Lunarpunk is a very new and slowly growing subgenre and community, please continue to add new ideas, add to the conversation of sustainability, do research in your own area about the local flora and fauna, what you can do to help reduce light pollution, even if it's just coming from your home, how to be more energy efficient, how to reduce waste, save money on electricity, see if you can switch your lights to LEDs, speak with your neighbors about switching as well.

A lawmaker from Germany's environmentalist Green Party and a journalist were injured on the sidelines of a protest by the climate activist group Last Generation on Monday, according to media reports.

The incident took place in the city of Halle in the central state of Saxony-Anhalt during what police said was an "unannounced protest" which resulted in "significant traffic disruptions."

Green lawmaker hit by car — report

German news agency DPA reported that member of state parliament Sebastian Striegel and a journalist were monitoring a demonstration when a motorist allegedly mounted a footpath, in an apparent attempt to get around the blockade.

DPA said that one of its reporters witnessed the incident.

"I will have a medical examination," DPA quoted Striegel as saying. News agency EPD said that the lawmaker was lightly injured on his leg.

Striegel had reportedly attended the protest as an observer.

Striegel also spoke out against the actions of bystanders frustrated by how the protest took place.

"Whether farmers' protests or climate demonstrations, nobody has to share the concerns of protesters. But the decisive factor remains — no violence," Striegel told DPA.

Protesters 'slightly injured'

According to Halle police, four activists from the Last Generation protest movement stuck themselves to the road.

"At the beginning of the action, two people were hit by an unknown driver who was driving around the demonstrators. Two people who were not among the demonstrators were slightly injured," police said, adding that they had launched an investigation into the matter.

Police said that authorities had found it difficult to remove those who had stuck themselves to the road and the action which began at 9:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) was only clear again at 1:25 p.m.

Who are Last Generation?

Germany's Last Generation (Letzte Generation) group has repeatedly blocked traffic in German cities in its campaign to press for more strident action to counter global warming.

The group is demanding that the German government formulate a plan to meet an international goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times.

As well as gluing themselves to busy intersections and highways, its members have targeted various artworks and exhibits.

Dozens of activists from Last Generation and similar groups across Europe have appeared in courts for blocking traffic or obstructing police work. Most were fined, but some courts have started to hand down jail convictions.

found out that dairy*sntsc*ry person doesnt even try to deny the cataclysmic effects of animal agriculture on the environment they just go "oh well we'll never stop eating meat so it doesnt matter" ?? you know what will definitely stop everyone from eating meat? if the planet becomes inhospitable to life?

#i agree that we should both reform animal ag AND dramatically reduce our meat and dairy consumption #and that not all animal ag is equally polluting #however for a lot of people reducing beef and/or dairy is a lot more accessible #and every expert is talking about how important it is for people to not feel helpless #and to recognise the things they can do and stop feeling like a passive participant in our world

i hate that “shopping sustainably doesnt fix the capitalist attitude to buying and owning things” post stop discouraging people from trying to make ethical purchasing choices.... i get it but it’s also like we have to live in this world you know we have to buy SOME things and sharing resources on where best to find planet/worker friendly products and services is very helpful, especially when shopping sustainably can seem initially very daunting and expensive to the everyday consumer

Houston-based Inhance manufactures an estimated 200m containers annually with a process that creates, among other chemicals, PFOA, a toxic PFAS compound. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in December prohibited Inhance from using the manufacturing process.

But the conservative fifth circuit court of appeals court overturned the ban. The judges did not deny the containers’ health risks, but said the EPA could not regulate the buckets under the statute it used. The rule requires companies to alert the EPA if a new industrial process creates hazardous chemicals. Inhance has produced the containers for decades and argued that its process is not new, so it is not subject to the regulations. The EPA argued that it only became aware that Inhance’s process created PFOA in 2020, so it could be regulated as a new use, but the court disagreed.

Inhance said in a statement its “technologies … keep thousands of tons of harmful chemicals and fuels out of the environment, preserve product quality, and ensure compliance with many global regulations”. However, the company in 2021 admitted the creation of PFAS is “an unavoidable aspect” of its process [...]

EVERYTHING enjoyable is packaged in plastic and it sucks #(ok not literally everything but consider: most candy is wrapped in plastic and clothes have plastic tags and chips are in plastic #sushi is in plastic containers and meat is in shrink wrap or styrofoam and most modern chewing gum is a byproduct of vinyl #toys are packaged in plastic etc. etc.)

I'm going to be honest, I think banning disposable vapes is going to send smoking rates through the roof. Especially among minors

#like a kid getting cigarettes is way more feesible than getting a resuable vape #a thing they have to ask their parents for #but these kids are addicted so theyre going to get it somewhere #i am also not really ok with that much power being in the governments hands #my anarchist brain does not like that shit one bit #just genuinely think about that industry and how many jobs have just been lost or endangered #plus i honestly dont think we should stop adults doing shit because its bad for kids #stricter laws sure. trying to reduce kids doing it as much as humanly possible. absolutely #but outright banning them makes me really uncomfortable #thats going to have a snowball of consequences and not all of them are good #especially because our regulations actually make vapes way way safer than us vapes #and now bang goes that shit. pop corn lung for everyone #i empathise with the environmental thing completely but like #lets be clear here there are absolutely other thing the government could be doing for that and is refusing #or fuck they could ban cigarettes which are provably way worse than vaping but dont #just like yeah were helping the environment but not like. stopping fossil fuel use or banning half the stuff thats actually polluting #vent
