiser Ryo.
Osamu is shown the canon future and avoids his death, and tries to prevent Ken from becoming the Kaiser by being more supportive, etc. However, it turns out neither Ken nor Ryo were infected, but Demon got his hands on a host-less Dark Seed that was blowing around the desert and infected someone else with it (either an OC or canon character), causing someone close to them to take Osamu’s place as the sacrifice (part of my various headcanons) and turning Osamu’s character arc into dealing with survivor guilt.
Similar to the above, except nobody got infected with a Dark Seed. The central conflict is around finding the stray Dark Seeds and preventing Demon, VamDemon, etc from infecting anyone. Osamu’s character arc is about dealing with uncertainty, setbacks, failures, etc. that being labeled “gifted” has taught him to fear/find intolerable.
Any AU where Osamu is alive is good 😉 I think out of your suggestions I like 1 and 2 best. I like the angst that goes with number 2’s Osamu being jealous of Ken and Ken being jealous of Osamu until they finally reconcile! And number 1 is very appealing because of how Osamu is desperately trying to get help for Ken (who really, really needs it).
3 – I gotta admit I like the concept of being shown the future and trying to prevent it in some way. Since you mentioned a sacrifice, do you think Osamu’s death may have been no accident and deliberately orchestrated to push Ken over the edge?
As an addition to 3, I also like versions where Ken is somehow transported back into the past but with his knowledge of the car crash and tries everything to prevent it from happening, while everyone else is confused as to why 8-year-old Kenny is almost hysterically refusing to go have icecream with his older brother…
4 works as well, of course, but I find 1-3 more interesting, possibly because you’ve said more about them and so they feel more grounded 😊

That's a lot of thought you put into these 😭
If the picks are from your list then I'd go for #4! It sounds the most interesting!!
I remember typing up a quick Osamu lives au that I'm still personally the most into (pairing him up w a Dokunemon)

I love 2 the most. I just generally love explorations of “what if this other character got infected with the Dark Spore instead”? And there’s a lot of potential for some good character exploration with Ken and Osamu, as well as seeing what an Evil!Ryo might look like and having Ryo deal with the guilt afterwards, and Ken deal with his friend having been turned like that.

Spike Chunsoft has released new information and screenshots of Zanki Zero: Last Beginning further introducing four of the game’s eight main characters—Haruto Higurashi, Ryo Mikajime, Rinko Susukino, and Yuma Mashiro—as well as the game’s ruins, creatures, and more.
Get the details below.
■ Characters
Haruto Higurashi (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga) – Editor of Sloth
Tumblr media
Editor at the industry-leading publisher Mashiro Shuppan. 25 years old. After a certain something pushes him over the edge emotionally, he heads for the rooftop, but—when he wakes up after, it was in a world where humanity had fallen.
Haruto is a diligent leader, but to that extent lacks flexibility. He is the last to wake up among the eight people on Gareki Island, and Extend TV declares that his awakening completes the last survivors of humanity. He likes spicy foods and dislikes sweets.
Tumblr media
Ryo Mikajime (voiced by Toshihiko Seki) – Artist of Envy
Tumblr media
A young and upcoming bondage artist who makes artwork that binds together people and objects. 25 years old. As he cannot afford to make a living off his artistic activities alone, he also works as a cameraman to get by.
Bondage is and always will be his style of art, and he only sees the things he binds as sexual “once in a while.” He is cheerful, sociable, and quick to open his heart to anyone he meets. He can also be unexpectedly cowardly, and at first has a negative attitude towards exploring the danger-filled ruins.
Tumblr media
Rinko Susukino (voiced by Haruka Yoshimura) – Florist of Lust
Tumblr media
A lovely woman who works for her parents’ flower shop. 25 years old. She is a hard worker with a very helpful and kind personality, but is also a bit of an airhead. When she awakens on the island, she is unable to deal with the sudden change of the conditions around her and seems to be stricken with considerable panic.
Due to the nature of her work, she knows flowers and their language very well, and judges Ryo Mikajime to be a “Cactus-like person.” She believes that she and the others are part of a television reality show, and goes into the ruins, but…?
Tumblr media
Yuma Mashiro (voiced by Ayana Taketatsu) – Heiress of Gluttony
Tumblr media
The only daughter of the leader of the world-famous enterprise known as Mashiro Group. 25 years old. She is an elusive character with a cool attitude, who does things at her own pace and does not often show emotion. Since she is from one of the wealthiest families in the country, her behavior is somewhat other-worldly.
At any rate, she is obsessed with eating and maintaining style. When the topic of food comes up during conversation, she has a habit of eating fantasy “air meals.”
Tumblr media
■ Explore the Ruins to Reveal the Pasts of the Eight Main Characters
The eight main characters are cloned humans who can only live for 13 days, but can regenerate any number of times through the “Extend” system. You will have to explore dangerous ruins while dealing with both the problems of gathering parts to complete the “Extend Machine,” through which it is possible to free the clones from their restricted life spans, and earning the amount of Score required to be able to “Extend” before they reach the end of their life span. Here, we will introduce the connection between the ruins and main characters, as well as the dangers of the ruins that go beyond wild animals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gimmicks: The Eight Characters Must Be Alive to Open the “Zanki Hatch”
In the ruins, there will sometimes be a thick steel gate known as a “Zanki Hatch.” In order to open this gate and progress, all eight characters must be alive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every chapter has plenty of ruins, which are remnants of buildings that were used in everyday life, such as commercial facilities. But it seems unnatural for gates like the Zanki Hatch to have been installed before the world was destroyed.
Zanki Zero: Last Beginning has a variety of gimmicks beyond the Zanki Hatch, including pressure-sensitive switches and small holes that only children can fit through.
Every Ruin Has a Common Feature
At first glance, the ruins that appear in each chapter, which include station buildings and tree-house style leisure facilities, do not appear to be connected. However, the ruins actually have a common feature. That is, “among the eight main characters, there is a major connection to someone’s past.”
Tumblr media
Learn the Pasts of the Eight Main Characters through the Ruins
In Zanki Zero: Last Beginning, the character that the player takes the perspective of changes for every chapter, and the ruins you explore are also connected to that character. In these ruins that are deeply connected to the characters, like if they once worked at an office, the incidents and traumas they experienced in the past will come to light.
The first chapter unfolds from Haruto’s perspective and plays out from there. He will explore the ruins of the “Mashiro Garden Tower,” which is the station building where Mashiro Shuppan, his former place of employment, was located.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Memories of the Ruins” Recorded in Mysterious “Capture Videos”
Within the ruins are several old televisions like the one in the garage on Gareki Island, which broadcast the same “Extend TV” station as the one in the garage. Depicted on the televisions are episodes of Extend TV in which Sho discovers a mysterious video tape (VHS) and checks it out with Mirai. According to Mirai, these tape are “Capture Videos,” and are “meant to be used to understand the memories associated with the ruins and clear it.”
The first Capture Video, which is questionably titled “Laziness #1: The First…,” shows Haruto as a new employee at Mashiro Shuppan, but how can it be used to clear the ruins as it is intended to be used? And what kind of memories are recorded in the second volume and so on?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Monstrous Creatures will Attack the Survivors
When the main characters discover the figures of humans in the ruins, they express happiness in there being other survivors besides themselves. However, what stands before them is not human, they are monsters with the appearance of humans…
Tumblr media
According to Extend TV, these monsters are called “creatures” and are natural enemies to humanity, as they are dangerous beings who mean to take lives of the main characters. Also, Mirai says that “‘creatures’ are the ‘shadow’ of what humanity once was…”
Tumblr media
Some Creatures can even speak. Are they really a shadow of what humanity once was?
Tumblr media
Mirai says that creatures are not only aiming for the lives of the main characters, they are also aiming for the “Cross-Key.” However, the reason they are aiming for the Cross-Key is unclear.
Tumblr media
—Cross Key
The Cross-Key is a cross-shaped metal part attached to the navel of all eight main characters. It preserves all the information, experiences, and memories of the clones.
Due to the information recorded by the Cross-Key, the clones preserve their original personalities no matter how many times they die. In other words, in order to create clones with the Extend Machine, that character’s Cross-Key is required.
In terms of the game system, when a character dies, their Cross-Key is automatically collected. You can rest assured that you will not lose it or forget to collect it. Also, since Mirai is actually a cloned sheep, even she has a Cross-Key attached to her left ear.

SNAP :  for one muse to yell at or push the other out of frustration.
@indentedheartner
Tumblr media
"You shouldn't yell at me, it's not my fault you lose some of your minions. It wasn't me, Kenny."
Ryo was being honest. He did not mess up with Ken's plans. Well, not much. As some hero of justice he was acting a bit... softly around the Digital World's menace. Mostly because he believed Ken soon or later would come to realize the digimon had no fault for what happened to them.
At least not all of the digimon or Digital World's entities. If there was one culprit it was Millenniummon. But... Ryo did not hear anything about their previous menace for a long time, so he assumed that digimon finally got beaten and destroyed by the same explosion which sent him out of the universe and made him wander through space-time for almost two years (?) (Ryo himself has no idea how long he spent stuck there, and without memories...)
Ryo frowned, "Maybe it was one of those good guys you mentioned before?"

Crossover AU: Part Two: Come on Down!!
Taichi blinked a couple of times, just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. What he saw made no sense. In front of him were gigantic, inflated spheres, and behind him was part of an obstacle course. “Now Taichi seems dazed and confused, and is burning through too much time!” “Yeah he better get in gear, or else...” Taichi was almost ready to jump when a big wall smacked into Taichi, sending him flailing into the red ball, and he found himself mid-air for what felt like an eternity. “...he’ll splash into the drink with his rear?” “Ha ha, very funny.” Taichi started swimming, and before he could say anything, he blinked and suddenly saw a beach, and what looked like half of the Digidestined in color-coordinated outfits on the shore, with Mimi wearing the matching color with his own outfit. The rest were in the water, swimming towards the opposite direction of Taichi. “Taichi’s way out front, and at this rate, he and Mimi will win the challenge!” Taichi walked up to Mimi, and handed her a talisman of some sort. He caught a quick glance of Mimi in her finest swim-wear, and a blush snuck up on him. Taichi was trying to re-oriented, but suddenly found himself standing beside Mimi, Hikari, Mimi’s parents and Taichi’s mother, facing off against Yamato, Sora, Takeru, Takeru and Yamato’s parents, and Sora’s father. Horrified, and still extremely disoriented, Taichi turned to face Mimi. “What...do you know what’s going on?” Partially relieved to see he wasn’t alone in confusion, Mimi was likewise confused. “Taichi...we’re on Family Feud.” “What?!” “...and here’s your host, Steve...HARVEYYYYYYY!!” “Shhh!” “What in the world happened with the other places?” “Uhm..first one is a new one, second was definitely Survivor.” “I’m so confused.” “Alright, we need Taichi and Yamato to come up!” “Mimi save meeeeee” Taichi whispered, rather concerned about what’s going on. “Alright, we asked one-hundred married men and women...Name the worst thing you can do at the start of a relationship!” Taichi slammed his hand on the button. “Rush in to a relationship?” “Show me rushin’ in!” A loud DING noise meant Taichi got the chance to choose they would pass the question on to Yamato’s team, or he would take it. “We’ll play.” Taichi said, walking back to try and ask Mimi for any idea what or why they were in this mess. “Taichi Yagami of Odaiba? Why come all the way here from Japan?” Taichi tried to think of how, or why he was where he was. Instead, he turned to Mimi. “Taichi, whatever this is, we need to work together to get out of it. We’re the only ones that know.” Steve leaned in to whisper to them. “Look, I know this can be intense, so if you’re nervous, work together, talk it out, answer the questions with the most popular answers, and you’ll win. Besides, you’ll be much happier as a team than not.” Mimi and Taichi were still rather confused, decided to play along. Whatever Digimon it was that was causing this, it was beyond a human-paygrade. One by one, their team got each question, bringing them to the final round. Taichi had netted them 100 points. Mimi just needed to get one hundred more. With no hesitation, they won the prize. Mimi and Taichi hugged, stoked for their huge cash prize, when the once crowded studio became deserted. “Steve?” the duo asked, in sync no less. “Look at you two lovebirds, working together!” a familiar voice replied instead. “Wait... Mr. Torikkusutā?” “In the flesh! Literally!” “What...” Mr. Torikkusutā chuckled and snapped his fingers. Before the moment could register, the trio found themselves on top of the Fuji TV building. “Seriously? Real talk here guys. How, in the world do you guys forget the 02 crew?! HOW!?” “The...what?” Taichi replied with downright astonishment. “The...” Mr. Torikkusutā sighed and snapped his fingers, and out of nothingness, three huge slices of triple chocolate cake appeared. “The other two are for you two, though I’ll eat em if you don’t. Trust me, they’re Heavenly.” Taichi and Mimi, somewhat worried at first if these slices were poison or some prank, both picked up the slices and took one bite each. The cake was perfect. In every way, this cake was the best the world would ever offer, aside from any of Mimi’s future foods. “Whurt” was all Taichi could say with his mouth filled by the cake. “Hold your horses. Chew, swallow and then talk.” While Taichi did just that, Mimi asked an important question about everything that had happened recently. “Who...or what, are you? Why do you keep putting Taichi and I into groups with one another?” Mr. Torikkusutā sighed and looked out over Odaiba, and by extension, Tokyo. “Look, how can I make this any easier to understand? How. In. The world. Did you. Forget. Daisuke. Miyako. Iori. Ken. C’mon, some of those names have to ring a bell.” Taichi and Mimi looked at one another, tried their best to remember whom Mr. Torikkusutā was talking about. With a heavy sigh, Mr. Torikkusutā suddenly went back to looking out at the city. “Things can’t be that messed up...can they? What’s next, is Ryo going to show up with Milleniummon, Takato and their whole crew?” “Mimi...what is he rambling about?” “Taichi, he reminds me of...No, it couldn’t be.” “So guys, please, PLEASE tell me there isn’t some digital-anomaly that can warp all realities?” Taichi and Mimi’s silence made Mr. Torikkusutā cringe, then sigh over-dramatically. “You know what, I’m going to do something about this.”

“Huh, that Digimon Kaiser looks familiar to me”
After spending a few days (? more like years) “abroad” , Ryo heard from a local digimon villagers about the rumors of a new menace. He wondered if it was a successor to Millenniummon, or someone mentioned by Gennai before.
But no, on his scouting mission he spotted a humanoid figure following by a Wormmon. Said figure looked like his old friend Osamu -- both voice and appearance.
The Gotsumons who tagged along with Ryo were a bit shaken, afraid of the ‘Digimon Kaiser’ enemy. So it wasn’t a rumor huh?
“Ryo let’s go back” one of the Gotsumons asked, she held the boy’s arm gently, pulling him carefully to make him move.
“Hold on everyone” he looked at the party, “Stay here, I will talk to that kid.”
“Ryo... No...??!”
He walked towards the mentioned Digimon Kaiser and waved his hand amicably:
“Yo, are you the said ‘Digimon Kaiser’ ?”
Is he stupid...? -- The Gotsumon trio muttered in concern.

Returning to the human world was a bit strange for him. Knowing he’s considered dead right now and yet being still alive gave him the feeling of being a haunting spirit walking in the Earth with no right to rest in peace.
But he’s aware, he’s alive. He didn’t die in that explosion, more like he was literally outed from that world and had been wandering without memories for a long long time until a peculiar encounter he had in the space-time continuum.
• • •
Ryo stood behind Ken, and as he assumed, his clothes had changed the moment he landed in the real/human world. They seemed old and a bit shorter in his body right now, but not noticeable at least. Well, he will manage to get new clothes later, first he wanted to meet his other old pal.
Tumblr media
“I’m still lost here, so you have to keep showing me the way.”
He told Ken, and proceed following the young boy like a duckling following their mom.

"Whoa hey bud" Ryo looked at Osamu outside his house, "I'm having a plumbing problem right here. Don't mind me-- NO DON'T EAT THE PIPES!!"
"Might talk to you in a few seconds."
A loud noise is heard. A small blue creature runs through the house with a very very exhausted Ryo coming after.
"COME HERE! NO, DON'T GO THERE!! AAAH STOP EATING MY FORNITURE!!"
Yup, chaos.
