Hey y'all! Since it's Love Loses Wednesday for all who celebrate and I have plenty of thoughts about it, here's some of those thoughts I've had for my fellow enjoyers of Chip Bastard from the insanely powerful podcast Just Roll With It!
So.
Chip being so focused on family and friends, on finding Arlin and keeping his co-captains and crew safe, while the most he ever shows interest in romance is in brief, jokey flirting that's quickly brushed aside.
Chip buying a love potion, only for it to sit unused in his inventory for literal months until it unceremoniously drops into the mouth of the Electrodon.
Chip being unnerved or even downright scared when somebody shows a sign of being attracted to him (Amanda with the marriage, Jazz and his flirting, the frantic denial to Ollie that Gillion kissing him meant anything (which was then followed by barely any change in their relationship. A typically romantic act, done as an act of love between friends, and yet those friends never did start a romance. Curious))
Speaking of Amanda and the marriage: Chip waking up one day and suddenly being expected, even morally obligated, to be in a romantic relationship with somebody he doesn't even know, for reasons he doesn't even know. And even when he clarifies that he doesn't want this, that he won't give up being a pirate with his friends for it, he still can't leave behind the expectation fully, because Amanda, and thus this expectation, is literally chasing him. Sometimes it even comes from his own friends, because no matter how much he would prefer to just Not Be Married, there's no way for him to get out of it, especially not ones Gillion would likely accept, and therefore the expectation that eventually, he'll be in a romance, is inescapable.
And even more interesting, he's not opposed to the idea of getting married in general. He wasn't wholly against the notion of marrying Igneous just for the AC boost it would give them. Clearly, the problem he had wasn't with the marriage itself, but with the fact that he was expected to form a romantic partnership.
And lastly: Chip having his literal heart ripped out of him, and staying nearly the same. Making jokes about how his heart was stolen in a way that was literal instead of romantic. Writing to his wife that if death do them part, then now it has (and doesn't it even say something that the only way for him to escape the marriage, the expectations, was to die?)
He cares for his friends just the same. He cares for his crew just the same. He wants to find Arlin just as much as ever. And his avoidance of his wife, of the expectation that he perform romance, stays the same. But even if he's the exact same, he has an excuse for this now. Because clearly, somebody with no heart couldn't feel romance, and who cares that he didn't really seem to before he lost his heart either?
Chip being aromantic, on a textual, metaphorical, and thematic level.

the thing about chip is that he's a little too unassuming. an orphan kid with no name and no memory of anything beforehand, yet is old enough to beg to join the black rose pirates. sure, you can believe it, even if the other orphan aboard definitely has a name
that orphan kid then goes on to survive the hole in the sea, amongst few who lived and made swift recoveries, but unlike lizzie he had no protector, and unlike roofus he was a child, only nine. alone in the recently corrupted black sea and with no magic, he managed to make his way to land, which we've learnt is at least a few days travel when on a ship. he didn't drown, or freeze, and he doesn't seem to remember it. it's odd. almost impossible, you could say. but fine, we move on
with gillion and jay, he's so clearly the odd one out. standing between the chosen one and a descendent of the sun, he seems out of place (especially from a meta perspective). but even then, fine, it's probably just meant to be funny
but then there's all the other things. out of the three deals we've seen, he's the only one who's found niklaus rather than vice versa. he slipped through a dream into the realm of who we can only imagine to be one of the most powerful people in mana. and you have to remember he didn't possess any magic until after the feywild. the deal happened after joaldo
he's undead now. his heart was ripped out, his flesh is decaying, but he lives. sure, the other crew members of captain widow were technically undead too, but the fact remains true that this is unusual. the undead thing lead to him following the compass (which is something else i'll get into, because doesn't he seem oddly interested in it yet unaffected) into that sack where he met with niklaus for a second time, the only riptide pc we've seen met him more than once. and the wish doctor seemed more than happy to share some of his secrets with chip
now the compass. it's made by niklaus, linked to desire, and when ollie used it just a few times in joaldo it had instant effects. chip keeps looking at the compass, so much so that it's now magically increased his desire to find arlin, and yet he's had no other effects
when he made the deal with niklaus, his price seemed hardly anything. "don't interfere". it doesn't exactly align with gillion's favour or jay's name and a command she must obey. also it technically gave him two things: knowledge of arlin's whereabouts, and reverting the effects on ollie. and once again niklaus shared more of his plans with chip than any other captain. like he trusts him, almost
inexplicably, chip can speak celestial. a language which just so happens to be key to unlocking all these clues surrounding the hole in the sea (the map, the door in the place beneath the sea as well iirc). jay's understanding of primordial is explained by navy lessons (makes sense if they're dealing with the undersea), but chip's celestial never is
and now the place beneath the sea -- where the cumagoon (do i have to write that in a serious analysis post?), now unlocked by the compass, led -- a voice welcomed him home
i think chip's more deeply connected to the black sea than even he has ever considered. it runs much deeper than simply the loss of arlin and the black rose pirates. i think he, like niklaus, is intrinsically tied to the entity known as the nameless prince, and thereby the egg. he might be more significant magically than we previously thought

Round 4, Match 2: Riptide vs. Galaxia
Riptide
From: Percy Jackson
Wielder: Percy Jackson
Riptide is a xiphos made from Celestial Bronze. It is usually in the form of a pen, but by taking the cap off, it transforms into a sword. If lost, it always returns to the wielder’s pocket in pen form. Touching the cap of the pen to the hilt instead of the tip of the blade allows Riptide to be used as a normal pen. It is deadly to gods, Titans, and monsters, but it simply passes right through any mortal without harming them.

From: Kirby
Wielder: Meta Knight
Galaxia is Meta Knight’s trusty sword. He is able to perform many feats with it, including battling Kirby and besting Galacta Knight (the “greatest warrior in the galaxy”). Meta Knight also gives Galaxia to Kirby in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, who then uses it to defeat Dark Mind.

What if they added more movement enchants like one for the boots that give a double jump, or one for the elytra that when you use a wind charge, it shoots you up higher, maybe one for the elytra that gives you a charge and to balance those two elytra ideas we can have it so that you have to pick one and maybe make them not compatable with mending like how infinity is with bows and for the boots you have to give up feather falling and another thing is the trident you could do grapple enchment that would clash with riptide and like a legging enchment that let you dash that clashes with something.
Oh, and nerf protection so the other protection can get some love and make protection and feather falling clash cause feather falling is just fall protection, or hell just get rid of it and replace it with more types of protect like melee, and magic protection, personally i would keep protection and just add the 2 new protection ideas i like the idea of protection being a generalist enchant, good at all but master of none.

- theyre talking about what happened between william and mark over the 10 month timeskip: william contacted him at some point, not really about anything in particular, just to ask him if he knew anything about ashe that could help thsm find him/updating him on their progress finding ashe. then when they started playing again william stopped contacting him (for meta reasons, charlie just forgot that was an option BUT) bizly took note of that anyway and thats why mark was so hostile right off the bat. he just like. stopped hearing things from william and didnt know what was going on anymore. so when they showed up here and had no update on ashe whatsoever it just made him think they werent actually doing anything to find him
- grizzly: "man you would thing being in prison and losing his son would give this man some perspective and adjust his personality but he just became more of an asshole"
bizly: "no, the problem is youre not thinking about it from his perspective!! youre only thinking about it from dakotas point of view where hes a villain and hes doing bad things so hes bad. hes just a guy who thought he was doing what he had to do to keep his son safe"
charlie: "okay but he like locked his son up forever"

- they keep referring to overlord as "alligator guy" because they forgot his name. charlie even at one point goes "yeah and he was a crocodile or whatever, dont you know those are power level 9" << this will never stop being funny to me

- charlie is Very concerned about the no blood thing. his theory rn is that the archway he saw was like "crossing over" for ghosts. like fully passing on and not being ghosts anymore. seeing himself/his memories in the prison cells was very poetic, he kind of feels trapped by himself right now. hes the most curious about the 5 empty chairs and what that could possibly mean
- theyre trying to figure out who the group of 5 could possibly be. williams old group didnt have 5 people, prime defenders doesnt have 5 people even with ashe so they have no ideas right now and are excited to find out more :)
- "williams pretty fucked up right now to be honest!!! we just spent an episode and a half arguing about how we're allowed to kill the lich because its undead and not human. and then he learns hes fucking deteriorating. uh oh! now hes probabky thinking 'am i even a person?' i dont even know if he knows what to think about the spirit world right now i think hes just kind of panicked"
- "if only the ghost of party city were here, hed know what to say about this"
- "how is vyncent feeling right now?" "hes still kind of pissed. his one goal of killing the lich after all these years was just ripped away from him. hes accepted it for now but if that lich escapes. man hes gonna go nuts"
SUCH an insanely good episode dude hoooooly shit. head in hands. everybody say thank u bizlychannel!!!!! man. this was SO good man it really does feel like.... not a turning point, necessarily, but very important. honestly, really glad that by now they've had time to really like, sit with their characters & the world & let it all steep for a while? this season already really feels like such a tonal shift & kind of a step up frm season 1 so far!! (NOT that season 1 also wasn't really fucking good. but a lot of what we've got in s2 so far feels a lot more settled and cohesive) im here for it!!! LOVED the animatic that shit was crazy. if thats a precedent they're setting now im gonna go wild.
I ALSO THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA MURDER THE LICH. i was like ohhhh great this is how we get the vigilante on the run arc its gonna be so bad theyre never gonna see tide again. phew!!!! i mean, i, too, still think the lich should be dead. but. also yeah WHAT DO YOU MEAAAN THATS A REAL THING HIS DAD DID. FUCKING CRAZY.
what else.. having so many thoughts about william's Situation . as always. man. it's so fucked up. i have no clue where any of it's going dude... the only thought i have is that i don't think. we have any real context for the five thrones thing yet. i don't think that's related to anything we already know except. mayyybe mal. i think that's some spirit world-specific bullshit! we'll see though. we'll see.
YEAH <333 DAKOTA IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS IN MEDIA TOO <33333 auaurrghghhggghhh. ohh hes so everything 2 me. also i love seeing characters who don't Get Everything Immediately. like yeah! you got time to parse through it all in yr brain man. hell yeah rotate it in ur mind for weeks before coming to a conclusion!! no one has their entire belief system hammered out in advance!!

so the other day i was listening to some of the riptide rolleds on my drive home and i ended up only doing one when i planned for 2 bc the Felipe Discourse made me too frustrated/upset/whatever but. okay.
one of the things that was brought up was chip's suggestion to leave felipe Behind on an island (even if temporarily) and how they want to treat NPCs like whole Characters and not... like disposable NPCs? and bizly was like "its not that i dont like or care about felipe, i just think this is the best option"-- he even said that it would be the Same for ppl like alphonz, gryffin, ollie, etc (either leaving them somewhere or taking them home, depending). but he felt different when they brought up if jay had been the one rogue'd
and like. yes on a meta level theres some preference towards player characters-- which like is the exact thing they brought up w the "treating NPCs as characters", to treat them as if they were a player character as well.
but also like.... i just think on a character level that still applies. yes, chip cares abt his crew. yes, chip likes felipe and cares about him. but chip... doesn't apply that care equally, if that makes sense.
he cares about his crew, but he relies on jay and gillion. they're his family, fullstop, while the rest of the crew is his friends*. he just... WOULD treat them differently, i think. and its not a BAD thing, but i do think its just... a thing. and thats okay! i actually think i prefer it bc its a fun extra layer of complexity.
it doesn't mean chip doesn't care abt the others, or is overly callous, or unsympathetic bc he'd be willing to leave them behind for however long it took to fix the issue but be unwilling to do the same for his co-captains. it's just... how he is. HE has this bias built in. he would find some way to keep the co-captains around bc he Needs them around, not just bc of ooc "pc preference".
*i think that, if ollie did not have a Home To Return To that he would also likely fall into the family category? but because he has a home to return to, and one they already plan to take him to, he would take the rogue-ing as a sign to finally take him home and End their journey together

this is whitney, having some introspection on a bad night. maybe a little in the future, maybe with a touch of character development, maybe even with a little meta knowledge.
for the most part, i don't believe that blond has an ounce of shame on them. but. no one is exempt from self doubt. and whitney knows what they did/do to pc is wrong, hell, that's part of why they do it. because it's fucked up, and awful, and there's power in being the perpetrator. but i'll save that discussion for a later song.
whitney is stuck in the town. they find escape in anyway they can: cigarettes, booze, sex, wanton destruction, etc. but they're just as trapped as anyone. and maybe it's the future, and they're trying to be better. but there's only so much you can do when you're an NPC in rapechesterville.

Was thinking ab shows and how we watched them
And ngl, overall? I think riptide is actually the most normal, or close to it
We were in the Sasi Fandom for years beafore even starting, we dropped Seven Deadly Sins mid of the last season bc we got bored
99% of anime we got introduced to via reading meta for it, getting intrested, frolicking in the Fandom, and then binge watching it in 1-2 weeks

But actually I've kinda been doing a similar thing with the qsmp except I wouldn't really say I'm in the fandom, it's more that I have a passing interest in whatever fucked up tragic thing charlie is doing over there lmao
Tbh I wouldn't even be so overdramatic about how you watch riptide except that if you keep finding out all the dramatic twists and tragic reveals ahead of time I won't have anything to ominously hint at :( how am I supposed to torment you without that!!

Introducing my teams Pt3 - Mono Bow
disclaimer: I build my teams mostly based of a certain thematic and just for fun, they are not fully “meta” oriented and while I’m sure they can be improved upon I’m generally happy with the compositions.
Ganyu - Burst Support
Yelan - Off-field DPS
Childe - Main DPS
Diona - Support
The fact that this team started bc I ship Chilyu.... Anyway I wanted Childe and Ganyu together and apparently the way to go is permafreeze combo, at the time I was going to add Xingqiu for sub dps and Diona for double cryo and shield/healing but THEN Yelan was announced and I went "haha what if full archer team?" and here we are.
So yep, permafreeze, everyone supports or boosts the ginger and he goes wild on the field as he likes to do, simple. In the case the fatui menace is on cooldown Ganyu can pick up the slack and DPS by herself rather easily.
Rotation goes Ganyu E -> Ganyu Q -> Yelan Q -> Childe E and go wild -> Childe Q -> Diona E -> Diona Q -> Yelan E
Disco ball Ganyu is still Nuke Ganyu. Her burst lasts so long she's usually ready to go when the first one starts giving 100% uptime on that cryo. Can deploy her flower for some energy or to lure some enemies but doesn't always work that well.

Hunter's Path is usually recommended for Melt Ganyu but it's the only 5* I have and it's a crit bow idk, she used to have Viridescent Hunt. One could argue Diona's EM burst buff helps but it's minimal.
2pc Noblesse 2pc Blizzard for that burst and cryo buffs Atk/Cryo/Crit dmg as per usual offensive builds, she just gotta keep that cryo raining down.
Yelan is insanely amazing, seriously, her burst does so much dmg so quick and she's rather fun and easy to use and build. She's mostly a quick Q swap but her skill is incredibly useful also achieving that freeze when the whole field is raining ice, and easily doing 20k per thread.
Favo Warbow for energy reasons, she's easily the team's battery with how fast and easy she procs the passive. 4pc Noblesse to boost her burst and other members. HP/Hydro/Crit as she scales off HP and to proc the bow and get those numbers. I'm quite happy with how much HP these pieces give her omg.
Ah yes the war criminal. Comes out to absolutely destroy everything on sight charging wildly and attacking violently, we love to see it. There are SO many blue numbers on screen once this guys starts lashing out with that riptide mechanic and the support of Yelan's and Ganyu's burst is insane. Enemies can't attack you if they can't move, and they all fall down quite easily...
Sad crit rate but he never crits anyway, we know that. Rust for raw power being his BiS before Polar Star dropped, 4pc HoD for that sweet sweet hydro and atk bonus tailored for him and Atk/Hydro/Crit as per usual DPS builds. C1 gives me a bit more of leeway with his long cooldown but if anything is even alive by the time he's done the girls can pick up quick.
Let's not kid ourselves, this girl is the backbone of the entire team. Shielding, Healing. Ganyu battery and support. She's got it all. The rest would be dead without her, quite literally.
Sac bow for ER and the passive that can allow for an extra shield uptime. 2pc Tenacity 2pc Maidens HP/HP/Healing for those sweet sweet heals. Her burst heals around 7k per tick enough to quickly patch up anyone who needs it (usually childe) while providing a mini version of Ganyu's cryo field that Yelan can use with her threads.
So much blue at once.
I love this team with a passion, they would be so funny to interact together I have lots of headcanons LOL. The 5* are crowned at least once but hey Diona's C6 sooo they're even. They also all have the dragonspine wings bc matchy matchy. Kinda hope to get them better bows one day (Yelan's and Diona's used to be swapped bc sac bow meant free C1 Yelan) but we'll see we'll see.

(( meta fun fact there’s a reality in which I had gone and lived/worked on the coast instead of in the high desert last year, which means there’s also a reality where I made Titus the King of the High Tide or something like that and he was way more beach boy looking than mountain/desert boy. ))
(( and The Sons wouldn’t be of The Wilds. They’d be of The Depths. And Titus wouldn’t become The Overgrowth, he’d become like The Riptide or The Tempest or something like that. ))
(( anyways hey can you believe it’s almost mermay? I can. I’m going to try and be ready this year. ))

i think i got a few. im p sure these are mostly agreed on but i dont have any thats really that unpopular.
love free shipping, kraken, duck, (proceeds to name everybot that changed their design to fit the meta) but if the robots arent gonna improve or atleast be entertaining enough after they changed their design, its time for them to go. bots that aren't doing the best after many seasons like tombstone and the such are atleast entertaining to watch (might be biased here but shhh) but these bots mentions and others like them will only be entertaining now if theyre getting beaten up so its time for them to be replaced by those who might have potential and who might be atleast a bit more entertaining.
another one, bite force doesn't need to come back he'd get destroyed in the current meta anyway im sorry folks someone had to say it.
for the most part, robots that do well in lower weight classes won't translate when their 250 pound robots. the smaller robots are meant for other smaller robots so making a much much bigger version of that robot won't be perfect (except for RIPperoni our favorite drag race winner fr)
"riptide was screwed by the edit" this "riptide did nothing wrong" that there was so much evidence to believe there was so much more nasty stuff they did that didnt make the cut. Ethan was saying in the post fight interview that he would've won if he was there discrediting the shit Felix had to do last minute in the finale. like atleast (to my knowledge) Felix seems tolerable and actually pretty good at driving the robot. also idk if this one is true but acc to someone reddit they called the hypershock team some "pink haired freaks" IF THIS IS TRUE THEY CAN FUCK ALL THE OFF and i will be showing up at their door 🤩. (also st*n kurtz literally sells stuff claiming to be the cure for autism ik this is unrelated to robot combat but THEY ARENT GOOD PEOPLE)

- Yeahh i'd have to agree with Kraken, Free Shipping, and Duck. I think destructathon is a perfect place for bots like them. Although tbh i'd love to see some room in the field for new fan-favorite, not amazing bots. Terrortops might fit into that niche, but they might be able to pull off some nice wins as well!
- I honestly don't have much of an opinion on bite force since I didn't really get into BB until WCVI, but it'd be really interesting to see it come back and just get its ass kicked. Would also be fun if it returned and was even better, but I don't see it ever happening. I'm just as happy to have my bbg Endgame in the mix.
- it's very hit or miss with smaller weight class bots being scaled up. it's honestly fun to see them try, and it's probably a good way to test some new bot designs, but they're definitely not all gonna be winners. I wonder if we'll see starchild back or if they're done. At least it worked with HUGE and Lynx o7
- There's not a total black or white side to the whole Riptide thing but it's basically "yeah they're assholes, which the edit made even worse somehow" imo. I feel so bad for Felix tbh. Maybe I shouldn't be sympathetic to anyone on their team but just from what I saw he seems like a cool dude and they were totally dismissive of him? He did an amazing job as a first time Riptide driver and they should've been more supportive :[
