This started as one part of a larger zine wip I wanted to share but I went a little overboard with the presentation haha. Said wip below: (Currently working on making headway on another project so it'll be a bit before I finish this up but I like the layout so far!)

Alrighty, your tags in the 'anti-blorbo friends' post intrigued me, so... hook line and sinker. Personally, I am kind of an 'anything goes' fan, I don't mind people disliking stuff about BG3 - or liking it a bit too much, either. I like all the companions, but I do see their flaws and critique can be fun. That's what a piece of media is for, no? For us to dissect and tear apart. So! Tear it freely, mate. Give me your Gale hot takes.

Okay, Gale hot takes, with the caveat that, in general, I just personally find his whole everything very off-putting, so I am very neutral-edging-to-negative toward him, but can still appreciate the complexity of his character in an objective sense.

This hot take/critique kind of overlaps with issues I have with a lot of the fandom interpretations of the characters: it feels like a lot of the fandom needs to woobify the characters and/or reduce them down to the most simplified version of themself to appreciate them.

Gale is a character who will approve of good actions in general terms, but the moment there is a chance to do something new, something heretofore untried, some advancement in knowledge or power, no matter what the terms of it, you have his attention. And that's really interesting! It's fucked up as all hell, but it's interesting. And this is something I see pushed under the rug and outright denied or left unexplored in most cases, because it requires confronting that all your faves are complex and "problematic", yes even that one.

This one is tangential to Gale, but also relates to the broader lore and world. I think there's a lot fucked up about Forgotten Realms lore (obviously), but it is also so vast and intricate and Larian put so much work in aligning with it as much as possible with the narrative of BG3, allowing you to extrapolate pretty consistently based on that. I've noticed a tendency by a lot of fans to engage with the world and its lore as though they've been isekai'd into it or something, not considering what would actually affect philosophy and perspective and "human" (as it were) experience in a world that worked like Faerûn does. For example, I recently saw someone arguing that the way Halsin handles Kagha after he is rescued is "unrealistic" and the player should be able to tell him that he needs to pick a stronger option. In my opinion this completely ignores the way that druids and druid groves function very differently from a lot of other communities in Faerûn. The majority of druids tend toward True Neutral in terms of alignment, live and let live unless nature is affected in some way. Halsin is honestly a bit of a rarity for verging so far toward Neutral Good. Additionally, because of their focus on nature and natural patterns, of course they would have different perspectives on punishment and rehabilitation.

Another way this presents itself very commonly is in how people conceptualize the system of gods/theology in Faerûn. Most people do not have any real experience conceptualizing a polytheistic worldview in practice, let alone one where the existence of those gods is an undeniable material fact, rather than a belief, and it shows. They hold the gods simultaneously to the standards of humans (which they are not), and the monotheistic conglomerate Christian God (which they are also not). Once again, the system of deity and interaction with it in FR lore is so fucked up, but for complex and interesting reasons I rarely see anyone exploring.

(The above is also the reason I think a lot of people underestimate the power of the archdevils and the Hells compared to the gods, but that is another discussion.)

This comes back to Gale in my hottest of hot takes: I really wish people would stop throwing around the "Gale was groomed, Mystra is a groomer" thing. I think it hyper-simplifies the actual tragedy of his story and the one Larian was trying to tell to an absurd degree, and I don't believe it even does any favors in terms of raising awareness of important issues. Based on FR lore and timeline, Mystra has only been back in existence as a goddess for at absolute maximum thirteen years prior to the start of BG3, and at minimum five, so unless you headcanon Gale to be 30 or younger (which seems decidedly unlikely based on everything else presented in the narrative), their time together was when he was an actual adult.

Am I saying there was no power dynamic problem there? No, ofc I am not. God/Human relationships are famously tragedies and cautionary tales. There is always an inherent disconnect between the two beings. You'll notice a trend, but yes, I do think that the most interestingly fucked up parts of that story are ignored in favor of the most basic and banal.

Mystra is a greater god, having dominion over magic as an entire concept. That means the scale of her power and existence are unfathomably vast, and so alien from human existence that to bridge it would be the work of thousands of lifetimes. At the same time, there are parts of her that used to be human, grafted onto her godhood. That's incredibly fucked up in such an eldritch way, you know?

Final hot take: Gale is a wizard's wizard™, a crime punishable by death. In this essay I will-

Anywho... Rare moment where I'm posting a snippet of my oc writing, because this section made me giggle:

   Siren rose to his feet too, trailing after Emphryean as he began to float backwards down the path.

   "You really roll with the punches, don't you?" He questioned, humor breaking through. Emphryean seemed like He'd barely changed a bit since the last time they'd seen eachother. Of course, the last time they'd seem eachother, Emphryean had been between jobs and he was providing for Cipit.

   Em only chuckled, balling his fists and absently punching at the air. "No, I am the punches~" He quipped, before slowing his pace a bit so he was floating backwards beside the water genasi. "Really though. Everything's been so busy since we last talked. And, I uh..." He paused and thought a moment, "I kind of adopted your brother." He held out his hands, palms up.

Gods, these two are so funny on their own. (Two or so paragraphs down Em taunts Siren about technically being his dad, which is hilarious too, but requires lore.)

so, for kinnporsche i came to the conclusion i have two - one for the earlier part of the show and one for the last episodes (i think the green is..fairly obvious)

first one is the men themselves who made me feel so many things throughout the show and turnt it into the amazing experience it was for me, watching them learn how to understand each other and open up, the tender scenes, the chemistry, following the discussions on here about kinn and his trust issues (omg especially around the tawan episodes, that was crazy) - their journey was so much fun!

the second one..what can i say, vegaspete were what everyone seemed to anticipate and i was kinda neutral until their episodes actually hit, then i went insane lmao, i just love pathetic men and "only i understand him, only i can tame him" type of stuff - i got plenty of that and some top notch chemistry and they were what made the last episodes for me

onto the untamed.. i don't like thinking about it too much because one cql viewing later i'm a broken woman, i do not understand how people watch it more than once and choose to actively think about it, write analyses, delve into the lore - i'm not built like you guys and you have my respect 💕 all of that is to say i dont think bout the ships too much either, i picked these as faves because they had a certain smth

...wen qing 🥰 i didn't ship them as divorced until i saw the option and decided that yes, they would be so amazing as divorced parents or smth and i would read about it for sure; not the comb, not the post-war conversations - that inn scene always comes to mind, it feels like a checkpoint at which you could take a different route and change the outcome, a spot where you can stop and think "what if"... jiang cheng before the weight of zidian, the only thing of importance at the moment - his brother's safety... wen qing with only her brother to look out for, testing how far she'd go for an outsider while risking everything... or, y'know, i just find the scene fun, smart and rewatchable 🤷‍♀️ they're a very interesting ship for me cause i don't mind them not being together, either way is fine and makes sense and i never really feel this way about ships i care about, they usually HAVE to be together y'know but with these two i just have many thoughts and feelings that don't actually make me go crazy which is so refreshing

and the one ship that i'm not sure i even ship but b o y they make me feel things...

...xiao xingchen and xue yang YES I KNOW, still to this day am not sure about some story details lol that whole arc left me shaken to my core and i've worked on forgetting it so it took a while to even remember they exist .. anyways, they found home in each other and could've been happy but they are who they are and they acted how they acted and that's that :) also my feels on song lan (and him with xiao xingchen) are mixed but this might be the one triangle i can see myself enjoying as a throuple.. i avoided stuff about that whole psychological horror arc so stuff that could sway me in any particular direction haven't been encountered in a while ✨

This is not my Main Blog, that being @fyrnnicular. There you’ll find most of my random and blorbos reblogs and shit like that, as this Blog is only for Personal Projects, such as art and writing. Although, as said in my description box, I upload once in a blue moon, so don’t expect frequent content here. I will be, however, reblogging my friends arts and writings through this blog now, and will be replying here as an Art Creator. Small note: English is not my main language, and although I am pretty fluent and have a Gods damn good Oxford Exam (shamelessly proud), I also have Himbo Syndrome™ and a single marble that hits the corners from time to time™. 

At the moment I have two Main Projects, Dark Prophecies and Frames of Eulogy. There might be more on the way, but so far, this ones are my main focus at the moment. Each will have their own Tags, and the characters too.

Feel free to interact and ask questions, as my inbox is open to anons too for those that are shy. Hate will not be tolerated, and not even answered. If I haven’t replied to you I either haven’t gotten around to it, have forgotten, simply don’t want to reply at the moment or Tumblr has thrown your ask into the void. Dark Prophecies 

tells the story of Nathe, a human cursed since birth that makes their living through Monster Hunting. This curse, causes him to hunt down God Beings, getting worse and stronger the closer he is to one. He’s not alone in this story. Having at first but Edaline, a high priestess of Seladín, and her temple to always find rest and some other merchants with whom he has befriended (and their sons and daughters), but as the story unfolds, he will meet a bigger cast of friends such as Regulus, a mysterious scholar, Melania and Joan, both warriors, but from different backgrounds and unlikely allies.  That is all I can tell for now. As it is still a Work In Progress. But hopefully that has intrigued your noggin. 

Frames of Eulogy 

Is a collection of stories and characters, that sincerely, I am far too attached to get rid of. No matter how much “Kill your Darlings” I do. I just love them, and I have had most of them for far longer than I care to remember. So I’ll just be a happy kid in my sand box. They all share a World Building that is different than that of Dark Prophecies. At the moment it wraps around Dumah Aziz Blackwood Morningstar, his family and the people they know and care for, or will know and care for. As of recent I have started re-working them as a character and the World Building of the world, so like the previous one, it is all I can tell for now. Not out of suspense but because I like to present neatly folded Lore and Content (which is why I rarely post stuff too).
