almost started crying in the pub yesterday because my partner was telling me how these scientists (? idk) made a fake little robot crab to study these actual crabs and one day a stingray came trying to eat the crabs and it was trying to get the robot spy crab but the real crabs all teamed up to protect the robot crab (who they thought was real of course) because they wanted to save their friend and and … hang on I need a minute

Blue Warden 

Bug, Beast and Brute combined, they clasp and they won’t let go, a wardens job is never done, when prisoners are wherever they go....

Back when I used to think of a character idea before starting drawing, I had the urge to draw a character that would be like, some sort of guardian or warden for eldritch abominations, my thinking was that the big ol claw theyd have would be so strong its almost spectral or conceptual, and they could grab whatever abomination was out there wreaking havoc nearby regardless of the plane of existence they were on. Alternatively, maybe they were a warden because wherever they go, they’d capture random prisoners. 

Whatever the idea was, that way of designing characters feels a bit more alien now... I look back on this and its almost cute how little detailing I allowed myself to get away with putting on the canvas, an almost less is more situation compared to some of the things that came after. In any case, recently I’ve been getting more acquainted with not thinking too hard about how “complete” a piece is, just been making pieces that dont even have a background etc, I’m hoping to eventually recapture the essence of simple but captivating, maybe even discover some new techniques along the way...
