26th November 1731, birth of the English pre-romantic poet William Cowper, influencing both later Romantic poets, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordswoth; Cowper also became a commited and fervant supporter of the Abolitionist campaign, writing anti-slavery poems, and campaining against the slavery trade alongside John Newton, William Wilberforce, Thomas Clarkson, Granville Sharp, Hannah More, and Olaudah Equiano. 28th November 1757, birth of English painter, poet, visionary, radical and printmaker William Blake at 28 Broad Street in Soho, London. Influenced by his own internal vision, and the revolutions of both the United States and France; Blake forged a unique form of philosophical and mystical poetry and art despite any formal schooling, that set to sir a national consciousness into social and moral change, including abolition. Though largely neglected and dismissed during his lifetime, William Blake is now considered one of the leading sages of English poetry, and one of the greatest artists of the pre-Romantic,and Romantic movements. Upon the death of William Cowper, his friend William Hayley, (the third William in our tale), wrote a biography upon Cowper’s life. The work published in 1803 contained six engravings by William Blake, who was commissioned by his patron at the time William Hayley. All art shown is original, and is for sale on the website. See link in bio. The tarot cards come from the historical Industrial sublime Tarot 1760 - 1848. The Romantic Age
The Romantic Movement was an artistic, literary and intellectual movement, partly as a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. It was embodied strongly in visual arts, music and literature, and was associated with liberalism and radicalism. The movement was rooted in the German Strum and Drang movement and legitimised the individual imagination as a critical authority.
Time period~
The Romantic period in English Literature began with the publication of William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge's 'Lyrical Ballads' in 1978 and ends with the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837.
Social and Economic Background~
•The effect of the French Revolution did not confine itself only to France, but it also sowed seeds of revolutionary fervour in England.
•The writers of the Romantic period were inspired by the ideas of the French Revolution and tried to translate these ideas into the realm of literature.
•The Representation of the People Act, 1832, also known as the Reform Act, was an act of Parliament that introduced wide-ranging changes to the electoral system of England and Wales.
•While, England was being radically transformed by the Industrial Revolution, it led to social unrest among the working class.
•A violent class conflict ensued between employers and workers, most notably in the Luddite Riots of 1811-12, when textile workers in the North of England attacked the new mills and machinery, which had put them out of work.
•In August 1819, The Peterloo Massacre occured at St. Peter's Field, Manchester, when cavalry charged into a crowd of 60,000-80,000 gathered at a meeting to demand the reform of parliamentary representation.

Many Romantics turned to a past or an inner dream world that they felt was more picturesque and magical than the ugly Industrial Age they lived in.
